  1. No worries, glad to help. May be worth mentioning the thread and gun you want it for, he may be able to offer further advice, Pete is a great guy, very helpful and great service too.
  2. Problem with these cheap guns is they are virtually impossible to dismantle without destroying them, have no spares available and are generally not compatible with standard parts which fit more expensive guns, and even if you could fit a decent gearbox/motor you'd be looking at upwards of £40 just for basic ones.So if you buy it just use as it is until it breaks, saving up for something better in the meantime. Plastic gearbox isn't the end of the world but if the GEARS are plastic then a. I'd be amazed if it gets anywhere near 290fps and b. it won't last long if it achieves a) !
  3. A high torque motor will give faster trigger response but a slower rate of fire. If you're otherwise happy with the guns performance as it is a standard motor will do fine. Something like this (or one of the other long shaft motors, ZCI are not bad at all for a budget brand) http://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/motors-parts/zci-motor-standard-long Pete "ak2m4" is a forum member. He did do SHS motors too cheaper than that Amazon link but currently is out of stock.
  4. May be worth reading through the GBBR thread as there is some discussion on wide bore barrels there, yes in theory you will lose some fps as gas can escape around the bb as it travels along the barrel. But worth chronoing on 144a gas first as that may well solve your problem. There are ways of modifying the floating valve in the blow back chamber to restrict the amount of gas flow (basically achieving what an NPAS valve does in a less technical or tuneable way) which I've done on a couple of guns with good results, but only because specific fit NPAS valves aren't available for them afaik (SRC AKS74U and KWC Mini Uzi).
  5. Apparently its non functional, Airsoft Ed did a good review here; http://www.airsoft-forums.co.uk/index.php/topic/24761-we-l85a2-gas-blowback-rifle/#entry182246
  6. taking the rubber out and soaking it in Silicon lube overnight might swell it a little (but dry the inside surface before reassembling) or try putting the hop on more? Seems extreme ordering one from Evike but when needs must I guess?!
  7. Yes it is! Apart from the lugging around bit lol! I have a Star M60E4 and its great fun (as in my username pic), its not especially heavy but it is awkward to carry around, even with a sling, due to the box mag sticking out one side and cocking handle the other, but none of that matters when the opposition see you walk past, on the way to dig in ready to hose them down! That said I don't use it half as much as I really should. And it has the original plastic gearbox shell still (which I trust more than their cast metal ones)! Most Support Weapons (not all) have a quick change spring facility so you can easily tailor it to suit the site being played. Box mags can on occasion be troublesome though, had loads of bother with mine until I rewired it.
  8. retailers usually only chrono randomly, different batches of identical guns may have different springs hence the figures quoted. Some will allow you to specify the spring you want at additional cost. When it comes to retailers there will always be someone who has had a bad experience with any of them, but for my money Airsoft World are pretty good. Cyma AK's have a good reputation for reliability and are generally cheaper than G&G too. As a rule avoid really cheap stuff (ie if its less than £100) unless you really know what you're buying. Having stuff 2-toned will add to delivery time unless its a manufactured 2-tone which is in stock, which can be posted straight out.
  9. If you're making a dedicated DMR then yes the gearbox & motor will need to be substantially modified/replaced to put out 400-450fps with 0.2s (depending on your site DMR limits) and locked to fire semi auto only (note you will have MED Minimum Engagement Distance rules imposed, usually 30m or so, so you would need a sidearm too, and play a different style to when using a standard aeg). DMR buiders usually put money into a well sorted hop unit too, as the whole point is to be able to outrange aegs at say 350fps. You don't really NEED a big telescopic sight but they can look very cool, but a 2x or 4x red dot will be more than adequate for airsoft ranges.
  10. First off the thread title is a little sensationalist to say the least. I don't think I'm alone in saying I'm not going to lose any sleep over this "threat". Airsoft isn't currently in danger of being banned, certainly not compared to what was threatened in 2006, when thankfully a consortium of players and retailers convinced the Government to grant defence to allow airsoft to continue with the proviso of the specific defences specified in the VCRA. It might not be a fantastic Act but its better than the alternative at the time of no more rifs. Its worth mentioning that the Govt at the time did not really realise what airsoft skirmishing was, but were enlightened to our pastime and the "suspense of disbelief" factor which was part of what allowed legit skirmishers to be able to keep the ability to buy rifs. Skirmishing has of course grown massively since 2007. But for any future threat to be met we would again need to rely on retailers and players to fight that threat. ANY Government in future cannot just ban airsoft overnight, it would require a change in the law by way of an amendment bill, which takes time to progress through parliament, allowing it to be challenged. A majority would still then need to vote in favour for it to proceed. Its best we keep playing, be seen to be responsible, and support our UK retailers, and worry about challenges when we KNOW they are happening, rather than panicking that a minor political party wants to stamp on us.
  11. before you fit all the gearbox components to the ZCI shell put the 2 halves together and check the fit of the hop unit into the front, its almost certain you will need to file a small amount away to get a good fit. I only say this as I didn't first time round and had to dismantle the entire gb in order to correct it and then thoroughly clean out the filings. The microswitch is a standard electrical component which you can get quite easily from places like Maplins if need be. However note that it is wired so that it fires when the actuator bar is REMOVED from the pressure switch (rather than it having to press the switch as in Ares guns), no biggie, just seems a bit "huh?" until you realise its a clever system that prevents half cycling as juice goes to the motor until the actuator returns to its correct position, presses the switch and cuts power. It works very well. Got 2 of these boxes and not had any problems despite neither having mosfet fitted.
  12. o rings will be standard sizes, but you'd need to know WHICH standard size to get the right ones, as there are many different valve types using different size rings. You can buy assortment packs of O rings from diy stores (or online probably), I got a box set of metric rings for a fiver from Aldi a few years ago and its fixed numourous gun and mag problems. Some Airsoft retailers have also started selling specific sizes for certain guns.
  13. Which make Chock? How much and from where? Been thinking of one myself . . . .
  14. If you've reset the hop unit and hop rubber in place and the hop unit is sitting correctly under spring pressure in the gearbox apperture then this might in itself push the fps up somewhat from what it was? Does the stock tube screw into the receiver or does it slide onto another tube which is cast as part of the receiver (like most M4 AEGs)? If its the former then you should be able to unscrew the stock tube and then access the QR spring release, if its the latter then yeah you'd have to remove the gearbox from the lower receiver, which is a pain, though not too difficult, but much better than having to open the gearbox.
  15. Probably worth going for a decent aftermarket mosfet rather than another G&G one in that case, as some seem to have had repeat problems with the stock one. Can't recommend one as I don't use them but there are plenty on here who do so over to them. . .
  16. On full auto in theory on a given motor and battery it will give a slightly faster rate of fire yes, BUT it will put slightly greater strain on the motor due to greater torque being required, meaning the motor will probably take longer to spin up, so on semi auto in particular it may slow down trigger response time (unless you already have a high torque motor fitted).
  17. I've used a couple of ZCI v2 shells in projects (also from ak2m4) and they are good for the money, really simple and come with all the electrical/fire selector/trigger parts already installed, just fitting gears and piston/cylinder components as required. The quick change spring is a useful feature but bare in mind in most guns you will still need to remove the gb to change the spring (unless it has a stock tube which screws into the receiver real steel stylee like Ares) Also the front opening will almost certainly need opening out slightly with needle files so the hop unit seats correctly, which means if you buy the complete gb it will need disassembling to avoid getting bits of metal in the working parts). However tbh I'd keep trying to sort the problem out first before splashing out on new parts/gbs.
  18. Cybergun don't actually make them, they have licensed copies made of other manufacturers guns, (pistols are mainly KWC and VFC oem), VFC are the actual makers of the FNX afaik. Cybergun don't seem to do spares, and VFC spares aren't widely available either so its probably a case of trawling some of the Hong Kong retailers such as Tiger111hk. Bear in mind if you do find one a VFC slide probably won't have trademarks on though. I'm not aware of any aftermarket parts to fit either (as they are designed to fit the Marui version). Good luck!
  19. KJ Works are supposedly direct copies of the TM guns, but how exact a fit it would be I've no idea. But the one you linked is out of stock too anyway!
  20. http://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/marui-g26-slide-part-g26-1 out of stock currently but £17 for standard TM slide would be the cheapest option. Worth dropping them a line to see if/when they are getting more in.
  21. There are a few here: https://bbguns4less.co.uk/categories/Black-UKARA-Guns/ Many on here will say to avoid retailers with "bbguns" in the name, I have never used them so can't comment, but I know others have used them with no problems. However I do have the A&K LR-300 and its a good rifle for the price (had to fit a new spring to bring it below 350fps though, but no big deal). edit: Had mine about 4 years now and never had a problem with it in that time. Metal Hop unit is TM rubber compatible as I fitted one along with a Madbull tbb, not that the original was bad but just my preferred set up.
  22. Why not stick it in the swaps section in trade for a 1911? Probably most cost effective solution.
  23. Welcome to the forum! You may find the topics posted under "New players" helpful, there is a skirmish site map in there too.
  24. I've had a cheapo £15 chest rig for a while now and worn it at a few skirmishes instead of my usual Webtex tac vest or M56 webbing, and actually quite like it, with 4 double mag pouches and 2 utility pouches plus large internal map pocket it holds a fair bit. However 2 issues were nagging at me: 1. No pistol holster. I tried wearing one on a belt but couldn't get on with it. The rig has belt loops but the holster would end up round my back as both the belt and holster would move. 2. It was a crappy digital ACU ish colour scheme which didn't fit the intended loadout (PMC/opfor as appropriate). After musing I decided that rather than sell it and buy one in olive or tan (which would still have the same pistol holster issues), I would modify and recolour it. Stage one was to remove one of the utility pouches (right hand side when worn, as I prefer this to having to reach across to the left side) by carefully unpicking/cutting the stitching away: followed by checking positioning of the holster (an old Viper one from my box of bits): An old sling was cut into lengths, these were then fixed with 2 part epoxy resin into a "molle-esque" grid pattern where the holster straps will sit (this being a far stronger method than my stitching, short of ripping the material off the chest rig the holster will NOT fall off! ): And lastly the whole vest was recoloured with olive brush on Fabric paint, which when ironed becomes wash resistant (its a chest rig - like its gonna get washed! ) and gives a nice "old used look": It will probably get a quick pass of Krylon at some stage; I went for olive as I mainly play woodland though I'm thinking of tan Krylon for weathering it lightly. We'll see. Anyway I'm quite pleased with how its come out for a low budget project!
