The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
Galvatron and 3 others reacted to Colin Allen for a topic
This morning, I loaded up the Volvo and headed off to Splatoon. Commandeering a table, I set up the two guns I would be using and then went out to set up and chrono two second hand guns that I had bought recently; one was spot on, putting out 1.05J and pinging BBs out a very long way, while the other was also reaching a very satisfactory range but was considerably underpowered. It will be on the work table when I get an opportunity. Around 70 players were present. I was pleased to meet up with Gary again; he is a chap with a very interesting background and we are two of the "more mature" players at the site. After the usual morning rituals of the chrono and the safety brief, the first game was Spinners; there is a spinner in each of the three sections of the site and the aim was to control at least two of them. For once, I stayed in the middle section, where we had a hard fight but eventually secured the spinner and set it to our colour. We then struggled to defend it as enemy players attacked us from the other two sections; however, when the game ended, it was still pointing our way, as was one of the others. Victory! After a return to the safe zone to refill mags etc, the next game involved getting smoke grenades to the grey helicopter in the container field. Each team had three smoke grenades, which were located in the furthest section of the site; they could only transport one at a time, going back to collect the next one once they had bombed the helicopter. The teams started at opposite ends of the container field, with the grey helicopter in the middle, albeit closer to the banded team's start point and regen than ours, which was not where I had expected it to be as the layout of the container field had changed somewhat since last time I was there. At the start, both teams sent about half their players off to get the first smoke grenades, while the remainder fought for control of the area around the grey helicopter. Those of us in the latter group had a long and grinding fight, while rumours abounded about the presence or absence of smoke grenades. The enemy quickly got two of theirs into the helicopter, which seemed ominous; however, following that, our transport team got their mojo together while the rest of us pushed the banded team back so that our grenades could be set off in it. A 3-2 victory! After a break for lunch, the next game was to transport a bomb from the far end of the field to any one of the four vehicles in the container field (two helicopters and two buses). The bomb had a timer, which was started at the beginning of the game to set it off when the time allowed expired. Therefore, as the attackers, we had to get it into a target and then protect it until the end of the game. The defenders could try to retake the vehicle and move the bomb 1m outside it. Fighting through the central section of the site, we launched lots of probing attacks into the container field, finally deciding to try to get the bomb onto the red bus, which was successfully done after a struggle. It seemed that not all of the enemy realised that it was there, as some of them continued to defend the other potential targets; this made the defence of the bus fairly straightforward and the bus was blown up! Victory! After more reloading of magazines, this game was reversed; I joined some of my colleagues defending the right hand side of the container field, covering the red bus and the grey helicopter. The enemy pushed hard and repeatedly broke our defence, but we pushed them out every time, although on one occasion they got the bomb into the grey helicopter. Having retaken it, we moved the bomb the required 1m away and locked the area down until the end of the game, when it blew up in the open. Victory! As the last game was a team deathmatch, which would then turn into a Filipino deathmatch where hit taking was not obligatory and you only had to put your hand up when you could not take any more, I and a fair number of the more sensible (older!) players elected to leave. It was a good day of airsoft, the best that I have had at Splatoon for quite a while; based on it, I will be coming back rather more frequently than previously. EN 166 B is the lowest rating for airsoft, these look to be EN 166 F which would be not airsoft safe If like me you need glasses to be able to see, I've been using these with inserts for the past 7 years: https://www.bztactical.co.uk/nuprol-battle-pro-eye-protection-with-insert-grey-frame-smoke-lens and have taken many a shot to the lenses with them and survived. I would recommend something full seal though honestly. Bloc are highly rated and I am tempted to jump over to them myself however the pricing is a bit off putting - However you can't really replace an eye should it get damaged so 🤷♂️ My Dad uses a Dye mask over his glasses (Which are quite a large frame) too which is another good option!4 points -

Had a successful game day last weekend with the OSW It’d be remiss not to treat it to an upgrade and a little add on as a treat The steel sling point fits beautifully, and feels way nicer than the Magpul one I had on previously as a place holder I’m still dicking around with the hand stop to find an optimal position for it, I may flip it round and have it forward a touch3 points -

Make sure they're actually rated for airsoft and be careful with cutting into them, it could weaken the lenses and cause them to lose their strength2 points

Theres nothing wrong with budget brands (provided they are up to standard) My first goggles were the entry level, and I kept them for many years (with lens changes), a couple of paint jobs and they were in my lending collection. Even when going on to ‘premium ranges’ I also bought a rental type, because I wanted that colour scheme and they fitted my head (I still have that set in the box)1 point

Great reply and suggestions, thanks. I have been using the full face masks at the site I shoot at, although I did buy my son his own mask. I think I will get a full face mask as suggested. We both wear cheapish goggles when target shooting in the garage with paintball and now airsoft as there's no one shooting back at us. That's really what I brought these for. Cheers. Rick. I appreciate the advice mate, thank you. Yep, the garage is safe and I have a padded and secure backstop to reduce ricochets. I do shoot sub 12 ftlb airguns in there without issues. I usually wear a set of Stihl chainsaw goggles over my glasses. (Found em in garage when we moved in.) As I mentioned he has a budget brand, (but the same as my local site hands out) full mask as I quite like the little shit.... But lesson learned thanks guys. I don't want either of us to get hurt. Thanks for the replies.1 point

Your original photo does not work for me, but from the specification sheet and reference to Lidls it looks like they could be these : https://youtu.be/WcFNrOIzpYs The impact level is very basic at EN166F which is just for general workshop / workplace use - to protect from things thrown up, not from things being shot. They are not even rated for ricochet It’s better than nothing, but the inclusion of your son sends the wrong message Don’t drill them - not just because you don’t know the effect that it has on what you drill into, but you don’t need any (extra) antifog ventilation as you should not be doing any activity to cause fogging in them (I say ‘extra’ because the video references a small element of ventilation, which if that is the right goggle then it indicates that they are designed just for workshops etc and are for just keeping the dust & cuttings etc kicked up away from eyes Assuming you have a safe and legal environment, for home target shooting get some airsoft shooting glasses with EN166B rating, and ideally a strap, even if it is just a surfer’s glasses strap to hold them in place (There’s no point in glasses having impact ratings if they bounce off your head on impact)1 point

Usually 60 - 70% of retail cost total. BB's aren't worth selling online as it'll end up costing you more for postage due to the weight, and the Li-Po's would be another hard thing to post as they'd need to be declared which puts the price up. The replica itself is £459.99 brand new, 60% of that is £275.99 The extra mag will add maybe £5 value. No idea on the "Laser scope" but it looks like what AirsoftWorld has for £35 so £21 to the right buyer (Niche and possibly unusable for some people) Factoring in the two tone which does sadly detract value to the majority, you'd be looking at low end of £280 for the replica, spare mag and laser scope (Which isn't even a scope?!) Factor in shipping cost (Roughly £11 via Parcelforce 48 Hour) and PayPal fees when totalling price I'd say around £3001 point

Shotguns
OMinCheshire reacted to jzmalexander for a topic
I don't have any gas shotguns but what I have seen from performance is that they have worse range and accuracy than a good spring shotgun, and their main advantage is the 6 shot mode, however that reduces range significantly. From experience I'd recommend any metal Cyma spring shotgun, they have proper range and good grouping (unless you get a faulty model, in which case you should return it). I play at a woodland site and use these shotguns often, they are tri-shot with fixed hop up but with 0.28s can easily reach 40-50m range, though past that the grouping of the 3 BBs will worsen. Don't believe the websites, as the power on these says 280FPS on most sites, but I have bought 3 and they all do 340-370 FPS. If its any testament to their performance, I started with one of these as my first gun (CM355LM) and play at a woodland site, they are my go-to gun and they work fine at the longer ranges. Generally it surprises the other players that the range and grouping is so good on a spring gun. Also these are essentially no-maintenance guns as they are spring. https://www.18airsoft.com/products/cyma-m870-tactical-sawed-off-spring-shotgun-cm357m?_pos=2&_psq=cm357&_ss=e&_v=1.0 https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/cyma-cm-356m-tactical-full-metal-shotgun1 point -

I’m not familiar with anywhere out there where you could browse a shop A web search shows Platoon stores and Modern Warrior have airsoft shops, full goggle ranges are less likely as these look to be airsoft shops rather than mixed or paintball. Skirmish Billericay has a photo implying a bit of an airsoft shop. I have played there in the past but don’t know if they would have much stock for goggles1 point

Philbucknall reacted to Lyndication for a topic
VFC tends to do either licensed releases, or unlicensed. When they do licensed releases, like an official KAC L403A1 replica, they tend to make sure everything is above board. They get the rights to MLOK via KAC, for example, as they're reproducing KAC's design that in turn includes Magpul's MLOK IP. When VFC wants to do something completely unlicensed, they go to one of their shell companies, like Maruyama, APFG, or Star Arms. That way they can do B&T or Sig products without incurring the relevant costs or design oversight. For example, VFC P320s via Stark Arms or Parabellum run much better overall than the officially licensed Sigair P320s because Sig demanded they be designed for CO2 first and foremost as military/law enforcement training aids and Airsoft toys distant second. Generally KAC is not gunna want its officially licensed replica to have stolen IP from other companies, so you tend to get basic A2 grips and the like on them. Overall it tends to be pretty all-or-nothing in terms of replicas. That's before you get into companies that just hold licenses and outsource to companies like VFC, such as Umarex or Cybergun.1 point -

There's 3 I use, but I'll list them in order of preference. I run it on a molle belt. The other two can be mounted on a regular belt just fine though.1 point
