Airsoft_Mr B reacted to TheFull9 in Zero One and their Consistently Dubious Business Pratices
I've posted this over on Arnies already as well as facebook (to which a fair few people replied that they were very much unsurprised by the news), but the vast majority of people there already avoid this 'company'... a term I use very loosely.
Somewhere on my backup hard drive I've already got a screen cap of Zero One selling fingerless ACM knock-off versions of the Oakley carbon knuckle gloves (that were all the rage a few years ago) as supposed genuine Oakley products... at a full and genuine price tag of course. No mention of being copies anywhere on the product page, despite the fact Oakley never manufactured a version of the glove in question without the actual fingers. Looking around for something very specific a few days ago I wandered on to their site for the first time in a good few years; lo and behold within 10 seconds of looking around their 'store', I find they're scamming people (whether deliberately or not, it's still a scam) again. http://www.zerooneairsoft.com/product_info.php?products_id=8690 Just to be very clear, I've double checked with someone who works for PTS and looked at pictures of the MS2 slings that PTS used to sell; there's no doubt this is a cheap chinese rip. 1. The sling design shown is an MS2 copy, not an MS3 as the page title claims. 2. PTS only ever made black and tan MS2 replicas (under actual license from Magpul). 3. PTS never manufactured an MS3 at all. 4. The actual PTS MS2s had a rotating clip at the end point where the sling clipped to the rifle, this copy does not have the rotating hardware. 5. The stitched on label says Dynamics on these mislabelled forgeries. The PTS slings had a spot of velcro in that area and a came with small patch featuring the PTS logo. Few other little idiosyncrasies, but that's the meat of it. There's no question that these were made by a shady chinese factory in contravention of copyright and patenting. Now I know plenty of people aren't fussed about clones of gear and I'm aware of the fact that 99% of the time if somebody's buying a budget clone of a product they weren't planning on buying the original anyway, so businesses aren't likely to be losing out on anything at all significant; let me make it very clear that the argument about clone guns/kit is not at all the point I'm making here. The fact of the matter is they're charging 40 quid for something that probably cost less than a fiver to buy. 2 minutes of googling found a retail site selling the exact same product with some slightly more honest labelling and significantly more honest pricing:
http://www.snitactical.com/magpul-pts-ms2-multimission-sling-system-green-p-18.html
Now, potentially, someone working at Z1 may be simply somewhat ignorant of tactical gear products and, as with a lot of airsofters, is under the illusion that absolutely anything Magpul is PTS (who stopped making Magpul a good while ago now). However, this is no excuse and frankly I HIGHLY doubt that's the case at all. They would've known exactly what they were buying when they imported the things wholesale. I've obviously made sure to screenshot the page and host it in a couple of places, because if there is something dubious going on I've no doubt my link there will be non-functional in short order. They were deleted from my favourites many years ago, my personal recommendation: Don't spend your money with these people. Even if they have something you need a little bit cheaper than elsewhere, they're in the game of swindling British airsofters and are not deserving of any of your hard earned cash. -

If it is 600 New Zealand Dollars [believe that they are a NZ company ?] then that makes the Ballistic Ordinance Sound System GS203-A1 approximately £276. But if US Dollars then £400+. It makes it a specialist piece of kit and unlikely to be for mainstream airsoft when many have guns worth much less.
Edit: depends on UK retailer mark up, etc, how much the unit will actually cost. Ear protection could also be required.

£400 give or take some then? No thanks fair enough if it was £70 - £80 but really 400 quid?

Crye ACs (long discontinued) in my size, brand new at retail and for half the price of the G3s.

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to jcheeseright in Probably the most ridiculous idea you will ever hear about airsoft
the size of the drone required would be pretty large, a good few Kg, I personally wouldn't want that flying round over my head... one prop failure or a motor brush dying etc and you've got something really heavy dropping from height onto people.
That and if it can shoot at people, people will want to shoot back and there's no way you could make it rugged enough to stand up to that.

I'm looking at one from Shooter CB Gear, again, doubt you'll be charged for import duty / tax. They'll probably declare it's worth a lot less than you pay, and I've heard before that you aren't usually charged anything extra unless an order is valued at being worth £50 or more - then again I've heard elsewhere you are supposed to be charged on imports so idk it's a bit of a grey area I suppose.

Reducing velocity on AEGs is just a simple spring change, when you buy one they're numbered as M90 / M100 / M110 etc which refers to the velocity in metres per second and then you can pick which one corresponds to the desired FPS. It will vary anyway dependant on other factors such as your air seal in the gun but should be about the same, if not you can also cut an existing spring to reduce power.
With regards to using heavier BBs, this doesn't really work because you have to chrono all guns with 0.20s - as has been mentioned the power behind the BB still remains the same from my understanding.
Finally I can't help with maintenance cos I'm crap at it and don't maintain my guns enough tbch, does not help that I think there are a lot of different videos and people have their own conflicting techniques and ideas of how to do it.
For example silicone oil is commonly used for barrel cleaning, but others say use rubbing alcohol (it's a cleaner, not a lubricant like silicone oil) There's confusion where to use silicone oil (DO NOT put it on hop bucking) and so on
Most people will use blue towel stuff I think? (for cleaning barrel specifically, I'm still not sure if it is blue towel stuff that is used) whereas the Patrol Base blog suggests using cigarette filters which is pretty unique

Using heavier BBs may lower the FPS, but that's not the problem. It's all about the joules. I was tricked by this, I thought you could just use heavier BBs and wallah, I can use my gun legally.. Well, no, things don't work like that. It's quite long to explain, well it takes me some time to explain, but if you want me to, I can try to explain it to you - bare in mind I will most likely explain it over 3 paragraphs aha.

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Randymanpipe in POSSIBLE RIF BAN
I don't think they need to worry about RIFS, they do not pose a life threatening risk to civilians. They need to get a fkin grip on the black market trading in live firing arms that seem to be readily available across EU. Have you seen the list of live firepower that has been recovered in recent raids in france/belgium? O_O

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to beastmode in New Player Needs your help!!!
Not sure you really get what we are saying though basically you can't just buy a decent sniper riffle and expect it to be good out the box you have to spend a hell of a lot of time, effort and money on upgrades before its any good. This would come later down the line and is far from ideal for a new player to the game.

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to djben9 in New Player Needs your help!!!
yeah as others have said, take a read through topics on here, plenty to help you out with and play some games first, learn the sites etc, then maybe take up sitting back. You may not even like it after 3
and multi-quote!!!

f*cking hell,
youre a new guy with £1200 to spend? and under 18?
I don't know if this is a troll. but seriously go and play some rental games first and buy an AEG....to make sure you really like it.
perhaps then you can start spending £1200....

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to TheFull9 in Grey loadout?
There's really no 'surplus' of grey gear... unless you're buying WWII Wehrmacht.
Off the top of my head, the following tactical brands do various bits of apparel in grey:
-Arc'teryx LEAF
-Velocity Systems
-Arktis
-Tru-Spec
-LBX
-5.11
-Vertx
-Triple Aught Design
-Patrol Incident Gear
Then for rigs, pouches and other bits you've got the following:
-HSGI
-Blue Force Gear
-Haley Strategic
-Grey Ghost Gear
-LBX
-Magpul
-Vel Sys
-5.11
Between mil1st and tactical-kit you'd be able to put together a loadout without importing if you'd rather not do so. 5.11 is the best value available in the UK for airsoft I'd wager, though don't rule out outdoor brands as I got some nice Craghoppers in a grey that matches Arc'teryx wolf bang on for £20; no tactical features of course but they worked just fine for skirmishing.
I'd recommend these probably if you were going 5.11:
http://www.military1st.co.uk/74369-092-5.11-stryke-pants-storm.html
http://www.military1st.co.uk/72415-092-5.11-rapid-response-quarter-zip-shirt-storm.html
Best middle ground of the available options, would make for a good set to skirmish in. If you have any more questions gimme a shout, I've been looking in to grey kit and slowly building my collection of the best bits I can find from the limited selection out there over the past 2 years or so and I've done a lot of searching around in that time.
