Grumpy oldman groot here, forgive the incoming French... But what the actual fuck has happened to airsoft?

I went to a site last month, woodland and it was single shot. Despite being a shit day, as the games were boring as hell.
Single shot in a woodland environment, its just fucking stupid. 

Then i find out a local CBQ FISH site to me is single shot.. Not just in doors, which i will sort of accept does make some sense ( although i do not support it ) but the entire site. 

Then on this weekend, a bunch of us went to a site, which had a number of buildings. 
If you were in the building, single shot. 
If you were shooting out of the buildings, single shot.
If you were shooting AT the buildings, single shot. 
If you were shooting down the site of buildings, single shot. 
Everywhere else, have at it. 

Now, I find that another site that i used to play at a good time ago and was always very good ( also a large woodland site ).
Is single shot only, the entire site.

When did airsofters become such pansy's?

It is not an insurance thing. As I asked a site owner. 

So why?

Why are we suddenly moving to fucking speedsoft. Where having a HPA piece of shit, that i can feather the trigger to shoot as fast as a full auto AEG becomes an attractive proposition.

When we get back into airsoft my kit is all squared away and ready. Leaving my beloved KWA erg at home in favour of my 2 ics rifs with hi cap mags. Means taking 5 mags instead of 12 to a game day plus speed loader.
Also stripped my plate carrier down to just a triple mag and hydration carrier with everything else on a grab belt kit.
 
For me the mental health kicks mostly from a crappy younger life. Fairly abusive mother, an ex who made life hell and still tries with manipulating the kids etc. Alongside other odds and sods as they say. So all it takes is that little bump to knock me off kilter. Though in fairness i have a pretty amazing fiancee i have been with for 10 years now and she will often kick me up the arse when needed lol

I think we've all got a bit of that, the nature of airsoft, once it gets in your blood lol.
Mate, we sound like twins, except I'm not lucky enough to work in a chippy, that would probably finish me off.
re mental health, I've struggled also, depression & cumulative ptsd, & sometimes as daft as it sounds, when I'm looking forward to a long awaited game, the actual prep of ensuring everything is ready & nothing is forgotten is a total pain, often meant I ended up taking waaay tooo much kit, almost to combat any anxieties.
simple answer I've found is to go minimal, literally the bare essentials, screw geardo precise loadouts, screw plate carriers etc, I go with a molle satchel bag or a molle bandolier (already loaded with 3 hicaps & a bottle of water, & spare safety goggles) literally walk on to site in whatever clothing is comfortable, leave a small case with a spare age & reload kit in the safe zone, throw it over your shoulder & start playing, it's literally like a breath of fresh air, less issues with fitness & I actually find I'm now playing better & not feeling "pressure".
does that make any sense ?

Biggest weakness is poor impulse control meaning I'm likely to buy even more unnecessary equipment and be unable to afford attendance at the game.

That's very honest of you @ghostwalker but you are most definitely not alone with mental health issues. So many people have them now and I think it's a sign of the times, but it's less of a weakness and more of an inner challenge. If we change the internal monologue most people would find there is no problem at all. 
 
The good thing about airsoft is finding like-minded people to game with and a lot of randoms I met over the years told me all sorts of tales about their lives and some were seriously sad, but life affirming as well. 
 
Keep focusing on the things you want to improve on and life will always be easier to live with.

I had been mugged at " gunpoint" by some twat who thought that holding a Browning Hi-Power replica in a "gangsta stylee grip " was the best idea.
 
The Plod asked how i knew it wasnt a real pistol. So, showed him the collection.

Apparently one of my nephew's teachers is aware that "my uncle has lots of guns" ... "did you tell him they're not real?" ...shrug/smirk 🤦‍♂️

Our tech guy was running some testing of the AI of the sentry gun, the barrel flipped up and he found himself facing the cockpit of an apache 
 
 

Weakness. 
like most a bit heavier than I want which leads to me sweating a lot. Though since lockdown I have been running between 20 and 30km a week to try and shift some weight. Not as easy as it sounds when you work in a chip shop for a living. 
 
I am one of those sneaky feckers. Want to know where I am. Look for the forward line. Now look way in front in one of the flanks circling in for the hard flank or rear attack. Problem is. A lot of the time as I arrive the fights over. Though it doesn’t mean I sometimes catch all the respawners flat. 
 
mental health. That’s probably a biggy though. The times I’m all prepped and rating to go Saturday night and come Sunday morning. There’s no pint, in too tired, suddenly don’t feel well etc etc. That’s canned more games days that I have probably played 
 
 

It's actually less complicated than that... it's all down to the softness rating - i'm not sure why it's labeled in degrees; there is no physical angle to consider.
 
The lower the degrees rating, the softer the rubber, you would choose your rating based on the approximate power output of your gun.
 
- 50 degree: 280-360 FPS
- 60 degree: 295-390 FPS
- 70 degree: 360-460 FPS
- 75 degree: 425-490 FPS
- 80 degree: 490 FPS +
 
these are the maple leaf ratings but they are pretty universal tbh.
 
 

Yeah, I managed to fix it. Bit of a fiddle, but not too bad.

It can be done if you have some degree of technical ability. For example an onsite tech fixed one for me during a game but with another I tried at home and the whole thing exploded, sending springs and cogs flying in different directions.

This is it, in a game that has no consciences - TKs ain't that bad. In 90% of airsoft game days I've attended: who won what game and if there was an overall winning team barely gets a mention. Fun ftw usually, so I apologise, take the hit myself and keep working on a better "response time"

Also, well done on not biting and giving a mature response. I'll admit, I'm gutted that I didnt get to see some more drama that this thread brings 🤣😂 but it's nice seeing someone respond so well👍

No apology needed mate, wasn't digging you out per se, guys here are super helpful, almost to the point of spoonfeeding lol, but at the same time we can be a bit critical, especially when it comes to this thread.
