You go here to check that a player is registered.

However, as has been noted, a UKARA registration is not the only means of proving that the defence applies to a sale to a particular person - a photo of them airsofting for eg is perfect. Do note that although the VCRA is the law and therefore, if something really egregious did happen and there was no other way to prosecute those involved, no doubt the Crown Prosecution Service would attempt to proceed with such a case, however you should also be made aware that ACPO, the Association of Chief Police Officers, have stated that the law is unenforcible and that the police will not attempt to enforce it where it is simply trade law - some police 'services'/forces have attempted to push enforcement onto local government officials, Trading Standards Officers, however they have said no fucking way... and you can see why - it is the simplest thing in the world to lie your way out of - in fact, if you read the actual wording of the law, you'll see that you'd have to be trying to get prosecuted to lose the case

More importantly however, anything which you may do with an RIF which would bring you to the attention of the police was and remains an offence under the Firearms Act, which is a lot simpler and criminalises only verifiable, evidence defined, behaviour. The other Act which they would turn to if they felt that they did not quite have enough on you under the Firearms Act is the Public Order Act, which basically makes anything which the police determine is annoying an offence. Prima facie it may seem difficult to imagine how selling something to somebody with which they then went off to do something stupid could be a public order offence, but trust me on this, the way the both POA's are written, if they wanted you in jail, they could find something...

The upshot then is that, as a vendor, what you need to determine about the buyer is not so much whether they are an airsofter as whether they are a dick. And over 18...

Hello every one, this page is dedicated to all your Airsoft gun needs such as repairs,upgrades/downgrades,hydro-dipping and custom work.
We are based in North London and already established with our fully equipped workshop, so that we can do most Airsoft custom work along with hydro-dipping,there is no job too small for us.
Our engineer is really talented with years of experience in Airsoft repair and custom work,we as a business are relatively new but we had really good feedback from people we worked for/with in the past.
Also our website is near completion and it will be up and running in couple of days but in the meanwhile I will post photos from our newly established workshop of some work we have done.
If you have any questions or you are interested in the work we do please feel free to post or PM us.

Ok, I'm bored so I thought I would do a review on this item. cost me £25 posted, however I believe it is worth it. Lets begin:

    Finish:
The finish is very good, like anything you would expect from Magpul. It is solid, and looks the part. It definitely adds to your rifle. Very good quality.
As you can see frm the photo it is quite a tight fit however, I had no idea how tight it would be. I use the 2600mah 7.4v LiPo from VP racing and it only just fits.

The box. Very nice looking box, don't know how magpul do it but they make a standard cardboard box look orgasmic, to say the least. Inside the box you get a manual, you don't really need it to attach it, not a very hard thing to do.

The one thing I am having trouble with is the main part not coming off when pulling down the delta ring, but it's probably me not being strong enough. Overall this is a really good item, I will add more to the review when I skirmish it.

P.S it does have a small hand stop that allows you to hold it there, a nice feature.

Teeth generally are either steel/metal or nylon/plastic. You'll find the first tooth generally always metal since this tooth takes most of the strain when pulling back a piston. Full metal are generally a little more expensive but it all comes down to what type of gearbox your going for. Generally for a standard replacement a 1 tooth piston is fine like this one: http://www.ak2m4.co.uk/internal-parts/pistons-heads/shs-piston-1-tooth

You'll definitely need some grease, you can pick up some from general DIY shops or I do sell some in small tubes http://www.ak2m4.co.uk/index.php?route=product/search&search=grease

    Hope that helps a little....

    No it won't!

A few unsavouriness running around with toyguns is not a reason to destroy a multi million pound industry on a whim. The government genuinely couldn't care less, they have got much much much more important things to be trying to ban.

To put some perspective to it , cars, motorbikes, alcohol, air fresheners and toasters all cause significant more deaths, danger and drain government resources than airsoft could in a million years, but they show no mention of them been banned.
It's very paranoid and naive to think they will be able to ban airsoft.

UKARA has absolutely no legal standing or basis. It's a union on retailers who hold a database of names of players who wish to be registered and defined under their criteria.

The shop can legally sell to anyone over 18 and with a valid reason to own one. If the shop is prepared to take your word that it is to be used for skirmishing or any other legit defence, then that is their prerogative, there is no requirement in law for you to PROVE you have a valid defence, simply stating it is enough.

However, legit airsoft retailers like to use the UKARA as a way to control and regulate who has access to the RIFs in order to keep them and the sport out of the mass media and public eyes.

Lots of good motors out there, the SHS standard motors are pretty good and cheap, same with the ZCI motors (these are slightly cheaper). If you want to go for something a little more upmarket then Lonex do a good range. But before you start shelling out definately worth trying to find out what the actual problem is first.

    What spring is this pulling?

Also have you tried inserting a long screwdriver into the nozzle and pushing to see if the actual piston goes all the way back? Just another thing you can do before you crack it open...

Exact wording you say? I have an app for that!:

Laws Regarding Buying and Selling Imitation Firearms Relevant to Airsoft

As the law currently stands (and it stands on the whim of the Home Secretary):

    In relation to UNDER 18s:

    - it is legal to own an IF or a RIF
    - it is illegal to buy an IF or a RIF if you are under 18
    - it is illegal to sell an IF or a RIF to an under 18

    From 'VCRA 2006' Section 40 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/40

    In relation to OVER 18s:

    - it is legal to own an IF or a RIF
    - it is legal to buy an IF or a RIF if you are over 18
    - it is legal to sell an IF to an over 18
    - it is illegal to sell a RIF to an over 18
    - it is illegal to manufacture a RIF
    - it is illegal to import a RIF

    From 'VCRA 2006' Section 36 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2006/38/section/36

NOTE 1: if you wish to import a RIF, manufacture a RIF or sell a RIF to an over 18 you can avail yourself of a 'defence against prosecution' if you can show that you believed that you were intending to provide the RIF for "the acting out of military or law enforcement scenarios for the purposes of recreation" (an example of which is 'airsoft skirmishing') at a site with third party liability insurance. One way for a seller to do this is to establish that the buyer is registered with the UKARA database, though this is by no means a legal requirement or the only way for the seller to establish a defence for themselves.

From 'VCRA 2006 (Realistic Imitation Firearms) Regulations 2007' - http://www.opsi.gov.uk/si/si2007/20072606.htm

With further notes specific to airsoft in 'VCRA 2006 (Commencement No 3) Order 2007' - https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/the-violent-crime-reduction-act-2006-commencement-no-3-order-2007-firearms-measures

NOTE 2: any attempt to commit one of the offences listed as illegal above is also illegal in itself.

    From 'Criminal Attempts Act 1981' Section 1 - http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1981/47/section/1

NOTE 3: the defence required to manufacture a RIF is not age specific, so an under 18 should be able to do so legally as long as they can prove their defence.

    Acronym Glossary:

IF: Imitation Firearm (in relation to airsoft this is generally recognised as an airsoft gun which is painted over 50% in an 'unrealistic' colour - this is generally referred to as 'two tone')

RIF: Realistic Imitation Firearm (in relation to airsoft this is generally recognised as an airsoft gun which is 'realistically' coloured so as not be easily distinguishable from a real firearm)

VCRA: Violent Crime Reduction Act (the most recent law which directly affects the buying and selling of imitation firearms)

UKARA: United Kingdom Airsoft Retailers Association (a group created by leading UK airsoft retailers to easily establish a defence against prosecution for themselves when selling imitation firearms - they maintain a database of airsoft players for this purpose; to be entered on the database a player must play three games in over a two month period at a registered airsoft site)

Good summation by Longshot. I've had a lot of parts sent over from the US and some GBB Mac-10's (2 in one shipment) - no UKARA number, nothing and everything sailed through customs. Everyone has a different story though.

How much is it to send a receiver from the US to UK these days? - I'm guessing around $20, is the courier USPS? After you've added up the cost of postage maybe you're only saving a few quid???

Right, be prepared for a long answer!

Firstly there is NO such thing as a 'UKARA license.' There is no 'license' at all for Imitation Firearms ('IFs' or 'two tones') or Realistic Imitation Firearms ('RIFs') since they are not illegal to own.

Next, the law in this country (Violent Crime Reduction Act - VCRA - 2006) makes it ALWAYS illegal to sell, import or manufacture a RIF (though not to buy one if you are over 18). So if anybody imports or manufactures a RIF they are breaking the law. If they were arrested for doing this they could be prosecuted and face up to five years in prison, however they could avoid this by establishing a 'defence against prosecution' for doing so (which is why you always hear airsofters talking about having 'a defence').

There are several defences written into UK law, and the one used by airsofters is basically that you can have a defence to import or manufacture if you can show that you were going to use the RIF to play airsoft at a proper site with the the correct insurance. This is where UKARA comes in. They are an organisation that keeps a database of people who have memberships to sites with the correct insurance and who have played there at least three times. As a result, being on this database is generally the easiest (but not only) way to establish a defence.

Now to your situation! Whether you you import a whole RIF or import the parts and then manufacture one you WILL be breaking the law. The question then becomes whether you can establish a defence against prosecution for doing so.

In the first instance, importing a whole RIF, I'd say you'd have the most trouble. There's a high chance that customs would stop your RIF and then speak to you. Customs barely understand the laws, so UKARA seem to be the only thing they understand. That being the case importing would be a bad idea for you.

In the second instance, importing parts, you'd have more of a chance of getting them through. That said, customs do also stop parts, so you could have an issue. Mislabelling the cost of parts is illegal though, so if they discover that you'd also be in trouble. If all the parts do get to you then you putting them together is illegal as it's 'manufacture.' Realistically, however, once you've put the parts together who's to know? Technically speaking if you do put them together to play airsoft at a proper site then you've met the wording of the VCRA anyway and therefore DO have a defence against prosecution.

Anyway, the various risks and rewards are now yours to weigh up! Hope that helps.
