  2. Thnaks for the advice all - much appreciated!! Decisions were made on friday eveing- cash was parted with and we played a full day at our local skirmish site Saturday! Both son and I happy with purchases made! I went with a Nuprol Delta Recon with long barrel with 2 high cap mags, son chose a JG MP5 with rectraclebe stock that came with 1 x high cap mag and we got him a spare and once we had a few niggles sorted both preformed very well! Had a great day and got some hits in (took quite a few though to be fair) ?

  5. Over a year ago my youngest son spent his own money on a used AKM being sold by a local shop's staff member, which on paper looked sweet, however it was very unreliable with the Perun optical controller just craping out every few shots. Finally bad Dad has sorted it out and installed a GATE Titan v3 and a 27k Warhead brushless motor, with it now running very well (especially on full auto). With it having now been worked on by me I've taken a few photos that were interesting and have a few questions for others. When he first bought it and when it did work, for the first few shots, it had great range and consistency and a few things probably helped this in that there's a 3D printed block keeping the hop unit steady, the inner barrel has PTFE tape wrapped around it, and there's also a sliver of a tin can and masking tape below the inner barrel at the front of the receiver (all of which I suppose kept things very much in-place). Is this all a smart thing to do with an AKM? It's no specific brand either, it's very much a mongrel. The gearbox is CYMA, and like a boneyard CYMA MP5K I sorted out there was this awful thick green grease in it which I had to clean out. The receiver and wooden furniture is a bit of a mystery, I've no idea where the wooden furniture is from, however the receiver says on the bottom it's APS and the front left of the receiver has painted Russian symbols and numbers.

  6. Retailer and site = same owners, they were happy that we had played at their site already (renter's) and booked to play again this weekend just gone! As long as they are happy they have covered themselves as the ukara is only a defense for the retailer then we were happy to spend money with them and support a local business rather than buying on-line ? every ones happy and we have nice pew pews ??

    Another big name gone

One of the first forums I joined twenty odd years ago when I started. Lasted longer than many of the others.

  8. Yeah it is a shame. I've seen lots of forums gonover the years. Some were still a hive of activity. UKAZ & zeroin were the other places to be. But UKAZ disappeared no warning. And zeroin how knows... Other than this forum, only leaves a few small ones. And the big American forum went last year too. For me it's a shame. As I always find the forums far easier to navigate and find threads. Without having to scroll past hundreds of posts. When fb started banning groups, I was really shocked that the forums didn't take off again.

  9. When comparing similarly priced models from the same brand then the differences are only really cosmetic. As for fps, while 310 may seem quite low it really isn't and besides that higher fps doesn't equal better performance. Ammo weight and a correctly set hop up have far more influence on performance. Just look at Tokyo Mauri guns, they come out of the box doing 280 fps but will happily out range many other brands with higher muzzle energy. Another reason not to chase fps limits is that if the site chrono puts you over then you won't be able to use it Evil are a US based shop. Any "review" by someone saying that they're admitting it's more of a paid advert rather than a review

  11. Boom arms is basically a guy running a shop out of his flat in HK. So he’s inundated with messages, emails and all the admin of running a shop. He’s only human and misses the odd email and gets a few orders wrong from time to time. in my experience, he always makes it right. I did a massive order with him last year, and he got it wrong to the tune of $300. It took him about 3 months to source the parts (as they’d all sold out by the time we agreed a resolution), but he made good on all the stuff he’d got wrong. i suspect he’s made a typo on the tracking number or he’s holding out for the last item in your order to come in stock.

Because it would be horrifically complicated and likely to break? Yes it would be great but would you rather have a functioning gun or a broken wall hanger?

  14. I've had an S&T Sterling for about 6 years now. The thing thrives on neglect. It gets regular hard use with minimal maintenance and it just won't stop. I would definitely get another S&T product.

Bought this bad boy, off here, last week. It's an ICS AK74M. It's currently in pieces while I'm sorting out a feeding issue after upgrading the piston set.

  17. I wouldn't trust the 99% ofairsoft youtubers to be able to tie their own shoelaces, let alone give an honest and unbiased review. Many of them are sponsored and it's not in their interests to give a bad review

I've finally sorted out my son's AK that he's had for well over year, which I now understand is an AKM? It didn't come with a mag, so the one I've bought may not be historically accurate, and the small tube at the bottom is missing (I've no idea what it's called). It's a mongrel with a CYMA gearbox but an APS receiver and possibly the rest of it as well, and now a GATE Titan and a Warhead brushless 27k and half a day of my sweat a tears (I must do a full post on it as AK aficionados may find it interesting)...

  22. For high caps buy Lonex Flash mags. Best high capacity M4 magazine out there, fits and feeds on most M4s even at 30+ RPS, pulling the cord makes more noise than winding the wheel but you only need to do it once, maybe twice, for the whole 360 rounds. Midcaps are okay if you don't use full auto (or can't due to site rules) but generally they end up being more expensive, especially when you look into quality mags and a proper Odin speedloader. I almost exclusively run the aforementioned Lonex high caps, have yet to hear the infamous battle rattle unless I'm vigorously shaking the gun or I'm tumbling down a hill like a sack of shit (thankfully the latter hasn't happened.....yet), also if I'm sprinting somewhere it means that stealth has already gone to hell and the tiny bit of extra noise isn't going to make things any worse. But I do understand the "realism" aspect of changing magazines more often. Also keep in mind that 200+ round midcaps require a REALLY good speedloader (genuine Odin, or one of those newer electric ones) and that once you get past the 150rnd mark you start experiencing heavy midcap syndrome.

  25. You could argue the toss back and forth, however as Patrol Base finally have these back in stock... https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/emg-230rnd-daniel-defense-mid-cap-magazine-for-m4-ar-15-6-pack ... I'd just buy a pack and that's you and your wife sorted for a very good price?

  26. I enjoy reloading, as weird as that may sound. With my AEG I run 7 90 rnd midcaps and that usually lasts me a whole day. It really depends on your play style. Even when I got my nephew into Airsoft I gave him midcaps locked to a realistic 30 shots to ensure he didn't get used to playing at a distance and spraying and encouraging him to get closer and make his shots count.
