Oh you're serious... Hesitation then. Coming from a real steel background, where Im working 30 weeks out of the year training guys who are going overseas and such; we really have to drill the proper procedures of combat into them, and as an extension ourselves. As such its really easy to slip into a "real life" mode while airsofting, especially at big MilSims. In airsoft, you mess up you get pinged. IRL, you mess up your whole team dies. So when Im doing my best to teach these guys how to acquire targets, how to know when to move, etc I subconsciously fall into those practices, when none of that matters in airsoft haha. The amount of times Ive been low on ammo, whip out the handgun and hold a corner for 15 minutes waiting for people then smack myself going "no, rush the buggars itll be fun" annoys me looking back at the break. Doesnt really happen in weekend games, but those multi-hour long MilSims... Just send it and have fun.

It actually makes sense, given the tech experience of the average Nov's customer (absolutely zero, otherwise he wouldn't have customers at all).

It is also a way to fuck people over the shitload of complaints he will be getting once the first batch gets delivered.. "told ya not to open it, now warranty is void, fuck you"

    Big sad right there.

Makes me wonder if he ever had control of his products development.

IMO, yes. I think once he started getting that company money he realized life was good and started his own products. It stopped being a hobby and started being a job.

I remember watching this video when he released it and I was genuinely interested in his opinion. In hindsight I now realise he was just warming his viewers up for an SSP1 sales pitch...

Yea... However, the reason I knew a bit more at the time was due to me offering him and a few other Youtubers the (at the time) new GLS holster. Would have solved his holster troubles. However, he declined. I won't get into it more than that as I was officially working for Safariland at the time, but I essentially knew at that point he was being told what to use, not making his own choices.

all the airsoft youtubers did, it's the same old tale:

starts youtubeing for a bit of fun

gets some views, some good gameplay

naturally encounters a cheater in the wild, thinks fuck it i'll upload the footage anyway

boom video explodes, suddenly ad revenue is on the radar

starts putting up more cheater videos, but there aren't enough cheaters

well, now we go try to find the cheaters and the bad sportsmanship, and if we can't find them we'll make them

the market is as much to blame, after all the cheater videos are what get the views, but ultimately it's become a parody of airsoft.

unfortunately kid watches it, thinks "aww cool i wanna do that"

marketing opportunity, them dollar signs start rolling in the eyeballs

    and here we are.

nov is probably a nicer fella in reality than he portrays himself as, same as the likes of mustang, but you act as something for long enough it's gonna change you.

Yea there’s a handful of youtubers I’ve met who still maintain a good attitude and good videos. Alfonse, Swamp Sniper, and I believe Matt (though I’ve never played with him - we chatted at SHOT a few years back).

  5. See, I used to like Nov. Back when he was just himself - SB Fabi would occasionally be there, but it was just a guy who loved his VSR playing the game, and doing well. I died a bit inside when he accepted the Redwolf or whoever's offer, and ditched his TM G18 and Safariland holster setup for whatever flavor of the day they wanted him to use in a cloth holster. That was the day I knew he was going downhill, and we may have finally reached rock bottom.

On a side note, whats with all the VFC hate? Theres an absolute ton of them on this side of the pond, and while older models were admitably bad, everything Avalon and up has been a massive success here. Heck I own like 10 VFC guns - an Avalon, three M&P-9s for dry fire practice at our range, a M27 LE, a M27 GBB, a 417, a G28, a G28 LE, and a few others. My TM 416 NGRS Delta broke before any of those.

Gotta be a de-ac right?  Real shame it's not legal here like it (presumably?) is in the states.  A gearbox in the body of a de-ac spits bbs no differently to one inside an airsoft receiver set after all, with the right investment and machine tools one could make some super sweet guns that way with infinitely higher external quality than anything from an airsoft brand, that's when airsoft versions even exist.  Which presumably (again) will be the end result here so that's cool.

Nope. Though I am honestly happy you two can't tell. Its a DP-28 Im making using a Echo1 ZB-30 body, a real DP-28 mag, and 3D printing a three-piece adapter to make it all work together.

  7. Well, time to necro. So a few things have happened since my last update. First, the guy making my stock went AWOL. And has been so for about a year and a half... And he kept my gun... Honestly I kind of gave up after that. The Echo1 ZB-30 is a discontinued gun and I paid around 400 quid for mine, so I wasn't really wanting to buy another, assuming I could even find one. So I kind of shelved the entire thing. I did continue to work on the uniform though, as I figured I could still make a Spetsnaz loadout or something.  I built up a decent SSG gearbox for my PP-19-01, and successfully modified it to take a Taginn Tag-015 launcher. These are ultra rare launchers from Taginn - lost of people know of the ML-36, but the Tag-015 is the AK variant. It was only made in small batches, and was rather quickly discontinued due to lack of interest from the community. Taginn launchers are kind of ridiculously expensive, even though they are worth it, and more people run guns with under-mounted RISs than people run AKs, by a large margin. Plus the ML-36 has a standalone kit. However I happened across a sale of one that was leaking, for around 300 quid. A steal in my book, and all it took was a quick replacement/restoration of the o-rings inside. Some external modification was needed - the LCT PP-19-01 is a short barreled gun and doesn't have a standard AK front sight block. But I added a barrel extension and cut it just enough to fit the launcher. I also use larger batteries than can fit in the upper receiver, so I had a custom battery tube made that fits inside of the Zenitco stock. Finally I have a real Kobra sight that came off my real steel KR-9 to use as its optic. The gun is now perfectly fieldable and fits two three preferred roles; SMG and AT. Again, my whole point of this kit was to simultaneously keep as close to the character as possible, but accept modifications to actually make the kit usable at a weekend-long MilSim. However I am not entirely happy with it, and am actually making a Titan build that I will likely replace it with.

My Maruzin PPK/S was replaced by a bronze-kitted Maruzin PPK. Its slightly longer than the PPK/S, and 100% cooler looking. I also finished my vest setup - it now allows for 6 PP-19-01 mags (8 total with the two in the gun), two PPK mags, two TRMRs, a SWAT VTG, 5 Taginn rounds, radio, genuine Soviet canteen (not gonna ever drink out of that lol), and a satchel on the back for an HPA tank and bladder. I bought a few more uniforms - my Chechen ATACs is cold-weather gear, and we don't really get that here in the Southern US. I now have Berezka, Partizan, Fall Partizan, EMR, and Desert EMR (I can't find the official name for the pattern, but its an arid variant of EMR). I also got a second Maska-1 and painted it to somewhat match the Fall Partizan pattern. At this point my kit was fully fieldable.

At this point I thought I was done. I had a few options for a Russian loadout, and could even use it at MilSims for both sides. The Tachanka dream could be laid to rest...until last week...

Im browsing HopUp (a popular sellers forum here in the US), and come across a sale post for a working Echo1 ZB-30, for 200 quid. It was missing its charging handle, and more importantly its butt-pad. A quick search shows both parts - as well as replacement internals - can be bought online. So I bought the gun, and The Lord lives again! A new charging handle assembly, butt-pad, and metal flash hider (original was plastic) were ordered soon after. The gun arrived yesterday, and the other parts should be here Tuesday. In the meantime I took measurements and begun CADing for the mag adapter. I didn't want to do anything too permanent, as I'd like the ability to keep this thing as a ZB-30/MG-30 if desired. So far it looks like it'll be either a 2 or 3 part print; the first is ready for printing (I didn't get much sleep last night haha). However my printer is being a PITA right now, so I'm sort of on hold for now. Ill keep y'all updated!

@SeniorSpaz87English Kiwi here (The designer)! If I can get an Ares to use as a reference, I can make the mounting block and sight rail kit to allow the EK3 to mount up to an ares 😀

If I didnt live in the US Id sent you mine. Well, let me know. I know theres a few other differences between the 85 and 86 as well; I dont think the barrel brace rod is going to cause an issue, but one does have to remember the bipod and that the handguard is actually shorter on the L86. Oh well, it may just be a pipe dream but I want a RIS'd L86 😧

  9. Ive always wanted to do a WWII build, but get put off for various reasons. Im slowly making progress though. When I lived in the UK I did have a "Downed aircrew" setup that included a RAF bomber jacket, Colt Peacemaker revolver (before the US got involved in the war a lot of these were shipped over to the UK), and a stolen MP-40 (as in from a German. Not, you know...). That was years ago though, back before I could do anything as simple as replace a bucking. Ive done several Soviet early Cold War loadouts, so I am working my way to WWII. I like the idea of going with a boltie over just being another MP-40/Sten/Thompson; since Ive got a VSR-X it can certainly preform. The main issue with it is its size - its got a much wider barrel than any of the mainstream WWII bolties. I am not locked down to any one faction, but I do have the US/British handguns already - that same Peacekeeper (I just pulled it out after not touching it for 4 years and it still works fine), and an old Western Arms SV Infinity 1911 that I fitted with some real Colt 1911 grips. Its not perfect, but close enough. Ive also got several pages of gear bookmarked that I just havent pulled the trigger on... Maybe once Covid winds down a bit and work money starts flowing again...

Then again, I am making good headway into my DP-28 build. Russian LMG gunner anyone?

  10. Coming from the MilSim side of things, I find the "relaxed" medic rule to be the best, and an adaptation to fit weekend games would be easy. For the games I often attend, its: player gets hit, starts bleed out. If medic'd by a friendly you're back in, down a life. If 5 minutes goes by, head back to respawn and reset your lives. While MilSims tend to need bandaging or something similar, the 10 second hands-on rule works just fine for weekend games. Dead players waiting for a medic follow normal dead player rules, must sit or lie down, red rag or light for low light games, etc. The advantages of a system are, of course, what @Lollingsgrad said, plus it gives a side more things to focus on. Do you, as a player, run up to medic a friendly - taking yourself out of the fight for the 30 sec or so it takes to get to them and medic them, or do you hold an advantageous position? That being said, it creates an interesting sudden lull when someone has bled out - as all these players suddenly head to respawn. It allows the winning team to take some ground, and keep the game going. The constant revive system like Lollings mentioned can make taking out a player seem pointless, if all he has to do is walk back a few meters, and now youve lost the element of surprise.

I've had events that I planned for weeks get washed down due to poor spawn placement - no one wants to have to climb a massive hill to get to the respawn at the top. Im a little pudgy but used to being on my feet all day in a good amount of kit - working as a range instructor does that to you. And armor inserts add a lot more weight than the stuff I switch out for airsoft. Yet a normal one and done spawn system just bogs things down on larger fields. So yea, Im all for medic rules for larger games.

  11. If you wear a Plate Carrier of any sort, check out IcePlates. Assuming they exist in the UK. If its going to be a really hot day Ill freeze two - one for the front and one for the back. As they fit in your plate pouch theres no need for a pack of any sort. I use them for casual games, full blown MilSims, range days, and even hiking though obviously in a backpack and not in a vest haha.

  12. Hey, its the necro-man. Posted some range time today - I was testing out my new GoPro Max, and figured if I cant play airsoft, lets try it on something a bit louder and more expensive. I also posted my Microgun Hill video - a vid I didnt plan to post due to my helmet mount coming loose and causing that pinging sound. But people wanted it, so its up. Ive also posted some pre-Covid footage from my US indoor site. Not a huge fan of it, but then again Im spoiled due to The Mall.

  13. Ive got both. The TM MP7 GBB was my first larger RIF, and worked well at The Mall. I also have the Bingo HPA variant of the AEP. I like it more than the GBB due to better range, accuracy, and rof - but again thats on HPA. The AEP should be fine for CQB, but if you want that coolness factor then go for the GBB.

Well if you want to come out at an Airsoft game.  These guns will do it for you.

Speedsofters need to be banned at all sites, along with HPA guns. Backpacks at games are for spare ammo, water and haribo.

Nobody needs a HPA Airsoft gun with their ROF, unless it is a heavy, bulky support weapon build.

Disagree completely. HPA is just as fine as anything else - its the players that make it an issue. This DSG that shoots 60RPS is the same as this HPA that shoots that. At the same time, this AEG that shoots 25RPS isnt any different than this HPA that shoots the same. Sure, its easier for HPA users to crank up the ROF/FPS, but it still comes down to the player to do so. I own around 12 HPA guns; from my Wolverine Bolt VSR to a semi-locked G28 to 18 RPS Daytonas to LMGs in the upper 20s to my CA M132 Microgun at 32RPS all the way up to a 60RPS Classic Army M134 Minigun. Banning HPA just means youre either too lazy or dont care enough to properly marshal it.

Now, does speedsoft belong at every field? No. And youll find that most speedsofters have difficulty playing at most fields - no cheek weld with no sights on a gun tuned for high-semi ROF doesnt really help you that much against an LMG 60m away. You wouldn't find any speedsofters at The Mall back in the day - Luke and the crew would shut down that style of play. Let the speedsofters have their paintball-esque fields and tiny indoor arenas; they arent really an issue elsewhere. And where they are they tend to be banned pretty quickly for breaking the rules.

I've started designing a machine pistol AEG using a custom gearbox. I'm currently getting accurate drawings of all of the existing parts before I can start drawing up the 3d printed and laser cut parts around them. I got fed up staring at a bunch of parts and mocked up a rough layout of where everything is going and how it should look. I'm really excited to get more done on this.

Jontron Ill Take Your Entire Stock GIF - Jontron ...

If youre truly going ground-up, make the cylinder v2 spec. I know several people who would love to HPA one of these, but to do so the cylinder and piston area needs to be v2 spec. Also, though im sure its due to simply being a rough mock-up, but add rails (probably top rail, with optional Mloc or Keymod so people who like attachments can add them) and a threaded barrel. If possible, use existing magazines (Umarex UMP or Echo 1 MP5 straight mags would work well). Stock options would be nice as well - either a MP7-style collapsible stock or a simpler MPX-style that attaches to a rail would be easy to configure, and could easily be run with or without a stock. Im curious to see how youre going to implement the trigger - theres not really any room for a trigger board or contacts with the mag and barrel right there. If you get seriously into the build, make a post about it - Im sure there are plenty of people on here smarter than me who could help you out.
