New Airsoft player in town looking for some gun advice!
Ian_Gere replied to Daniel248's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I haven't had a TM Recoil Shock apart, but their usual gearboxes are pants. Not just poor value for money, I mean worse quality parts than the cheap Chinese clones based on them. -
You are right, Gareth, you are going to get your arse handed to you. But that will happen first time out no matter what you are shooting. The difference is that with a decent starter gun, by lunchtime you will know that, with practice, you will have a chance and will probably enjoy yourself more if you come back. It's not very PC to say, I mean we are encouraged to believe that it is the taking part that is the shit, not the winning, but the truth is that winning feels good and losing is bad; the worse the losing the worse it feels. To have a chance of winning when you start out you need a decent gun. Rent until you get a UKARA registration number and then buy a decent assault rifle (if you want a cheap modern looking AK that will cut it, check this out - we can advise you on all the issues). In the meantime talk to people on here about guns and gear. Ask for opinions on anything you are considering buying and wait for replies before you hand over any wedge: there are a number of companies out there who manage to appear high in google searches but who are basically making their money by ripping off airsoft noobs. If you read Chock's thread about upgrading AK12's, once you understand how AEG's work, you could go for it (and I would replace the barrel also, as SD said), but at this stage take what our mate the Duck said on board: you probably will snap it. Not just because it's plastic; there are plenty of plastic guns which are robust enough to skirmish, but that AK12 isn't one of them. Have a read of this also. And welcome to the forums

Just bought 2 x Turnigy Nano Tech 3S 11.1V 25-50C 1200mAh batteries for my E&L AKS-74M because the 1300mAh ones I usually use do not easily fit under the top cover without an excessive amount of fiddling - $31.80 shipped / £21.45 via PayPal. Aaaaaaaand: Original Soviet SVD Drop Case - $45 posted ~ fleabay -
Oh gawd, not another T1...

Linky - not sure why it didn't work above, but this should be ok.

Not because I wrote it, but because the info is useful: good idea to read this. Also, if you haven't already found it, this is worth a look. Welcome to the forums

Airsoft is a game/sport/hobby of honour, so it's good to see the same ethos overcoming the usual internet phenomenon of people falling out with one another, gobbing off in a way for which they are later embarrassed, and disappearing into the anonymity of the aether never to refer to the incident again. We discourage chopping and changing of usernames and multiple accounts are forbidden (it's hard enough to maintain a functioning community online without trust being damaged by people wondering to whom they are speaking), so if you do wish to have a different handle Bob, by all means open a new account, but stick to the one.

How much did you pay for it? Full height, torso length, or round? -
^^I'd be interested to hear how that works out. I've had good results from a Guarder chromed brass 6.02mm TBB of about the same length, even on full-auto and occasionally using BB King ammo. Bear in mind that your FPS will jump by approx +30 (going from 6.08 to 6.03mm adds about 30FPS from barrel lengths of around 430-550mm, so the slightly tighter barrel should give about the same even though it is shorter). So you may have to visit your spring to keep within your site's limits.

Encountering awesome/honourable player
Ian_Gere replied to jeffery7466's topic in General Discussion
Yeah Col., one time a guy came through a doorway pistol drawn into a space where i was hiding behind a wide pillar: I popped out bringing my Ak up to fire and he was already aiming at me from about 1.5m... He fired before me and i was almost instinctively going to call the hit, but i didn't feel anything. I stopped to run it through in my mind again and was sure he had missed. I was wearing an H shaped harness and belt, not a vest, and he was aiming directly at my chest, so i was sure i would have felt it. He was pretty miffed that I shook my head and said no, I don't know how, but you missed. People were stacking up behind him and tensions were already a bit high due to accusations of non-hit-taking earlier (not including myself or this player), so I decided to just take it for the sake of the site's rep, harmony, fluffy clouds and bunnies, etc. But it wasn't a game where i could just regen and get back in, it was a rolling defence game so losing a life meant losing ground - I had positioned myself there intending to sacrifice myself to slow them down (as it was a timed game - winner was the team who completed the assault fastest). As it turned out I had ballsed it right up because i couldn't hide behind the pillar with my AK shouldered so, while in my mind i'd assumed they'd have to nade me to get past, which would take them a while to organise, in fact the first genuine 50/50 would have done the trick... Looking back I suspect his pistol wasn't loaded, but he didn't come to find me in the safe zone so i'll never know. I briefly considered going to find him, but decided that would look like I wanted a row so i left it. Hey ho... I was diddled out of my good luck by the expectation of sportsmanship... -
^^What length? What gun? Any other upgrades? Please let us know how you get on with it.

The Madbull TBB's are made in a 2 stage process which uses a coating to fill in the imperfections in the inner surface created during manufacture of the aluminium tube. Initially then it probably is a better choice for accuracy than the Lonex. However being a coating it is more susceptible to wear from use and cleaning than stainless steel. As a general plan then I'd say the Lonex for a gun you anticipate using on full-auto often and the Madbull for a gun you plan to use on semi-auto/single shot.

Nowt wrong with JG as a budget AEG manufacturer, but £220 sounds a bit strong. Specifically I'd look into replacing the hop rubber.

^^The problem is the Nexus connector - it's by no means cheap to get anything to do with them because they're used on helicopters so, even though they are made in the same way, using the same materials, as 1/4" TRS jacks and sockets (but they're TRRS) ie standard stereo headphone gear, somehow they're magically more valuable Unfortunately the official Microsoft headset adapter wouldn't work because it is designed for stereo headphones with a mono mic - in theory it wouldn't be difficult to make, but the problem with anything bodged is how durable would it be once attached to a controller? I've only played a few hours and i already realise that sooner or later i'm going to break the thumb sticks and, no doubt, the involuntary movements i make with my body while holding it will one day damage the standard headset fitting...

Ooooh yeah, indeed! Needs distressing though...

Does anyone know if there is a widget to allow us to connect Z-Tactical headsets to Xbox One controllers?

Set up wasn't too bad, only about 10mins of updates to d/l and swapping a few light pipes and cables around, but it turns out that plugging my TiVo into the Xbox to play through reduces the bit depth of colour of the TV signal - it looks ok on HD content but it's not something i'm prepared to put up with on most stuff (i only record stuff in HD which i would prefer to have on DVD but don't yet - being stuck at home so much due to health means i prefer to have the hundreds of hours of content recording at lo-res provides) so i've had to order an HDMI splitter so i can still attach my lappie to my telly occasionally - here's hoping the splitter lives up to the seller's blurb re: resolution... Played about 4hrs of Ori to get used to using the controller - it's going to be a while before i'm thumb-fit to face the genpop on Live Oh yeah and i think i will get one of those keyboard attachments!
-
^^Yeah, apparently it's all about the CPU socket re: the motherboard design - mine is a G2 which is what the i7 needs so i just need to make sure the BIOS is fully up to date - i have the destructions link saved somewhere so should be good to go. For £50-ish posted it's well worth it, rather than a new lappie which would cost about £550 for what i'd need to replace what i have and keep pace with software design, if my g/f's research is anything to go by. I may end up getting a new one in January, if i see something too good to miss in the sales - in which case my current one upgraded should be worth at least a one-er a few months later. Xbox One arrived this morning, but so far I just can't summon the energy to dismantle my system and integrate it. I'm concerned that I don't have a Toslink fibreoptic long enough too, but i paid for 1st Class postage for a 1m one in the wee wee hours of this morning* so it should be here 2moz, which will make the whole enterprise seem a lot more appealing since it will deffo end in success. And now i'm in danger of Ducking this post up, so i'll leave it here... *the time at which those of us of advancing years wake up to urinate.

^^Олюшка - Olyushka / means "Little Olga" - the letter "ю" is pronounced 'yoo' so the name is pronounced with emphasis on that syllable - sort of olly-OOsh-ka. -
^^I'm going to upgrade my lappie processor in advance of Windows 10 because: Bear in mind that support for Windows 7 has already ceased and Windows 8 is basically the same thing but optimised for tablets - HP Pavilion G6 lappies were designed to utilise 3 processors faster than the one which came in mine and I plan to install the fastest, an i7, so any additional heat is within the design parameters - i expect my fan will be on more often, but hey ho... that is the price of buying an E&L AKS-74M, upgrading her internals, and buying a gaming console plus games, all within a few months...

daft as it sounds, try filling the refillable bulb with CO2 - I've found i get less power that way than from a single use 12g CO2 bulb / about 355-60FPS in my Umarex Makarov (which is ok for Skirmish and some other woodland sites). -
Oh Civ is a great way to spend 3 days dying for a piss!

Thanks for the help lads, I've got a new credit card and spanked it for an Xbox One bundled with Witcher 3 and Ori for 300 notes from GAME - will buy another wireless controller from fleabay for my g/f and, in a few days when my reward points are available, Halo: The Master Chief Collection Limited Edition from GAME also, as atoms not bits (primarily for the book of maps, but also to save needing an external HD right away). Will buy CoD and a Live subscription when my thumb skillz have developed. Anyone have any recommendations on strategy games?
