Yeah I know what you're getting at... The M4 platform is... how can I put it.... Well I've been in IT for 35 years, and back when I first started out there was a saying "nobody gets fired for buying IBM", indicating that sometimes the safe choice is a good one. It won't get you sacked (but there's a tacit admission it might not get you promoted either) It's a saying that mostly came from IBM salesmen of course ☺️ The M4 / AR platform is ergonomically very sound, you can argue it's a super-safe choice, but personally I really like the handling. Tactical / speed reloads are satisfying when the mag drops out... STANAG mags fit nicely in their pouches... All the controls fall nicely to hand... And of course the after market parts are hugely plentiful. The downside is every bugger has one. Or three or four. 95% of the guns at a site might be M4 / M16, so where's the fun in that, you might think. If you do think like that, buy something different 😎. The OP will probably end up with at least one M4 in their collection at some point, they're too ubiquitous to avoid, so it could be the first one. It's hard to go 'properly wrong' with one.

The DE M904 is becoming a staple ... not just here, but my local site is running these as rentals, and the tech confirms they're running well alongside the collection of older G&G Raiders (the Raiders are also a reliable and often recommended starter gun, but they're now seriously overpriced given their totally basic feature set) https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m904g-honey-badger-w-fire-control-system-edition £150 leaves you cash left over for extra mags and ammo and gear. (£190-230 gets you metal receivers and hand guards, if you want to stretch) I would recommend you pick up one super-cheap off the classifieds, but I've seen one Double Eagle get sold in all the time I've been here. Which means people are buying them and are happy to keep them. The 904 is polymer-bodied so won't be your Bestest Gnu Evaaaaah, but when you move on to something pricier it'll make a super-reliable backup / loaner. (That's what my 906 is supposed to be, given my ever-growing collection, but it's still my go-to gun) Having said all that... MP5's are inherently super-cool, and decent ones will be good for CQB and woodland - if you want to skip the M4 style for now - I'd go there. An MP5 is still on my shopping list

That's good enough for me! Awkward magazines that still fit in my mag pouches (unlike smg mags)
-
This is true. Sometimes even the same platform varies... a tad... I'm undecided on the one on the left, the right one is great though

Hey, those Double Eagle commission cheques don't write themselves, y'know?

Yeah, I've never been a fan of the AK / AR mashups in the past, I suspect my positive attitude to this one is because it's almost all AR plus the AK mag (... and that's about it), and because it's Double Eagle and I've become a fanboi 😋
-
It's an all-polymer new release from DE... rather tickles my particulars... For a start I've already got an AK with a couple of mags... and I've got too many M4 variants already - but I'll always be happy to have another DE

Bejaysus, I mind walking to the car if I've parked it an extra 6" away from the kerb 😁 The OP mentioned he's got his own guns and kit, I'm really not sure I could get much stuff around on a bus or train, especially in gun-shaped carriers.... not saying it's impossible, as you've obviously managed it, but it's not going to be easy is it? I struggle to get my regular purchases of Stella Artois back from the car to the house 🤡

To be fair I have no idea how public transport will get him within walking distance of RIFT. In fact I've been puzzling at exactly how to get into the site given the direction I'll be coming from... 'street viewing' of the Google directions didn't help As to the OP - sorry, I can't help as I'm coming to the site from the opposite direction

Shamal mentioned this (on the wrong thread) but it's definitely interesting... A really innovative set of internals. It seems it's already on sale for ~$450 so it won't be cheap but it has enough features to make it a potential "Am Bestest Gnu" at the mid-to-upper price range Edit: Apologies - although I searched I didn't spot the thread from last year about this. There aren't many users reviews of this yet. One of them is just gameplay but the owner says in the comments he's going to change a bunch of the internals, including the motor which apparently has a poor reputation.

... he mentioned the war and didn't get away with it

That's a good spot - it looks rather enticing ... from the sales blurb anyway! I've been thinking it would be fun to put together an HPA gun using one of many existing 'not quite right' guns as a starting point (or buy a new boneyard gun with nice externals). This seems like a good candidate.

Agreed, but on the flip-side no seller should get in a huff about a buyer not wanting to do F&F even if (objectively / for the sake of the argument) he/she does have a good rep. The 'only what you can afford to lose' is a good thing to go by. It varies greatly for different people of course, and I once read a psychology article that says when you're scammed the financial hit feels three times worse than if you'd just dropped the money down a hole. I can believe that.

Poor trigger discipline in that last pic, you're going to shoot yourself in the arse at some point 😂 -

... Or the spammers script needs a tweak (which I think Rogerborg might well have been hinting at)

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger
RostokMcSpoons replied to mightyjebus's topic in AEG/GBBR Reviews
Enjoy your new gnu With regard to mid-caps, I can only offer this advice. My solitary M4/STANAG mid-cap doesn't fit my DE. It's a Tippmann, P-Mag style(?). It's unlikely you'd be considering stocking up on those, so not hugely useful advice... unless there's a general problem with the polymer-body mags being too tight like this one. All my others are high caps. I've got a couple of odd-ball ones (the extended length variety) which don't work, all the rest (I've got lots of 'em) are fine. Except my primaries - I have 4 x Lonex flash mags, that tend to unwind a bit if inserted at the wrong angle and too gently. -
There'll always be someone with more range, and a higher RoF. And if there's not that, it'll be one of them pesky sniper chappies dressed as a tree, or a pre-schooler hidden in a dark corner to zap you. But the main thing is, those are the words that always precede "I'll just open the gear box" which often ends in tears - or an ever-widening opening of the wallet until you're living in a cardboard box under a bridge... So unless you're struggling to shoot out to 40-45m (which will probably be fixable with a new hop rubber and nub, and maybe a new barrel), I'd honestly counsel you to concentrate on improving / changing your play-style so that range becomes a secondary issue. If you're static on the front line, trying to trade shots with a bunch of other guys there will always be a Long Ranger in there to spoil your fun, it's better to find a way to close the range on a flank or through smoke, or encourage some proper covering fire from your teammates so you cancel out that range advantage. It's easier said than done, I admit, but you give yourself more chance of making a "hero moment" of breaking a deadlock. I had mine at the last skirmish when I took advantage of a well-placed smoke grenade someone else had thrown to push forward 10 yards and take out the two guys who were completely holding down the rest of my team. (I'm still waiting for my medal, it must be coming) That's so much more satisfying than just having a gun that happens to shoot 2m further than your opponent.

This says a lot about the state of airsoft gun design and their QA, doesn't it?
-
It's the same method as on my Double Eagle M906, so there are similar wheels elsewhere 😋 I was fooled by it too, thanks to @Adolf Hamster for pointing out to me how it worked. Dan, have you tapped out the pin above the trigger?

Double Eagle M906C - Internal upgrades / tinkering
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Electric Guns
I found the old ML Macaron 50deg hop rubber (tatty and grubby as it is), re-installed it, fps back up to 290fps) at minimum hop with 0.28's. Looking down the barrel there's still a little bit of impingement at the lowest setting, but it's the least of the three I've tried, and that's with the Omega nub in place. I'll test it outdoors later, it's a little early to sling BBs now, but I don't expect this setup to over-hop. Back where I was 4 weeks ago? Maybe. The feed lip is slightly shredded, I think it might be adding it's own spin to the BB to spoil my accuracy... except it's been bettter than 'fine' in the last skirmish. Airsoft... it's as much art / luck as science...
