  1. i thought we established it was the magic dust lowering the drag coefficient by 75%?
  2. reckon most of us are trying desperately to keep the place free of the kind of shenanigans that you see plastered over other forums. plus he hasn't replied so we haven't any fresh material to go on.
  3. that's a question with no limit to the number of answers. some pistols are very good out of the box, some might need a little tweaking, some might be hopeless without serious re-work. however as a general rule if we exclude the outliers most pistols can either shoot or be made to shoot further than most people will really be able to make use of the range.
  4. yes and no really depends on the gun, the part, and how perfect you want it to be. it's little things like say a gearset as slightly more backlash in one box compared to another, might be bugger all wrong with the gears or the box just they aint a perfect fit, might well be grand for most uses (hence universal) but if you're pushing the limits then maybe not. thinking about it that's a question that's really hard to give a straight answer to.
  5. it's a tricky one. on the one hand a lot of parts are more universal than you'd get at a first impression but on the other there are proprietary parts out there and what's worse is even parts that are "compatible" sometimes don't quite fit right or don't work quite so well. sometimes there's no substitute for having a box of random bits to trawl through and find the one part that fits right.
  6. we all had to start somewhere, it's pretty rewarding once you get the hang of it. pretty handy being able to have more confidence buying secondhand too.
  7. you've put far too much thought into this....
  8. i must admit i too find the mostly apolitical nature of this place rather endearing.
  9. Strong first post, cmon own up who's alt is this?
  10. absolutely, i've ran with some pretty damn quiet gats in the past and it doesn't matter how little noise it makes when the guy you just hit knows where you are.
  11. true, although the site and game does need to allow sneaky flanking maneuvers the big issue i find is you can spend ages getting into position then one shot and the whole site knows where you are
  12. i like to call that "airsoft hardmode" it is pretty fun, having to be careful to pick your fights and rely on the rest of your team keeping their team occupied.
  13. that's one of the areas (ironically the one most folk forget about). have a look here:
  14. fair point, it's not a desire i share. don't get me wrong i appreciate a nice gat but i also have a minimum standard of performance because my guns are for playing with.
  15. i'd do it simply on weight, you want to carry a 5000 round box mag you're gonna have to lug around a 10lb+ gun means you can avoid the plastic m249's as well.
  16. maybe it's just me but if i'm dropping that kind of cash on a gat i'd like a little more under the hood than stock g&g.....
  17. indeed, but proper support guns, not an arp with a drum mag
  18. as mentioned milsim type events tend to have restricted ammo. i'm kind of for it in a milder interpretation for regular skirmishing as well, nothing too mad just say 1000 rounds per game or something like that. would maybe help with the hicap heroes cutting down every bush that twitches at 50rps.
  19. so umm, what exact parts and workmanship are justifying this pricetag?
  20. It might not be the spring, air seal would be my first port of call.
  21. Also nimh I swear thats just a way of getting out of warranty claims "oh you used a lipo/modified the gun, thats not fair use"
  22. There is a reason to mis-match gears, but i have a distinct feeling this guy wasnt going through several different combinations to acheive minimal backlash and smooth meshing. Also a washer? Whats wrong with tapping the shell for a grub screw? That piston head i suspect is the culprit for the air seal, looks like yhe one i had where the inner surface was rough and it wouldnt form a seal with the o-ring.
  23. Fair enough, its a good way of doing things, rule one is always keep a backup lying around.
  24. No need to change gears or nowt to run 11.1, the cyma boxes tend to run pretty sweet. You should think of some form of mosfet and giving the box a bit of tlc in the air seal department. The box itself is a standard v3 should be nominally compatible with e&l/lct recievers although the front end furniture might be a bit different. Iirc jg trunnions are different, they use a pin to hold the frontend on rather than grub screws.
  25. Unfortunately as @Sniper780 says thats not a standard mount for an ak. the one he pictured is the common type for the classic full stock variants. Real surplus stocks still need modified to fit airsoft guns though. Honestly it might be as easy to try and source a reciever with the right tang than trying to modify things.
