Airsoft_Mr B got a reaction from Monty in Thoughts on my airsoft gun...
It should be okay but probably not the best for the money unfortunately. I have a CYMA M4 as well but heard they're bad.
Would've rather bought a G&G for around the same (think I paid £150 for mine and could've bought a Combat Machine CM16 + battery and charger for about the same price)
A new battery and charger is a good idea, as the ones which come with guns are never good quality. You will want at least a couple for a day as well in case one runs out.
In terms of face protection you can fit glasses underneath I'm afraid there's really no good options unless you're prepared to pay a lot for goggles / glasses and prescription lens inserts.
My dad uses Bolle PILOT / PILOPSI goggles which have cut outs inside so your frames fit, but on the other hand the downside is they're designed as safety goggles and look a bit sh*t.

Airsoft_Mr B got a reaction from Sitting Duck in NYLON combat Raiders vs metal
The polymer ones are fine, I reckon the internals will be practically the same.
As Tac said the metal receivers aren't great and generally pot metal (in fact will break much more easily -than the plastic ones- apparently)

avoid G&G BOT - no I ain't got one and probably won't
reason their fet's haven't got the best reputation and much better ones out there from £10 or build ya own for £5
(plus their new FireHawk HC05 was crap so I don't think much of G&G's R&D dept lately)
the GC16 30th offers the best value for must have metal peeps £150 airsoftworld.net
short raider/firehawk are short - well yeah but being short they are not likely to bust unless you start using them as hammer/crowbar etc...
other makes of plastic guns are very brittle but the abs or polymer or whatever it is used in the CM's stands up very very well
if you have £150 to spend then either GC16 30th if you must have metal
or
CM18 - abs/polymer/plastic but sexy darling of a gun - crap mid cap - leave that in box coz G&G mid caps are not great like some of their fitted mosfets
or £123 - short raider will do perfectly also
people always think metal is a must - but numerous guns are polymer eg: G36, UAR, ST, ARX - sure there are loads of modern looking guns out there
for cqb - short raider - 233 barrel, firehawk 110, cm18 or gc16 - 275 barrel
(think that is correct aprox but don't sue me if I'm a tad out)
though it don't matter that much but just saying shorter guns could be better suited for tight turns/corridors than a longer mofo
but cqb most crap is under 50ft for example

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to NickM in How do I start an airsoft team?
I did a days training at the sandpit with a guy who was introduced as "serving SAS". He certainly knew his stuff and he put us through our paces doing room clearance. It was a great experience and has paid off improving my own skills, but it would be far more useful if I had done it with a few of the guys from the team that like cqb. Simply so we were all working from the same play book.
There are a couple of us who have had a little bit of training as part of cadets years ago or are now in the TA, plus one ex services guy, so things like fire and manoeuvre, hand signals and proper coms procedures or moving in a formation are useful skills we use together without too much faffing to get organised. and for some of us after 3 years playing together we have a fair idea of what people will do in given situations.
Training or more likely practicing skills together is worth a go. But don't let it get in the way of having a good time.

Yeah everybody recommends them. I'd say best M4s for the price in the UK, and the 30th Anniversary edition is really nice looking and not as common or boring as the standard Combat Machine

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to DEDSEC in M4 DMR, where to start?
I personality think making any 5.56 "DMR" is wrong but that's just my opinion. If you want it to look the part you'd need to start with a base replicating a real steel gun chambered in 7.62 or higher. To me, throwing a scope and a bipod on an AR-15 isn't really a DMR, it's more of an...AR-15 with a scope and a bipod...
Hey-ho it's just a hobby though so do as you wish!

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to AK47frizzle in M4 DMR, where to start?
How to make any gun into a DMR:
Increase barrel length
Increase fps
Add lots of fancy furniture and unnecessarily high magnification scopes so that people might come to the conclusion that your gun, is not any old regular aeg fart; they'll know... You've upgraded to DMR... (~.~)

Increasing the barrel length is also only for the looks.

Almost all of the 1x32 acog red dots use LR936 cell batteries. Can be bought on ebay cheaply.

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to Mr Monkey Nuts in M4 DMR, where to start?
I am going to have to respectfully contradict almost everything Tacmaster has said. In the Airsoft world a DMR is entirely about the aesthetics of the gun, and it's real world emulation.
Other than breaking 350fps there is no internal upgrade you can do to a DMR that cannot also be done to any other v2 based gun such as a 10inch mk18.
A real world DMR is a semi auto rifle that has a minimum of an 18inch match grade barrel and a free floating rail.
An m4 with a scope isn't a DMR, an M4 with a scope is a very usable gun for Airsoft, but it's not strictly a DMR.
If you really do want to go down that route the US m4 derived DMR is the Mk12, google it and go from there.
The mk12 uses the NATO 5.56 round.
The SR25 uses a 7.62 round, and is not an M4 and the Russian SVD is also a DMR.
Having spent a lot of money and time building a mk12 impression I can honestly say it's more of a hindrance to have a DMR than it is to just have a good aeg with a scope.
It's heavy, it's long, it's temperamental, the loss of full auto for suppression isn't worth the extra few FPS and at the end of it all, it shoots just as accurately wether it has the 480mm barrel or a
250mm barrel.
Just my 2c

Yeah I'd agree with this. Some form of radio is really helpful, even if it's just for finding each other after respawn
I think you want to decide on what your goals are as a team.
There's loads of options ranging from a group of friends that play together, all the way through to groups that aim to have matching kit and may or may not emulate the look of a given military group. It isn't up to anyone but the people in your team to decide on what works best for you. Some groups like to have a fairly strict recruitment process whilst others are happy to accept people that are a good laugh, regardless of skill.

Airsoft_Mr B reacted to TacMaster in M4 DMR, where to start?
The only difference between an AEG and a DMR is the internal spec. It doesn't matter about how the gun looks at all.
If you're thinking about barrel length, it really doesn't make a difference unless you reduce it below the standard M4 barrel size- you can get DMR performance with anything over 363mm in length. Barrel diameter is a different story, a 6.01 or 6.02mm TBB is the best to use in a DMR setup.
Internals wise, here's what I've got in my M27:
Prometheus TBB w/R-Hop and Maple Leaf rubber
SHS Gears
SHS Hi-Torque motor
Lonex compression parts
Air-Lab Sorbo Pad to correct AOE
Prometheus M120 Spring
Nano Gate AB Mosfet
It's also been locked to semi via the selector plate. Currently kicking out at 415-420 FPS on 0.2gs.
This setup gives me really nice trigger response- not extremely important, but it feels and operates much nicer than a standard AEG- I can really feel the difference when I leave the safe zone with a normal AEG!

Well, there isn't any rituals for starting a team, just grab a few people, come with a name (optional), maybe some walkie talkies and done
