  1. I'm starting a new thread as I've been trampling over other people's too often recently, and as I've got my own chrono and a desire to do the simple things on my own, I thought I'd record stuff here, and ask for related advice. Background: New Double Eagle M906C delivered start of November. Didn't open it up to clean it out, just straight off to three skirmishes where it's performed very well in-game but with two caveats: 1) Low rate of fire on 7.4v. Especially so after a cold day on the field. In warm conditions it's shooting 11.6 rps on 7.4v, 16.4 rps on 11.1v. That'll do me. 2) Low muzzle velocity. Very variable figures seen, anything from a low of 230fps on a very cold site, to 300fps in my house, but also down at 270fps in the same conditions. The odd thing about the muzzle velocity differences are they stay consistent each time, so each day / test the readings are all very similar, within +-5fps Intended actions: 1) Crack open the receiver, check the gun looks ok internally 2) Spray some lube into the nozzle (leave for a while, then shoot it out before re-assembly) 3) Change stock hop rubber to 50C (Light green) Maple Leaf Macaron 4) Change stock hop nub to Omega 5) Change spring to M100 or M105 'Before' testing: With gun at room temperature, chrono'd at 270-280fps. Accuracy test with cheapo BB Kings 0.25g Bio BB's, 15m measured, fired from room @ 19-20C, 2C ambient temp outside, light wind, bench rest, Kobra red dot, approx 30 shots Results: 1) I've cracked open the gun... The front receiver pin was stiff and it took some hammering, but very easy to slide off the top receiver after that (once I'd worked out the dust cover needs to be closed, or it'll get blocked by it). No damage to the nozzle. Barrel was quite clean, but not perfect, so ran some cotton swabs through it. There's evidence of light greasing on the piston - everything looks good (neither under or over lubed) to my untutored eye 2) Sprayed the Ultrair silicon lube into the nozzle and left it while I did everything else. Then blasted out the excess with a few shots before reassembly. 3) Replaced the hop rubber. The old one seemed fine, lubed on the outside but clean-ish on the inside. It definitely worked ok as I've managed to over-hop 0.30g BBs a few weeks ago. 4) Attempted to replace the nub. The Omega is simply too large to fit into the hop arm... Have I bought the wrong one somehow??? @ak2m4 perhaps you could tell me? 5) Replaced the spring. This was really easy thanks to the quick-change system. (I wish my TM AK had the same, breaking the gearbox open was a real pain and left me with a bill for someone else to put it back together!) The stock tube bolt needs a long-shafted no4 Hex bit to undo. The spring end plate thing needs as wide a flat-head screwdriver as you can find (to make it super-easy). The spring guide is nicely engineered. The interesting thing is I've tried two springs in there: Action Army M100 - much shorter than the stock spring, gave 320fps with 0.25g BB's (no hop) ASG M105 - either longer than the stock spring, or about the same length... it's still in the gun so can't compare now... 320fps Which just goes to show you can't trust the manufacturer's ratings, gotta try the springs yourself. And the acid test, 0.20g BBs with a bit of hop applied ... 345-350fps. Yaaaasssssssss! So, I'm really rather happy. I've successfully 'done things' without apparently buggering-up my gun, mostly thanks to the nice way it's been designed and built by DE. And the muzzle velocity is up to the site limit, and still seems to be consistent. Though obviously it's changed from day-to-day before, so I'll have to keep my eye on that! I'll re-test the accuracy tomorrow, but obviously I'd rather do it with the Omega nub in place. Still, it'll be interesting to see what difference the other changes have made first. I'll also chill the gun outside, see if that affects the fps.
  2. Santa (UPS) arrived early this year... But I'm not going to open the box until Christmas morning. Oh, the anticip...... .... ation Also... 18,000 Bio 0.28g BBs, an M105 spring, and a nozzle and fuses for my AK.
  3. It seems to be your slightly lucky day in that JD Airsoft have an Advent Calendar special on Specna's: https://jdairsoft.net/deals/day-12 The H22 isn't there but the H09 is on offer... Pretty hard to resist at that price, I'd imagine. Though you'll have no space for nunchuck batteries in that particular stock. Could get a after-market crane stock to replace it, they're from £15-£50, or even less used.
  4. Oh damnit, more weirdness. I'm doing that 'before' accuracy test, and even though it's at room temp again, I'm only getting 270-275fps! I ended up shooting at 15m and I've got a total group size of 5" x 3.5" from around 30 shots, including 4 flyers, from a bench rest. Most of the shots actually landed in a 3.5" x 2.5" area, on a slight diagonal slant from top-left to bottom-right, suggesting I was pulling the shots a little. Cheapo Bio BBs bought at the site ... 'BB Kings' so they might not be doing the gun any favours. That's all I've got at the moment. And I didn't have a very visible aiming mark, so some of that will be me as well. I'll probably have another crack at it.
  5. So far, and to the best of my recollection: Chrono'd when at room temp 21C = 290-310fps Chrono'd on Sunday at 4C = 230fps Chrono'd previous games at 6-10C = 270fps It does seem very temperature dependent, but I'm not totally ruling out some other "Factor X", like bad lube, a damaged hop rubber, or gunk in the barrel etc. I'm holding off my disassembly until tomorrow when I'm first going to do some 'before' tests of fps / rps / accuracy at ~20m. Then I'll swallow a couple of brave pills / drink half a bottle of vodka and change the spring (for M100 or M105) / hop rubber / nub, and spray some silicone into cylinder (and blast it out), clean the barrel. To be honest, looking at the video linked below, it's not too tricky as long as I don't crack the gearbox open to check the lube inside... Pheas airsoft M904 disassembly video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ijqsUFI5Wt4&t=739s&ab_channel=PheasAirsoft Then I'll re-test. If I've got the time and patience, and it's cold enough, I'll leave the gun outside to get it chilly to see what the difference is on my chrono, both before and after doing the upgrade. PS @SovietSloth Sorry about slightly derailing your thread - it happens every time The on-topic takeaway should be that the DE guns are good, but not perfect, some are doing better than others but I'm certainly still very happy I bought mine. Hopefully there'll be some useful extra info come out of this CSI-style forensic testing!
  6. Note - there's at least a couple of us M90x owners not getting 340+ fps - we're down at ~300fps, dropping to low 200's in the cold. Maybe we've been unlucky, maybe the guns just need a clean out, and as I'm about to embark with some serious fiddling, perhaps I'll find an answer. (I'm no tech so chances are equally high that my gun will end up in little plastic bags ready for someone else to put back together)
  7. You had me at 'thong' That's a lot of webbing. You've got a fetish haven't you When you say "an old sales post", you sold these? But now you don't? Bah humbug, my timing sucks The tri-rail is a cool thing. As I want to add a ris rail to the front to mount a stubby grip, I've either got to get one of those (expensive, hard to find), get someone to 3D print one for me from a thingiverse model (I don't know anyone with a printer) or try to mount it into / onto the existing handguard. If it's the latter - do you think it's feasible? Is the supplied plastic handguard solid enough to cut into and support a rail, something like this? (I'm not worried about the side rails, just one short section at the front would be enough) Looking again at the ebay listing, it says 1.25" / 32mm 😛 Still, it's a fiver, I've ordered one anyway. I guess the slot could be gently filed an extra 0.5mm on each side if need be, without weakening the whole thing(?)
  8. I can't tell you specifically about the Specna, but they have a good rep too. There's a good video for the DE FCS, you should be able to find it easily in YT. I'm not sure how the Aster compares. I had a long discussion about the pros and cons of running 11.1v on a UK spec gun (i.e relatively low spring compression, increasing rate of fire and potentially increasing the possibility of breaking the thing) Well to cut a long story short my expensive Titan 7.4v Li-Ion is now my backup battery and I'm running a couple of small 11.1v Li-Pos through the day... so yeah 11.1 works. Other people have reported no issues longer term Comparison video... (Apologies for the big crappy watermark, it's my first go with video editing so haven't 'invested' in it yet) I've just got a chrono yesterday, so I'll add the actual rates of fire into the description today. Yesterday I got 12rps with the 7.4v and 15 (iirc) off the 11.1v, but that battery was nearly out of juice, hence a re-test today. edit: Chrono on the fully charged Turnigy 11.1v is 16.4 rounds per sec which I'm more than happy with. In fact I chew through ammo noticeably faster (I tend to do the suppressive fire thang a lot when I'm not sneaking) so the 7.4v is still perfectly viable. (Added the rates of fire to the video now) The Negative Airsoft chap says one of the good things about Specna is they are not set to run too fast on 11.1, so not overstressing components. I suspect the DE is similar.
  9. So I could just run one of these cheap things around the stock and through the slots, attach the single point to the d-ring and I'm golden...? Cool. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Tactical-Universal-D-Ring-Sling-point-Adapter-rifle-buttstock-Loop-Strap-Airsoft-/353409589012?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&_trksid=p2349624.m46890.l49286&mkrid=710-127635-2958-0 Is the 1.25" width of that strap the standard size that will fit through the slots ok?
  10. I've got a 50deg macaron to put in mine, that might be all it needs... But as I remember back to the previous game (which I think was even colder, very close to zero) when I came home with a low rate of fire too, then that opens up all the possibilities really doesn't it. Edit: I've updated the video to include the rates of fire for the M906... the old video is de-listed so might not work anymore.
  11. Oh blimey. So I've just ordered a Cybergun F2000, with my fingers firmly crossed that it won't be a lemon and an awful purchase... I've noticed it's quite a heavy gun at over 3kg, and now I see it doesn't have any sling points as standard! As I've got an 800m walk to and from our safe zone to the battle area, and I'm typically lugging two guns and a rucksack, a sling is pretty useful... Actually the single point sling I run on my m4 is one of my best purchases as it's kept me from getting aching arms through the day So you guys who have had these before; any recommendations for sourcing one of the special slings / straps? Or on how to make one?
  12. Double Eagle used to make rubbish springers that could be had for pocket money prices, that's where their bad reputation comes from. Their current guns' reputation is good 👍 The technology is also excellent, the fire control system with binary fire and burst mode are so easy to program. They're not perfect... mine doesn't seem to like the cold at all, so after 4 skirmishes I'm preparing to do some work on it with a new spring, hop rubber and nub, and a bit of general cleaning and lubing. But I don't think anyone has had theirs actually break on them, which is pretty damned good for our little toy gnus 😁
  13. Abso-bloody-lutely! Lots of us DE M900 owners here, and I think we're united in being happy with our purchases. The major problem has been getting hold of them, but I did notice BBguns4less of all places has now got a bunch of guns in stock. While all the 900 series guns have different rails and receivers, the internals are the same, so all the upgrade advice is the same Review thread... More recent thread... my accessories thread https://airsoft-forums.uk/topic/52888-essential-and-not-so-essential-bits-to-bling-my-new-de-m906c-to-the-max-well-a-little-bit/ There are more out there I think
  14. It's a done-deal already @BigStew, I went with the Cybergun at near half that price. As it's built by Cyma now, it'll hopefully go for a while before I need to start getting some bits for it.
  15. Yesterday's game was 'interesting' in a few ways. My M906C chrono'd at 230fps in the morning. Once I'd recovered from the shock (I wasn't expecting much more, say 270fps, but still!) I decided to roll with the gun anyway, as my belt is all set for M4 mags and I didn't have 100% faith in my AK. So I ended up on a team with Santa and his Elf, which was amusing but not very tactical Usual collection of good games in the morning, with a nice pic of me in the battle haze... A a great Xmas stew for lunch, a raffle with some decent prizes (no luck on those unfortunately, a P90 with an M4 adapter would've been fun to win) For the afternoon I decided to roll with the AK but damn it, it let me down. It looked damnably cool while it was working But later in this 'rolling defence' game against the marshals firstly the hop needed tweaking - I asked for help and a teammate got pinged as he was doing it. Poor bugger was our first casualty, and out for the rest of the game. Then I couldn't get the top cover back on (I'm still cursing it now, damn thing won't go on easily even at home)... I ended up surrounded by the enemy , knowing that as soon as I showed myself I'd get lit up by multiple HPAs at very short range :[ I popped my head out of cover, holding the top cover and battery sort-of in place with my left hand, aimed at the nearest enemy, pulled the trigger - nothing! I think the fuse had gone with all the fecking-about. (Luckily someone from distance saw me first and I got pinged not too painfully) Back to the M906 which had held up pretty well through the day, considering the low fps - there's a lot to be said for sneaking or rushing up close before opening fire - outright performance isn't an issue when you're engaging at 10-30m rather than trying to out-duke an HPA or sniper at 40m+ range. Anyway, a good day, roll on the next game, whenever that might be! (that's my grinning fizzog next to the left of the Russian flag)
  16. Well I haven't given much chance for anyone else to chip in, because I realised it's getting late and if I order it now there's a tiny chance it'll arrive tomorrow. So ... sod it. I went with the black. After all, no-one ever got fired for buying a black gun (to borrow heavily from the 'no-one ever got fired for buying IBM' saying that got bandied around in IT circles 30+ years ago) And yeah, as you suggested Adolf, it'll be easier to match paint across the whole gun when it all starts off the same colour
  17. Simple really, I'm buying one but which is the better colour choice??? I do intend to paint it ... eventually... and although the base colour would probably be closer to the tan colour, to get the full Battlefield4 "Havoc" paint-job I'd have to get the black plastic foregrip to match the rest of the gun, so it'd almost certainly all need painting. (Note: I think the off-white base colour is a little bold for me, so I'd probably go with some sort of khaki or tan, and also the red might go a little browner) But until the paint job gets done the black option feels like the obvious, easy, safe choice. I'm not sure if the tan will make the plastic seams etc too obvious, and whether in the normal lighting it'll to be too light. But I'm being not obvious and not safe with this gun, so should I go for the tan option anyway? Whaddya reckon? I reserve the right to ignore the majority advice
  18. Got me one of these from that there AliExpress... a £21 chronograph so I can check whether my 'upgrades' make things better or worse ... my God it's small! (it's about 1" in height) The tube that you shoot down is very narrow, hence those brass tubes which are used to position the chrono on the end of the barrel (here it's set up for my 35mm diameter silencer) It seems to work ok, but the normal-sized ones have the big advantage of not needing to faff around with those mounting tubes (or risking damaging the inside of the chrono if it's wrongly positioned)
  19. My Chinese cheap-as-chips chrono has arrived! Interesting results so far, given that when I chrono'd my M906C at the site, in the bitter cold, it showed 230fps! My AK was at 270fps which is what I'd been told it ran at by the site tech after he'd meddled with it, so I have to trust that chrono. Now nice and warm it's showing at 295-310fps depending on a bit of fiddling with the hop It actually got the highest fps as set for 0.28's at the site, but as I've only got 20m range at home, I don't really know how it's hopping now. The rate of fire showed at 12rps with the fully charged 7.4v Titan, and 15rps with the 11.1v Li-Po. However, that's not fully charged (again). I'll repeat the experiment once that's done. The horribly low fps tells me the stock hop rubber or perhaps the lube (or lack of), or the seals ... maybe even the tolerances within the gun do not like cold temperatures. At all. Now I've got the chrono and I'm on holiday til the New Year, I'm going to test the accuracy as it is now, videoing as I go. I'll then upgrade the gun with the M100 spring, Macaron 50deg rubber and Omega nub, and see where it's after that. I'll even try leaving it out in the cold for an hour or two to see if that changes things.
  20. It's definitely not g&g as this one uses a v3 gearbox and is standard parts whereas the g&g build has proprietary parts. Well that's how I understand it anyway. Negative Airsoft did a service on one and he started he preferred it to the g&g version. Annoyingly I can't find the particular video or I'd link it here. Not sure whether it's actually made by Cyma or JG. It's £175/£180 everywhere. I know that's probably a bit steep, but sod it, I can either have it now or not at all, so have to make a rapid decision. I'll buy it from JD Airsoft as I'll take up their bargain bio bb offer at the same time, making the £10 p&p that bit easier to swallow. Edit: JD Airsoft did a good job with a quick reply to my battery query, they think a 1450mAH stick will fit in there, which I guess refers to this https://jdairsoft.net/np-11-1v-1450mah-single-lipo-battery-deans9 A bit surprised if they're suggesting an 11.1v but there you go. Anyway I ought to be ok with my Titan 7.4v. Result! Edit2: Haha, I should have read the JD airsoft description! The F2000 rifle is without a doubt one of the most difficult to get hold of airsoft guns on the market, to the point that this model, previously manufactured by G&G, is long discontinued. So now we have a completely different model, manufactured by CYMA and about £150 cheaper than G&G's version. An ABS composite injection moulded exterior bristling with aluminium, alloy and steel parts. Efficient on the field and for CQB. This is the new version of the FN2000 built by CYMA for Cybergun and features the new V.3 metal gearbox, metal spring guide and high torque motor. Comes with high capacity magazine 470 rounds & manual. No battery or charger included.
  21. Apologies for resurrecting an old thread, but as I've got the go ahead to spend some money on myself for a Chrimbo present, I'm actively looking at the Cybergun F2000 for an immediate purchase. Until I saw the size of the battery compartment again anyway. That stopped me in my tracks Am I going to have but to buy a special battery for this gun? It looks like only small PEQ box or short nunchuck style will fit? Any specific recommendations? Without a MOSFET I'm going to have to be careful with a Li-Po, unless I can slip my battery monitor in there too...?
  22. I've just come back from a game where there were a few HPA gunners. I think they were all running mid cap mags so no real problem with the total amount of BB's flying around but it's noticeable there's some (good natured) chuntering in the ranks if/when they all end up on one team because it instantly throws out any balance. And judging by the line of bee stings running up my thigh from a burst I took at 10+ metres, I don't think the regulators are left untouched after the chrono in the morning. That did piss me off
  23. That looks excellent, where did you get it from? 3x mag with a red dot and wide field of view seems a better bet than the 4x32 scope I've tried and didn't really get on with
  24. If I win the lottery tonight, I'll offer him a grand. I want that gun. One day. If I win the lottery tonight I'll build a time machine. £150 for cash?
