  1. Quick question, because the next step is trying to cut a slot in the hand guard, to fix a RIS rail into it.... How do you take the front hand guard off? It looks like I just need to take the main locking pin out and then slide the barrel assembly off. And then push down on the handguard from the inside. But I don't want to push too hard in case I'm going to snap some clips (and I need as much stability there as possible) A quick pointer in the right direction would be much appreciated ?
  2. Is there a trick to unjamming the barrel? Obviously I've pushed the unjamming rod down the barrel, having dialed out all the hop. I can now see a BB wedged at the top of the feed tube but not sure how to get it out of there, as I suspect there's another BB in the barrel pressing against it. I don't want to push too hard anywhere in case I bugger the gun altogether, but taking it apart is a bit of a ball-ache due to the fake bolt handle gubbins. Could I split the BB with a sharpened screwdriver and a bit of a tap? (Hah, I've said all that but I do have to break open the gearbox in case there's a shim gone walkies. Call it 'for future reference'!)
  3. Cheers ?. There's not much to see as a 'build' yet, once I get the spray paint on it, and start hacking the front end to get a RIS rail and stubby grip on it, then it will be a build I've got astigmatism too, but it's working fine for me with my toric contact lenses. Lucky I guess! One thing I've noticed with this red dot is it is very small and low profile. So too low when I'm wearing my OneTigris mouth/ear protection. So I'm going to buy a riser rail for it. Well taking of airsoft scopes, I didn't get on that well with my old 4x32 scope on my M906, but I'm very tempted with this at £20... https://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/products/3-9x40-ir-zoom-scope/ Looks a bit of a bargain, but I'm spending some money on other things first... Expect another post in this thread soon ? Yes definitely interested in that! That looks superb for the price, I was willing to risk the sight rather than fit the usual type of lens protector in front of it.
  4. The aching void in my darkened soul can only be filled with..... STEEEENKING BADGESSSSSSSS You know it!
  5. This airsoft lark is worse than having a crack habit isn't it? My F2000 Battlefield 4 build slowly takes shape... got one of the "Amazon specials" red dot sights as it's the spitting image of the games' Coyote sight View down the sight (difficult to get the focus right, but the reticle is sharp in reality) All in all, it's pretty damned nice for £23, next day (Prime) delivery. The actual design means it won't survive being bashed on a tree, it's got nothing on my Kobra, but the build quality is decent. Next step is to try to build / bodge a RIS rail into the handguard so I can put a stubby grip on it...
  6. You're only saying that because you're on 13/14
  7. I bet you really enjoyed that some of my pistol shooting moments have been the most memorable
  8. Cheers guys The thing is I know the Gold Fire stuff is old and cheap (came from my loft, so more than a decade old) and the Bulldog stuff is crapola, but I have already gone through a lot of rounds of each with no problems I can remember. Most of it will have gone through the DE M906 though, which might be a bit more forgiving (I don't think its tight-bore barrel). I might just be unlucky now that it's happened a couple of times in quick succession, on different guns, so it's probably impossible to infer anything from that, but I thought I'd ask, just in case there's anything else.
  9. Yup, I've done exactly the same thing, with a slight twist as I'm the FNG who has been turning up as a solo Billy No-Mates, as my usual airsoft companion has been kept away by work. I don't want to feel left out, so got a name tag just to 'grease the wheels' socially. I wish everyone did it because I am absolutely frickin' terrible with remembering names!
  10. I had this happen on my F2000 when I was using a very old and perhaps rather tired Classic Army STANAG high cap, and yesterday it happened with my TM AK47 with its original (and thus also rather old) high cap mag... happily firing away on semi, but switching to full auto I've ended up with a 2 or more BBs jammed in the barrel. Easy to clear the F2000 thanks to its construction, but an utter pain on the AK as the BBs haven't popped out when using the unjamming rod - so I'll be disassembling the gun just to get rid of a few BBs. Arrghhh. Now it could be I'm just being unlucky with some of the cheapo BBs I'm using up. Gold Fire and Bulldog 0.20g at the moment. The TM has a tight bore barrel, and when I first used it a gazillion years ago it clogged up a couple of times until I switched from the cheap stuff back to TM BB's. And it could also be that I'm just having a quick test fire, so there aren't many BBs in the mags, and I'm not winding them up fully, so I might be encouraging a mis-feed once I'm in to a longer burst, and there's not enough to shove the BBs up into the hop unit properly. Or it could be that I've taken both apart, and I've upset something. Obviously I can just stick to newer (and hopefully better) ammo, load more in the mags and wind them up more (oh, and ditch the old CA mag as it's definitely looking its age), but is there anything else I should look out for? What could I have upset in the guns? If the AK motor isn't running freely could that cause it?
  11. (Replying to @Skara in the "What have you just bought" thread...) Cheers, I may well be able to drag the FPS under the site limit just by winding out the last of the adjustable spring guide doohickey, I've not undone 'freely' because I didn't want to wind the screw all the way out and have it rattling around... but when I crack open the gearbox to re-lube the gears and piston, I might find there's plenty of adjustment left. If that's not the case, then presumably the 420mm barrel + un-ported cylinder counts as "plenty of volume"?
  12. Excellent - Let's continue this in my F2000 tinkering thread...
  13. Ah, that's a thing I've not seen suggested before - is that to reduce power slightly, or for something else?
  14. Yeah I was looking at a Sky RC double channel charger to replace it https://www.modelsport.co.uk/product/444856 Not that I've had any problems with it, after that initial weirdness tbh
  15. It sounds ok to me, no screeching or grinding. But all my guns sound different and I don't really know what to listen for, beyond 'unpleasant' Ah, that's something I'm not experienced enough to notice. I was very careful when taking this apart to ensure the main spring stayed in place so it didn't upset the gears, and bugger with the shimming... but the bearings all fell out of the top half of the shell. The shims had each stuck to their bearings, and as I'd cracked the shell open as gently as possible I tracked each bearing as it came out of place... I checked in between the gears to ensure nothing had fallen. So as far as I can tell nothing is in a different position or lost. The site tech (who'd previously put it together) had checked the shimming and pronounced he was happy with it. But this is making me think I need to open it up again and double-check the shimming, and be certain there's not a loose shim in there somewhere.
  16. Cells are reading 8.22 total, 4.11 in each cell. The gun sounds fine to me, with a healthy fire rate... Yes it has been 'tinkered with', I just swapped out the nozzle. And previously it had an upgraded spring, guide and gear set fitted. It's shooting at 340fps with no hop, 0.20g BBs
  17. Nope, I even took the chunky fuse holder out of the equation too. A mosfet seems like a likely addition now, I could run a small 11.1v in it, to make it a handy little beast. I had a problem with the DE the first time round, yes. It wouldn't charge and was showing weird stuff on the battery tester. Since the first successful charge it's been fine though. Do you think I've just got a duff one?
  18. Yeah, there's a thread over in Electric Guns where I've been tracking my progress working on it... And thanks to the input of @Adolf Hamster, @Asomodai and @ak2m4 I've actually got it up-and-running. I've not actually used the new piston and piston head, I got a better air seal with the old piston! It's now running a teeny-tiny bit too hot at ~355fps so when I take it apart again to do a lube job with some proper grease, I'll maybe swap over (it's definitely better made, so worth using), see how it goes
  19. This should be an easy question for someone to answer, I'm just a little bit surprised I'm needing to ask it: My TM AK47S is refusing to fire when connected to my Titan 7.4v 3000mAH Li-Ion battery (fully charged) But it will fire on an older Fconegy 8.4v 1700mAH NimH And on a Turnigy 11.1v 1200mAH Nano Cell Li-Po So is it just the lack of volts that's the problem? I've been using the Titan in all the other guns without an issue. (All wired with Deans connectors)
  20. I'm not getting back on a site until the middle of the month, so my recent airsoft days have been "learning how to (bedroom) tech". I've been spending quite a lot of the holiday at it, and to be honest it's been time consuming and frustrating in parts, but ultimately very rewarding when it's all come together. I've now meddled (apparently successfully) with all 4 of my guns... 1) Double Eagle M906C - quick changed the spring, new bucking and nub. Super easy jobs! Not even teching, really 2) Classic Army M15A3 - shooting off to the right, spent a while shimming the outer barrel to get it straight. Fixed full auto feed. 3) Cybergun F2000 (Cyma) - shooting at 270fps out of the box with a rather slow trigger response, so replaced the spring, cylinder and motor 4) TM AK47S - Replaced cracked nozzle Given the last time I tried to change springs on the AK I ended up giving the gun to a tech to put together, the fact I've got all this done on my own feels great Only thing that's a tiny bit of a pisser is today I found out one of my two Turnigy Nano Cell 11.1v 1200mAH batteries has completely died.
  21. Everyday's a school day! Thanks I've learned something ☺️
  22. I thought the whole point of the degrees rating was they're the optimal operating temperature, is that not right?
  23. Good luck with your build, will be chomping my popcorn on the side-lines, watching with great interest! As my CA M15A3 shoots best on semi-auto and has a stupidly long barrel, I might go the DMR route too, though it won't be easy as the DE with the lovely quick change spring system. I've fancied the idea of one of the magnifiers too... but from what I've read you have to be careful to find one that has a decent hinge so it stays up / down as required. So I thought a low power zoom scope might be a safer bet.
  24. If anything the whole thing is under lubed at the moment. I'll do a bit of test shooting with it then I'll take it apart again to apply some better grease. I could swap the piston over (I'm using the old one as I didn't have to worry about engagement) to see how that affects muzzle velocity as I've obviously got some excess to spare (rather than swapping the spring) Edit: I've wound out the 'quick fps adjuster' screw in the spring guide and I'm getting down to 345-355fps with some hop applied, so maybe the spring is alright as-is, but I've ordered two lots of silicon grease (one for the gears, one for the piston) from good ol' AK2M4 so I'll still be opening it up again anyway. I'm no longer filled with fear by the internals of an airsoft gun. This must be a good thing (Or a bad thing for my bank balance, as I'll be prepared to change more stuff!) It's firing at a healthy 14.3 rps with the Titan 7.4v Li-Ion. I've definitely got a double-feed issue on full auto with my old Classic Army STANAG mag, which is the one I've been filling with the 0.20g BBs for all my chrono testing. I've twice (in the space of a couple of hundred shots) had the barrel end up with several BBs inside. That's a sub-optimal scenario right there. I've only fired a few bursts through the gun with the supplied hi cap and one of my other STANAGs, they seemed ok so it might just be finicky with the mags, but I'm really going to need to 'let loose' to see how much of an issue there is. Edit2: Pinged a good few rounds on full auto with the provided hi cap mag, no problems with that one at least!
  25. IT'S ALIVE (Thanks feck for that!) Now my problem is that it's running a little on the spicy side! 360-370fps with 0.20g. The hop unit doesn't appear to impinge much on the barrel, even when fully on, so hop adjustment might not be enough to tame the beast I have created. I may have to get an M95 and fit that. But the motor seems to be running smoothly, and snappily, even on the half-charged NimH 1600mAH 8.4v I've been testing with. When I slap on a Mosfet and plug in the 11.1v Li-Po it should be awesome I have had one jam in the barrel, hopefully that's just down to the crappy 0.20g BB's I'm using
