  1. Just had a brilliant day of airsofting at over the top (OTT) on Anglesey. Took my lad and 2 mates. 10 till 3pm. 120 acres of woodland, and scrubland. Few bunkers and buildings scattered about. Smallish group of about a dozen or so. Got absolutely destroyed by a couple of young teenagers and their dad in Gillies. Covered in welts and splinters. Really nice marshall/owner. All the players were super friendly. Lots of different games and teams regularly swapped about. Highly recommend the place. We will be going back again soon. Half the travel to our other site in Chester. Got given some great advice about setting our hop ups and tactics. My new krinkov performed great, but it's bloody noisy. 😆 Pissed thru BBS, almost 3 full tubs between us. I liked just sitting in a nice warm comfy sneaky place and waiting for my victims to come to me. A successful day, and our best so far.

  2. As is so often the case, a rather dull Sunday morning saw the omniphagus Volvo conveying me to Airsoft Plantation in the rather curious county of Essex. 180 players were present, with an unusually high percentage being either first time visitors to the site or new to airsoft; nobody that I usually team up with was present. I started the day by checking the setup of the ASG FLCN 5.56 that was an impulse buy when I dropped into JD Airsoft a couple of weeks ago, while in Cannock doing lights for a festival which featured possibly the last appearance of the band that I have worked with for a quarter of a century. All that I had done was to replace the hop rubber and nub and the spring. Over a measured 70m distance with the hop set for perfect flight it was putting out 1.03J; lovely! The first game required the Blue team, who started on the firebreak, to get two players onto the upper floors of the five two storey buildings in the village; they had infinite regens on the firebreak, while we had two lives. I started off in the two storey building by the now dried up pond, which soon became rather lively as the enemy attacked directly from the firebreak and flanked around past the border. After some great fights and several very satisfying hits, a BB found me and I moved back to the woods to help defend the sniper tower and the town hall against blue players who had flanked right around the far end of the site. We had a great time stalking each other in the woods and, in our case, providing flanking fire against attacks against the sniper tower. The game timed out with the Blues having taken two of the required buildings. The game was then turned around and I joined a group who were attacking via the suburbs; we pushed into the village and, after a hard fight, took the two storey buildings at that end of the village, getting the requisite two players onto the upper floors of each. Our colleagues attacking from other directions had similar success and we occupied all of the buildings with 45 seconds left on the clock. 1-0 to the Reds Having reloaded, it was time for the briefing for the next game; before this, the site owner gave a very stiff talk about hit taking. I had not noticed any problems, with everyone that I thought I hit raising their hand and walking off, but it seems that there had been an unusually high number of complaints about it. We were informed that anyone found not taking their hits would be required to leave. Fair enough! The next game required us to transfer three bombs in a box to three locations in the mortar pits and set them off; the box required two people to carry it and the bombs could only be transported in the box. We had infinite regens on a marshal, while the defenders had two lives. Leaving the DEA base, we ran into a fierce resistance that initially brought us to a halt, but we found a way through and delivered our bombs to the bridge, the tunnels and, finally, the Bedford. When this game was turned around, a group of us initially took up a position in the Hill Fort, from where we slowed the enemy's attack. Eventually being hit, I fell back to the cover of a large berm from which I was able to pick off some of the enemy now occupying the Hill Fort. There was then a shout that the enemy were attacking in strength on our far left; a group of us ran over to help the defenders, who were trying to repel an attack along the flanking berm on that side; I hit several of the attackers before eventually being hit just as the game ended. The enemy did not bomb all their targets. 2-0 to the Reds Lunch followed, immediately after which we played a short game; starting at the bus in the mortar pits, we were given a 60 second head start to run and take up positions anywhere on that side of the firebreak. The Blues had to hunt us down and kill as many of us as they could in ten minutes. We had one life, while they had infinite regens. Having run away as fast as we could, a group of us took up a number of positions in the scrubland, potting attackers as we slowly fell back to the far end of the site, where we met up with others, including all of our ghillies, to make a stand. When the game ended, 45 of our team had been killed. In the return of this game, we set out rapidly after the retreating blue team, trying to to hunt them down before they could get organised, which we didn't quite manage to do; nevertheless, we managed to kill 55 of them. 3-0 to the Reds For the final game, starting at the border, the blue team had to transport a very large bag of Bob Marley's favourite recreational substance to the Cock Inn in the village, where they could exchange it for a suitcase full of Colombia's finest, which they then had to get into the Cessna. They had infinite buddy regens, while we had one life in the village and two on the other side of the firebreak. My involvement in the first part of this was somewhat limited as a BB skimmed the brim of my boonie, sending me trudging off to the other side of the firebreak, where I set myself up in the Hill Fort, being joined by a few colleagues. We waited for quite a while for the Blue team to complete their transaction in the village; once they had, it became apparent that they were not heading in our direction, so most of us set off for the area around the Cessna, where a disjointed but fierce set of fights ensued as the attackers tried to get the suitcase into it. Lurking behind the rather overgrown biplane, I took out a fair few attackers before the game ended with them failing to achieve their objective. 4-0 to the Reds From my perspective, it was a thoroughly enjoyable day of airsoft; I did not encounter any hit taking issues, despite the concerns that some players seemed to have. 4. Just had a great afternoon at Blackstone. There was a good mix of regular and new players and it was good to seethe newbies getting stuck in rather than hanging back. Games on the whole went well despite one player on the red team who was a little reluctant to take his hits. The marshals dealt with it though and after he'd been spoken to suddenly started making excuses about needing to go. Why someone would think they can get away with cheating at a site where engagement ranges are measured in feet and everyone is wearing numbered armbands is beyond me but meh, sod him. After he went I didn't see or hear of any hit taking problems.

  12. yeah my meaning was that if you've got the skills and equipment to put together the em2 then that could translate to for example making a lebel shaped wrapping for a vsr or that kind of thing. but that would make every project different with presumably its own challenges.

  16. When the idea first crossed my mind building a shell around an existing AEG was the idea, like the Aliens rifle around a Thompson. But the EM-2's unique shape rearwards of the mag well meant nothing would really fit. Weirdly the closest was the Real Sword type 97! 🙃with a SVU as runner up. (searching... found it!) Doing it again, completely from scratch, is not going to be done by me. Maybe a company that already makes specialised CNC parts? with an Airsoft enthusiast boss? That was my thought too, though not in relation to the EM-2 which I have to admit is a real outlier. On the other hand, how many years did we wait for a Bren LMG? especially after someone had already produced a ZB-26! I've never really understood why manufacturers choose the models they do. Got me thinking about a 'shell' of a Browning Hi-Power that would fit over any type of reliable gbb pistol! I would definitely go for one of those 😄

  17. I have my MP7 set up with that exact same handguard and foregrip, funnily enough. They're plenty grippy for a mildly damp day. Not sure if you're planning to join the SBS and become a frogman or something.

  18. there might be a model, maybe a commission basis kind of thing especially if you're game to build whatever gun the client wants rather than specifically an em2, that way the market becomes "anyone who'd buy a custom gun for £££" rather than "people who'd buy a custom em2 for £££" ofc that would involve every project pressing the reset button on all the design and development work, so the hours involved in that are going to up the bill and you might not want to go through it again, but it might also mean being able to take shortcuts if the particular order can use modified doner(s) rather than an entire scratch build.

Hello Selling to justify another purchase. Iv had this for quite a while. Was recently upgraded by negative. Can't remember exactly what he done, but it cost a pretty penny. Aster MOSFET and upgraded gears is all I can remember. Although it does need a new hop rubber I think as the accuracy isn't great. Heavy weathering finish. Contents, gun, 4x mid caps. Free postage

  20. The first step would be to work out what it would cost you to build, rolling in the lessons learned from making your first one. I suspect that that cost would be pretty steep, and unfortunately the market will probably be smaller than it appears. The number of people who will say they'd pay £££ for a high quality unicorn and the number of people who would actually follow through when the time comes wont be the same. That isnt to say you shouldnt do it, because it is cool af and looks like you're making a proper quality product. I am absolutely here for anything that dilutes the pool of ar derivatives.

Designed and 3D printed these ADAR handguards a few years back using wood filled filaments, they are then stained and given a distressed look to mimic the one from Tarkov. Here's a Reddit thread on it and an imgur album for the build steps. The 3D files can be found on the reddit thread if you're interested.

  24. Discords as a voice/text chat are great; and the pinned posts can be useful for sharing important info and context. Threads are wonderful for splitting up related but separate conversations. But good grief are they awful at sharing infomation like guides, or set up instructions, or what forums are used for!

  25. Well, the thing is you might be - some of the groups have some great info/contributors, just the platform sucks. Would be great if all those people would join up to the forum. In case it wasn't becoming self-evident, yes I am petulantly demanding everyone use the internet the way I want...

  27. As someone who remembers the IRC and Forum heyday, you just described an awful lot of old forums ngl. Some sites you could have a page of discussion fly through a thread between starting and ending your post. Plus all the etiquette like never double posting, giving fully paragraphed answers to things that aren't as relevant now because, well, forums are a shadow of what they were sadly. I find Discord useful for getting answers to questions but I definitely find a lot of servers a bit too high tempo to keep up with. Better organised ones can have things like slowmode channels for preventing inane prattering, and much like the old forum days, the quality lives and dies on how diligent the mods are about actually enforcing the rules.

  30. Using 2 pistols together looks tacticool but tbh is more hassle than it's worth as inevitably you end up firing both guns at the same target but with badly aimed shots and then there's the issue of reloading. By all means let him give it a go bit I wouldn't be surprised if he decides it's not worth it after a short time

  31. Bear in mind that I’m an interloper on here, with my real world being paintball and that airsoft is an aside, so don’t be distracted by my HPA which is the right way for the ‘serious’ paintballer (noting that I reverted that pistol to 12 gram CO2 keeping the HPA mod for specific uses) In airsoft the defaults will be battery and green gas etc. Only go to HPA when it is truely justified for that gun - it could bring more problems depending on site to ensure that you can get HPA fills Other than there often being less understanding of HPA in airsoft (or deliberate ‘ignorance’ to exploit bypassing regular locks etc) it’s a backward step to tether a RIF to an airline with a bottle on your back

  36. Oh don't get me wrong, there's a lot to learn, but BF, Hop, and GT are all there to keep that consumer industry churning in the US. Just constantly buying new guns, buying new parts for those guns, cycling through built-up and stripped-down builds, etc, etc. Watching Guntubers buy and sell LPVOs and Dot+Mag combos like 5 times round as the discourse goes back and forth between the two gets aggravating and I think Airsofters don't need to worry about like 99% of what they talk about. Stuff about concealment, moving quietly through terrain, and observation are useful if you're on a large site/MilSim though. Getting serious about gear is especially fun for MilSims.

  37. Visited Finmere Airsoft for the first time this weekend to take part in one of their Chaos and Control days, a long objective lead day rather than your usual skirmish. Milsim-lite I guess you could call it. First notable point before the day of the event even came around was the great communication with the organisers. I posted a quick question via their ‘Contact Us’ link but got a swift answer and then welcome into their larger WhatsApp group to discuss game day specifics or ask for technical help. Even got sent a PDF with the game objectives and rules, site map and walkthrough video in advance of the day so everyone should know what they are doing. Really well organised and not something I’ve seen before. Arrived at the site an a rainy Sunday morning. The site itself is a fairly typical woodland affair with a long central access road bisecting it into two distinct halves. Safe zone is right in the centre, they have a mix of seating and tables, most undercover from the worst of the elements. Small tuck shop, supplies and a lone portaloo which was remarkably clean. Game area features some nice set pieces like a prop submarine, crashed airplane and some other abstract structures that could really be anything. Gameplay for the day were two 2-hour long domination rounds with five control points spread around the map for capture and control. Capture involved the usual flag raising plus starting your team’s stopwatch at the control point to start accumulating points. Each team’s spawn had an area map that you could mark POIs on and a radio. The radio allowed you to get in contact with the ‘drone operator’ to get intel and/or call in airstrikes or chemical weapons on certain positions. I’m guessing this isn’t anything new but it was the first time I’ve played anything like this and I had a great time playing Battlefield Commander with my rifle propped up in the corner of spawn and picking places on the map to drop imaginary ordinance. Another new one for me was their dead rule. You get 3 lives with the first 2 hits requiring you to be revived, but whilst injured you are allowed (and expected) to call out info to your team. Creates an interesting dynamic where a downed man can sometimes be the pivotal part of a firefight as he calls out enemy movements to the survivors. On your 3rd hit you are fully dead, then it’s the usual silent walk back to spawn. Other notable points of the day were zero moaning or bitching about hit calling, randoms happy to and actively looking to team up to do objectives, everyone generally very laid back and some guy brought a bag full of apples from his garden. All in all a great addition to our roster of local sites so will be going there again soon.

  38. Don't threaten me with a good time! But I do agree that some real-steel shooting practices do work well in airsoft, while others (most of them) very much do not; some do work with a bit of modification though. I've got some legacy US military sniper handbooks and training aids, obviously not up to date, but from the 80s - 2000s, that have really helped me in my chosen way of playing airsoft. I find a lot of fun from adopting and adapting (where needed/possible) real-steel firearms practices into airsoft, without going to a silly degree where I'm spending thousands of pounds on high quality scopes, night vision, thermals, ways to combat night vision and thermals, and ten years supply of baked beans for my off-grid cabin in the woods. I might try and put together a DOPE card for my sniper rifle, though with airsoft and how wonky our rifles shoot by comparison to real-steel, it'd be more of a "rough estimate" than the exact readings you'd have on a real firearm. All that said, I do try and set up my gear to be as realistic as possible; such is the curse of being a filmsim immersion nerd. Proper number of mags set up in the right way, comms, observation kit (binoculars, rangefinder, and I want to get a wind speed reader) sustainment kit (food/water), and the airsoft essentials like BBs and gas that allow me to play uninterrupted for an entire day without needing to head back to the safe zone, or even to respawn outside of when I get shot. I carry all my kit on me, and more often than not I find myself reloading in the field as the way I play revolves around not getting shot, so I'll often fall back if spotted rather than risk getting taken out in an unfavourable firefight, or my position getting grenaded or sprayed with full-auto And if you want some very good, but very old sniper youtube videos, this was the channel that properly got me into ghillie sniping 18 years ago. None of this KM drama bollocks, just some good old fashioned sniping, the way it's meant to be done! https://www.youtube.com/@6mmhunters/featured

  40. Fuck knows honestly. He's always had that trick of just starting shit, getting a response, then editing around it so the other people look mental. It's an old trick. He does start that video saying he's brought his, "most painful gun". Another channel to shout out is Gun Gamers btw. More MilSim/LARP focused but a good bit about gear setups and the like. Generally seem to have good vibes as well. I'll say that you can learn a bit from firearms channels like Hop, Brass Facts, or Garand Thumb, but there's not much crossover in practice. Airsoft is basically simulating the most close-up form of fighting possible where everyone's within 50m like it's a Ukrainian trench raid. A lot of American firearms advice is how to maximise your paranoid schizophrenia level so you can convince yourself there's a civil war, retreat to the deep forests, and die of dysentery eating beans and MREs.

  41. Not so much tactics but Bodgeups did some good videos showing what sniping is like in airsoft. All his videos are a few years old now though ad he gave up on the whole YouTube thing. I won't go into detail but his headshots aren't the worst thing he does. I would say he's a cunt but I don't think he's got the warmth, depth or ability to provide pleasure. With airsoft on YouTube you need to remember that 99% of videos are very heavily edited to make the player look far better than they actually are

  44. My airsoft day, possibly the last of the year with the hopefully notable Santa vs Elves at RedAlret, was at the Dragons Lair. After getting a decent start to the prolonged journey (no c2c service from central out to the sticks) we managed to get to site early-ish (840) and started to bomb up, its quiet though, we normally arrive closer to 920 so thought maybe everyone does to. Nope Didn't happen Ray comes round and let's us know there is not enough players for the day. It's called and we all start packing up. So after spaffing the travel costs, I do look at transporting myself and the kid to Billericay but cabs being cabs, and our mood already sour we turned homeward. And played video games instead. It's frustrating, Dragons Lair has its faults sure, but its not a bad site, rules are strict in the safezone and enforced. They are putting work in to improve the games zone. It is also accessible from east london (on public transport), in ways Billericay and plantation are not.
