    Gun picture thread

Just taking a few pics of everything in the collection to catagolize it, so I'll join with that AK GHK AKMs with steel outer, steel trigger unit parts, recoil kit, steel hopup unit, steel LCT PBS-1, Ra-Tech wood grip, a bunch of GHK mags and 2 ProWin mags (which must be the most stupid design for a 3rd-party mag-rebuild ever, you cannot fill them with gas without a fairly long adapter piece for the gas bottle )

I do love GBBRs 🙂 Details of the M4 builds can be found in the MWS mega thread... Same AK as above, but with suppressor and 5.56/.223-style mag...

  3. Yo it's-a me, Skara! Just picked up this gun as a replacement for my striker. I like it a lot, super balanced, lightweight, bolt pull is a million light years ahead of the striker, mags are tiny and hold 50 rounds, I like the trigger design with the sear that rotates instead of being pulled down, makes for a very crisp trigger pull. My plan for this gun was to replace the piston with an airbraked one (stock polymer piston is fine for 1J but I want it silent), fit a sorbo, change the hop rubber, install a TDC and give it a bit of an internal suppression using a shorter inner barrel while filling the outer with foam and/or other sound dampening materials. This is where it went wrong, somehow: At first, the cylinder head was an utter cunt to remove, managed to do it without ruining it too much, sorbo installed and it is a smidge quieter, the stock has been filled with foam and cotton wool in every void possible apart from the fake magazine well as I need to come up with a more clever solution for that. My biggest issue is now the hop up. The chamber itself isn't bad, it's the standard TM style chamber but there are two main differences: - The adjustment system now has notches in which a sprung loaded ball bearing slots into, effectively locking the adjustment in the position you leave it; - The hop arm has an integrated concave tensioner, great for R-Hop/Maple Leaf rubbers on paper. Now, the hop is on-off for me, it either doesn't lift anything or it straight up jams. I thought it was the hop rubber being not-so-great, so I replaced it with a trusty Maple Leaf MR-Hop... Now one would expect to be able to lift rocks, but nope it still does the same, nothing-nothing-nothing-jam. Trying to find the cause of this issue at the moment, but if we analize what actually happens inside an airsoft springer (AEGs even, it's the same thing): -The piston compresses the air inside the cylinder -The air inside the cylinder escapes through the nozzle -The nozzle is (supposedly) sealed in the hop rubber -The air coming out of the nozzle pushes the BB under the hop rubber's contact patch, giving it backsping -BB leaves the barrel Between these steps, something goes Chernobyl levels of wrong 😕 but for the life of me I can't figure it out Any input?

  4. So heres some real steel context, from someone whos worked on a top tier range for the last several years. Dots are certainly faster. Dots work in any light. If you have good recoil control dots can allow for faster follow-up shots. The main issue you have Kasaran is how far forward your dot is. Thats just going to exponentially increase your dot's sway. Now, for airsoft theyre... less important. Yes, you can still find a sight picture faster than irons. Yes, they still work in the dark. But if you can't control the recoil of your gun in airsoft then go back to nerf haha. Plus, the only real use for a pistol in the military is for someone like a sniper with a long gun whos going close range (same with MEDs), or for when you run out of ammo in your primary (more difficult in the world of midcaps and high caps). Finally people tend to spam-fire in airsoft anyway, not even giving themselves time to reacquire the sights after a shot. I personally have dots on two of my many pistols: my TM G18 that I use as a dryfire/training gun more than a skirmish gun, and my mk23. It usually stays in my pack at MilSims with a lot of indoor play, as I like to find a dark corner and essentially assassinate people with the silenced mk23, and the dot helps me make sure my first round is going to be at least aimed properly. So they arent really all that useful in airsoft compared to the real world. Oh, and while many militaries shy away from dots due to much harsher conditions for their guns and gear, many LEO forces are going to them. Probably 2/3 LEO members that come through our school have dot guns now, and are either in the process of transitioning themselves or their department over to them. Its easier to teach "put dot on target" than " make sure this post is centered between these two posts, and then make sure the top of that post is even with those two posts. Dots also make longer-range shots much easier. We ran a new course this past Fall that we told our SEAL instructors to make as an "Advanced Operators" course (pretty much meant: "go crazy, we dont even want yall to be able to clear this course), and on long range (25 & 50 yrds) distances the guys using dots statistically scored a fair bit high both on shot accuracy and number of shots on target in the timed scenarios.

  5. As has been previously said. The issue is less the sight and more your lack of ability with it. I have spent the last week with my pistol randomly practicing and getting the muscle memory. Now when i pick up my pistol and sight it.. Boom, there is the dot... I am not sure yet if i prefer it to the irons, but I know it will be more useful to me in games once I have made the full mental move.

  6. I got back into airsoft 'properly' at the tail end of 2019 to try and ease a creeping feeling of isolation following relocating for work, little did I know that'd become a theme in 2020. It certainly hasn't been the year I'd hoped for, but I want to take a moment to thank those of you I've had interactions with on here. It may not be much, but it's helped me not go entirely insane. I don't really buy into that our calendar means much of anything when it comes to new years rolling round, but here's hoping things become a bit more enjoyable over the next few months.

  7. A while ago I bought a tm recoil ak that was nearly brand new. I really liked it. It was well made, the recoil felt nice and it shot great. However I found myself feeling that what I was getting wasnt worth the price tag so I sold it. Since then I have been biding my time and waiting for a broken tm recoil to come up for sale as Im confident working on aegs and I still really like them. So I recently picked up a tm recoil scar l with a full compliment of mags and a few issues with the blowback unit. ive fixed it to my satisfaction and im very happy with it.

    THE TM MWS thread

woah woah woah hold up there, a stock TM MWS with green gas will struggle at 0°C and it's unavoidable. This kind of freezing weather is simply out of the effective operating temperature range of green gas. The chart below says that Green gas/Nuprol 2.0 at 10°C will have a pressure of 5.6 bar/81 PSI which is really weak already, even Nuprol 1.0 says that it operates at 8 bar/115PSI, at it's optimal temperature. I get around 1 magazine of "full power" shots out my a single mag fully gassed up with green gas at a temperature of 9°C. My first shot clocks in at 89m/s (281fps) and my last few end up around 79m/s (256fps) and there is a very significant difference in feel and sound between those first and last shots too. The first 10-15 shots are very consistent, but then the magazine starts to get cold as shit and the fps dips by 1m/s every other shot. Also bear in mind my magazines are the newer versions which supposedly don't require the green gas mod. The saving grace here is that you can simply run higher pressure gas such as red (nuprol 3.0) at these kinds of temperatures. Red/Nuprol 3.0 at 10 degrees will have a pressure of 7.7 bar which is perfectly acceptable for an MWS, and if you're at sub 0 temperatures, black gas is likely your only option or HPA tapped magazines, but lets be honest we're using GBBRs so we DONT have to carry around a damn air tank so that's not an option 😁 Also, you can simply get a light weight/aluminium bolt to improve your gas efficiency in cold weather. There are quite a few options out there too.
