And Operation Flashpoint (the original Bohemia Interactive ones that is).

I don't think anyone involved with the case has said that the boy pointed the gun at the police. Even from the earliest reports it was that he was told to raise his hands and instead he pulled up his top and showed them the gun. The officer in question was apparently new to the job (no excuse really but it's relevant) and by the sounds of things panicked and rushed into a situation. Certainly by all accounts in the media so far the dispatcher had not told them that the 911 call said that the gun was probably a fake so he's only going to go by what he sees in the moment. I would suggest that yes, procedures have not been followed correctly (as mentioned earlier the squad car doesn't exactly approach at a safe distance and sensible speed) but again, I'm not sure I would have handled it any differently. I do not believe that all police should accept the risk of getting shot in the same way that I do not believe that all black kids are criminals. HOWEVER - the fact remains that the boy went out in public with a realistic imitation firearm and was seen waving it about IN PUBLIC causing sufficient concern that a member of the public call the police. In a state with a high incidence of gun crime and a growing problem with gang activity. This is not a clear cut "the blame is all X" for me. If the cop got shot he would just become another statistic of gun crime in America (regardless of his ethnicity). If the gun had turned out to be real - likewise. The fact of the matter though is that the gun wasn't real but the kid was spectacularly stupid in what he was doing. Equally while the perceived threat was high the police did react too quickly. It's very easy for us all to sit in judgement on the other side of an ocean sat at our keyboards but the fact remains that this kind of incident happens all too often in the US. That kids family has been devastated and the police officer will have to live the rest of his days with what he has done playing on his conscience. The part that REALLY mystifies me is how the US public and government will still refuse to see that they HAVE to address the issue of gun ownership and the culture of guns and gangs in everyday life or this will continue to happen all over the country.

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
Lozart replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
A few bits are on their way: AK scope mount rail thing Safariland DFA (Drop Flex Adaptor) from the good ol' US of MURICA and I've just sent a couple of mags off (one Stanag and one AK) for conversion to tracer by Incentive Designs. Should keep me going for a bit! -
As long as it has a standard dleta nut/receiver socket I don't see why not.

M4 Brand Info, Stats, What Do You Think?
Lozart replied to Prathios's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I was seriously considering one of those. Nice to see they do a 416 now too! -
So the video has been released to the press (or at least an edited version of it). I can fully understand why the police were called. The kid is wandering about in a public place waving a gun about and generally being kind of a dick. Obviously the family have told everyone what a little angel he is and I'm sure they believe that but to me he just looks like a bit of a wannabe gang member trying to look hard On the matter of race the familys attorney said: Again, given the situation I'm not sure I would have reacted any differently than the police officer that shot him. I certainly don't think this is a matter of "institutional racism". Relevant tale: a very good friend of mine is an officer in TSG 5, Met Police. The same TSG that got all the grief about the G8 riots a couple of years back. Anyway - their job is to do all the nasty bits that the rest of the Met don't like getting involved in (public order, crime swoops, drug busts, midnight door entrys that kind of thing). He got a load of grief from some local "people of colour" for "picking on all the black boys" and being racist and yes he was pretty much just arresting black people. Was he institutionally racist? No - he was working in Lewisham. As he said to the woman that was giving him grief "you find me a white guy doing something wrong and I'll nick him too". If you're working in a predominantly black area where crime is predominantly committed by young, black males - what else are you supposed to do but arrest young, black males?

I'm mostly Assault with DMR these days. All about the band aids!

I think he might like something a bit more up to date than those.... Of course if not then: Ghost Recon (the original one) Rainbow Six: Raven Shield Call of Duty (the first one - if only for the Volga River crossing).
-
I mentioned the video and this is the internet - it won't stop anything. If anything it will just lead to more arguments.
-
1) It's not been released 2) why do you want to see a video of a 12 year old getting shot?
-
That's the relevant part. It's about being registered on the database not issued with some special "UKARA" number. If you're buying from a local shop that is aware of the site then your membership card alone may well be sufficient defence for them. You could of course have said retailer put you on the database (assuming they're a UKARA registered retailer that is).
-
It's not just UKARA that takes no note of forces membership. I was witness to a serving (uniformed) member of the Royal Engineers having to fill out the Home Office form when buying pyro. Unfortunately rules is rules. Being in the army is no validation that you won't buy a RIF just to go and wave it about in a shopping centre!
-
Wouldn't membership of a target shooting club qualify as defence though?
-
Yeah.....that's not entirely true. Site membership is a valid defence in its own right. My UKARA number is also my site membership number too.

Lets all calm the fuck down shall we? http://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2014/nov/25/cleveland-police-video-officer-shooting-boy-clear There has been no mention of race in any report of this case. This implies that either the Police officer was also "of colour" (and let's face it, it's Cleveland - he was probably black) or that is NOT an issue in this case. Secondly, gun crime in Ohio is above the national average. Gun ownership in the US is - as we all know - widespread, so just because a child has a gun in a playground it doesn't automatically equate that it is more likely to be a toy. According to all reports thus far released, while the 911 call said that the gun was "probably a toy" this information was not passed to the officer who then faces a situation that anyone would have to take as worst case. Now, whether it was by panic or by design the boy went to pull the gun out of his waistband when he was told to put his hands up by an armed police officer. As a youth in the US he should have known the likely outcomes of this scenario but putting that aside (he's 12 after all) this was a spectacularly stupid thing to do. Who had taken the orange tip off the gun is irrelevant as the tip of the gun would not have been visible if it was tucked into his waistband. There is video of the encounter that apparently clearly shows what happened (although it hasn't been released to the press) and the officer was less than 10 feet away. If the officer on the scene couldn't tell from that distance if the gun was real or fake then it was clearly sufficiently real looking to convince the officer that it was a real gun. Put yourself in his shoes for a moment - you're in a state with higher than average gun crime faced with someone with what appears to be a real weapon. When asked to put their hands up, that person reaches for the gun. Are you really going to wait and see if he pulls out a real gun and starts shooting? It's a tragic situation that should have been avoided but it stands that if you take a realistic weapon out in public in the US, you need to take responsibility for your actions.
-
The 12 year old that got shot in Cleveland was black, yes. The situation in Ferguson is a more deeply rooted problem involving a community with a predominantly black poorer population and a predominantly white police force.
-
This contains so much stupid it should carry a health warning.
-
Obvious question but have you cleaned the barrel out?
-
I get what you're saying there Russell and yes your suggestion of a backpack or a drop leg is useful. We've all made the mistake of getting something because it looks OK and is cheap only to discover it was a useless waste of money but I don't think it's fair for people to jump in straight off (not saying you were I'm speaking generally now) and tell that person that their mags are wrong or they should have bought X/Y/Z type of vest etc. Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I wish more people would ask for the advice BEFORE they commit their funds (if nothing else I'm sure there's plenty of us with old kit to pass on). Also - some of the replies here would point to people just not reading the original post.
-
Sounds to me like people need to stop telling the guy that everything he's already bought is wrong and that he has to go spend money on slightly different versions of stuff he's already got. I see this time and again here and elsewhere. Someone says they already bought a vest and a primary with hi-caps so what does everyone say he needs next? A different load carrying system and mid caps. FFS.

If you want a pistol, go for it.
-
Tippmann have been around for donkeys tears so they should be able to make a decent HPA gun no problem. Of course the world of airsoft is a spectacularly cliquey one and plenty of people that want to go HPA won't buy it just because it ISN'T a P*. I'd have one.

I honestly think this thread needs a title change to "Boy killed for being a dick". I mean, come on, seriously he was waving a replica weapon about and when challenged by armed police he failed to comply and starting showing them the gun. What EXACTLY did he expect?

Technically - technically - it's illegal to take sand from a beach in the UK. You bad boy, you.
