Awwww c'mon chaps, give the guy a tiny break I'm thinking he either wants to generate content for sites to promote themselves, for which he'll charge a fee. Well it's an interesting business proposition, though unlikely to be particularly lucrative, given the size of the market. At least it'd be making a bit of pocket-money to help him fund his gear. Or he wants to hone his video editing skills whilst promoting the sport of airsoft. In which case 'go ahead', surely? Either way, no need to golden-rain on his parade already, just cos he's been a bit.... 'enthusiastic' You old cynics! * * Venn diagram of 'old' and 'cynic' usually includes me squarely in the middle, but I'm obviously feeling generously 'fluffy' today -
Looking at mine (vs either the original, or one I got from Patrolbase too), I think it's the plastic at the top of the mag. There's a bit of taper to the top of the magazine, but if I'm using my digital calipers accurately on both then there's maybe an 0.7-1mm extra width to the top of the new mag If I insert it carefully vertically then it slides in with little resistance, but if it's at any sort of angle it jams up. It won't quite drop free when the release is pressed. Pretty sure it'll wear in quickly though. My old mag also has a little bit of wear in the metal just above the retention slot, but I think that's coincidental. On the plus side, once it's past the initial resistance, and then a second heavier resistance to the mag catch engaging, the mag clicks into place very positively - better than the old one (which sometimes needs an extra tap to seat it correctly, especially when the BBs are really stacked in)
-
Yeah, mine are super-snug too, but I think a bit of wear will sort it out. If not, a bit of gentle filing will no doubt do the trick - there'll no doubt be some wear marks soon enough, to show the sticking point(s) - I'll just work on those areas. I watched that video too, but I thought I'd get a go-ahead from LandWarrior to try it all before doing it, in case I want to send one or both back for replacements. Did you actually use the silicon kitchen sealant stuff on the gasket, or just freshen it up with silicon oil? One of my mags seems ok (though I think I need to really warm it up when it's full to be absolutely certain), the other is just very quietly making a gurgling / sizzling noise. I guess it's a tiny leak but it's not what I expected from a new mag - especially where I doubt the mags are sitting around in a stock room for very long. I sent LandWarrior multiple emails and they've not replied as yet, which is a tad disappointing - I'll phone them in mid-morning if there's still no reply.

I'm still gutted though, I was really looking forward to zapping someone with it for a 'humiliation kill'. I'll have to find something else! -

DISASTER Oh woe, woe is me! Barely 4,101,226 * shots into its life, my poor gnu has died! The trigger has decided to have a Quite Sudden And Catastrophic Unscheduled Disassembly (I think it broke) so my hopes of Total Battlefield Domination are dashed! I always said Double Eagle were tripe, but did anyone listen? Did they? What a tragic waste of my 0.0002188662727073758 Bitcoin! * (or maybe it was about 25 ... due to the previous owner not furnishing me with a full history of its usage, we shall never know) -

Absolutely Just did a test shoot with them through the VFC HK416 GBBR, tightened up the group from ~4.75" (with Warhead 0.28's) to 2.5" + one flyer (which stretched it out to 3") Obviously most of that will be down to the heavier weight of the BBs, but they're deffo top quality! Edit: I did the 0.28 Warheads a little bit of a disservice, it was a 4.6" group and that had one slight flyer too - without that it's a 4" group. Pretty decent! But the 0.40s are appreciably better. -

Two deliveries for me in one day, it's like it's Christmas! Except with fewer fat men in red clothes shouting about ho's. (Disappointing, tbh) 1) A big ol' bag of Geoff's Natural Precision 0.40g BBs for my sniper and GBBR 2) This beauty, as described here Feast your mince pies (oh, it is Christmas after all) Will my new gnu lift 0.40's, for added impact and accuracy? (No) -
Being such a Double Eagle fan-boi for so long, and also very much enjoying my G&G G36C, I just had to pick up this bad boy! I haven't chrono'd this yet, but the power is amazing. I can reach out to a full 14 or even 15m (if I aim at a slight, or perhaps extreme angle upwards). I really must work out how to install a hop unit into this, so I can unlock its full potential. 20m might be within my grasp! The 0.20g BBs disappear into the distance with a beautifully curved ballistic trajectory (that goes in every direction, thereby proving Schroedinger's Uncertainty Principal) before slamming into any object with a resonating 'tic' or 'ping' or even 'flump' The Rate of Fire is a little disappointing, I've only managed 1 shot every 5 or 10 seconds so far, but I'm sure that will improve with practice. Hey at least I'll conserve those expensive BB's! Talking of which, I need to source more magazines, I fear one magazine may not allow me to dominate the battlefield, whatever the RoF. I am definitely considering building a lightweight loadout to support this as it will definitely become my primary for the next skirmish. The impressive low weight (of less than a half a bag of sugar) means I'll be dancing around the site faster than those pesky kids Now... what to accessorize it with? I may have to transfer my 1.25-5x LVPO across from my HK416. A torch and laser combo for CQB is surely a must too. Perhaps a real-steel pistol grip (could be glued on somehow)? Edit: For those envious chaps who want to pick one of these up, here's a link I was soooo lucky that Action Hobbies had this lightly used one on sale for a mere 147,460.53 Vietnamese Dong

Yup, TPH is on to something with the idea of upgrading something rather than going off-the-shelf - if you're not fussed about (for instance) the NGRS 'recoil' then you could just buy an AEG with nice enough externals, like a Krytac Trident CRB, and then send it off to Luke at Negative Airsoft to fettle for you... he'll basically do all the QA work that the manufacturers don't bother with - you'll end up with a 'sorted' gnu that didn't cost too much. There are some very nice AK's to be had, we've not really explored those - do they appeal at all?
-
I'm going to be sad if VFC have foisted another 'work-in-progress' gun on the people (c.f. the first version of the 416, as per Bada Bing's YT review) But then I'm going to be happy when I think I can't afford the damned thing now anyway, so waiting for 'version 2' is a good and eminently sensible thing. And then I'm going to be sad again, as I want some sort of MP5 / G3 thing in my life. Edit, FYI... Sixmm have them in stock

(Sorry I keep bumping my own thread, but if it's new stuff, it's new stuff...) I just received my two "nearly hens-teeth-rare" VFC mags from LandWarrior. I check 'em both - they were both empty, so immediately gassed them. One of them is peachy, the other is leaking. Well I've taken the 'easy' method first, and squirted some Abbey maintenance gas in there. It's still leaking but slowing... hopefully that'll fix the seal(s) because I've never had to take one apart before... I have a gas valve key - but it's not the right size for the fill valve on the back Alternatively I could just send it back (at a small cost) - is that actually wiser? Is a new mag that has leaked always going to be (technical term) 'shagged'? Edit: Well, bugger. I left the working one in the sunlight, and that decided to start leaking too. I've watched a couple of YT vidz about gas mag maintenance, I've tightened the screws on the base, and the fill valves (as best as I can with a screwdriver). They both seem to be leaking from within the mag shell, but without stripping them down I won't know where from exactly. I've emailed Landwarrior to give them the news and ask for their advice.

Double Eagle M904g – Aka the Original Q Honey Badger
RostokMcSpoons replied to mightyjebus's topic in AEG/GBBR Reviews
I've got a cheeky bargain SRC Magnetar waiting to go in mine. But I must admit I've not been brave enough to fit it yet - I want my Ol' Reliable to stay that way! But there is someone on these forums who has replaced the motor in multiple DE's... I think it's @Stevobeavo (Edit: nope, @Fatboy40) but I'm afraid I can't be certain... anyway, the I remember it being described as a drop-in replacement, with no hint it'll knacker your gnu Edit: I have this one in my AK2M4 basket, it must be the recommended beastie... https://www.ak2m4.co.uk/shs-high-torque-motor-16tpa-long ... but that's a long and my Magnetar looks like it's a short. I've gone awry somewhere! Edit2: Long is correct for V2 gearboxes. My bargain motor therefore ...isn't. -
My VFC HK416 won't fire if the magazine doesn't seat properly - if I fill the mag to capacity there's a lot of pressure on the top BB against the underside of the bolt which I suspect is the issue. Beyond that I'm not experienced enough with the GBBs in general to guess what your problem might be

Solink Brushless Motor for Airsoft AEGs Review
RostokMcSpoons replied to Ranger's topic in Accessory Reviews

Yes, agree with that... we need to know what problems you're having with the MP7 and MWS, it could be a lot easier on your bank balance to just get those running properly / at their peak Is it accuracy? Is it range? Is it reliability? Feeding issues? BBs stuck in the barrel? Is it... something else? If you're using gas with silicone lubricant then you're coating the hop rubber and thereby losing it's grip on BB in the chamber - will likely lose range and possibly accuracy too If the hop rubber is damaged in any way - loss of accuracy and maybe distance What sort of maintenance are you doing (if any) - has the barrel been cleaned out recently? What weight and manufacturer of BBs are you using? I could go on (and probably will ;)) Edit: seen your previous post now... are you mag-dumping, or using full auto a lot, or just sticking to semi-auto? Cool-down is The Enemy of all GBB's, I'm sure you're well aware. TM's are usually considered to be the best, certainly in terms of the MWS and MP7 you have. Edit2: You might find this video useful, as the DAS GBLS was something I'd have mentioned as a God-tier AEG (except I can never remember the letter-salad of its name)
-
If money was no object, a lot of people would buy an MWS! Maybe you've had a struggle because of the cold weather, but that's the gold-standard level for gas rifles you've got there with both the MWS and the MP7. So I'd really encourage you to try again as the temperatures rise. (Or sell me your guns) If it's alternatives then HPA might give you a bit more consistency - all the MTW owners I've met will swear by (rather than at) their gnus, so must be something good about 'em. Electric guns... ooft, quality and QA seems to vary so much between different guns even by the same manufacturer, could be a tricky job. NGRS have a good rep (though I believe Luke at Neggy Airsoft refuses to work on them... so maybe not?), but the recoil part of the deal is underwhelming compared to a GBBR. I don't have any real experience of high-end electric RIFs so I've not much to say beyond that. Meanwhile as a counterpoint... I have so enjoyed my Double Eagle M906C precisely because it's been cheap and reliable. My expectations aren't silly because it's relatively inexpensive, but it just keeps on delivering. Also, less expensive gnus means you can buy lots of 'em. More guns = MOAR GUD

Bargain-basement lightweight hydration pack

This is all heading towards a lack of justification for spending money on new gear. Or even 'stuff'. This is very 'un-airsoft-like'. We'll have our credentials cancelled if we're not careful -
Bargain-basement lightweight hydration pack
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in General Help
Oooh electrolyte tablets, good shout there -
Well, given how much I enjoyed myself on Saturday, I've invested in a couple more mags from Landwarrior Airsoft, at £50 each (don't tell the wife, bank manager, or anyone else who knows me), so inevitably I will start thinking of what else I can buy / tweak on my new "Precious" I don't know what sort of maximum range I'm getting from the gun - as I was picking my shots to conserve ammo - and there was enough vegetation to block longer shots, I really wasn't engaging at more than 30-40m. But of course I'd like to be able to stretch that out. Are there any simple recommendations for getting the best out of my '416? Anything to help accuracy primarily, but absolute range too? I've got a bag of 0.40's on the way, which I already know the gun seems to handle well, but obviously I'm thinking of hob rubber, nub etc. Looking down the barrel, there seems to be barely any hop rubber impinging and yet it's pushing 0.28's to that ~40m range nicely. As I understand it, the VFCs use VSR-style hop rubbers - is that right? Is there any point swapping it out? Edit: Just slapped a few shots into paper, that's a 4.6" / 117mm group at ~17m ... that seems pretty good - is it? Oh, and an extra Brucie-bonus question: In the absence of an Odin + an available adapter (Airtac are out of stock, currently) ... I'm using a Viper speed loader. I was still having a few problems getting the BBs into the mags during the skirmish - so I've not developed a fool-proof method or got the knack just yet. Is there a 'Rolls-Royce' of speed loaders that I can buy, that'll make the task any easier? This Viper thing occasionally feels like it'll shatter into a million pieces as I try to jam the BBs through the system. It hasn't yet, to its credit, but is there something better?

Bargain-basement lightweight hydration pack
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in General Help
Thanks for the info chaps 👍 When I played on Saturday it was quite warm, definitely worked up a sweat and a thirst, but it was all fine-and-dandy thanks to the easily available bottles of water. I am probably going to Red Alert on the 14th though, along with some of my Spec Ops pals, and if water isn't free(ly) available, I think I'll need that hydration pack sharpish. I'm pretty sure I'm quite easy-going on my kit - too old to be running very fast (though I did do an accidental paintball-hero-slide into cover a couple of times on Saturday), so I'm not too fearful of damaging a camelbak, for instance. I'll have another look for something bargain priced, but preferably new. I guess the alternatives (which I'd forgotten to consider) are a simple canteen (too noisy when half full? too bulky on the belt?), or a small water bottle holder / pouch... does anyone use the low-tech simple approach of either of those? -
Looking pretty damned good as it is, but the original stock would be the best option IMHO Might need the CTR to keep it (physically and optically) balanced though, because of the acoutrements on the front end

has the mud dried up?

Awwww feck it, if I'm not much mistaken they have just bumped the prices, and they're out of stock on the black mags with HK markings I wanted. I'm getting a quote of 60Euro for the grey mags, with a total including courier of 142.60 for two mags... £125. I might invest in a speed loader adapter and an internals kit for my Odin knock-off instead... Edit: I was getting awfully confuzzled... looking at stuff on my phone, versus on my PC where I'm logged-in and therefore the site adds the taxes appropriately. So there are black mags available, but inc tax they're 70Euros a pop, so ~£145 delivered, tax paid. I think I'll try Patrolbase at £108 delivered, even if I will probably miss out on using them for a couple of skirmishes :sniff: Edit2: Bought the mags from Patrolbase, then thought I'd just have one last check elsewhere... "Bingo" https://www.landwarriorairsoft.com/airsoft-magazines-c3/gas-rifle-magazines-c55/umarex-vfc-hk-416-gbb-magazine-p7437 £50 a pop, £6 delivery, 4 still left in stock after I've bought a couple! Just to have to cancel that Patrolbase order now
-
Patrolbase are now selling direct from their Euro warehouse, so the price is still a sensible-ish £50 plus £7 delivery. BUT the expected delivery time is around a month. Powair are charging €58 plus €19 for 5-6 day delivery. What I can't remember is whether they'll charge extra for duty, VAT, customs fees etc. I asked that question before, I'll have to go searching when I'm back on my PC €58 = £51 so if we don't get stung too much on currency fees, plus all those possible extras, Powair looks a good deal to get the mags quickly.
