  1. A bit cottage industry? That's cottage outhouse marketing right there. I was going to write a big defamatory post, listing why, but have decided to refrain. Needless to say they won't be getting any of my money.

[ETA] £8.16 to post 1kg of BBs .... are you having a laugh?

  2. I was forced into buying .25 Bulldog BBs once as that was all that was available on the site and I had ran out and they worked fine in my G&G GR16, range was poor, but fed in a high cap firly well with the occasional jam.

In my pistol the first 5 or 6 fed fine, but then stopped firing and locked bas as if out of ammo:

They somehow manage to jam in the magazine and hold themselves there even with vigorous shaking, you have to bang it to shake them off, I don't know how? maybe static, maybe its the snoop doginess or maybe its all the Bitches, but it sure ain't physics!

so yes, I know the earlier post was in jest, but they truely are poor.

  3. I may; I have used them in several guns and magazines so far and they have exceeded my every expectation. I use them in my GHK m4, I use them in my G&G gr16 and I used them in my TM Glock, all running 6.3 TBBs.

To memory I have not had a single jam or blockage, well one time but the hop up was on full, wound it in and it shot again. I have never seen a double feed with them and they have never mis fed to my knowledge.

I have used both the .28 and the .25 flavors and found them both very accurate and consistent, on a 10m range they hit 10/10 on the base of a coke can in all guns, pistol to DMR. with the .28 offering a decent punch on metal competition "poppers" that the .25s struggle with.

The .28 were more accurate during an IPSC session than the .25s. In open field the 2.8s hold their trajectory and range with very little deviation, they will deviate obviously by external factors but they seem to be the most consistent. I use .25s for indoor CQB because they are slightly cheaper.

I'm also a big fan of Taiwanguns P&J Bio bbs, although I have had some in my garden now for over 6 months that still are not degrading, they are nicely finished, consistent and accurate.

I used to use Blaster Devils and they were good bbs, quite accurate, very rarely jammed and when they did I can't say for certain it was a bb issue or a gun/magazine feed issue, but I find the bastards more consistent and more accurate.

if im being critical I actually found the .20 black devils I have for chrono testing often miss feed and feel a bit greaser and appear quite shiny in comparison to the white .25 devils.

The BBB are quite smooth and matte with no visible mouldings or imperfections. The only thing that lets them down is the bag they come in can sometimes split in the corners, but I believe they are addressing that according to facebook.

Its all anecdotal and circumstantial of course and just my 2c, but they just seem to be a much higher quality and better performing BB, I don't know how or why, but they just work for me. Its only a couple of quid extra, (less than a pint) over a bottle of blasters and I would definitely recommend at least trying them. You may be pleasantly surprised.

It may be worth noting I use low caps and gas guns so i'm not shooting 2000 shots a day. if you are a bit ammo hungry I can for see the cost factor playing a bigger role in choice. I have bought some from Patrol Base and the seller on Ebay, who is slightly more expensive, but more convenient than driving from manchester to leeds.

Rumors are that Redwolf will soon be selling them too.

[ETA] Agghh zero ones! I forgot about those horrible POS, one of my local sites use them for a game where you have to find the ammo and are forced to use the bbs they provide, they jammed and broke the speed loader before they even got into the magazine.

  4. Its illegal in 'Murica and I believe in parts of europe too, I cant seem to find anything pointing to it being illegal in the UK, although it is a bit dangerous, the bottle should only be filled to 80% and should be completely empty, neither of which you can do in a shed. Most people freeze the bottle for a few hours first. Propane expands in air to 240 times its liquid volume, and is relatively volatile, so its a pretty hazardous gas to be messing with.

I have been using a madbull adapter for a few months now with no issues or leaks, I just wish it came with a cap like the AI one does.

    It flipping stinks though!

  5. First and foremost, you don't need to be registered to play airsoft, you may need to be UKARA registered if you wish to purchase an all black gun, there is no restriction on purchasing a two tone or using hire guns / borrowing one, and there are no restrictions on playing.

If its for an air rifle, you may be better asking on an air rifle forum, airsoft sights are generally pretty poor design and construction, they are also mostly 20mm weaver rails where as most air rifles when I had them were 11mm Dovetail rails.

You could consider angled iron sights like this: http://www.patrolbase.co.uk/airsoft-sights-scopes/replica-angled-iron-sights.htm#.VD-YA_nF98E

  6. The overall quality of the standard Magnums have gone rapidly down hill over the last 6 or 7 years, my standard issue boots (patrol CEN) are terrible and take about 3 months to fully break in, by which time the leather is too scuffed and ready for the bin.

I have had a pair of Magnum Spider 8.1 for about 12 months now and they have lasted quite well and are pretty comfortable, although not even remotely watertight.

I did have a pair of bates and they were the most comfortable boots I have ever owned, but are heavy and had huge platform heels. Not very nimble boots.

One of the lads had some DrMarten patrol boots that fell to bits after 3 weeks, the sole came loose and the lace eyelets were tearing.

My next pair will be Haix Airpower P3s. But then I wear mine 15 hours a day at work where they need to be posh enough to walk into an Alderley edge mansion, protective enough to walk onto a building site and nimble enough to rally inbetween.

I think if they were purely for airsoft I wouldn't spend anywhere near the money I do on boots, good fitting £25 surplus boots are more than enough for the odd Sunday romp in the woods imo.

Getting a boot that fits and is broken into your foot is key, an expensive boot that doesn't fit is a bad boot.

    TL:DR I'm a bit of a boot whore

  7. So in a nut shell its for convenience? The standard hop works well, is accurate and consistent, but a pain to adjust?

I take on all your points and agree entirely, I left hop adjustment out of my earlier post because I assumed it was a given that you should set your hop for any gun from pistol to BAR.

  8. Regarding the a&k svd. Other than the extended cocking handle I would suggest getting the alternate hop up. This saves you having to take the top cover of and using a tiny allen key to adjust the hop. This can be purchased from http://www.airsoftsniperparts.com/apps/webstore/products/show/2657310

Why? what advantage does that offer? Every time you adjust your hop up you lose your zero, the Allen key is designed to be as solid and consistent as possible

  9. The MB06 (same as ASG Urban Sniper)b is the same internals as the l96 acording to ASPUK (original maruzen clones iirc), for £110 its a good choice. A TBB will cost £30, a bag of BBs £20. all in £160 with some change, strip it clean it and your good to go. It just doesn't look very pretty.

Alternatively I like the JG BAR 10, but not shot one, so cant comment on anything other than feel and finish.

If you are spending £130 on a cyma, personally I would find the extra £35 for a TM

  10. Airsoft is full of myths that are never well founded let alone proven. Bolt action rifles are no exception to this, I sometimes wander whether those spouting the "needz moar upgradez" line are those who have bought into the upgrade route and are simply trying to justify their own expense, and I know for a fact some are trying to put off new players from sniper roles in order to make themselves appear more l33t.

With sniping there are lots of things that will cause you to have a bad day and bad accuracy, more so that with an AEG

    1) if you cant shoot you cant snipe and if you have never shot accurately before you will not be a good sniper on day one. they are a different game to assault weapons, they are their own discipline and take a degree of marksmanship, patience and field craft. Stuff you don't learn on day 1 of skirmishing, (1a) it takes time and practice.

    2) They are cheap and they are Chinese, they are not built pristinely, by those who love to build precision guns. They will be full of gunky grease, screws will not be tight and bits will be in wrong, Any new gun (even aegs) should be stripped cleaned re greased and tightened up again, clean and de grease the barrell, fix any air leaks with PTFE tape and give it a good once over. Again this level of tech experience doesn't come on day 1. See 1a

    3) Your scope is more important than your gun, buy a cheap chinese one and its going to be poor, don't zero it properly at the range you want to be most effective at and its going to be poor. Most scopes sub £50 are going to be bad out of the box. look for branded scopes. Hawke would be my budget recommendation, SMK if you really are on a tight budget. AND FOR GOD SAKE CLAMP IT DOWN!

    4) You need heavy BBs, .2 wont cut it, no one can tell you what is the best weight as its purely personal, but any lower than .3 is useless for ranged accuracy. see 1a

Heavier bbs are more expensive but you wont eat through them anywhere near as fast as you do in an aeg.

    5) Don't expect the world, you cant hit that 200m man hiding behind the log, its a BB gun, realise its limits. Learn to calculate range, I bet your perception of 60 meters is a lot different to my perception of 60 meters, amd we are probably both still way out. see 1a

The majority of Snipers who give up fall foul to the majority of these rules, if you correct them all I can guarantee any cheap bolt action rifle will at least match an AEG in terms of accuracy and range, The hardest one to get right is Number 1, and the most important is 1a.

I have used an MB06, (ASG Urban Sniper to be precise) and I was very impressed, they lad bought it new and it was his first day skirmishing it, the scope was the wrong way round, not clamped down and he was using bulldog .2 bbs. he hit nothing in the first 2 hours before having a hissy fit.

We swapped guns, after I cleaned grease out of the barrel with bog roll, put the scope on properly and zerod it, and loaded up with .28 bastards, I was able to get some nice kills with it out to 50 (ish) meters on a small site. Its a good gun if you put in the effort. imho you cant spend £110 on an aeg and get the same performance.

  11. Its very difficult to advise somebody where and when to use walkie-talkies, its comes down to how you play and who you play with. One day you may be mid game and think "I need a radio yo" then you may not need to use it again for months. others may use it every time, its an entirely personal thing.

I rarely use mine as I usually play fairly small sites, where a small team can communicate effectively without them, however when I played Free Fire Zone in Peterborough, that place is huge and being able to communicate with my own team (or the other team) would have been beneficial.

its also worth noting that walkie-talkies don't create good communication, walkie-talkies are simply an extension tool. If you can't effectively communicate with a team in close ranges a walkie-talkie will just exaggerate that mis-communication. It sound obvious and a little patronising (not aimed at anyone personally) but as we have discussed elsewhere there is a lot of bad transitions and its very tedious to those who want to use a radio effectively to enhance the game.

[Edit] It is all sounding a bit too serious and "train spotting" so from now I think we should refer to all comms as "walkie-talkies".

  12. CTCSS is overrated, unless you are playing in your own big team and want to keep your coms isolated to just you. And if you are in that scenario then it could be beneficial buying a licence for your own frequency.

For normal skirmishes most people can't even land on the same simple channels.

    KISS principle.

  13. I've looked at the baofeng UV-5R and thinking of getting it cause you can program all sorts of frequencies on the screen directly

I have the UK 466 freq's written down so would I program the 1st three numbers and the last 3 numbers on the keypad ???

If you already have the 888s, I would stick to them, the uv5r is a good bit of kit but if you only want the PMR channels then you can simply pre program them into the memory. No hassle, no messing just 8 simple channels.

It is too easy to inadvertently change the channel on the UV5r while its in your pocket, there is also a lot to break including the screen and button surrounds. The 888s is a bit more reliable and robust personally.

  14. Anyone ever used or seen one? they have been out a while, yet there doesn't seem many reviews, especially on the longevity of the molle system, which frankly looks like it will fall to bits in a week.

I like the look and the idea, and would go nicely with my De-militarised loadout style.

    Anyone any experience?

Also anyone know where I can get plain black HSGI TACO pouches? Preferably repro?
