  1. Cheers guys - but actually MPA airsoft sell pre-cut poly discs from 25mm up, as lens protectors. I had identified them as the best source, but the p&p was a bit much for something that could go in a letter envelope. So I pooh-poohed it. "Never pooh-pooh a pooh-pooh". Useful advice, I'm sure you'll agree. Anyway, turns out Nunfa1 is calling in there today and has offered to pick up a couple for me and post them on. Top chap!
  2. Has anyone tried LiFe batteries as an alternative? I know next-to-nothing about them (hiya Wiki, hiya pal), beyond the fact they're supposed to be safe. Can be punctured etc without looking like an accident in a napalm factory* Now I understand they're not as 'energy dense' so for a given pack size you'll be getting fewer mAH and lower voltage. And there's a lot less choice in sizes, but I saw a reasonably sized pack with 900 mAH and 9.x volts, for £20 (iirc). If safety is a serious concern, are they worth consideration? * This is how I imagine a LiPo fire. May be a slight over-dramatization - I've not seen one yet
  3. Cheers I'd seen about the spring issue, so prepared for that... Which strength will I need? Now the stock is an interesting call.. looks like I could fit a triple battery in there, opens up the choice quite a bit...
  4. That'd be brilliant - cheers! Most of the real plastic suppliers don't cut polycarb to less than 30mm, i found, so it'd save me some hunting. They're £1.10 each, I could do with a couple, I think polycarb is pretty indestructible but I might lose one I'll ping you my address and I can pay you £3 by PayPal if that's ok? Lozart - ok mate, you got a deal! PayPal ok for you too?
  5. Wow that's cheap, I'll have a poke around for batteries there. Have you got a 904 with a PDW stock, the reason for going with the crane style? That foregrip is dirt cheap, and worth a try at that price I think... now MPA are already 'of interest' to me as they happen to be the only place I can find that have polycarbonate discs cut to 27mm diameter. They also charge £7 for p&p ('ouch', when it's stuff that'd fit in a small envelope) But if that grip is nice, it'll make the p&p a bit easier to swallow
  6. Arrrggh, My scope being "super Old Skool" is a 1" / 25.4mm tube. But thanks for the offer, and they do look the very thing.
  7. Ahah, yes, uninformed terminology use on my part there, it's the swivels I was after... but your suggestion is even better! That's great, two birds with one stone etc... saves a few more quid for the other bits Edit: In fact that very sling, available for £12 with free p&p is available on a Sale offer at AliEx for ... £3.51. Blimey, I think I'll be hunting around for a few bargains, it's the annual sale on the 11th, and you can pre-fill your basket in preparation!
  8. So now I've got this little beauty... I'm thinking immediately of how to throw a few more pennies at it, to take it away from being "completely stock", and also to make it more comfortable. So I'm thinking ... 1) QD Sling mount(s). Any recommendations for a particular make? I got a bit anxious when I saw a video attached to one review, of Amazon's recommended choice, being yanked out of the attachment point to demonstrate how the gun had dropped when it was being used. As I'm (spoiler alert) looking at one-point slings, I really don't want it 'detaching and dynamically interfacing with ground at 9.8ms squared' so keen to be getting a good 'un 2) A single point sling. Or maybe a 2-point sling. Or maybe a sling that can do both (but not neither). Not a 3-point sling, already got one of them. A 5 point sling is right out. 3) Hi-rise scope mounts. I think I can find a set on Aliexpress and put up with a long wait... they're just to hold an old Viking 4x32 I used to have on my BSA Meteor when I was a kid. It's to experiment with magnification, and also for a touch of nostalgic enjoyment. So the question here is not so much 'which particular style of mount' should I get, it's 'am I being silly ordering from aliexpress' and 'is there anything I need to look out for / avoid' 4) A red dot sight. Yes my lovely Kobra is... lovely, but having just seen how much it's worth I'm kinda scared of using it - at least until I can find a protective 27mm polycarbonate disc to wedge in front of the real lens. I do fancy something small and super-lightweight and so maybe a dinky cheapo pistol sight on a small riser rail? Is that something people do? Any cheap ones worth adding to that AliExpress order? 5) Foregrip / vertical grip / angled grip. Something to attach to all that new M-Lok loveliness at the front. I was looking at these three on Amazon The top two are pretty small, really just to locate the hand. I'm suspecting the third is the one I'll go for, angling forward AK-styleeeeee, as it seems a lot of real-steel guys go for this. I was sort-of tempted with an MP5-K style of vertical grip with a hand stop, but I'm not sure if that'd look silly mounted half-way down the rail. I also saw an Ares Ameoba one that folds from being fairly flat, to angled, to vertical - £25 from Patrolbase, but I haven't seen any reviews or pics, not sure if it's actually good! https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/ares-amoeba-hand-grip-modular-accessory-for-m-lok-system 6) Battery. I've already got a Big Foot 7.4v 25C Lipo but I need another. I'm open to the 'risk' of an 11.1v, but whatever it is it needs to be long(ish) and thin. (I've got an ASG 30W/3A balance charger with auto-stop from Patrolbase to cram the 'electricals' in to whatever you suggest) 7) ....errr, that's it. The moon on a stick would be nice, but probably not stuck to the gun. So yeah - any thoughts welcome! Anyone who has seen my previous posts will know I normally operate at the "bargain bin / crappiest option", for a "Buy cheap, Buy multiple times" kind of style I've just spent a chunk on my new gun. so I'm not changing now
  9. Cheers I've already got a full length M16, so had to get away from that. I was initially going for the PDW / CQB stubby, but this feels a good compromise now I've got it in hand
  10. I did buy it back in the days when dinosaurs walked the earth How much are real ones (like mine) worth now? Maybe I could trade down and fund a new pistol Edit: blimey, I just did a google and the new gen version is £400. I might take it back off and wrap it in swan's down... before depositing it at Fort Knox I'm certainly not going to skirmish it again until I can find a 27mm polycarbonate disc to use as a lens protector! I've got the box in front of me, it was made in 2002
  11. Double Eagle M906C... Yay! Stuck my Kobra red dot on top, because... it's the only red dot I have, but it's cool Notice how Double Eagle can't spell "Marksman" as I guess that's what they wanted to say. Either that or they're great advocates for safety on, and off the field 🤣 First impressions... yowzers! Plugged in a 7.4v 25C lipo via the supplied Tamiya connector and it's shooting very nicely. Will look forward to trying an 11.1 in there. I've just pinged a few shots into my garden so no real idea on accuracy / range / hop etc but all good things, eh? The main thing is it just feels great, so pleased!
  12. Yeah, please keep us updated with the actual results if you do that, as sticking a mock silencer over a long barrel is exactly what I intend to do if I feel out-ranged I do like the look of a suppressor on guns, but only want to do it if there's a tangible gain!
  13. Stock of the 907 models seems to have disappeared at Patrolbase this morning, and the 906's have dropped to just the C version. There are still a selection of 904's but given how quickly the situation changed, their DE stock coverage might well be 'wide and shallow', if you catch my drift. So, damnit, I've been pushed into a corner! I HAD to buy one before someone else got there first! Tell the wife it was a GOOD reason I had to spend the money! M906C on the way tomorrow (I just refreshed the Patrolbase page, I may have nabbed the last 906, there are just two of the longer M904's and a pricier M908 left)
  14. Yes, there's plastic, and then there's plastic these days... when I was buying my TM AK47S (back when they were still excitingly new) plastic guns = creaky and wobbly. With modern polymers they can feel rock-solid and really rather premium. I remember grabbing an Ares Honey Badger in a shop when they first came out, and I absolutely couldn't believe the difference in the feel of it, I was immediately impressed. And the G&G CM's are similar. Very good for the money - light AND durable. I started a thread a couple of weeks back asking for advice on cheaper + short + light rifles. After a lot of research I've settled on one of the Double Eagle M906/M907s as my choice. A little longer than the Ares Stubby Badger and G&G Firehawk I originally thought I wanted (both really cool guns still!), but the DE guns really seem to be a fantastic long-term option that'll leave my two old guns as backups.
  15. Ummmm, I'm not really a fan of the super boxy guns like the Glocks and the Socoms etc, I'm really more into the 1911, the cz75 and the Browning hi power. While I was googling some of them I saw mention of the M45a1. That looks pretty cool, but it is another step up in price... £170. I think the £130 5.1 is where I should go Edit: seems I picked an expensive shop, the m45 is available down at £140 🙂
  16. That's good to hear, thanks chaps Heroshark, was it you that mentioned somewhere about how good the New TM M9s are? Is that the gun with the new blowback unit?
  17. Ok so no one standing up for AA. But the only thing that still gives me some pause is that I hear the plastic slide will fall eventually and I'll need an Airsoft Masterpiece metal slide on a TM They're pretty damned expensive, looks like over £100 for that, would buy an awful lot of rubber seals...?
  18. So it's the battle of the old Champion Of The World versus one of the New Pretenders... Or to put it another way... A known reliable gun with massive upgradability but a plastic slide and a bit less power, versus a metal slide, powerful gun (330fps) with alleged shareability of upgrade parts, and perhaps more questionable reliability... But some spangly looks... (that's the 501) Apart from the polymer vs metal slide, there's also the price, £130 for the TM against £90/£95 for the AA. I'm not intending to upgrade either pistol once I buy it, it will be a backup in woodland games, not a primary for CQB (though never say never..) Is the TM worth the extra cost and the loss of the 'real-steel feel' of the slide, over the unknown reliability of the AA pistols? Also, the AA guns are I think mostly 4.3 barreled, would I lose much accuracy with the shorter length? Anyone have experience with both?
  19. There not much finer recommendation of a gun than buying a second variant of it...!
  20. ... works in desktop view perfectly, would be nice to have it in mobile view on my phone too. Maybe it's here somewhere, but I can't see it! Edit: ok, I'm a numpty, it's in the 'hamburger' menu. I found it by chance, it would be easier to find at the bottom of the page, on the home page perhaps? Oh and I mean 'as well as' where it already is, not 'instead of'
  21. Two versions have sold out now. Please everyone, stop saying how good they are until I've bought one 😄😋
  22. I've not. The cheapest 906 has now sold out (e version) so I'm now at £170. Seeing as that's very close to the 907 prices I can go for one of those if the 6's sell out. The problem is my wife, frankly 🤣. If a big box turns up when she's around, she will know I've been spending and there'll be some 'sub-optimal scenarios' started. Or she doesn't see it, then she'll never know the difference to the bank balance (she never has the faintest clue unless I tell her), and she won't tell the difference with my other guns, I'd be fine. But sods law dictates the courier will turn up when I'm in a meeting, and she's home from her part time work, and she'll open the door to it! The alternative approach is I sell a guitar and can point at a wodge of cash I've raised. That will take a week or two though. And I'll have to say goodbye to a lovely guitar 😔
  23. Sorry about that, it was late, humour detector must've switched off I won't go for that mag then. Useful advice. I guess I'll buy a can of maintenance gas, a diddy can of green gas that'll fit in a pouch, and maybe buy a new fill valve. That won't break the bank, and have some usefulness with my next pistol (when I get around to buying something). If I can get 10-15 shots out of this gun sort-of-reliably per attempt to fill it, that'll make it worth carrying as a backup and not a total paperweight
  24. Yeah that's the right magazine, I hadn't realised there compatibility there, so I might be able to pick up a cheaper one, that's good to know! There's an official CO2 magazine for my gun, which is why I thought it an option https://www.kombatkit.co.uk/hfc-hg190m-airsoft-gun-magazine-hg-series-co2-c02-gas-blow-back-guns-multi-fit-4128-p.asp
