In my experience all the airsofters I've met loved dogs and when I take my labrador into the safe zone everyone wants to stroke him, so I don't think anyone would hurt the dog deliberately.
But in my experience many airsofers have little idea of gun safety and anyway in game all bets are off as it's spray and pray in any case, there's a high chance of the dog getting hit accidentally. Even assuming the dog is wearing actual dog eyepro as opposed to ill fitting human ones, there's still the chance of the dog's highly sensitive nose getting hit. It's not cruel per se to do this but it is neglect and frankly the marshall should have more common sense, not to say empathy.

As to the horse riders, that is very stupid indeed. The thing is that, as we are a much richer society than ever, while at the same time having a predominantly urban/suburban mentality, there are more clueless people with horses than ever, hence also their not apparently understanding the basic rural concept of rights of way.
Anyhoo I'm tempted to say that's likely to get sorted out via a Darwin Award situation as equestrianism is a super risky activity at the best of times, add in the aforementioned loud bangs and... Well Dobbin doesn't like sudden, noisy surprises and doesn't react well.

Without wishing to be That Guy, I'd actively recommend against VFCs as while people demonstrably do get examples that (almost) work, they're notorious for needing work done on them. At that asking price, it's not a gamble I'd be willing to take when Double Eagles M9XX or Specna Arms Edge 2 guns offer more features, including quick-change springs and an actual fire control systems, right out of the box, for a lot less.

I can't speak to Arcturus, but I'd highlight that the recommended model above doesn't appear to be available from (e.g.) PatrolBase in the UK, and that brands can produce a wide range of quality, so it's not a blanket recommendation.

What I would stress is that airsoft QC is all over the place and you can get peaches and lemons within the same batch, let alone the same platform or manufacturer, so it's always a bit of a gamble. I never play up without a backup gun (or two, or three) in the car, so you might want to consider the £2xx DE/Edge 2 option, plus a magazine-compatible cheaper backup / loaner (Specna, Lancer Tactical, G36C with an M4 magwell adapter or similar) instead.

Most gats will lift 0.28s with the simple addition of a replacement hop rubber (typically Maple Leaf), and a replacement nub (typically an Omega).
My DE with those lifts 0.32s and pushed them out to nice ranges (over 50m)

I would recommend the newer Arcturus lines. They’re coming out with newer models that feature a collaboration with GATE, but right now the C.A.T. Series and ME series feature extremely solid gearboxes paired with great barrel groups. The externals are good quality, no creaking or cracking, but the star of the show are the reliable, simplistic, and extremely well performing internals. I’m a tech, and very familiar with these, so here’s my more detailed opinions and notes:

(I’m long-winded, so there’ll be a TL:DR at the end. Feel free to skip.)

The gearbox is the same on all the models from 170 to 400, but the externals go up in quality. The externals are easy to judge for yourself, so here’s my take on the internals.

The compression set is 100% good. Steel cylinder, CNC POM nozzle, and cylinder head with great seal.

The piston is bulletproof. It’s much tougher than almost all aftermarket pistons. I and another tech both use the stock pistons in DSGs doing 55+ RPS.

The gearset is ordinary, but solid. I use the stock gears in upgraded builds doing higher FPS and faster RPS.

The trigger unit is a microswitch paired with an inline 3034 MOSFET. This means you have 1,000,000 cycles with no issues, according to manufacturer specs, as well as a tactile “click” to the trigger. The design of the gearbox here does make it very difficult to install any aftermarket trigger units if you ever wanted to, so keep that in mind.

Arcturus has a steel QC spring guide that can be accessed just by removing the stock.

The motor is a mid-level neo motor that does about 30K, which means you’re hitting 20 RPS on 11.1v (M120 version, faster for the weaker versions) with great response. Don’t expect it to pull any M170s, but it’ll get the job done, and I’ve used them in tougher builds as well doing 25+.

The spring is Japanese tempered steel, and is of excellent quality. I tested four of these springs from an Arcturus rep, and got the exact same FPS from each, as well as ~1-2 FPS variance. No change over time, between a heavily used spring and ones right out of the packaging.

The gearbox is solid. Nothing special, except for the split GB shell on the CAT models, but it’s strong and easy to work on if anything should happen. Arcturus uses 8mm bushings for spur and sector, and 8mm bearings on the bevel.

The barrel group is very, very good out of the box. The hop unit is an ordinary plastic rotary, which works well. The hop rubber is a split design similar to those that Krytac uses. It does the job out to about 60 meters, but you may need an upgrade for farther distances.

The barrel is where it stands out, as Arcturus features a 6.02mm steel QPC coated barrel, which is excellent. It’s much better than ZCI and a lot of “upgraded” barrels.

They also come wired to deans with a high quality plug.

    Cons:

The only real con is that you’re prohibited from using any aftermarket electronic trigger units, and doesn’t feature an ETU built in. It’s a matter of preference whether you like your RIFs with computers built in, but Arcturus not allowing you an option (yet) is a con for sure.

TL:DR, the internals are great, super simple, and will allow you to keep up with players running far more expensive RIFs.

    Righty so.

In my experience it's horse riders who are the worst. We used to have them trying to ride through site on more than one occasion (despite there being no public right of way) at my old site and the riders couldn't understand how loud bangs and the horse potentially getting shot could ruin their day. It was only when threatened with us calling the police they would leave

It's fucking stupid of the marshal to do it and the site owner to even allow it. We play knowing we're going to get shot and staff understand the risks when entering the field, but the dog doesn't. Simply put the owner is a massive cockwomble (to put it mildly)and shouldn't be allowed to own pets.

There's also the fact that if the worst does happen and the dog gets hit, nobody knows how it will react. It could easily think it's being attacked and go for a player who might not even be the person who fired the shot.

Quite simply it shouldn't be happening and I for one would avoid any site which does allow it

Recently seen some photos / videos of a site where there is a dog in the game zone. It is wearing some eye protection and a high vis and walks around with the marshall who is the owner however what is everyone's opinions on it? As a dog owner I would never ever even think about putting my dog in any place of danger. Thing is marshalls are known to get hit by bbs on accident so it can easily happen to the dog and you never know there could be someone willing to hurt it. It's also hard to make sure that the eye protection stays on the dog 100% of the time.

Thinking about selling my much loved l85 as it doesn't see much use anymore now I have my omega,

    Has installed:
Maxx model hop with internal tracer
    Maxx titanium adjustable nozzle.
    Stainless Steel barrel
    Etu
11.1V 2600mAh battery (plus the black magic required to install it in such a small RIF)
    G&G susat

    Would include:
    S80 3 point sling
    4 NUPROL adjustable mags.
A number of random spare parts I have accumulated included a spare gearbox.

I'll attach fps when I get some .20s
I'll also record some night footage to show off the very bright tracer.

What do you guys recommend I should be asking for it?

Urban Assault was my first site, i went loads of times. Great site, terrible marshalling and SUPER cliquey/boys club shit but the building to building firefights made up for all of it.

Second place goes to the mall, terrible for airsoft in reality but it was so different and the people running it really put the effort in with the different game modes, always appreciated a silly one after a day of serious games (supermarket sweep!).

Now it's just woodland, can't find an indoor site anyway. im bored of the woods

When I did airsoft in Spain about 12 years ago, there was no such thing as an official site (at least not on the Costa del Sol). It was just a bunch of people who showed up to an area and played BB wars, as there were LOADS of abandoned urbanisations on the Costa del Sol, because they built them all without planning permission as holiday homes and stuff, but then had to stop when the authorities realised it was an illegal construction. Nobody was about to pay to demolish them, so they turned into our unofficial airsoft sites. There were a few "events" as such, I remember going to one up in the mountains near Monda and Ojen, but they were few and far between. Like, once a year or something.

That said, there was a small urbanisation we played on near Mijas, but I believe it was demolished after someone slipped and fell down the stairs, cracking their head open and had to be rushed to hospital. That was the main "site" we all went to (even if I thought the one in Estepona was way better!). Have a lot of good memories from there, it was like half woodland, half urban and it was really cool. There were some dark corridors on the lower levels, multi-level firefights and even a really dark and a cramped tunnel that nobody ever used (because it was really hard to actually move in) apart from about 5 of us which could take you behind the enemy lines.

Here are some low resolution photos I've dug up (hey, 1024x768 was the 1080p of 2008!)

The Mall and Urban Assault.  Urban Assault was just the perfect mix of buildings and open areas.  Only thing that let it down was the crap marshalling.  And the Mall, well if you need telling why the Mall was awesome then you aren't an airsofter

Site Name: Apocalypse Paintball and Airsoft
    Contact details: 01763 244855
    Website Address: Apocalypse Paintball
Facebook Page: Apocalypse Airsoft & Paintball | Facebook
Site Address: Old N Rd, Royston SG8 5JS

Desperate for a Bank Holiday Monday game and Driver Wood being a little too far for @Albiscuit we decided to go give Apocalypse Paintball and Airsoft a visit. This used to be run by RIFT Airsoft and was better known as "The Village". Not much has been written about the site since Apocalypse took back control to run the airsoft side themselves, so we were going in pretty much blind.

Apocalypse Airsoft is a very small Woodland site located south of Cambridge. It is rectangular shape with a small tail where the Safe Zone and Playing Area entrance is. There is a Tower/Church Area, Village, Fort and Tyre section. All can be seen from the centre of the site. There are many buildings, only the Fort and Tower have an extra story. Only the tower has a roof. There are lots of very tall trees and lots of extra low foliage along with barricades to help create cover. The site is very flat with no real elevation. Short/Medium/Long engagement distances are in play.

There were around 30+ players on the day. This site requires* the use of Bio BB's. No bangs are allowed as the site next to a Psychiatric hospital. Smoke only.

    Good:

Chrono: A mandatory chrono was in affect and result was noted against your registered name though no guns were marked.  AEG FPS limits are a 350FPS. DMR is 450 and Bolt actions are 500. Green Gas blowback pistols are not chronoed in the Winter.

Safe Zone: Is a fairly small safe zone which can cater for about 50-60 players. Picnic benches that were all under cover. The Shop and confectionary stands were all inside. It was a pretty nice safe zone. Protected from the elements. Toilets were just by the entrance.

Parking: A gravel track running up to the safe zone. So no long walks.

    Average:

Clientele: The Vast majority of the clientele were experienced Airsofters. Very few rentals. Everyone appeared to be over 18 and well into their 30's. The people we spoke to were quite friendly but kept to themselves within the safe zone. People did talk to each other during the gameplay though.

Game modes: We only played two game modes before going home. The first one was a small push back and flag waving game onto the Tower from the Village. Second was a more elaborate and interesting game trying to get ammo crates and box to a fort.

Toilets: Two Portaloo's, they were in OK condition.

Value: £25 for a skirmish, food not included. Bang average.

    Bad:

Playing area: On paper, the playing area appears to be very well equipped and should play quite well, but on the day it just didn't work out. The site is just too open.

There are plenty of low barricades, but not enough medium height vegetation. You can see from one end of the site to the other almost anywhere you stand. As a result it's very hard to push up on objectives without good team work and luck. The site is full auto almost all of the time and is detrimental to the playing area environment. It feels very much like just another paintball site that does Airsoft. The fort and village area is covered by stinging plants and I came away with lots of welts trying to crawl up to the objective without getting shot. It was almost perverse! There were trenches on parts of the site, but they were so shallow and surrounded by stinging plants that they were difficult to flank people in.

Safety Brief: Very short, didn't cover MED for snipers (Which resulted in a bad incident where someone left early). Delivered very flat. Catered towards experienced players rather then the rentals that may have needed more instruction.

Marshalling: Either Lackadaisical or non existent. One Head Marshal and two player Marshals. The Head Marshal seemed to not care that much. The player Marshals were no where to be seen; The one our side seemed determined to carry out the objective, but often went off and did his own solo thing without rallying the side together. He was never around to report things to. Complaints of non hit taking were at best not followed up or at worse laughed off.

Food: Almost non existent. Sweets, Crisps and Drink. No hot foot available on site. The website mentions you can pre order food beforehand but I saw no real mechanism for this.

Shop: Bio BB's and gas were for sale and precious little else.

Bio only BB: I have no issue with sites being Bio only, both myself and @Albiscuit bought our BB's from the shop before playing and they were of reasonable quality. However there were ZERO spot checks as to whether people were actually using Bio BB's. The player next to use was openly using non bio bb's as can be seen from his bottle. No point in having a very staunch and visible rule if you don't plan on checking up on it and enforcing it.

Turn Around Time: We didn't get many games in at all. Safety Brief was supposed to happen at 9:30AM, but didn't until gone 10. We were given a 5 minute warning to reload and get back out but waited over 20 minutes before anything happened.

Hit Taking: Flipping awful. Shooting long range and see bb's pinging off of people? Good luck, because softer hits seem to be completely ignored by almost everyone. Try shooting at people running full pelt and see the BB's pinging off? Guaranteed they wont take it. Shooting someone point blank and expect them to take it? Nah, they will just bring their rifle around and shoot you in response and claim it was 50/50.

The day has some of the most blatant non hit taking I have seen in Airsoft. It got so bad that we left early (I have only ever done this once before at an Airsoft Skirmish and it was @Albiscuit first time leaving early ever). Many other people were complaining about hit taking which got progressively worse as the day went on and we were certainly not the only people to leave early due to it. It was just pointless trying to carry on.

The Marshal's either weren't around to complain to, or did nothing when we did. One kid was getting so frustrated he told me he was going to put in a 420 FPS spring in his Full Auto enabled rifle for the next game. Mentioned it to a Marshal who just laughed it off.

    Conclusion:

This was the worst Airsoft Skirmish I have been to since Tactical Airsoft in Croydon 4-5 years ago. Which had almost identical issues. Hit taking is optional. Full Auto required to get anywhere and non existent Marshalling. Considering how experienced the clientele seemed to be I was surprised how bad it was (I played Ultimate Wargames in Kent two days previous to this visit where 90% of players were under the age of 18 and took almost all their hits and are an absolute credit to the hobby!).

It's a real shame how it turned out. The Playing area looks good on paper but the layout just doesn't seem to work. It could be improved upon by increasing the quantity and quality of the barriers. The Stinging nettles could be cut back. The trenches need to be re-dug to be deeper. Full auto should be banned to help have a better chance at pushing up.

The marshals need to be more pro-active in stamping out hit taking.

So yeah... Not great! There are far better sites that you can go to.

Had this a few years now.  No idea of the economy as it's a work vehicle, so just filled up and forgotten.  Pretty good for airsoft as the glass is bulletproof and it's 4x4.  Base vehicle is a Merc.

I've been overseas in at a fair bit, but usually I just use it for popping down to the shops for a few bottles of red and some wafers.  It's really comfy tbh.

There's a lot of sense spoken here. Yes we should be careful as any small group can be portrayed as guilty of wrongthink in the febrile clickbait climate nowadays.
That said I'm on the verge of old fartdom now, but I was bought up with the general sentiment that you don't wear badges and insignia you're not entitled to.
I take it a stage further and to make sure I absolutely can not be mistaken for a walt pretending to be a real soldier I wear a deliberate mismatch of different camo patterns. (Anyway it breaks up my silhouette. Or something).
My first thought about Z or Wagner insignia is that while we should aspire to live in a free-er and more tolerant country I would enjoy shooting at that.
I have seen someone in Waffen SS get up but as he didn't have badges as I remember I guess it was okay. My half German nephew raised his eyebrows mind you. I mean if you've got an Stg44 you absolutely must accessorise with I suppose I sort of understand.
But frankly I find the lack of historical knowledge and nuance of Gen Z pretty frustrating, one game and we had to grab various flags and once we had the German flag the lad with it was all like "I've got the nazi flag!" He was serious, it was the flag of the modern Bundesrepublik Deutschland and I don't think he understood why I was upset.
It's not so much that they're edgelords or dickheads I suspect, but rather that a lot of what we're talking about here can be laid at the door of a simplistic education in history and civics (or lack thereof) in recent decades.
