TBH i'd rather skirmish a FAMAS than an Owen gun. I'd get rid of the bipod from the FAMAS though. On the question of good looking vs crap... generally speaking I'd say that no gun off the shelf is up to the standards I've become used to from even relatively cheap upgrades, but i think i feel more gypped when i have forked out a lot for great externals and the performance is lack lustre or worse than i do when i've bought something cheap and find it needs another £70 minimum spent on upgrades. My new E&L AK-74 for eg - she is very disappointing to shoot (to the point that I will not even bother skirmishing her until i can afford my choice of upgrades), but I wasn't particularly displeased to discover that my CYMA RPK would be improved by a few parts I already had lurking about the place...

Ares L1A1 SLR - it does look good, but it doesn't feel that nice and internally it is not only utter shite but really difficult to break down so fixing it isn't any kind of easily contemplated plan, let alone actually achieved. HFC pistols... it really can't be overstated just how much of a waste of money they are - even working as well as they do they are inaccurate, unpredictable, and break quickly. P90 - yeah, maybe if you have short arms, otherwise they not only look shit but are too uncomfortable to shoulder. I know what you mean re: FAMAS but they are kind of so ugly they're cool, in a brutal looking way. Although they do also look more like a power tool than a firearm imo...

I use either a British army duffel bag or a modified Milan anti-tank rocket launcher sock for long guns. The former is cheap as chips and holds assault rifles so long as you're careful with the flap on top, or you can put a bag/sock over the muzzle/s to be sure. The latter would easily hold 4 rifles and is just soooo cool, but of course it requires sewing ability to add a zip to the end cap and a shoulder strap.

What parts would I need to increase range?
Ian_Gere replied to iBrowniee x's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I wouldn't even bother with a gun that couldn't reliably perform headshots at 40m, but then my area of expertise is AK's not M4's so I can only advise you in general terms and from the reputation of stuff I've read about. The thing to understand about range is that, given perfect hop up performance, it is a function of FPS, both at the muzzle and at extreme range. The heavier the BB, the better it will maintain velocity at range, so certainly use 0.25g BB's and experiment with heavier. "Perfect" hop performance would be where the backspin starts and remains exactly perpendicular to the effect of gravity on the BB. This presents a number of problems even if your hop unit is extremely good, because every time the BB touches the internal barrel during its transition, it has the potential to be deflected. If you can afford it then, a barrel with a good interior polish will produce better results than a standard barrel and very good polish even better results still, not because the good barrel adds anything, but rather because it takes less away. I have found that PDI barrels (from x-fire.org in Japan) really do work considerably better than most TBB's - whether the performance is worth the cost depends on your wallet, but if you cannot afford PDI I would suggest that chromed brass or chromed copper are better than stainless steel (and that is after experience of both compared to Systema stainless steel), so long as you clean them carefully, making sure that you do not force even the slightest speck of dirt down the barrel from the muzzle when you do so, because whilst chrome is a shinier surface than steel, it is also a coating so it can be abraded off. Ideally your hop chamber will have the absolute minimum of potential wobble, so simply wrapping a few layers of PTFE tape around the hop rubber helps and once greased also improves air seal, obviously not covering the barrel window bump, so that the barrel jams into the hop chamber very tightly. Also you want the nub to fit tightly, so that there is no gap between its edges and the part of the chamber above the barrel window which holds it. Often nubs are supplied with a bit of rubber moulding still attached to one or both ends - this should be trimmed off if you are going to use a typical cylindrical nub, but I would always suggest trying an H-nub. It is likely that RATech 'hourglass' shaped hop up cushions (as they are called instead of 'nubs') are even better although I still have not got around to trying one - you can also get them from ASPUK. If either of these types proves too stiff to allow the hop to be set low enough then a Madbull Fishbone spacer is squidgier and will produce slightly better results than a standard cylinder. IMO it isn't worth faffing with the funkier nubs, flat hop etc. available for standard FPS AEG's because there is insufficient benefit available at lower power. Airlab are big fans of Lonex hop chambers for M4's so I'd start there IIWY. As for what rubber/bucking to choose, the stickier it is the less you will have to put it 'on' in order to get the same amount of back spin. This is important because the more the hop is on, the more braking effect is has on the BB and less FPS means less range. Maple Leaf 60 degree rubbers are very popular and having tried them I can confirm that they are good - the main reason however is because they have ridges on the body of the tube which create a better airseal between the barrel and hop up chamber than a plain rubber and this principle is better realised in the design of Modify Hybrid barrel/rubber combinations. Of course just wrapping PTFE tape around a good quality rubber, such as a Prometheus (Soft) purple bucking will also achieve the same increased seal. Maple Leaf also make a 50 degree rubber which ought to be better still @UK ambient temperatures, although you should also bear in mind that the softer the rubber, the faster it will wear out... -
Frankly mate, no. Airsoft need not be a ridiculously expensive hobby, but it costs an absolute bare minimum of about £170 starting from scratch. The way to do it on the cheap is laid out here.

Real Steel AK red dot sight - £77.00 posted + 2 x Weaver to Dovetail rail adapters £5.99 posted ...should go nicely on my new E&L AKS-74N Just have to decide which side mount to fit it to. I want an old skool looking one rather than anything new and tacticool stylee, but they seem to have gone out of fashion... -

Dick measuring? On a forum? I'm shocked... -
I wonder where our current emerging situation, where kids seem to have quite a lot more disposable income and much greater choice of stuff to buy with it, online, is leading and why. Because one thing is for sure, whilst there appears to be all the prerequisites for much greater customer choice, the reality seems to be somewhat different. Are we as forum members responsible for guiding so many noobs to the same old M4, or are they more insistent that the same old M4 is what they want? When was the last time that a youngster rocked up here and said, "What am bestest Vz.58?"

Irony, right? Anyhoo, E&L AKS-74M: looks and feels fantastic / shoots meh... she's going to need work. -
My new E&L AKS-74N has arrived already. Can't fit a battery under the top cover just yet, because I don't own any stick batteries on mini Tamiya connectors, but the trigger response is acceptable on 9.6V. I'll let you know how i feel about range and accuracy later after i've had chance to fire her out of the back window For now, enjoy the fantasy of owning one yourself...

At Tac House: Spartan, the 2nd day it was open, I ended up being the last man standing in the Fort against the back wall of the large garage building. No big deal, eh? Except that the position was way forward of our last defensive line which the enemy had pushed out through the bottom end of the garage. What i'm claiming uber-age for here is not my tactical skill, because I was unable to prevent some of the enemy bypassing my position and going on to hose my team mates, but rather what turned out to be something of a preternatural ability to avoid being shot, even though I was constantly under fire from several directions. Nevertheless I managed to hold them off for about 5-6mins, periodically also shooting them in the back as they tried to bypass me, and all while using mid caps and no pyros - basically it involved an awful lot of scrambling from side to side in crouched positions, bobbing up long enough to put down some fire on my most pressing attackers, then scoot again, rinse and repeat! The longest 5mins I had had in game to that point in my skirmishing career and only brought to an end when i literally ran out of ammunition...

Watching Airsoft-Ed go through a building like shit through a goose is always a treat! There are few people on the scene who can equal his spatial awareness and tactical understanding - that he does it with modesty and scrupulous honesty also just makes him too good to live. Burn the witch, I say! Then there's Andrew "Coldy" Coldicott, the deadliest airsoft sniper in the UK. Not an immodest man as such, but certainly more aware of his own uber than some, nevertheless being hit by him can sometimes feel like a privilege, a master class in concealment and tactical deployment. Not that it isn't also bloody frustrating at times when you can't get anywhere on an entire flank because 1) you can't see him and 2) even if you could, he would be out of range and easily shoot you before you could get suppressive fire on him. -
Not unless, dog-like, you were on hands and knees sniffing around my botty. The incident happened @The Stan by OpTac - outdoors playing a holdout game based on Blackhawk Down. I had to keep low to the ground to stay behind some larger bushes to avoid being visible to 2 snipers on the roof of the office block. I also had to lean quite a long way sideways to be able to fire on target avoiding the vegetation and earth banks. The combination meant that my trousers were stretched very tight across my ring and this person switched from his botty sniffing approach to engagement with a Green Gas Desert Eagle from point blank range...

Absolutely: no fucking mercy. Neither ask for nor give quarter. And what's with aiming for pouches or plates? I aim for the centre of whatever mass I can see and usually with at least a double tap, no matter whether it's 50m away or 50cm. I want the BB's that hit me to hurt, that way i know i'll definitely feel them, so i'll also know for sure that when someone points their gun at me from point blank range and i don't feel it, they either missed or their gun is empty. I also assume that other people are as keen to take their hits as i am and appreciate a good stinger to the nips as much as i do! About the only concession to courtesy i think is fair enough is to point a barrel down at someone's chin/neck should it transpire that you come around a corner and find your muzzle aimed at their face, since a broken tooth is out of all proportion more painful than any other injury which you could pick up with your eyepro in place. But hey, I have been a good sport about being double tapped directly into the anus from very close range - an injury which persisted for days and finally required me to stop eating to end back door traffic, so frankly my dears, when it comes to whinging about hits, I just don't give a shit...

Geezer across the water in your own fair neck of the woods advertised it on RMAL-UK. I snapped it up in minutes! I'm not expecting much from the performance, hence why i thought to sell my CM.048 to have the money for some upgrades, but I honestly don't think there are better externals, not even from NPO-AEG. But I already have a Prometheus (Soft) purple hop rubber, H-nub, wiring, BW3 MOSFET, so thinking about it, a TBB is probably all she'll need... -

Well, since 1911's are shit, that isn't a problem! If you want a bigger pistol, get a Beretta, unless you have tiny hands, in which case get a Glock. -
You are entitled to your money back and don't let them tell you that it's too late or anything, because you did get back to them in good time - it's not your fault they're dragging their feet. "I'm going to email Trading Standards at the Council and my solicitor if I have not heard back from you by close of business on 16th April, 2015" is what you want to be telling 'em next and do it if they do not fork over a refund.

Don't worry about it - it's not just noobs that can't understand our mate Duck! AFAIK the ASG MK23 Socom is a clone of a TM and a spot on one at that, so you can be sure that any adapters which work for 1 will work for the other (and by extension, any similar designs by those companies). Yes, CCW is counter clockwise.

Keep the PX4, mate - they are way more accurate than a thin frame thing with a long barrel like a 1911, where every slightest off-centre trigger pressure translates into millimetres of muzzle movement and hence feet of windage at target ranges... -
No, no, ne no ne no! It's all very well trying to make our friend here feel better about his deal, but the truth is he's been bent over a barrel and bumraped! For once Sitting Duck hit the nail right on the head without any confusion or ambiguity. TM motor? Well whoop-de-do... I've got one of them in my TM/Innokatsu AK-47S - it's not as good as a GFC Tornado F2 and absolute bollocks compared to either SHS High Speed or High Torque (depending on your build direction). Fuck it off back to him and get your SAW back. If you're sick of it, sell it to someone who will pay you what it's worth so you can then buy an actual working replacement... BTW, my estimation of the value of the M4 is about £160 tops, if it was working. In its current state, £90 posted.
