  1. Its a tricky one, the we (and now tm) ones seem better designs out of the box (granted the we is spoiled by poor materials) with the full stroke dead mans click. But then folks buying a high end ak are kinda gonna want steel. I suppose if it gets the popularity the mws did then aftermarket recievers are a possibility. Certainly its a deal breaker for me, even on a 74
  2. This is a fair point, i'm assuming if its not rs fitment it wont be long before aftermarket wood is available. Hence asking about the reciever, the one part thats gonna be hardest to change.
  3. pretty much any aeg is possible to hpa, the question is how difficult it'll be to acheive. a standard cylinder drop-in like the f2 would be the obvious choice, it'll come with either a v2 or v3 triggerboard but if the gun is doing something weird you can use a plugboard and wire in to the original trigger contacts. the only other area will be nozzle length. you can either find one for a gun with a similar length, get a longer nozzle and machine it down yourself, or send the measurements to polarstar who can make custom nozzles to order. there may be some fettling required- filing off stuff on the inside if it's catching on the gearbox, drilling holes for airline/cable routing etc. i still hold the f2 is the best all-rounder engine on the market currently in terms of offering the level of tunability you'd want from the likes of a fusion engine, with the flexibility to be dropped into a much wider array of guns.
  4. guess the all important question is what's the reciever made of? i for one would find anything less than blued steel on such a gun a bit of a deal breaker
  5. even better if you stick them in the branches of trees so they wave around a bit. the streams of tracers and the cries of constarnation are very enjoyable.
  6. think that was @gasman? dont recall him testing bio's specifically. regardless: is the truth that should be adhered to.
  7. holy bore offset batman j/k i run russian optics, i know both sides of the argument

  9. not personally (discounting the pilfering of kit by squadmates done in the name of humour and always returned), however i have heard of stuff getting pinched, including a double barreled 1911..... its surprising to me it doesn't happen more often given people just leaving their kit strewn out across the safe sone, rifles, pistols etc. personally if it's not on me it stays locked in the boot of the car. i do recall one day stumbling across a gas vector mag just lying inside a building, normally i would ignore such things but in that instance i figured "if i pick it up at least i know a theiving bugger hasn't", you've never seen such a look of relief when it was re-united with its owner.
  10. shots fired! don't worry, he's got a gbbr he's almost out of ammo already.......

  16. could just be ambient temperature is pushing it over the edge? never had a mosfet overheat (that wasn't the result of generalised stupidity ie an asg 40k on 11.1v) but then anything double digits is considered decent weather here.
  17. how hot did it get in the afternoon? we managed 26° yesterday which was blistering by our standards
  18. never took a video, but we're talking the same, if not even more dramatic, as the mk23. for example a few years back i lent one of my guns to a co-worker for a game (e&l aksu with polarstar f2 and a massive dtk4 suppressor with foamy bits) at one point i happened to glance over and see him, maybe 5m away open sight lines (ie nothing to block the sound between us) and the only way i knew he was firing was i could see his finger pulling the trigger.
  19. it depends on the action. for aeg's and gbbr's they're pretty much pointless as the action noise is by far the largest element. for hpa's and nbb's where there's minimal action noise then they absolutely help with the "pop" you get from the barrel and can bring it down to a level of silence that if you're standing a few feet away the sound of the bb landing makes more noise than the gun does. for aeg's yes, however it's still largely pointless given the gearbox noise, piston slap etc. you can do quiet aeg builds (mostly by filling the gun with more foam than is good for it), but you have to really really not want to just carry a mk23 as a secondary for when silence is required.
  20. i did experiment with cutting baffle shapes in the rings, wrapping a cut up mousemat around the inside of the chamber (to dampen any noise that hits the can wall), stuff like that. dont think it did all that much, a decent sized can and an action that's quite enough for suppression to make a difference is pretty much all the way there. besides, anyone you shoot silent or no will be coming right back for you after he's respawned (assuming he didn't scream hit at the top of his lungs then whisper "he's over there" to his buddies as he walks off)
  21. yeah it's pretty common, normally 3 rings wrapped around a spring. ofc having a bit of space for gas isn't the worst thing in the world.

Hmm, maybe the badges should be medals, the better to represent our heroism.

  24. i tend to have just the one bottle in the field, then drink plenty inbetween games from a stash in the car. although the sites i play are generally the kind where you can go back to the car between games.
