Tactical Gear brands and opinions

maybe so, but it's not the only time it's happened using a serpa and 90% of it is down to the release button being exactly where the trigger is. -
Tactical Gear brands and opinions

Their retention method is less than excellent (just holding the pistol on the trigger guard with no other means of retention. The lack of ability to buy a serpa that'll accommodate a pistol with a light (that isn't the frankly rubbish and overpriced xiphos), lack of protection given to the pistol, especially the muzzle being completely uncovered allowing for dirt to get in. On top of all that, is the serious safety issue (not an issue with airsoft) in the way the release mechanism forces you to put pressure on a button right next to the trigger as you draw, it's impossible to draw a pistol from a serpa without having your finger at least adjacent to the trigger as the pistol comes out... people have shot themselves in the leg because of this: -

I'm not sure the comment about 600D cordura is valid... pretty much every item of gear I own is made from 500-600D (got a couple of 300D bits too!) and it's all really hardwearing stuff, not AS hardwearing as 1000D admittedly, but I don't expect any of it to wear out before my knees do. As for Blackhawk! stuff, their holsters are 'acceptable' at best, they're certainly not one of the top hard holster makers anymore, the rest of the kit they make these days is fairly dire. We had a bunch of Blackhawk! Strike plate carriers issued on my most recent deployment and not one of them lasted more than 3 months without a seam fraying or a clip breaking. That's pretty shit considering the Osprey vests everyone else had (which are some really bargain basement stuff) held up fine. -
Whatever gets you about 280fps ish in my experience is the 'best' bb weight for any particular gun. Entirely dependent on whether or not the hop can lift it though.

What Camo gear is everyone wearing
jcheeseright replied to Black_rat's topic in New Players & Arrivals
AOR2 is the official barracks uniform of US Navy NSW and US Navy Security personnel... no one else uses it. Sorry. It is an awesome pattern though, really effective and pretty unusual. -
If you have small hands a 1911 may be a good shout, they've got quite narrow grips. Anything, TM do a fairly good variety of 1911s too, including a really nice chrome one!
-
If you do want an M92 though, TM have just announced/released a new one with updated parts. The WE 1911 will cause you nothing but problems, mags are too small to hold enough gas to cycle the slide properly. WE glocks are apparently very good these days, as are TM. Like a few others have said though, if in doubt get a TM hicapa and be safe in the knowledge that there is no better pistol available on the market.

here it is: http://www.airsoft-forums.co.uk/index.php/topic/23346-how-to-effectively-communicate-by-radio
-
I did write a pretty extensive guide to radio usage a while back... it'll be on the forums somewhere. The rest of it though is largely stuff that's better learned by doing... you can read about breaching and building entry etc all you like but teaching it is something that requires a hands on approach

I'm pretty into my super immersive milsim, probably a bit too much... Gen3 night vision, seriously considering buying a pickup truck to mount a .50cal or minigun onto, etc etc. even so far as my team fairly regularly booking CQB sites (and occasionally the odd MOD training area) for just us so we can go over room entry drills/building clearances/approaches to buildings etc. But even from that rather sad and OTT hilltop it seems like using a computer game for 'training' is a bit too far. Especially since I don't think it'll really make a difference. Using Skype/teamspeak/whatever for comms isn't anything like using a radio, since everyone can transmit at the same time, crossing a road in a computer game means holding W for a little while and moving your mouse! On top of that, aiming and shooting cannot be replicated by using a computer. There's a reason the military sticks to expensive field exercises instead of sitting people down in front of computers 99% of the time. Yes vehicle sims are an exception, but the skills are directly transferable in those cases, much like aircraft simulators are used a LOT by military air crew. It might just be me, but I honestly don't see how being a cohesive team in a computer game is going to translate all that well into being a cohesive team when stuck in a muddy wood for a weekend!

That's a terrible idea, shooting a pair of safety glasses at point blank is NOT a suitable test to see if they'll hold up under all conditions, on top of that shooting them once will weaken the lens... unless you buy a few pairs and keep shooting them until they break to do a proper test you're gambling big time. Safety glasses for working with power tools and the like are NOT ballistic rated, while in 99% of cases they're entirely strong enough to stop a BB the recognised minimum standard for airsoft eyepro is BS EN 166F.

Clean the barrel every few months unless you've gotten particularly dirty, other than that just let it run til something breaks. For barrel cleaning I tend to go the whole hog and remove it entirely from the hop unit and give it a thorough going over with isopropyl alcohol wipes, I don't clean my barrel very often though, even once every 2-3 months I don't tend to get much gunk come out.

Site Break in Ironsight airsoft - Andover
jcheeseright replied to Sam_G's topic in General Discussion
Sorry to hear about this Sam, hope your insurance picks up the tab! -
my view on this is to always stick with stock parts until they break (IF they break, which may be many many years from now), if you're after reliability then sticking with the bits that G&P put together is the way forward. I certainly wouldn't bother with the motor, the BTC Spectre allows you to 'pre-cock' the gun, allowing for near instantaneous trigger response regardless of the motor's strength.
-
they'll stop buckshot, the bigger issue is whether or not they're the right shape to fit your face and so not leave massive gaps which BBs can get through.
-
BTCairsoft.com - get them direct from the supplier and they're relatively cheap, shipping from the US is also cheap and very quick, haven't ever had one stopped by customs either. They're likely out of stock at the moment, put yourself on the mailing list for when they come back in and it'll email you as soon as they're available again.
-
it'd be a whole load easier to just get a decent programmable MOSFET like a BTC Spectre/Chimera and fit it to the gearbox you already have, that'd give you loads more options than the ARES box which may or may not; fit the receiver, line up with hop up-unit, accept non-ares grips (the grip on a V2 gun screws directly into the gearbox to act as motor cage), have suitable guage wiring to go through the holes in the buffer tube... So many potential problems created to 'fix' a small problem when you can have everything you need by replacing one part in your existing gearbox.

I expect the 6.8GHz machine was actually a computer with a quad core 1.7GHz processor, manipulating numbers to make it seem better to the layman is something computer salesmen have been doing since the personal computer was invented!

I'd say that using the USA as an example for gun ownership is a terrible way to look at it, that's like looking at Mauritania for child mortality and literacy... never going to end well. Instead why not have a look at Finland, or Switzerland, or even Canada, all of those countries have extraordinarily relaxed gun laws and extraordinarily low gun-crime rates. America's gun problem is a cultural problem, not a legislative problem.

The lenses in an S10 are made of brittle plastic and definitely do shatter if hit the wrong way by a BB. I've broken the lens on an S10 by dropping it! As for wearing a gas mask for an airsoft game... you must be mental, they're horrible!

Decent pistol to get me started
jcheeseright replied to haroldiniho's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Night Evolution do a really good replica of a surefire X300 that's painfully bright. That'd be my first choice. -
I don't do anything, just put it in a closed top pouch, haven't had any issues yet.

Another Person Hit In The Eye By A Ricochet
jcheeseright replied to Ian_Gere's topic in General Discussion
He is lucky to have not had a much more serious injury however, given how close the hit was to his iris; one which could have compromised his eyesight to some degree permanently, and given what he does for a living, i'm pretty sure that would have spelled an enforced major shift in career direction at the very least, but perhaps being let go. Would the Navy keep you on in your current role if you had a permanent floater in the middle of the vision from one eye, for as long as it took to be able to get whatever operation/s needed and recovery time? Thankfully the RN are a pretty good employer in that regard, so long as I could meet the medical standard required (e.g. deny the floater existed!) I'd be able to carry on, recovery time wouldn't be an issue either. There are people I know who have been off work or on light duties with injuries for literally years waiting to be back to 100%. Wholly didn't see that one coming, Batman! WTF? HTF did that happen? Stupid mistake back in 2002, me and a couple of mates were shooting targets in a corridor in our accommodation at university (no eyepro for us either) and at the end of the corridor was a locked door. We didn't hear the lock open and my friend Alex walked through the door at the exact moment I fired a BB and it hit him square in the centre of his eye. Queue panicked phone calls to ambulances and armed police arriving (several minutes after the ambulance had already taken him away!). 3 days in the eye infirmary for Alex, followed by a cataract operation. He's regained full sight in that eye, but has to wear glasses now. I now take my eyepro pretty seriously, but not so much as to think that only full-seal meets the safety requirement for airsoft skirmishing. -
Another Person Hit In The Eye By A Ricochet
jcheeseright replied to Ian_Gere's topic in General Discussion
While this guy was unlucky to get hit in the eye (clearly crossbows don't fit his face properly) he's not 'lucky' to have kept his sight. I have personally shot someone directly in the eye from 15' away, no eyepro, hit them in the middle of the lens full force and while it was a bad time for everyone he can still see. Albeit having had a cataract operation to replace the lens of his left eye. Granted, if it were a 500fps bolt action rather than a 300fps AEG things may have been different. Eyepro is a personal choice, I wear shooting glasses most of the time as I find them more comfortable. I chose my frame and lens shape specifically to fit my face with the proviso that at no point around the edge of the lens should there be a gap bigger than a BB. In CQB however with the reduced engagement ranges I tend to favour full seal or even full face. -
E2 has a more robust magazine design too.
