Yup, that looks fantastic. But ... oh no, you've got me thinking of getting a G43 to go with it, when will the expense ever end? ;D I've seen cheap magnifiers at my site before, and on AliExpress etc... but I heard they tend to flop around on the flip mount, and are therefore as much a liability as a benefit. So it would really, actually, definitely need to be a good one, wouldn't it? I bought a LPVO 1.25-5 scope which is on my DE M906, I do intend to give that a proper run to see how I like using zoom in-game, I've only ever tried a sniper scope before and didn't really get on with that.. so maybe it's a temptation I might be able to stave off. How do you find using the magnifier?

Yeah, I guess that's my remaining concern is that any airsoft-level sight won't have sufficient shock resistance. Looks like I'll be Mr Guinea Pig on the Sotac one My real-steel Kobra seems to be suffering at the moment (and I think this pre-dates my GBBR) that a knock to it triggers the 'lower brightness' button circuitry. A full burst of shots turns the brightness to zero. That's one of the reasons I wanted to buy a new sight. It unfortunately demonstrates that even rugged sights with a good rep aren't completely bomb-proof. Ok, thanks for the input, I appreciate it even though I've either misunderstood it, or disagreed with it. Eotech's are the one thing I've got zero experience of, I didn't expect them to be different from red dots (given that I wouldn't be going for a true holo sight). My only real-steel sight is a Kobra. Functionally, in terms of parallax, that's acting the same as my other red-dots (which are all cheap and/or used). -------------- Edit: The green rattle can came out to play at lunchtime... PEQ box is now 'assimilated'... I think it'll look great with the Eotech-a-like on top
-
Yes, very smart! That's pretty much the look I'm aiming for... I have RIS rail covers down the sides, I have a fake PEQ box (currently tan), the same fore grip, a similar suppressor. I'm short of the torch. The RIS covers are olive drab - I will probably paint the PEQ box the same, get an olive drab suppressor cover, and call it done (Or I paint the RIS covers and PEQ box black, or even rattle-canned camo pattern...)

My mistake, it's a KingScope... https://www.amazon.co.uk/KINGSCOPE-Reticles-Airsoft-Shotgun-Picatinny/dp/B07HF4ZBLQ/ref=sr_1_1 £22 which looks the same as the Feyachi https://www.amazon.co.uk/Feyachi-Reflex-Sight-Adjustable-Reticle/dp/B087PSPP48/ref=sr_1_2 £29 If we think that the Feyachi is a low-parallax sight, rather gives the idea that all cheap sights have bad parallax a bit of a kick in the 'nads, doesn't it?
-
Yeah I get that. But I've just checked my Feyachi 'Amazon special' red dot. Looking at stuff through it inside my house, the parallax error is big, but looking out the window at my garden shed, approx 12-15 metres away, the error is comparatively tiny. Parallax error is all about the range, and at the ranges where accuracy really counts, it's not an issue. Maybe this sight is a brilliant bargain and a complete outlier, but I rather doubt it
-
The vibe I'm getting though is that anything below HW levels is trash, but HWs are way above my intended budget. And will have to come from Them Foreign Climes. So the input has been useful - I thank you all. I've dragged myself away from feeding at the very bottom, and went for something a bit better, safe in the knowledge that the stuff that's actually good was more than I wanted to spend. And yeah, I've been casting around the Classifieds for a cheap sight for long enough that I definitely have become impatient
-
You'll forgive me I hope, but I think the whole parallax error thing feels like a bit of a trope - it's a factor for sure, but in the grand scheme of airsofting I don't think it matters so much. 1) All red dot / holo sights have some degree of parallax error. That comparative video I linked to has a section (at 10:30) showing all the sights. Even the actual Eotech has an error. It's noticeably smaller than all the others, but it's there. 2) All the other sights (even the HWs) were 'much of a muchness'. I think the reviewer showed some bias as he immediately liked the HW S1 and so when he showed the parallax on that, he didn't seem to move the gun around quite so exaggeratedly as he did with the others But other HW sights weren't much better than the cheap 558 he had in his selection. 3) Good sights are tuned to have zero error at a certain range. It's almost certainly going to be at 100+ metres for a real-steel, so that's beyond what we can use. 4) We all know that at a push we could play airsoft with no sights at all, and walk the bb's on to the target. I'd even be fairly confident in hitting a torso first time without sights at 15-20m 5) ... And at super-short range (where the error tends to be the greatest), personally I instinctively point-and-shoot - don't use the sights at all. 6) When I do use my sight 'intentionally', then I tend to have the crosshair in (or very close to) the middle of the window. Parallax then becomes a non-issue. 7) And finally the fact we're shooting guns that are inherently not that accurate. A bit of extra inaccuracy is not welcome, but we deal with it all the time anyway. Anyway, I found a review of that Sotac sight, and it seems fairly decent - I'm taking a punt on it (as buying it right now means I can have it in time for my skirmish at the weekend)
-
I like the EXPS 3 design, with the integrated quick release mount. I've just checked out HW sights. Interesting comparative YouTube review shows the HW S1 is the one to get, if you have the dosh. But there's not many to be spotted in the UK. Dave's is selling the S1 at £140. That's too much tbh. (And they're sold out anyway) So back in the Poundshop, there's this one on eBay that's not the same as those £15 Ali ones, so maybe a step up in quality (or maybe that's wishful thinking) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/294056699806 Looks quite nice for £55 I'll have a further look at the pricier ones on Ali.
-
Yeah I appreciate "holosight" is a very specific Eotech thing. I'm obviously rooting around the bargain bins here I guess I do have to a bit careful with the cheapest sights - the recoil on the 416 is really quite sharp, so a cheap sight might not survive it. I have seen YT vids of a guy who sticks cheapo Chinese sights on real-steel guns and shows they can stand up surprisingly well - might be 'pot luck' though!
-
I've never been the biggest fan of Eotech's in my games (Battlefield, CoD etc), but I've come to the conclusion it's the very thing to make my HK416 look more 'tacti-cool' so I'm in the market for one. But never having shopped for one I don't quite know where to go. Obviously Amazon and eBay have quite a few options. I've seen this one 'ere, which is one of the cheapest Amazon deals at £38, but damn-it, it's got one 2-star review, and I know these are on AliExpress for £15 + postage (and + long delivery time). Maybe that's still a sensible option (either Amazon, where I can send it back easily, or Ali, for being dirt cheap), or maybe it's a complete piece of trash that I need to avoid - I need guidance Any thoughts? I've seen ads for these used at £20-30 (but they've dried up as soon as I've committed to buying one, natch). That's my natural territory for impulsive purchases, but I'll go higher (twice as much... £60?) for an obvious step up in quality. I'll get a protector for it from Red Dot Engineering on eBay If you have one and you're interested in selling it, I'm obviously interested Links... https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=holographic+sight+airsoft&crid=2HPUMX63HTJG7&sprefix=holographic+sight+airsoft%2Caps%2C132&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 https://www.aliexpress.com/w/wholesale-551-holographic-sight.html?SearchText=551+holographic+sight&catId=0&g=y&sortType=price_asc&trafficChannel=seo https://www.ebay.co.uk/b/Holographic-Hunting-Sights-Scopes/7307/bn_55178084 https://www.ebay.co.uk/str/reddotengineering

Cybergun Colt M4 blast blue fox info required
RostokMcSpoons replied to DRaZZ's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
@Rogerborg you mention the double-firing on semi with 11.1v. Would a MOSFET with Active Breaking help with that? I'm considering a cheap MOSFET for my G36 just to protect the trigger contacts, but if for a few more quid (£15 --> £25) I could also protect that from happening, well, that'd be good wouldn't it? https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/gate-nanoaab-mosfet-advanced-active-break -
My 2 mags is a long way from 5... I sense I may have some frustration with that on the day. Oh well, I'll have to keep telling myself it's an experiment at the moment. WGC Shop have them in stock, has anyone had recent experience with them? https://www.wgcshop.com/products/umarex-vfc-30rds-gas-magazine-for-hk416-ccwar-gbb-series £48 a mag, on par with Patrolbase (who have none left). It looks to be about £30 for the cheapest shipping, but I think that's by sailing dinghy, might take a good long while to turn up! Edit2: Powair6 have the lighter (in colour and weight) mags in stock.. with the shipping coming from France, and cheaper per-mag prices (I think because these ones don't have the H&K trades on them), it works out at £105 for two, shipped. https://www.powair6.com/en/gbb-magazine/12768-vfc-30rds-magazine-for-umarex-hk416-ar-gbbr-grey.html Are Powair6 ok?

P90 pouch as a gas can holder? I like that, I like that a lot! Just made an order from Patrolbase, I'll see if they've got one I can add in. (Edit: out of stock, damnit) It'll save me buying mini-cans I can fit in my existing pouches Edit: Is the pouch this double P90 one? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Viper-P90-Mag-Pouch-V-Cam/dp/B00WX21DFO/ref=sr_1_1 That seems to have an internal divider - do you just cut it out, or will the can fit regardless? -
Need to buy a QD sling 'thingy' to fit into the socket on my Double Eagle M906C. As I'll either use a single point sling, or both ends of a 2-point attached to the same swivel, the whole weight of the gun is going to hang off this one QD connector. So it better be a good 'un! Any recommendations? (Good ol' Ant Supplies have this one, but at a fiver it feels it might be less reliable than the very best. I'd pick the triangular one, probably) https://www.ant-supplies.uk/gun-sling-fittings/sliding-stock-sling-fittings.html

I like cheese

I bought the last mag Patrolbase had, last week Defcon have some, at £60 a pop. Ouch. (Edit: oh no they don't, can't find any in the UK at the moment) I'll play my skirmish next week with 2 mags just to make sure I'm not pining for my AEG + 4x300rnd high caps

G&G G36 (GEC36) - M4 Magwell adapter
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Electric Guns
Damn, so that's the reason this gnu was so well priced, I guess. It's so well made I can't stop picking it up to 'feel the heft' so I'm not begrudging the expense, however it turns out Well, I've fired off a message to Dave's Custom shop to see if they have an opinion, but the lead time on an order is quite long. I'd quite like to have this ready for next weekend. In the meantime I'm going to order a JG adapter, which should arrive quite quickly. I'll saw off the tube, and then either adjust the fit of the whole thing onto the gun Or drill out the feed hole backwards so it lines up... I'll then have to pack the front of the tube to make sure the BBs align correctly, but hopefully I can make that happen. I kind of enjoy these mini-engineering projects (or bodges, as everyone will call it when they see the results!) -
Having just bought a beautiful used GEC36, I thought I'd stick on the mag well adapter I'd bought in anticipation of this moment. Well, I did feel like a bit of a d*ckhead tbh, it turns out I'd bought another G36 magwell, not an adapter! However, fitting it did reveal some things I'd have otherwise missed if I had just gone straight off to order one now: 1) Aren't G36s fantastic? I love the bodypins with their little retaining wires, and the fact the stock has holes to store them in while you work on the gun. And the way the mag well fits and can be replaced - very clever! 2) The G&G mag well has a different feeding tube arrangement than the JG / Cyma gang - there's a metal tube down from the barrel / nozzle area to meet the top of the magazine, whereas the JG arrangement has a feeding tube up from the mag well instead... G&G G36 mag well : JG M4 adapter : 3) The mag well I bought looked very much the same as the G&G one, had the tube on the top. Turns out it was from an Ares. It fitted fine once I'd hack-sawed the tube from the top, but I then noticed the hole didn't quite align with the gun's feeding tube. The hole was slightly ahead of the gun's tube by ~1mm, enough for a BB dropped down to not reach the barrel. My questions are therefore: It seems the G&G is built to a different design than the Ares. Is the Ares likely to be the outlier, or the G&G? ... if I buy the JG adapter, hack the tube off the top, what are my chances of success (that the holes/tubes will line up)? I've obviously found a number of sources for the JG style adapters, but I also found this one at Dave's Custom Airsoft. https://www.davescustomairsoft.co.uk/the-g36-type-to-the-m4-type-magazine-adapter The absence of feeding tube on the top gives me hope, but the spec says it's for GFC guns, which I'd never heard of... does anyone know anything about them? Any thoughts welcomed!
-
I've just bought my first GBBR... I thought given the mechanical simplicity I thought they'd be bullet-proof (if you'll pardon the pun). Maybe getting a bit sticky if not lubricated, perhaps jammed if mud gets in via the ejection port, but that's about it. Was I wrong? (I'll always have a pile of spare gnus in the car, one extra gun at the bomb-up point, and a pistol in my holster)

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Two new guns in separate purchases on the same page in this thread? Don't mind if I do, sir! I think I'm really getting the hang of this airsoft lark ("Buy more guns. Don't even need to shoot them, just keep buying...") It's the G&G GEC36 from Action Hobbies boneyard, so a decent price. Two mid cap mags. Blimey this gun is built solidly! It's about the same weight as my HK416. Really nice polymer (plus metal in the right places). Not the faintest hint of a creak from it, even the folding stock doesn't budge a millimetre. I think I could beat a stegosaurus to the death with it! Which is handy, as it's still Tamiya wired so I've not fired it yet. No dino-hunting for me, until the soldering iron can be found... Edit: Deans fitted (took me longer to find the soldering iron than anything else), the guns a peach. 340fps on 0.20s, very nice 18rps on an 11.1v I'll have to fit a MOSFET on it to protect the trigger contacts as this another gun I don't want to open the gearbox of, in case I spoil it somehow. -
So many views, so few answers ;D Guess I'll answer the ones I've figured out... 2) The NPAS valve is actually inside the nozzle, in the front of the bolt. It needs a 1.5mm Allen key to adjust it, CW = Less Power, CCW = "MOAR POWERRRRRRR". I've not actually done this yet, but it now seems it should be straightforward 3) A test fire at a target reveals my 0.40s were hitting smack on where I was aiming. Either that's very lucky on the ballistics, or the hop is keeping them on the level. (For reference - red dot sight, 15 shots in a 4.5" group, standing, no rest. 6 inside the 1" bullseye. That's quite close to the peformance of my AEG's from a rest with scope sights - pleasing!) 4) I'm now thinking that this big ol' hunk of metal should be able to take pretty much any gas I throw into it. It's really all down to adjusting the quantity of gas via the NPAS to get the right output. I'll probably use my Ultrair and Abbey Sniper gas as they're low on the lube content and won't mess with my hop too much. I'll save my lily-livered Nuprol 1.0 for my plastic slide pistols. 5) I found that BZ Tactical have the rebuild kits for Odin Speedloaders, so could buy one and fit to my cheapo speedloader, and then buy the £22 adapter. But as I've just got two mags for ~60 rounds capacity, I might as well stick with the pistol speedloader for the moment https://www.bztactical.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/8721/s/odin-innovations-m12-parts-rebuild-kit/

Well, damnit. This popped up in the Action Hobbies boneyard, so I bought it https://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/products/gg-g36c-airsoft-rifle-used/ £100 for a G&G It is ex two tone but seems to have been done quite well, and is allegedly shooting very nicely, so sod it, why not. I told myself it'll be a good gun for when my daughter comes to Special Ops with me (studiously ignores the big pile of other guns in the corner)
-
Couldn't spot a thread for this big ol' lump of goodness, so I thought I'd kick one off, so I can ask all my dumb "new owner" questions in one place. I'll also do a personal review once I've taken it for a skirmish, but the TL;DR version is - it feels fantastic as it's built like a tank, the recoil is powerful, and with heavy BBs it seems very accurate at 15m (which is as far as I've shot it so far) A bit of context: I've got several AEGs, a Tippmann M4 HPA which hasn't been set up well enough to skirmish with, and this is my first GBBR, so I'll be asking newbie questions about gas guns in general, as much as about this in particular. This gun was bought used with minimal wear, with a single mag (which itself suggests light plinking use rather than skirmishing) from Action Hobbies. I've just received a second mag from Patrolbase (cost £50, the last they had in stock) As it's set up right now, with some old Green Gas in the mag, it's hitting 290fps with 0.40g Geoff's Natural Precision BBs ... that's about 50fps more than I should have. Oopsies. My initial questions are: 1) What should I check / maintain in the gun from the off? I have already used some light silicone grease mixed with a squirt of silicone spray to make a very light grease, and lubed the bolt carrier and bolt. 2) I understand there's a built-in NPAS or power valve. The instruction booklet is useless, doesn't say anything about that - how do I adjust it? 3) I've only shot my gun at 15m with those 0.40's... is the standard hop-up capable of lifting them at range? Or should I be ordering something a little lighter? (My current ammo is all 0.25 and 0.28) 4) Any recommendations on gas? Currently there's some weird old "Puff Dino"(!) green gas in there that came with the gun. I mostly have Abbey Ultra, Abbey Sniper, and Ultrair Power Gas that I bought for my winter use of pistols. A bit of Nuprol 1.0 and 2.0, and some Abbey 144a Maintenance gas too. 5) Any must-have accessories? I've already got a specialised speedloader adapter (for the cheapo pistol speedloader I'm using at the moment) off of eBay. It seems to work a bit better than the standard one. I've got an Odin knock-off coming too, but I suspect the mag spring will defeat that quite quickly. The full Odin + adapter combo is a bit pricey at ~£72 though! As always, your thoughts much appreciated

Hmmm, I think I did see a video about this on YT quite recently, but I'd also have to say it feels a bit moot. BB's don't travel in quite the same trajectory as real bullets, because of the hop. They tend to fly 'flat-flat-flat-up-(and then straight down)' or 'flat-flat-flat-down'. So really the calculation only makes sense if you have no hop applied, and are using a pure ballistic trajectory. At 'proper' range (ie. at 30, 40, 50m out) the hop applied makes all the difference to how the BB behaves and the point of impact, and you'll be tuning that in the field. I sight my guns in my garden at 15m, and it's all about the windage rather than elevation - making sure the barrel and sights are in line! All the real work with tuning hop and sights can only be done once I can shoot out to 40m Edit: found a blog page and the video... https://reconbrothers.com/training/zeroing-your-optic
