Excuse the amount of multicam, slightly regret not mixing it up with some tan but hey, we all learn from our mistakes and i’ll fix it up in the future (does the job for now and doesn’t look too bad imo)

Reevy reacted to Monty in "Budget of ££ - £££, what gun to choose?"
I'd like to start off this thread by saying that the pistols, rifles and shotguns that I recommend are, and always will be, from my own experience of using them and by popular opinion from regular users on here, other forums and other reputable sources. This thread will also be updated over time.

The amount of threads I keep seeing about this subject literally popping up every other week is getting a tad bit annoying, so, I figured I'd create this thread to save people from repeating themselves.

So, you're a new player looking for a decent gun hmm? You have a set budget for a gun that will be suitable for skirmishing and won't break anytime soon.

If you have a budget of £20 - £60, these guns will do just fine. Primarily gas and spring.

    - Any Double Eagle/AGM single-shot shotgun: These things have good range with .25g BB's and don't shoot above site limits, for around £30 you can't go wrong. Bison shotguns are a good option if you prefer a different look.

    - Any Double Eagle tri-shot shotgun: Like the single-shot shotguns, these also have good range but cost slightly more (around £50.) Do not purchase the Marui tri-shots new because, personally, the quality is on par with the Double Eagle tri-shots, not worth above £100. Cyma make metal tri-shot shotguns with folding stocks, full stocks, stockless and all metal or polymer for under or a bit over £100 depending on the model. G&P shotguns are outdated and overpriced, avoid.

    - ASG, KJWorks, HFC MK23: Absolutely the best gas pistol for under £70, very efficient, accurate and cheap to buy. The included 'silencer' will increase the FPS, try to find the Marui silencer to make it deadly silent.

    - Cyma AEP's: Like the MK23, these AEPs are excellent for the money, reliable gearboxes, some upgrade options out there on sites such as Eagle6 and Firesupport, magazines are very cheap, LiPo kits are also available and are a worthy upgrade.

    - HFC gas pistols: These are OK for around £30, average accuracy and gas efficiency, plastics used aren't great BUT the pistols are rugged enough for skirmishing, but they won't stand up to long-term use, consider saving up for the MK23.

If you have a budget of £60 - £100, this is an ok budget for a gun.

    - KJWorks P226, Glocks, M9s and 1911s: These guns are absolutely solid, will last a long time if taken care of. Good kick, average gas efficiency due to metal construction, fully Marui compatible. These are capable of using Co2, but is strongly advised due to inconsistent FPS. Magazines are poor quality and WILL leak during your ownership, replacing them with Marui magazines is advised. The paint that is used is very easily chipped.

    - WE Glocks, P226, M9s, XDMs and PX4's: Like KJWorks pistols, these pistols are very solid performers and are reliable, average gas efficiency and good range. Avoid purchasing second hand, these pistols are usually very well used in their lifetime, check the condition of the pistol before considering purchasing. The Glocks are slightly fatter than the real thing, so as such, they do not fit most plasic holsters, either trim the holster or purchase an adjustable cloth holster. The paint on the pistols is slightly better than the KJWorks, but will still easily be scratched off.

    - ASG Dan Wesson revolvers: These guns are reliable, but have no hop up, so they lack range. Only capable of holding 6 rounds, these are not suitable for skirmishing due to the lack of range and the inconsistent FPS. Good, realistic backyard plinkers for collectors.

    - JG Skorpion, Mac 10: These are very reliable and rugged AEP's, clones of the Marui so plenty of upgrade options and magazines online from sites such as Eagle6. You will be outgunned by regular AEG's such as Combat Machines however due to the small gearbox and weak motor. Will make a decent side arm if using a high-capacity magazine.

    - Well R4 & R2: Decent AEP's, on par with JG. Clones of the Marui, so upgrade options are available. The plastic Well use for the AEPs are very poor, and will shatter under heavy use. The R4's magazine release will snap if used a lot, so take care. Please consider the JG over the Well if possible.

If you have a set budget from £100 - £200, the options are essentially endless. This is the budget you need for a good reliable gun. Spring guns aren't included on this list as you'll end up spending more than you'll realise when you end up upgrading them.

    AEGS:

    - Any: G&G Combat Machines/GC16, Cyma AK's/Mp5's/M14's, JG G36/AUG/AK's/G3s, ICS M4's/Mp5's(Sportline)/AK's/G33/Sigs/Mx5's, Classic Army Mp5's/M4's/AK's/P90, SRC G36's, ASG Sten-gun/MP40/MP44/AUGs(JG)/M14(Cyma), APS AK's, King Arms P90 and D-Boys KAC/AK's.

    Pistols:

    - Any: Tokyo Marui gbb pistols! Their Hi-capas, Glocks, M9's and 1911's have the most after market parts. KWA/KSC pistols are also very good, the Glocks are extremely robust apart from the full auto versions due to their weak fire selector. Marui pistols will work fine on propane/green gas, though I wouldn't recommend using propane/green gas in them on warm days, stick to HFC gas instead. KWA/KSC gbb's have inferior hop up designs, as the 'nub' that is used to apply pressure is just a tiny ball bearing, whereas in the Marui pistols, they use VSR buckings and regular nubs.

"Why aren't sniper rifles/DMR's included?" . Spring guns aren't included on this list as you'll end up spending more than you realise when you start upgrading them to 'outperform everyone on the field'. DMR's are just AEG's; put an oversized scope on an unweildy rifle and you've got a DMR.

If you have a set budget above £200 to £300, any AEG will do. Consider Krytac AEG's as they're very well shimmed and have excellent air compression. If you like realism, try gas blowback rifles such as WE/GHK/KJWorks, the WE's will definitely require upgrading for long-term use, also consider HPA use for consistency (or Tippman M4's). If you don't like the idea of buying gas but still want the realism, consider the Marui recoil shock series or CTW's.

    Hope this helps!

VCRA defence, UKARA is a retailers' association with a database.  It's been over a decade since this law was past, anyone who still doesn't doesn't get it needs to go and do some reading.  Don't ask other people who don't know what they're talking about, go find some proper articles and look up the actual act on the government website; it's right there, easy to find and not that complicated to understand the basics.

If you don't have a defence from prosecution under the VCRA laws, don't manufacture, import or attempt to purchase a RIF.  Being on UKARA's database is not the only defence.

I'm not going to start talking about the false economy of 8fields, nuprol and viper vs surplus issue kit or hunting down quality stuff for the same price 2nd hand, because that's a lesson most people have to learn for themselves.

if you do then put any tape you want on it and spray it any colour you like. You have a defence You don't need a 'UKARA' to do this, it is only a way of showing a retailer you have a defence for buying a gun.

If you do get some tan stuff, I'd suggest that it be things like the plate carrier/vest, pouches, kneepads (if any), etc... Maybe even your t-shirt/jacket if you wanted even less but I think multicam looks great with tan.

I updated my kit a bit.
the same concept from my last post remains, but i decided to switch from a backpack to a battle belt..
This is more of a "Wake up early on sundays and go slap your friends in the face" kit..

On my chest rig: i've eliminated the small tan utility and the radio pouch in favour of a Templars Gear soft utility pouch in MC, looks better and holds a lot more stuff.

    On my battle belt:
the belt itself is a Invader Gear tan belt, with a Helikon cobra inner belt in OD, i've put my radio pouch on the right and i'll have my comms wires running diagonally underneath my chest rig to end up on my left shoulder, this because i'm right handed and i want to be able to communicate while still being able to shoot the bad guys.
Next to that i have a Invader Gear MC utility, which stores my IFAK and snacks, then a cheap ass Royal (italy's equivalent of Nuprol) horizontal MC utility pouch that holds my 1200rnd mag and a bottle of water, a Condor tan roll up dump (will switch to a MC one soon and web this one on my jpc) and a Condor map pouch, still in MC, which basically holds all those little items i may need to use, such as spare batteries, tools, eyepro cleaning cloths, you name it, i have it in there.

Compared to my "old" kit i've lost a lot of storage space in favour of a lower profile, improved mobility and overall reduced weight.
There's also a more subtle reason, there's a lot of new members in my team who don't carry a backpack or a decent kit, so they always ask others to carry their bbs/clothing/spares. I guess it's a good way to teach them what to carry and what to leave in the car depending on the day.

I'll be trying this kit out next week, since i can't play this sunday ( :'( ) and soon i'll add a picture with the kit on my person.

Anyone not cohering with these rules will face a suspension, ban or deletion of their account, this includes all posts and topics.

    The Guidelines

    • Search
There is a search feature on this forum that will help you to find information that may have already been posted up. Often people experience very similar problems so the chances are that your question has already been answered is highly likely. Regulars to the forums will usually be aware if your question has already been answered several times before, so some may become annoyed you didn't use the search feature.
There is a three character minimum length for searching, i.e. MP5, hpa, fps.
Try using different search terms to get more results.

    • Giving advice
Give solid advice only if you are sure what you are talking about. Don't mislead people as at best you are risking their money, and at worst, you are risking their safety. It's much better to say your only guessing and let others add to your answer than to lead the person into doing something wrong, and coming back and pointing the finger at you.

    • Post in the appropriate sub-forums
If you want to chat about the latest Airsoft releases, do it in "Latest News". If you are new to the forums and want to ask a question, it might be best in the "Advice & Technical Help" forum. If you want to sell something, the "Classifieds" forums are the place to announce it. Basically, have a look at all the categories and post where you think your topic will be best suited.

    • Use descriptive titles for new topics
Posting a topic with the title "Look here!", or "Please help", will not attract the attention of the users. If you use titles like "JG G36C gearbox problem", or "New gun from ICS!", more people will view your post and will know what they are about look at. Do not post titles in ALL CAPS, do not post misleading titles ("clickbait").

    • Use good English and check your spelling!
"1337-Speak" should also not be used on these boards. Nor should "text speak", use your word processing software to check for basic spelling and grammar errors, we aren't looking for the best English, but it is a lot easier to read a checked post, than another like, "hi, wel i av a prob wiv me gun u c nd i dnt no wot 2 do".  Adding punctuation, full stops and commas make it easier to read.

    • Use Personal Mail (PM)
Instead of posting in a Sales / Swaps topic which will cause it to 'bump' that topic just use your PM to communicate asking and answering questions. Sellers should be aware that any post, for whatever reason (especially answering questions or making a comment), that are before the 7 days is considered a bump.
If you cannot receive PM then try deleting some old ones to free up space.

    • Caps lock
Do not post in all Caps lock as it looks like you are shouting at somebody and is also very annoying to read.
Topic and advert titles are to be in normal sentence case, not in all CAPITALS.

    • Don't post duplicate topics
Multiple topics started about the same thing may be deleted, merged or moved at the moderators' or my discretion.

If you intend on using the Classifieds forum you must read and follow the rules

    • Use "Smileys" effectively
"Smileys" can be used in your forum posts. If you are joking about something, use them to help indicate that your statement was made humorously. They can be used to indicate your mood and show that something was not meant to be taken seriously. If you don't use them, people will assume you are being serious. Arguments have broken out before because of a misunderstood joke.

    • No Arguing
Don't argue, if you feel offended by the comments of another user or believe a post is offensive, report it to the moderators, and they or I will be deal with it. Starting a fight may result in sanctions for all those involved. Our first decision is our final one!

    • Be nice to other forum users
Treat others as you would like to be treated to yourself. There is absolutely no need to be abusive on these forums. If you are then your posts / topics will be edited or deleted, you may be given a warning, you may get your account suspended, and persistent offenders will be banned.

    • Post Spam
Don't post just to raise your post count, there is no bonus in it, and moderators will become frustrated with the spam. Continued post spamming will result in a suitable sanction.

    • Be Constructive
If you don't have something constructive to add to a thread then don't post at all. This applies especially in the "Classifieds" section, if you have something to say, PM it to the seller. Comments like "good luck with the sale" or "nice gun" are also not appreciated.

Repeatedly ignoring these guidelines when you post, may lead to your posts or account being moderated/edited.

If you intend on using the Classifieds forum you must read and follow the rules

    Forum Rules

The following are rules that must be adhered to. Failure to follow these rules will attract the attention of the forum moderators. All moderators are friendly people and follow the rules laid out to them, they are there to enforce the forums rules, if you have a problem with a particular moderator please PM me "proffrink" personally.

    • Thread bashing/trolling
There will be some posts or threads in the forum that you may not like. If you dislike somebody's thread or some of the people participating in the discussion simply don't bother reading or replying to it. Posting/trolling in it with the sole purpose of having it closed (bashing) will not be tolerated.

    • Off topic
Try to stay close to the original topic of a certain thread as much as you can. If you wish to talk about something else make a new topic, do not use an existing one. Remember to use the search function as there may already be a topic for what you wish to talk about.

    • Spam
Adding posts that contribute nothing to the conversation (spam) will be deleted or merged with a previous post. Do not "bump" your threads by posting irrelevant information or just "bump". It is spam and will be deleted. Continuous spamming will result in warning points being added to your account, a suspension, or a ban from the forums.

    • Advertising
No one is to use their account to place advertisements in their signature, avatar or any posts. Anyone caught will have their account, including all posts and topics deleted. They may also be banned by IP depending on the seriousness of the offence.

    • Duplicate Accounts
Each user is only allowed one account. Duplicate accounts take up valuable system resources and annoy other forum users. It is very easy to spot duplicate accounts created or used by the same person, and any duplicate accounts found will be removed.

Breaking the following rules will result in an immediate IP ban, deletion of account and removal of all posts and topics.

    • Absolutely NO
    References glorifying or inciting drug-misuse
References glorifying or inciting criminal behaviour or violence
Images or videos of graphic violence
Images or videos of an adult or graphically sexual nature
Images or videos that show drug misuse

    • Racial, Sexual and Religious Equality
This site makes no discrimination between people of different race, gender or religion. Airsoft is a sport for all, and these forums reflect that. We welcome everyone except those who demonstrate intolerance toward others.

    • Illegal/Banned Subjects
You cannot discuss anything that will help someone break the law in his or her locale. This means talking about:
How to evade paying tax on imported goods
How to make a semi-automatic replica shoot fully-automatic in a country that does not allow this feature
How to make your own or modify pyrotechnics
How to get restricted items past customs
How to get restricted items if you are under-age
    Any other illegal activities

If you intend on using the Classifieds forum you must read the and follow the rules  The link is very accessible from within the Classifieds forum if you wish to read the rules at a later date.

I don't think anyone's ever got that riled up over mixed camo, I've worn mixed camo to almost every game I've ever played and nobody made the slightest comment; I'm sure it happens rarely but not that often give how common it is for people to do.  I did get some real sh*tty remarks about "how rich I must be to have real magpul" many years ago when Magpul was 'the' thing (2010-11 ish I think), never an issue with mixed clothing though.  I'm more indecisive about my outfits than your average lady before a night out, also I tend to like the look of 2 just totally mismatched colours/patterns, especially if they're a bit more 'unusual'.
