  1. Try being 5ft 5... To be honest any sniper rifle will be fine - my svd is almost as big as me yet I've had no issues using it. But like Monty said - a vsr is a very light rifle once you've removed all of the weights from the stock.
  2. I want to be on it. A lot of my fellow Bolsheviks are going but I can't at the moment - will have to call in a few favours at work since we're not technically allowed holiday time in December...
  3. Thought I'd leave this here: my ASG MK23. Not to everyone's tastes but I just love the idea of an "assault pistol".
  4. Yeah the 47 isn't really accurate for most impressions - an AKM is more in theme for Afghan War ones and a 74 for anything later than that. And there is an airsoft Saiga 12 out there but it's a cheap spring model that is no longer produced (I've tried to find one). If you're not a fan of AKs or want something a little different then you could go for a Vintorez. Used by a lot of modern forces and there are a number of airsoft replicas out there. That said they usually shoot hot out of the box (DMR levels) so need downgrading to under 350, but they're very compact little guns. ...Or you could go for a PKM. Not a CQB gun but you'll scare the hell out of anyone on the other team with it Plus it's accurate for a lot of impressions both modern and Afghan era.
  5. Yeah general consensus is that if you've not earned it then don't wear rank slides, berets, etc. Best left at home or to be worn as an impression at military fairs/reenactments. Personally I would zip tie the scrim net to your boonie hat when sniping - breaks up your outline more and let's you cover your optics when shooting from a hide. I've done this myself with my boonie hat and it works really well. Being zip tied on means it's very easy to remove as well afterwards or if you don't like it.
  6. Trying to not spend as much this month (he says whilst eyeing up a TM Breacher) so only little bits and pieces this month: German Paratrooper Boots (Unissued) £45 - eBay NCS Triple Pistol Pouch (Olive) £6.95 - Zero One TMC Admin Panel (Olive) £7.95 - Zero One Boots are for both work and airsoft since my old magnums finally have finally given up the ghost. Pistol pouch and admin panel are for my sniping chest rig. Was using mp5 pouches but the magazines kept coming loose.
  7. My SVD is the heaviest I own at around 3kg. Everything else that I have is a lot lighter.
  8. Here's my two sniper rifles: Top rifle is my Well MB-02. Running at 470-480 fps on .2gram BBs. Not fully upgraded internally as the stock parts are sufficient for the moment however it has a new 6.01mm inner barrel, hop lever, bucking and a number of DIY mods. The rifle wrap I made to match my current ghillie suit and works well for my local sites. Next rifle is my King Arms SVD Dragunov. Completely stock internals and shoots around 450 fps on .2 gram BBs.
  9. This is the base I use for my rig: http://frontowiec.com/index.php?p3853,kmn-vest-panel-black I wanted something lighter than a 6sh112 vest as the base since I like to just the basics in milsim games (where the photo was taken). Frontowiec is a great site if you're after cheap Russian gear. Have you tried the Russian Military Airsoft Loadouts UK (RMAL-UK) Facebook group? Lots of good deals to have from second hand kit.
  10. I think we've found a winner! Especially when you know that BB gun websites sell these for under £100...
  11. Once you find a gun you like: research the hell out of it. Some guns have common issues that you won't get told about when you buy it but looking online or asking people will tell you. It's worth taking the time to know you're buying a quality gun that will last you a long time. Also don't let people tell you not to buy certain guns because they're not "newbie friendly". When I first started everyone I asked told me not to bother with gas rifles because they're not great for new players. Looking back I wish I hadn't listened as I find gas rifles a lot easier to maintain and use than AEGs - anything other than a v6 gearbox (used in P90s and M14s) I won't touch as I find the trigger mechanism too fiddly. Downsides though, with gas guns, are a lower mag cap and fewer aftermarket parts. For upgrading you'd be better served going for an AEG or spring sniper rifle. Not being "newbie friendly" could be said of sniper rifles. What proffrink said is true to a degree: they need a fair bit of upgrading to be really effective - especially for high FPS set ups (the main benefit of sniping). However this isn't set in stone since a stock Tokyo Marui VSR can be very effective without any upgrades. The hop up on this thing is just magical and gives an impressive range to a low FPS rifle (280-300). In addition it is one of the easiest rifles you'll ever have to take apart. The main reason why people don't recommend sniper rifles is you don't get an accurate feel for the game that you would with a regular AEG or gas rifle. It takes a more patient mindset to properly snipe in airsoft and isn't as "fun" for most new players who want to get stuck in rather than hanging back from the main fire fights. If you think you'd prefer this style of game then go ahead and buy one but be prepared for a lot frustrating moments of people not taking hits and watching your shots be knocked off course by the wind, twigs, etc.
  12. I've used several AEPs in the past and though they are very practical I just prefer my gas pistols more. Very useful in CQB but too underpowered to be useful at woodland sites. That said a compact, light sidearm with the option to go full auto is nothing to be disregarded if you use sniper rifles. Very useful in those "OH F***!" moments when you run into several players at close range.
  13. I run Russian kit as do a fair few others on here. Era wise I used to run Afghan war era loadouts but I've moved onto more modern gear. Depending on the site I either run an MVD kit for CQB or if it's a woodland site I use a Recon inspired loadout. Unfortunately I have no pictures of my MVD loadout as there never seems to be a camera man in attendance when I use it. Here's a rare pic of me in Recon kit though: Not very clear but I'm on the right in the KZS suit with the Dragunov slung over my shoulder. For the kit I'm running a splav molle panel with two splav Dragunov ammo pouches (Digital Flora), splav bayonet sheath (Digital Flora), splav radio pouch (Digital Flora) and a splav olive utility pouch. On my back I carry a "Badger" style backpack (Digital Flora) and holstered on my left leg is a CZ75 pistol since I don't have a Makarov yet.
  14. Best moment I've seen was when a guy cleared a room of seven of us with his pistol. It was at The Towers in Leicester (sadly now closed) and he somehow managed to sneak through our lines which was hard to do since the rooms/corridors could be a maze for even regular players. Anyway he sneaked round the back and came in behind us. We obviously all thought he was on our team (or at least I did). He just casually walked past us all: seven shots, seven kills. I had to go for a congratulatory fist bump afterwards - was a brilliant bit of shooting and tactics. Anyway. My own most efficient kill would be when I scored two confirmed double kills in a row with my tri shot shotgun. Was at MAW in Melton Mowbray and I somehow managed to find myself on the flank of the enemy teams assault. Crept up on a group of four guys and fired. Two guys called "hit" so I racked the gun and fired at the last two which they both called. Seemed how I was angled allowed the spread from my gun to hit two people on both occasions. The guys I shot congratulated me as did a marshal who was watching. I wish they hadn't as I then got lit up by what seemed to be the rest of the enemy team
  15. I once had a four foot foam broadsword that I used to use for melee kills. People would honestly run away when I charged them with it!
  16. I pretty much do the same. Hurts like hell when you run into half the enemy team but you'll sure kill a lot of them first
  17. Not sure if this is a troll post... Good luck getting them through customs without a UKARA number and being underage. Especially since it's illegal for you to purchase one (regardless of whether it's two toned or not) unless you got an adult to do it for you. Expect it to be seized by customs and destroyed but that doesn't mean it won't arrive at all - there have been times when RIFs have sailed through customs before.
  18. Just my thoughts on tactics: 1. Tuck your elbows/knees/feet in when behind cover. I've scored a lot of kills shooting these areas as people don't get fully into cover. 2. Always follow a grenade into the room. The enemy will scarper on seeing the grenade come in leaving you with the opportunity to cut them down or mop up anyone smart enough to get in cover. Throwing in a grenade without following it gains no tactical advantage as you're not gaining ground and allows the enemy to reinforce that area. 3. Avoid bottlenecks/choke points unless you're defending. Even then be wary of the attackers finding a different way around. 4. Keep noise down to a minimum. If you're engaging someone or a group who you think are on your side just have one person shout to find out. That way if it's an enemy they don't work out how many of you are there and if it's a friendly then they will hear you easier. It becomes a right cluster f*** when you have two groups shouting "We're red!" at each other and neither can hear the other because everyone's shouting. 5. Keep moving. Even in a fall back game when you're on the defence. If you stay in one spot the enemy will pick up on that and gun you down. Even by simply switching to the other side of the corridor is sometimes enough to keep them guessing. Especially if you do it after every kill. 6. Actions speak louder than words. Rather than shout "push up!" like everyone else, actually do it. Unless it's a bloody ridiculous thing to do (like rushing a choke point on your own).
  19. I have a soft shell jacket in olive drab that I use with my boonie hat on wet weather days - waterproof but I do end up getting a bit warm if I'm running around. On rainy days I tend to use a more cautious approach though - especially at woodland sites - so it's not too bad.
  20. Working in retail it's rare I get weekends off but I try to make at least one game a month - even if it's just a Wednesday night game. Very tempted to "Opt out" of working Sundays but with the small team I work with this would screw everyone over.
  21. One of the few times a gun has stood out for me was when I first laid eyes on a Barrett .50cal someone had brought to a skirmish (cannot remember the brand). Having a deep seated love for sniper rifles I had to go over and have a chat with it's owner. Was a bit dissapointed it was an electric rifle (I prefer spring snipers) but was a nice bit of kit.
  22. Good choice mate. Give the barrel/mechanism a thorough clean and you've got yourself a reliable sidearm that can outrange a lot of other guns.
  23. Depends massively on personal preference really. Out of everything I've owned/fired then it has to be my GBB Vz61 Skorpion from KWA/KSC. Shoots around 290-300 fps on green gas, is as compact as a regular pistol, laser accurate once the hop has been dialed in correctly and is very sturdy. Also it's rarely seen at most skirmish sites (most people opt for the AEP models) so you've got that added "uniqueness" factor. Downsides though are the lack of aftermarket parts, mags aren't cheap and neither is green gas itself (unless you buy propane to power it). For electric guns then I'd say the ICS MP5 is a pretty good bet out of the box. Compact, decent trigger response and can hold it's own in woodland if you need it to. Again this is just from guns I've owned or fired personally.
  24. Make it a reality and I'm in Anyway I'm more than happy to lend out some ammo to anyone who needs a bit. That said I won't lend out my more expensive/sniper ammo unless the person is using that sort of rifle and wants to try a different ammo weight in it. But yeah I'm the "tools and spare ammo guy" in our group for a reason.
  25. Jealous :/ Now go sit in the corner and think about how you've made me feel.
