  1. Hello & welcome!

Lots of good advice already ☝️

Get yourself a list together, when you get your first pew there’ll be a ton of stuff you also need and it’s a good idea to make sure you don’t forget something. Chances are all those extras cost as much as the pew!

If you’re playing indoors then I’d highly recommend a weapon light and tracer - although both will ramp up your initial investment.

  2. You know that shiny new board I'd got that I'd not put my bindings on yet? well it turns out snowboard QC is right up there with airsoft QC. Not one of the threads on the inserts was clean enough to take a bolt!

As it was now 6 months old it was a warranty issue and boy are Capita's warranty department slow, three weeks to respond with a slightly odd request for a picture of my binding bolts and then nothing for a week. Got fed up and sent their customer services department a strop-a-gram full of 'I'm sure this isn't what you want for customer service' and 'I feel ....' comments. Next thing I know I get an email from Absolute Snow saying they're issuing a full refund and I can keep the board! - would've been nice to get it sorted without a month long wait but nice to get a resolution all the same.

At which point I'm back to square one, no board, a holiday six weeks away and no DOA's in my size in stock at AS. Frankly I've been a bit soured on the Capita brand after all this so was quite glad of that. So after the application of some man-maths and a healthy dose of 'F**k it' I've ordered a Bataleon Evil Twin+ because it got recommended by a mate and I can't be arsed re-looking for a new board.

Phew, now that the board's sorted I can start looking forward to a trip to Les Menuires in Jan!

Mind you, I'm also tempted to get an M6 die and give cleaning up the threads on the DOA a go, it's currently a wall hanger so can't make it any worse!

  3. Z-Mart last night. They've made a few changes since I was last there, the shop's improved and chrono's moved so there's less chance of new people getting lost in the game zone on their way to & from.

The chrono station was improved too, not just FPS but also picking a BB out of your mag and weighing it. All went smoothly and all my pews were fine, not that I was expecting an issue as I've a chrono at home 😉

Split into two teams at the start, first game was one where anyone can medic you back in and then you joined their team - good to get your eye in, no idea who won, don't think anyone was that bothered TBH 😄

Second was one where a few team member had a light up band, once shot you had to stay in place for 10 secs before going to respawn, in that time anyone could give you their band. The aim was to not have any bands left on your team. Again no idea if there was a winning team.

Third game was an objective grab, you had to collect them and bring them back to a base, that base wasn't your regen as you could also go and raid the other teams base for their stuff too. Was a good twist on the usual objective grab and the layout is such that you can flank the other base so you had to keep your eyes peeled. Was glad I swapped to the 308 for this one as I surprised myself as to how quickly I went through my mid-caps and onto my hi-cap which is my last mag, would have run out of MP7 mags for sure. Our team definitely won that one as we had all the objectives.

Last game was the usual end game, arrange yourself into teams of three and have a team name. Shoot people, medic dead people with your team name. Pretty sure that as you get to a point where everyone's on the same team a PM starts using a different name just to keep it rolling. Carnage, but great fun and a good way to end the night. Funny moment was when I bumped into another player and we were both like 'what team are you on?' not really wanting to shoot each other at point blank range ... so he shot himself in the boot and I medic'd him back in 😂

Took all the pews and they all behaved too, I even remembered to release the pre-cocking on the 308 at the end of the evening which has been something I've forgotten a few times before, definitely need a different red dot on it though.

That reminds me, I need to take the batteries out of the sights & lights.

  4. 18 hours ago, Rogerborg said:

With a single BB loaded?  Testing can be an issue, as you get wacky readings if you empty three balls at once.

No idea, haven't got a shotty so I'm going on the responses on their WhatsApp group.

Tempted to get one though, just for a secondary as it'd make a change from the pistol, albeit less useful for how I play 😂

  5. It's an interesting debate this one. My usual site allows tri-shot albeit at a slightly reduced power - 0.84J / 300fps on a 0.2 IIRC.

A few people have commented that they appear to have been in contact with The Predator, but it's all been good natured rather than moaning about shotties, in fact it's probably increased their popularity if anything!

If the shotties had the same joules as those in semi then I'd be raising the question as to why they get three shots when the rest of us get one, but it seems the limits are taking both that and the up-close-and-personal nature of the shot into account.

  6. Mine's not half as robust as that - it's an Amazon box full of scrunched up newspaper and I keep adding layers to the back when the BBs start going all the way through.

Plus side is it's portable and I can keep it under my desk, which is also handy as my 'range' is a combination of the youngest's bedroom, the landing and our bedroom - not that Mrs M knows that!! Hardly one for the snipers but it means I can test things and - with a bit of help from the internet and lines on a bit of paper - check the zero on my red dots.

  7. Hello & welcome!

You'll love your first game (hopefully) although unless you're planning come indoor CQB prepare for wet weather! Other than that have fun and take your hits.

Where in the SW are you? Am a Cornishman, although while the family's still down there I moved away for uni and ended up staying.

  8. Pretty sure I’ll be ruined after 3 or 4 days on the slopes, probably not helped by being a first & last lift kind of guy. But that’s what the apres ski for right? Recovery beers are definitely a thing.

Think we’ll fly as there’s not much in it cost wise, four of us would be cheaper to drive but two works out even and flying would be less hassle and I also wouldn’t need to buy snow chains.

Did the ski train down to Bourg St Maurice last time I went and while it was easy and cost effective, it was just a regular train that went to snowy places, so half the passengers had board/ski bags as well as a suitcase and nowhere to put them. It was carnage. Hope they’ve got more storage space nowadays.

That said it was great to get on a train after work and be in Bourg for breakfast before getting the first lift of the day, maximised piste time that’s for sure.

  9. Thought I'd see if any other AFUKers are heading to the slopes this season? Skiing / snowboarding / toboggans / whatever, let's hear about it.

Me? I'm a snowboarder and am planning to get back on a mountain after 15 years of only having snow domes to scratch the itch (kids!!), just me & a mate for a long weekend in Jan. All we need to do now is sort out the where - 90% sure it'll be French Alps as his missus wants to do Italy sometime and as we want to make our trip an annual event we're trying not to piss the wives off too much 😂

Just got a new board too (Capita DOA) and not even swapped my bindings over yet!

  10. I believe the standard forum response to "do I need more pews?" is a resounding "yes, of course you do", you've even made it easy by suggesting you need it as a backup and everyone knows it's only sensible to have a backup and even backups need a backup sometimes.

Surely the way out of this is for @son of dan to 'sell' the pews to @Dan Robinson - it's up to you whether you reveal the purchasers identity.

  11. That'll be Eric the dog at Rift. There's a lot of love for him (marshals and players) and heaven forbid anyone that points a pew at him, fire at him and I'd fully expect your body to never be found and everyone to deny you were ever there.

Having played there he's a fantastically well behaved cocker and while he may be in the gamezone he's always out of the way, in fact I've never seen him once a game's started. His owner's a great bloke too (typical that I can remember the dog's name but not his!) and he'd certainly not want his dog to come to any harm.

Most of us pamper our pets, but it's a gun dog and if it was really working then it'd be in loads more danger.

I'm more than fine with Eric the marshal. Rift's a great site too so if you're avoiding it because of Eric then it's your loss because you're missing out on some great game days and you don't get to meet Eric and the rest of the (human) marshals.

I wish my cocker was as well behaved.

  12. Not as often as I'd like. But you know, life.

With two kids playing for three football teams and two athletics clubs between them a weekend game is a rarity (one so far!) so I play CQB on a Thursday night at Z-mart whenever I can fit it in somewhere between being 'dad's taxi' and my other hobbies - mountain biking being the main thing I do on thursday nights when I can.

Will probably play more airsoft as the weather gets more crap.

  13. Hire kit is great for helping to work out what you want and don't want from your own kit.

If you don't want the rattle then more mid-caps is what you need but then that presents it's own problem in that you need to carry them and that's where you get in to chest rigs and belts.

I just use a belt for the AEG as two mid-cap's and a 'last mag' hi-cap are more than enough, I could probably get away with just three mid-caps. There's no weight in an AEG mag so it's no trouble on a belt, I carry two on the belt but I could easily add a third if I felt I needed it.

The GBBR's a different story as I carry 5 mags +1 in the pew and that's a lot of weight on just a belt, so I've a minimalist chest rig and also carry a speed loader for any games longer than an hour.

For games with a fixed respawn you could use a spawn bag with your consumables in and just re-load before you head back out.
