The 'How Did Your Airsoft Day Go? Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Skara's topic in General Discussion
My first visit to RIFT The Ridge (nr Toddington) It rained last night. It's still the winter. The site is also used by 4x4 off roading vehicles. The primary soil in the area is clay. These are key things to bear in mind... It was a gigantic mud pit of a place, and although some fun was to be had, I left early because I was just too tired and couldn't face the overly long and frankly dangerous treks back to and from spawn. The area is very hilly and crisscrossed with the tracks the cars and trucks take... Leading to very long slippery roads, with sumps of deep muddy water. I spent more time worrying about sliding into waist deep puddles or talking face-first dives into deep mud than caring about incoming fire. The marshals and staff were all very friendly, everything seemed to run smoothly (though I'm sure the Sermon On The Mount took less time than the briefing, semi-ironically made from a mound, and one of the few dry spots in the site), but the logistics of the place and all that mud just didn't let it work properly. Might be magic in the summer, but right now it's a 'no' from me, Clive Edit: (The muddy path in the background gives but a taste of the problem. Often a route would be blocked by a criss-cross of super-slippery paths with giant puddles at the intersection - and the paths were often at a steep angle. So although there was plenty of drier grass, getting to it meant taking your life (and gear) in your hands and hoping you'd not end up lying in the muck and water. Often the grassy areas were full of fierce brambles too) -

I was lucky and got this at a reasonable price. It's good enough I've been happy to invest in a couple of high caps so I can skirmish it, it'll go with me tomorrow, (though I've also for my TM AK47S, my first airsoft gun I bought up, is up-and-running, so that will probably get used in preference) I have test fired it today, though not with the lower power batteries yet (to see if the single shot thing would stop happening)... It really is damned good fun to shoot 😃 -

First Time Teching, Observations Etc.
RostokMcSpoons replied to Ebeneezer Goode's topic in Electric Guns
I think I spent about 3 or 4 hours just trying to get the trigger spring back in place when I first took a V3 apart. I also had a problem with the trigger shuttle container jumping out of place whenever I closed the shell. I didn't have a quick change spring so having to deal with a lot of stored energy in the system encourages the possibility of a 'RUD' So maybe Ebeneezer , your comparatively easy time is down to the particular components. Essentially you're quite correct, there's little in the big picture that's really all that complicated... The devil is very much in the details. -

I've been very lucky for a few years now, unfortunately it looks like my luck is about to run out. 36 years employed without a single jobless week... April 1st seems the appropriate day for that to come to an end 🥴. There is still a small chance it'll be ok, but other people around me have had their contacts renewed, but only for short terms with very short notice periods, and I've heard zilch. No news is bad news in this scenario. And nothing out there to go to at the moment, because I work in a niche market.

Looks good, I look forward to hearing how it does. Unfortunately I think I'm about to get some bad news at work, might be jobless in a couple of weeks time when my contract finishes. So I'm more likely to be selling my gun than buying expensive bits for it 😥

It comes with a set of short poles that you screw into the plate, these fit around the suppressor / flash hider / end of the barrelso so that the BBs fly down the middle of the tunnel. The number relate to the diameter the pins fit around, so it's a bit of a pain in the arse to change them around. Best approach is to set it for a suppressor or flash hider you can easily swap between guns, and leave the pins on the chrono alone. Unfortunately I found that a) even that takes too long for an impatient person and b) suppressors don't fit all guns So if you're a lazy git like me, you just hold it up to the end of the barrel and try your best not to shoot the shit out of the inside of your new chrono I've done that a lot now, and I'm considering an upgrade to something with a wider hole that I can shoot into... -

That explanation does sound very logical - I really don't want to crack open the gearbox, but I'll bear the useful advice in mind if I do. I've got two small stick 11.1v batteries, not sure which one I was using on that day... one is 30C, the other '15-25C' ... I'll try the slower rated one, and perhaps go find a cheap 7.4v to try out. (Unfortunately all my other working batteries are a 7.4v 30C and a Titan 11.1v which is also likely to be high C) Re: your mate's gun: Wow, maybe he got a Friday afternoon special? That's so surprising considering how great the externals are (and it wasn't a cheap gun when new) I bought a couple of new high caps and they are a super tight fit at the moment (need a good bump on the base to get them correctly seated to engage the catch), but given the plastic construction I expect them to wear in just fine. -
I've had bad knees (arthritis) and ankles (easily injured) for many years. But I've lost just a few kilos since Xmas and honestly it's been like night and day the difference it has made. I can run up and down the stairs again. Quite happy to talk about it more offline but basically I've just done the 5:2 diet, with a 7 day attitude of cutting down on carbs, and not being very strict in the 2 days fasting after the first couple of weeks. I quickly lost 3kg, and more slowly lost another 2, and now I'm really just maintaining it, but my fitness has improved and basically all the day to day joint pain has gone.

Another trip to Special Ops at Olney / Milton Keynes. It seems the previous day's rain had scared off a bunch of punters, as the site was surprisingly quiet when I rocked up at 8:15. And so it turned out - about 40 players for a sunny winter's day skirmishing. Plenty of room to spread my kit around then. I took Double Eagle M906C (I may have to write some wedding vows for this thing), 4xHigh cap Lonex flash mags Cyma M14, 4xHigh cap G&G G(EC)36, 2xHigh cap, 2xMed cap Rossi M40 bolt-action sniper rifle, 4xmags Kit bag was a day sack I bought from Action Hobbies boneyard. Plenty of room inside, which meant I packed it full and it weighed a ton. I intended to run the M14 for the morning, but the long range testing revealed a tendency for the BBs to curve right. A knackered or misaligned hop rubber? I'll have to fettle it. The G36... I forgot to bring one of the smaller batteries that would actually fit inside the handguard. D'oh! So I tried the sniper for the first game. Got a couple of decent kills, but the number of times I knocked the floppy safety lever to safe when reloading... and then couldn't fire a shot when the moment came... ARRRRRGHHH Once I find a way of fixing that, I think I will enjoy occasional sniping sessions, but I soon ditched it for Old Faithful The DE M906C ran like a trooper as always. It seems my hop rubber replacement hasn't spoiled it's effectiveness to get hits at range. The only bad thing was I shooting so much ammo I feared even my 3000mAH battery wouldn't last the day, so I set it charging at lunchtime and then realised I'd forgotten it when I'd made some 600m of the trek from safe zone to the game area. Cue a stumbling jog-walk backwards and forwards to go fetch it. Damn it, I absolutely love this gun. I am questioning whether I need all my others, beyond the fact I have a gun fetish and love messing around with them. Maybe there'll be a big sale in my near future, and I'll just have the 906, and maybe get a couple more variants, and some nicer webbing and gear (.... my magazine pouches decided to disassemble themselves mid-game, MOLLE mount screws losing their nuts. Amazingly I find a bag of spares by accident in my kit box, and fixed 'em) The games were mostly 'plant flags to clear mines, then find objects scattered in an area' and 'drop tickets in ammo boxes to capture zones', and everything worked very well... as long as you were on the blue (my) team. The poor old yellow team got owned through the day, it was very one-sided. There was a stage when the guns went silent as the yellows couldn't / wouldn't leave their spawn... the marshals pushed us back a bit to give them some room. (It didn't really help) I really enjoyed it anyway. Hit-taking was actually very good and everyone seemed happy enough. Hot dogs and burgers for lunch, and the rain only turned up as everyone was leaving. Looking forward to RIFT next weekend -

I'll let an expert comment tbh, I should've kept my fingers off the keyboard. I should have said 'believe' rather than 'know' Don't do anything until someone else tells you to. All I can say is, all the piston heads I have dealt with have been the same, with the loose o-ring -

I don't know much but I know the o-ring is designed to be loose fitting 😬 -

I forgot to update this with my findings from the last skirmish... It ran great on an 11.1v battery. It didn't double shot on semi, but it did do an occasional weird "60% power" shot, which meant I had a few shots drop short. One even got me a teamkill where I was aiming over a teammate's s head and the BB just curved straight down on him! The full auto performance was fantastic, as much fun as my TM High Cycle AUG, so I'd like to fix that occasional low power shot. (I thought maybe it was double feeding to do that, but no sign of a second BB) I would have used it again today, but I forgot to take the right battery with me 🥴 -

@Rogerborg has suggested to me spooging some chainsaw oil into the shell and silicon spray up the nozzle as a good way of lubricating a gun without doing a gearbox opening. The question becomes... Which chainsaw oil is best for the job? And where to spooge exactly? -
30m is a long way, that MED does soon become a PITA, as I found today when using my bolt action sniper... Thanks in part to my safety catch that seems to get knocked to safe at exactly the wrong times, I had people closing from 'ideal sniping range' to 'too close' in the blink of an eye, and I ended up fumbling for my pistol... at which point I was comprehensively out gunned

I don't think I've tried the Ruby but their IPA is good. Butty Bach and Old Empire IPA in my fridge, but I'm drinking cans of Old Speckled Hen for some easy, cheap beerage tonight I've recently bought a day sack from Action Hobbies, I've got a skirmish tomorrow, just debating with myself of I'm going to pack it now or get up earlier tomorrow...

Yup I got a notification too, nearly went for it immediately. It'd be great to hear from you how well it works... Any idea on how long it'll take to arrive?

I was being semi-ironical. I drink IPAs T'wife likes a Stella though, so do I buy it I would save the rats piss comments for the Coors and Budweiser's of this world though, Stella ain't that bad
