What is good eye pro to replace my Bolle X800?
RostokMcSpoons replied to Harvem's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Yeah I can see that if you're wearing the ESS goggles over a helmet, the hinge structure that allows the headband strap to expand outwards over the top of the helmet creates a noticeable gap in the sides. It'd still be unlucky to have a shot find it's way through, but we've got to be all about taking luck out of the equation when it comes to keeping our eyesight. So if I ever get a helmet, I'll ditch them, but at the moment I still run with caps / hats which don't create that problem. In the meantime I'll strip off the foam bits and run them with the lenses in the safer 'back' position. Edit: And I've ordered some semi-rigid fine plastic mesh which I can glue on to provide some extra protection for the vent holes... which might be overkill but I'll see if it'll make me feel safer! -

OK thanks for that info.. I'll take a look at gluing some more mesh over the top... -

I'm using a set of ESS British Army surplus goggles. Full seal, and once you know to pop the lenses away from the face to open the vents, they're pretty good at not fogging up (any movement will get enough air through those vents to clear them) Dirt cheap too! (Well mine were, looks like they're ~£30 at the moment) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/175352472498 -
Are Yanks allowed in here?

Hi, welcome to the forum What's the story with "gel blasters" and airsoft there? I must admit I was basically clueless about gel blasters until a YouTube Short fell into my stream. I thought they were confined to Asia for a start, and basically ignored them! -
A side-question about the Cyma M14 (CM.032, not the SOCOM version)... the length of pull (trigger to butt plate) feels very short at ~13". I researched on t'web and the Garand had a LoP of 16.5" Have the airsoft versions (both TM and Cyma) been scaled down for Asian markets, 7/8th scale perhaps, to make them more sellable in that market? Hah. To answer my own question, the M14 had a shorter LoP than the Garand. At (drum-roll) 13.5" Why didn't I search for that instead of the Garand M1? The 'What have you just bought' Thread

Didn't post about my M14 when I bought it from the classifieds here, so making up for lost time... and just dropped through my letterbox is a holster (and MOLLE adapter) for my TM Hi Capa DOR It looks a bit like the Amomax holster from an earlier post, but it's an AliExpress special, so the thing is glued together rather than bolted, and the release button doesn't look as good... but it was cheap* and otherwise seems like it's good enough. Holster: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001339411443.html Adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001365697637.html * The Amomax holster and adapters on eBay are actually cheaper than I thought, might as well save yourself a shipping delay and buy them, tbh. -
Cyma M14 - needs a bit of fettling
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Electric Guns
Thanks Lozart, much appreciated! Actually I read the description of the ZCI barrel, it comes with a groove + O-ring near the end of the barrel to stabilize it within the outer barrel... I don't even need to break out the electrician's tape it seems! However, it's £30 I don't necessarily need to spend... I might actually be less lazy / efficient and just try the hop rubber and give the barrel a good clean-out to see if that improves matters anyway... then I could spend the £30 on the new motor instead. Funnily enough I've just eaten a few jaffa cakes. Chocolate gone melty. Bwaaaah. But still delicious of course Well, it's not surprising but I had to ask. In fact I already fired off a quote request to Cage, to fix my F2000 (which still has a problem with the COL / trigger sledge and jams after a few shots) to test the waters, and did ask if they could do anything on the price for a bunch of guns. -

Isn't his waiting list about 3 months longer than the wait for the Second Coming? I could give it a try... Do any of these guys discount for multiple guns? I could send.... (counts out loud on fingers) seven guns to get fixed / fettled if I wasn't going to get absolutely ravaged on the total cost. Shipping might be 'fun' too. Excellent, thanks, that saved me from a silly mistake! Actually, is shorter an option? AK2M4 has the 494mm in stock, everything longer is out of stock. Is a bit of tape around the end of the barrel enough to locate it properly? (I'm just asking these potentially stupid questions so I can try to do all the hop and barrel work in one go, rather than two. The heat is making me feel lazy) -

I thought as I picked this one up for a very reasonable price I might use the 'saving' to have a professional fettle it for me... so Cage Airsoft sprung to mind... do they have a good rep? -

RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Electric Guns
Yeah it could definitely do with some improvement... Is that a straight swap or did you have to re-shim the gearbox? Does it need an 11.1v battery to drive it properly? I really don't want to open the gearbox, my tech'ing skills don't appear to be up to the job Oh, and I take it the inner barrel is 550mm? @ak2m4 - any idea when you'll have more stock? -

Ordered the rubber and nub... and also ordered a scope mount off AliExpress so I can go for the Black Hawk Down look. There aren't of these darned things anywhere I could find in the UK, so it'll probably take weeks to arrive... but it'll be cool. (But this gun is going to be HEAVY when it's got a sight on it too) Is it worth getting a ZCI inner barrel too? -
I've picked up a nice Cyma CM.032 M14 rifle from the classifieds. It's in great nick physically but it is chrono-ing a tiny bit on the low side (315fps with 0.20's) That's not an enormous issue, but the fact it's not wanting to hop 0.28's rather is. So I think I need to try a new hop rubber in there... but I've looked at the disassembly videos - they look a bit .... involved. Please give me some confidence I'm not going to bugger it up Any recommendations for a good hop rubber (and nub)? Also, the stock, being long and all-plastic, is a bit creaky at the front end... are there any easy fixes for that?

Would a zoom optic on an AEG make any sense?

I've made a full offer on an LVPO 1.25-5 scope, so I'm going to give it another go... it looks cool if nothing else (Hey @FruitNinja20, check your PM's when you've got stuff for sale ;)) -

The 'What have you just bought' Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Cameron364's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
I just bought one of the iSoft Full Auto Tracer units being sold as "might work, might not, buy it as a suppressor" things from Airsoft World. £8, so yeah, reasonable price for a standard suppressor. https://www.airsoftworld.net/isoft-t-1000-tracer-unit-suppressor-14mm-ccw.html Well consider this a Public Service Announcement, which might well apply to all tracer units... The bore of this is much tighter than a standard mock suppressor. It turns out my DE M905C doesn't have a perfectly aligned inner barrel - it's drooped(?) low - so when I test fired a few rounds through it, the BBs bounced off the inside of the unit, and flew off at disconcerting angles on the way down the garden! Unfortunately I can see it's cracked the inner sleeve around the BB sensor so any chance I had of a tracer unit is probably gone... But, hey-ho... £8. And it'll probably be fine on my other guns. My Novritsch modular suppressor is absolutely fine on the DE, so it'll stay there. -

As I need a 7.4v lipo and some BBs anyway... I chucked this in the cart... if Spec Ops CQB site does open soon then a tracer (if it works) would be cool. If it doesn't... well it's cheaper than most fake suppressors on the market anway - so no harm done. I like suppressors on my guns -

Yeah, very true. I'm not going to go to prison (or even court, or even a police station) for that twat, but would never shed a tear for him if he got his just desserts from someone who had nothing to lose, and dispensed some DIY 'justice'... -

Super-general-purpose do-everything mag pouches...?
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Riiiiiiight... So I found the very first mag pouch I bought, but discarded (not having a proper MOLLE attachment)... it actually works great for M4 (as expected) and AUG mags, and it's workable with the M14 mags once the bungee is well loosened off. So I've ordered 4 of these from AliExpress, hoping that mine is in fact the 7.62 version You can see the construction from the grey version, I ordered green. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/4001220175776.html £3.50 each! Plus a tenner for postage for the 4 of 'em. The only problem I've got now is it'll take a month to turn up. Should I return the WAS pouches for a refund? I guess I should, I could always re-order them. -
Novritsch sell camo gun covers. I bought a cover that was on sale in the hope it would fit ok, and with a bit of stretching it did, and so the gun looks like this, no permanent painting required: If you're less stingy than me you could buy the actual M4-compliant cover and it would no doubt be even better, but even this does enough to break up the long horizontal 'slab of black' which can be easily seen at distance. (Your hands and arms will block / break up much of the lower receiver and mag, especially from the front) I think this illustrates the worth of it pretty well... side-on is the worst case scenario, and at short range the movement gives away much more than shapes... but even at this super close distance, the only thing that really shows up is the magazine, mag well, and sight. And as someone else mentioned, vertical lines are much more natural than horizontal ones. The super-easy alternative to the camo cover is to get some green or camo scrim and wrap it around the barrel and fore-end, and tie it on with string or (sniper's) tape.

The " What's Your Best / Worst Ever Purchase? " Thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to AirsoftTed's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Best: Double Eagle M906C. It's been brilliant ever since I bought it. (Apart from the stock spring losing its oomph, which cost all of £12 to replace) My TM Hi Capa DOR has been smile-inducing too, so that gets a big 'Honourable Mention'... that was a good value purchase as well. Worst: Actually there's nothing I totally regret... I suppose my Tippmann M4 might be considered the biggest disappointment. As it's my most expensive purchase - perhaps a bit overpriced - I rather expected it would be my best gun. It's not there yet, but there's still hope I'll get it fettled eventually, and it'll become my true primary. Oh yeah, I bought a set of Lonex flash mags. Great bits of kit, but the one gun they don't seem very compatible with is ... the DE M906. They unwind as soon as they're inserted. Damn them. Hopefully a bit of packing or filing will sort them out. EDIT: It seems I wasn't putting enough BBs into the flash mags... once they're filled up properly and then wound up, they fit in all my guns without unwinding. Result! And a lesson that 'testing' and 'using for real' are useless when they're very different - in this case my test was useless! -
Spec Ops have always mandated Bio BBs and I think I've heard of just one instance of bits of a BB getting through a mesh mask in the (checks notes) 'several' times I've been there. It's a shame if they don't break down as we expect... I'm all for leaving the woodland environment and wildlife as undamaged and unaffected as reasonably possible. It could also be one more (small) thing to beat the sport down on.
