That's amazing, thank you so much for your help
No problem; I am sure there are other sites locally, but those were the ones that came to mind.

You just book into events; most players are friendly and I suspect that he will make friends at whichever site(s) he attends. Players are usually happy to chat about their kit and guns.
If you are in the East Surrey/West Kent area, you could try the following:
Ace Combat (near Paddock Wood) - small, but decent for beginners.
Dog tag (near Faygate)
Driver Wood (near Crawley)
Tactical Warfare Airsoft (near New Addington) - lots of youngsters.

I would settle for retailers having stock in the first place, rather than sales.
Got an in stock reminder email from a retailer the other day for something that had been out of stock for six months or more...
That is a result of the lockdowns in China, their current policy on exporting airsoft guns, and continuing logistics issues. Retailers cannot stock what they cannot get.

I have not had any emails from either ASD or ZO
Airsoft Direct:
Pistons, seals, motors, a few RIF's that I expect are over stock items...
Zero one:
To celebrate get 10% off your orders placed before the end of New Years Day!
which is a bit tight arsed if you ask me... Most of the RIF's I am interested in are sold out.
I also looked on Patrol Base and there doesn't seem to be a sale on same for Fire Support...
Guess I will wait until next Black Friday sale.
Times are hard for everyone, including airsoft retailers; their operating costs have gone through the roof while sales have decreased, partly through unavailability of stock due to lockdowns in China and the lingering impact of logistics issues. Already tight margins have been squeezed to the point where offering discounts is not viable.

Ah I see! I won't be ordering for a while so might be able to get hold of those bits if I do end up going this direction.
A couple of quick questions about FPS and Joules:
1. I assume the weight of the BB will affect the performance of the gun in terms of accuracy and range - increasing the weight of the BB increases the accuracy but decreases the range and vice versa? How much of a difference does this make? What weight should I be looking at if I was to use the M14 at range? I assume I'd want a heavier BB to increase accuracy but how much range am I going to sacrifice?
2. My local Airsoft field doesn't have a BB weight limit (nor an FPS limit it seems) but it does have a Joules limit. This is from their website:
2.1 All weapons used will have to pass a chronograph test using the weight BB you intent to shoot and conform to the following limits:
Full Auto weapons, Pistols & Shotguns MAX 1.15 joules
Semi Auto Locked (DMR's) MAX 1.88 joules
Bolt Action Rifles MAX 2.32 joules
Does this mean that I could get the gun up to 380 FPS using .28 BBs and it would be legal?
3. Would the stock FPS be sufficient in terms of range for what I'm looking for or would I need to upgrade it somehow? What would it take to get the FPS up towards the 380-400 range?
With such limited experience, I don't really know what FPS actually looks like in the field. It says the stock FPS is 340 for the M14 but I have no idea whether or not that's sufficient for a DMR style weapon. Isn't this what most full auto guns are and DMRs/snipers are around/above 400?
Thanks again for the help so far and thanks again in advance!
1. Heavier BBs tend to give greater accuracy and longer range.
2. Yes, if it is locked to semi, although you would be very close to the limit. Bear in mind that not all chronos read the same so you could end up not being able to use it if the site chrono reads higher than your one.
3. While power has an impact on range, a high quality barrel (not a Madbull Python!), hop unit, rubber and nub are vital, as is ensuring that you have excellent airseals and that the barrel and cylinder are properly matched. To push the power up to 1.87J, you need to fit a stronger spring; to pull back that stronger spring, you are almost certainly going to need a high torque motor. However, there is far more to setting up a DMR than that.
Your site is sensible in using Joules rather than FPS; 1.88J is around 450 FPS using a 0.20g BB.
Impulse gave you good advice. -

Well, this looks like a step towards high-end guns from Double Eagle...
The M920A is an all-metal M4 with a modern look to it...
Link to Taiwan Gun product page (The product page includes a video of the Kestrel set up procedure and features)Link to a short news article
The extra-interesting part is the Bluetooth enabled control unit... which includes pre-cocking, active braking, and also auto-stop on 30 rounds fired.
Priced at 1653,84zł which converts to £313, which is a big step up in their price point (excepting the sniper rifle)
I'll be interested to see the reviews!Negative Luke was not hugely impressed with the Kestrel V2, although it may fit much better in the DE gearbox.

Quite agree. That's not just a 'classic,' 'pre-loved,' 'vintage' gat there, it's full on shabby chic. Got to be worth several quid over a new 'un.
An antiques dealer would price it at about £250.

I agree with Rogerborg; you don't need one of the in-gearbox units. A decent mosfet, such as the Perun AB++ or, if you do not want pre-cocking, a Gate NanoAAB, will do the job.
Changing the gears to 16:1 will give a slight additional improvement but a new motor, a higher voltage battery, a mosfet and Deans will probably be enough. -
The first thing to do might be to change the motor for something like an SHS or Rocket high torque one. That will give you both better trigger response and a higher rate of fire.
If that fails to please you, you could run it on an 11.1v battery, although you would be inflicting more pain on the trigger contacts and moving parts.
if it is a rear wired solid stock version, a 9.9v LiFe battery, in conjunction with one of the aforementioned motors should bring a smile to your face while not overly stressing the gears etc.
if you are going to go for a simple mosfet, make sure that it is a hardwired one rather than one of the plug and play ones; the latter do nothing to increase the longevity of your trigger contacts.
Getting rid of the fuse and changing the connectors to Deans, if they are Tamiya, will also help.

To their credit, the seem to be claiming that the L1A1 re-stock will be at the end of 2023. Something to look forward to in the new year. Might pick up a different gun or two between then.
I will believe it when I have one in my hands.

In terms of other brands, LCT seem to have finally gotten round to their SVDS. While the G3K seems a good addition to their G3/33 series. Also Lambda defence seems to have a M240L, which might precede a more vanilla m240 or even FN MAG.
Poor effort from King Arms at their stall, no L1A1 or FAL. Also they seem to be ignoring fans on social media asking after them.
Yes, very disappointed in King Arms; however, I suspect that they are aware of the limited market for the L1A1 and FAL.

Absolute comedy of errors today. Still managed to have fun, but holy crap was it annoying.
- I literally forgot my shirt. Not joking, I totally forgot to bring my MARPAT combat shirt so I had to play the whole day (as a ghillie sniper with a ghillie cape) in a black fleece instead. Good thing I practice like this during the summer, so I knew my camo and concealment fundamental skills are good and I knew what I could do and get away with having the entire front of my torso just not camo'd up at all!
- First game started, I was really hyped to play as injury and gun issues have stifled my last few game days and we were playing a part of the site we never play, which I feel we need to play more because it's great. I spend 20 minutes fighting through thick, overgrown foliage (lots of stamping down on thorns to clear a path) getting into a stupid sneaky position with my HPA VSR, which I decided to run today because it was 5 degrees celcius so not the best weather for gas guns. Got into the position, could see the whole enemy team from a lovely elevated but still well concealed hide on the flank. Lined up my first shot, pulled the trigger aaaaaaaand... click. Solenoid activated and no air came out. Checked my tank and it was empty, so I have a leak somewhere.
- Tested my hicapa back in the safe zone and one of the mags feed lips decided they didn't want to be there any more and sheared off, snapping and flying off somewhere. The spring and follower thankfully remained in the magazine, but need new feed lips for one of my hicapa mags now. Ugh!
- Went back to the safe zone and sighted in my m700 that I also brought as a backup. I brought my 2J m700 build since the sight lines are longer at Worthing through the winter and as it was 2J on 144a in 11 degrees celcius, so I figured with more powerful gas it'd be fine at 5 celcius. Went to chrono it with the ASG ultraair I have (which is a little bit stronger than standard green gas, let alone 144a) and it was coming up between 0.9J at the lowest and 1.16J at the highest. Not what I wanted, but at least it was working, conveniently without any MED, and it was sailing the .48s out there so I went out to use that after lunch and had a LOT of fun. On a timed attack and defend game I was the only one who went around on one flank and kept about 10 people occupied by myself (and started picking them all off as they couldn't pinpoint or hit me). Was a lot of impact and I ran out of ammo (3x 28rd mags goes fast fighting 10 people, though I can usually make them last!)
- Got back to the safe zone afterwards, packing stuff away aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand... the AEP lipo in my mp7 tears the end off when I take it out, totally breaking the battery. I go to tape it up so I can battery bin it tomorrow (my local Lidl has a battery bin) and it starts sparking and burning through the tape. The site tech basically pulls the metal contacts off the wires inside so it no longer does that and I tape it all up for the battery bin tomorrow.
I can't think of much more that could've realistically gone wrong, but I still managed to get out there and have a bit of fun. Christmas game next game day, so I'm thinking of wearing some festive reindeer antlers and taking a bolt action rifle; usually reindeer are the hunted, so I'm going to turn that around and have the reindeer become the hunter 😈
One of those days when the world conspires to stop you enjoying yourself but you still manage to.

This morning I wandered off to Tower Airsoft in Essex, which is one of my regular sites. It is a small site with some good structures including a castle, a church, a village and a bridge. It also seems to attract a good type of player. Their game days are run very well by Miguel, who some may know from CAMO, a shop and CQB site on Canvey Island (home of the magnificent Dr. Feelgood).
I have been there when there were 100+ people, although the usual attendance is about 40 to 50. On this cold morning, with a pretty grim weather forecast, 20 people turned up.
It really was cold and I was very pleased to have my French army heavyweight fleece for the pre-game time in the morning; it is the warmest item of clothing that I have ever owned.
Despite, or maybe because of, the lack of numbers, it was a very good day. The games were well adapted to the low number of players and ran well, with good play from both sides. Alongside "normal" airsoft games, there was a fun game of armed American Football, using the bus windows as goals. Trying to score a field goal proved to be a somewhat perilous activity. Perhaps it will catch on as a new sport.
Guns used:
LCT PP-19-01 "Is than an MP5?" 🤬
APS UAR, with King Arms AK style M4 mags, just to make it look even weirder. 😈Milbro Classic CO2 M1911.

How much play/wobble is a lot?
Sending it back is a bit dramatic; as EDcase has stated, some slight bending usually gets it to fit better if required. Not that different from the real ones. -

I don't think that's quite right, before covid a pallet from China cost around £450, then went to around £600 and now back down to around the same as before. Are you sure it was for a pallet and not a 20ft container? Every day I get messages from Chinese freight agents all fighting each other for business and dropping their prices on a weekly basis.
There's a clear difference though between the pricing of sea freight and domestic (Royal Mail) shipping. In fact in the past 6 months RM have reduced the price of small parcels. Currently £3.95 for Tracked 24 (1st class) for 2kg parcel, fully tracked, email and text message with photo.
Freight shipping costs from China are indeed back to where they were before Covid or even below. Shipping companies (as in the people who run the ships rather than shipping agents) are reducing the number of voyages in an attempt to prevent their income collapsing completely by. With many factories in China closed because of the constant lockdowns and a slump in demand, there is more shipping capacity than is needed.
However, with Winnie the Pooh now secure in his third term in office, it seems that the lockdown policy in China is easing, so more product might be available soon.
The Sales or lack thereof...

Shipping rates from China have also dropped to the extent that shipping lines are limiting the number of voyages to try to push the rates up.
For some reason, export of RIFs is now only allowed through Hong Kong.
