  1. Just looking to see if anyone knows of any pistol/rifle 'drills' that you can do with RIFs in a smaller space such as a garden.  Have a few already here but looking to see if people have some others they wouldn't mind sharing? I dont mean things that help increase accuracy etc just little 'mini games' almost like these.image.thumb.png.c80a5951ea9a64cf217f97d2bb91c2b9.png

    Thanks

  2. Got the Cyma thompson and love it. Use it when playing outdoor if the weathers absolutely shit or if the barrel falls off my CM16. Its great for what it is and is even more accurate than both mine and my friends CM16s which was surprising. I was lucky and got it off TG really cheap last year, but well worth the money. Its been battered around, dropped and covered in mud and still works perfectly, although it does have a habit of shooting two or three BBs even when in single shot if it gets a bit too wet.

  3. As others have said best bet is if on your own just use youtube for basics or get a few friends and have a dry run of the basics together (obviously without RIFs). You'd be surprised how much you can learn without needing to use your RIF, just learning simple communications & movements with friends will do you good.  I'd be weary of the courses as often times as others have said its someone who doesn't know anymore than you, its just they've watched Black Hawk Down a few more times, have thrown in a military sounding title and some black cammies > voila, tactical airsoft advisor.

Edit - If you have friends with pistols and a garden that people can't peer into/neighbours that have been informed etc you can do some quite fun pistol drills at home. Example being get a youtube video such as this, colour code targets and give specific drills to specific numbers IE 1 > fire 1 bb & reload, 2 dont fire, 3 > shoot 2 bbs. If youve got some friends with you it makes a good competition, we just use folding garden chairs as the targets and stack them against a bench.

Another fun one is write up some random colours, stick 8 in a circle on 2 sticks then have your back turned and have a friend call out a colour target, you have to turn, scan and shoot the right one ( can do a trick call and say a colour which isnt there). Again fun little competition.

I usually find drills on this youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ePrwAQ4GQmY&t=620s&ab_channel=GunTalkMedia, no idea if there is a drill in the video but they usually have SWAT/Rangers [insert US military branch here] on there walking civilians through CQB tactics with different firearms.

Calling your opponents' hits. I play in woodland where hiding behind a bush can be very effective cover, but the loudest mouths are always powered by the smallest brains and there's always some numbskull that wants to cry cheater at the top of his lungs because he's seeing his bb's bounce off the leaves in front of me and thinks he's chris kyle. I'm sitting there behind my bush wearing nothing but trousers and a t shirt, how would I survive not calling it if I was getting hit?

Its when you hear the "5.56 would have torn through those leaves!" yes but we're not playing with real ammo are we otherwise I think there wouldnt be an issue with the hit calling 😂

Bane of a marshals day is trying to get people to move for the next game. Tell them with plenty of notice to bomb up at lunch half of the players loading up during the next brief. Need a wavier so we can use cattle prods to get late players shifted.

One of the marshalls at Bristol has a shame bell on their phone that they use, if you're still faffing when its brief time then shame on you...

late starts piss me off too. I get up early on a Sunday to travel into the countryside to then have to sit around for over an hour as the safety brief isn’t until 10am even through the website said arrive by 8.30. What’s that all about!!

Yep had it a few times where we'll turn up at 8am as advised, then first game starts at 11:30...............

  7. Why people need in excess of 1 hour for a lunch break at a game day.

Adult players who get angry when younger/new players are confused or maybe staying a little behind so they dont get hit as much. I don't get what they gain from shouting at these newer players to push up while they themselves, in all their gucci gear, are the furthest back.

But most of all, people who pre-fire the hell out of CQB like its CSGO. Pet hate of mine, don't understand what they really gain from it other than looking like a knob and using a load of ammo/gas. Luckily it seems to be mostly a stateside thing, along with their bang bang rule.

  8. CQB Yes as I really enjoy using my pistol (KJW M9 GBB) and dreamed of owning it for about 5 years, so any chance to use it is a yes yes yes. I dont think it provides too much advantage over anyone using a cqb rifle setup, if any but it does feel awfully nice :D especially when reloading (even though 90% of the time my 'tac' reload involves me fiddling about trying to open the velcro, and put the mag in for what seems an eternity)

Played a game many moons ago where we only had X number of ’real’ and low cap mags between each team(there was only 18 of us there) you could reload them BUT you had to take and hold one of three ammo dumps around the site to do so then once the mags where reloaded you had to Frank boff out of it . The game started out with the ammo dumps closed and you had to complete tasks to activate them , has to be said was bloody good fun !

That sounds absolutely amazing so props to whoever came up with it, definitely adds a unique dynamic to a game.

  10. Thank you both, you've been incredibly helpful. Personally I'm quite interested in the ham stuff as I know my grandad is also. I've signed up for the 3 week Essex ham course so I can learn what's required to pass the amateur exam and get the 27 pound license, so that shouldn't be an issue. I think I might go for the 8w version as mountain biking we do get quite split up if it's a longer trail with everyone going at their own pace. Just got to convince my friends to get it now and do the course so they have the knowledge too 😁

    Thanks both for the help

Have you go the USB cable?

Have you checked what frequencies they use?

Have you check if they have Beat Shift?

USB Cable if we go for the UV5R will most likely be thishttps://www.amazon.co.uk/Baofeng-Programming-Compatible-BF-888S-Contains/dp/B09248RC78/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=baofeng+programming+cable&qid=1625576366&sprefix=baofeng+progra&sr=8-4

With regards to frequencies I, I have not, I dont even really know how setting them up would work, the only radios I've ever used you just selected a channel and spoke. Beat shift, I don't believe the UV5Rs have it but then again I'm not too familiar with what it is.

The most common licence used in airsoft for these types of radio is the Small business licence, with no exam required - £75 for 5 years

    https://secure.ofcom.org.uk/busrad/

Or there is the foundation HAM licence, which is free once you have a pass certificate from  the Radio Society exam costs £27.50

Free training resources - courses or self study:

    https://www.essexham.co.uk/train/

    Radio society exam:

    https://rsgb.org/main/rsgb-examination-booking/

    OfCom Ham licence applications:

    https://www.ofcom.org.uk/manage-your-licence/radiocommunication-licences/online-licensing-service

The business licence is the next easiest route after PMR, the Ham foundation is the second cheapest (legal) route after true PMR

Thank you this is insanely helpful.

must say i am going for the mags in the pocket option

Wow, very nice collection there. What make is the Uzi? Dont see too many of those around.

Managed to grab myself an MTP jacket at the carboot so when I'm using the M1A1 Thompson I just throw some of my m4 mags in the many pockets ready to speedily fill my single Thompson mag 😁

  14. Friends and I are looking at getting some radios, the UV-5R seems like a decent shout and isn't too expensive and we can also use them while hiking it seems. I understand theres a need to get a loicense for it so I was wondering where abouts people would recommend courses for getting said license, as it seems theres some kind of test to get it according to this website: https://www.essexham.co.uk/baofeng-radio-without-licence

I know you can probably get away with using one without having a license but its something that I would like to learn more about and figured these courses & getting a "amateur radio “Foundation” licence" would help with that.

Any info as to how to go about getting the license and learning the necessary information would be great and if anyone has other radio recommendations that would be grand.

    Thanks

  15. If you haven't already I'd recommend Black Ops Cribs and Portishead, both great sites. Spartan Airsoft is the other side of Bristol and is a good outdoor woodland one, Bristol Courthouse like you said is AMAZING if you want to run things like pistol only for a bit of fun (although I've had quite a few issues there of people not taking hits/being general smooth brains). As mentioned above, Spartan CQB is a great site with a really good layout (although the lunch breaks/breaks between games are a bit long)
