  1. As I've mentioned in a couple of other threads, Spec Ops is opening a CQB site shortly and it'll be the first time I've played airsoft indoors. I'm an old man in his 50's with bad hearing, especially in my left ear, caused by excessively loud music (falling drunkenly asleep with my head on a speaker cab at a Throbbing Gristle gig probably doing a lot of damage on its own), and a lot of small-bore and full-bore shooting when I was younger. I always wore ear pro when actually shooting, but for a long time I'd be standing just behind the firing line without it - just like everyone else - but so stupid in hindsight! I'm also afflicted with moderate tinnitus which I don't want to make any worse. So what's good for ear protection in a CQB environment? I don't know if flash-bangs will be allowed (I hope not, but let's assume the worst), but even a Firehawk in a confined space will not be good. I want a sensible balance of ear pro vs tactical awareness, because if I spend my entire time getting shot, well, I'll probably not be back I'm a complete noob when it comes to current tech and trends... are pairs of ear plugs with the metal valves inside "still a thing" these days? Or do I get some moulded foam ones? I probably want to avoid the full headset / earcup deal, unless there's a good reason... Any thoughts much appreciated
  2. Cool so you have already enjoyed Carlos's hospitality. Yup looking forward to the cqb to at least try, I'm not sure it's really my thing. I think short guns will have an advantage just for being easier to manouvre around corners and point more quickly. Luckily my Double Eagle m906c is already quite compact and I've got the TM AUG HC which is even smaller. Plus a pistol too. Should be fine! Obligatory recommendation for Double Eagle M9nn guns as excellent value and decent quality
  3. I don't know about Sabotage, I'll go for a search later. There's Sentinel down near Dunstable which I've not tried yet, and I think there's a site near Towcester as well. A little further afield Finmere looks like an excellent site but events are quite infrequent there I think
  4. Spec Ops down at Olney, just outside MK is worth a visit... Its small, friendly and well run, but the woodland site is currently shut due to the council blocking its use at the moment. However a new indoor CQB site will be open shortly. I'll let you know when there's more info
  5. Interesting! I don't know if there are 'map designers for hire', but I'm pretty sure you could get a decent crowd-opinion from the residents of this forum... My contribution: a slightly bigger picture of the same area... and some questions The tunnel - is it lit inside? how wide is it? Where's the exit? It actually looks like quite a big playing area, but with not much cover across the top of the tunnel? That'd be the area I'd expect you need to concentrate use of pallets, tyres etc. It'd be good to see some close-up shots from ground level to judge changes in elevation, vegetation etc
  6. Mr @Rogerborg I do believe you have too much time on your hands ?
  7. Nope, 904g all polymer, other 904s are (I believe) polymer receiver + metal handguard, 906/7/8 are all metal. 916 is all polymer at patrol base, but Taiwangun have a specific metal handguard version too. They also have a 909 series which is all metal 916? IIRC / to the best of my understanding ☺️ Edit: looking at a few of the 904's on TWG, it seems most of the 904's are all polymer with just one or two with metal hand guards. Choice is much more limited on the UK retailers though
  8. Maybe he's giving up airsoft cos he can't work out why he's so unpopular at every site...
  9. (When I said Tippmann's chug along, I just checked on my chrono and it's currently at 16.5rps. Much the same as my DE M906 on 11.1v, and perfectly acceptable IMHO)
  10. Bah humbug. I've had more chances to try the lonex mags in my guns now, and although they will all feed ok they tend to unwind as soon as I insert them in the Tippmann and F2000. I can obviously wind them up quite quickly again in situ, but that is not tactical in any way, shape or form. So is there a fix? Do I need to shave off plastic from the top of the mag so it sits deeper, or do I actually need to shim more in there? Edit: Resurrecting this dead post because I just came across it, and the solution was simple: Don't test hi-cap mags in guns when there are only 20-30 BBs inside, it doesn't generate the correct tension and they unwind when inserted. Full mags don't do it. So I was basically dissing the Lonex mags for no good reason!
  11. Just put some lube through the system and swapped the O-ring on the bolt over. Also filed down a little plastic inside the nozzle from the where the dwell mod screw goes in. Just fired a few dozen 0.20g BBs through it to see how consistent the fps is now, and it's still inconsistent. But not unusably so? It's varying from 390-420 but the majority are at 405. It's set pretty much at max power I think with no hop applied, so I think there must be something still wrong as it surely ought to be capable of quite a bit more. But it's getting better. I'll try a different barrel.
  12. Thank you so much, that did the trick, and so of course the line came straight off the small tank without any effort!
  13. I'm going to jump into this thread cos I'm slightly stuck at the next stage of "filling up at home"... I've attached the small cylinder to the tank successfully, gently filled it up to 2.5k psi (rated at 3k) and so that went fine. The main tanks' valve is now definitely closed. But I'm getting some resistance from trying to disconnect the line from the small tank. I obviously am aware that high pressures aren't to be messed with and neither do I want to damage anything so I thought I'd best double-check: I am supposed to be pulling back on the knurled silver collar nearest to the black tank to release the line. There should only be a little residual pressure inside the line now, as the valve on the small tank will be closed too (due to the higher pressure within). That silver collar doesn't want to budge (presumably due to the residual pressure) so I'm going to have to lever it (as gently as possible) to make it disconnect. Correct? I'm not heading towards a "kinetic reduction in finger counting ability" am I?
  14. Yeah, I've not seen a 907 in the flesh but I think that's a 'forged vs billet' look... or is that 907 vs 908? I forget. I did ask the question back when I was choosing the DE in the first place... but the big diff is the 904's polymer vs 907 metal receiver. I think some of the 904s have aluminium handguards, it's just(?) the G that is entirely polymer. I know lots of people talk about Chinesium pot-metal etc but to be honest I'm not sure I could tell the difference between good and bad metal in the guns I've seen. So I may not be the ideal judge on the DE. But damn it I love the thing regardless: Someone here claimed (a long time ago) that 'reliability' was an endearing characteristic. I pooh-poohed it at the time, but I've since entirely come around to that idea, given how well the DE has worked for me in the six months I've had it (with the exception of when the spring turned to cheese and the FPS fell off a cliff!) On the day I got it, plus Kobra red-dot. Current loadout with the camo cover (not done up properly on the stock)... and suppressor, stubby foregrip, PTS EPS stock, Amazon-special red dot, Lonex flash mag, single point sling attachment.
  15. My M906C is a champ. Granted most of it is covered up by a Novritsch camo sleeve (front handguard, upper receiver, stock), but the exposed bits (mag well) haven't scratched at all, and it's it's seen plenty of rough action (yub yub, wibble). The metal seems pretty good to me, but then I've got limited experience with newer, top tier guns to compare with. The Spec Ops site runs some DE904Gs and I've only seen them in passing but they looked respectable and the site tech likes them. (The site also uses a lot of G&G Combat Machines, which I used a couple of times before I got my DE, and they were good too) The only thing we've had that's bad on the DE's is the provided spring. It's gets tired very quickly. So chuck that out and put in a better one for a tenner. Quick Change spring system means even I managed without buggering up the gun, and it took 5 minutes. A better hop rubber is a good idea too - but that's pretty standard advice for any gun.
  16. D'oh! I forgot that! I've only ever played woodland. Spec Ops in MK are going to open a CQB site soon, it seems, so I'll pop that cherry...
  17. I think I need a special key on my keyboard that always pastes this link https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m904g-honey-badger-w-fire-control-system-edition?pv=13200 I think the only real downside to it is it's not a high RoF beast, so might not be so ideal for CQB. The CM.041L linked above with an advertised 25rps might be the better (but substantially more expensive) bet on that front.
  18. Hi! Thanks for solving the mystery for me ? Mine is a v2 so it has the tdc hop as standard. It has a tight bore barrel in it at the moment.. Ive got a few guns where I could swap similar length barrels and go back to a standard bore, see how that works out. Is had the dwell mood but nothing else (as far as I can tell / what I've been told) Madbull seem to be the preferred hop rubber, I'll order one!
  19. Sorry to bump my own thread, but hey ho... Well I just decided to try out my gun to see what it's shooting at right now... and things have perhaps taken a turn for the much, much worse. But as I'm trying HPA for the first time, maybe it's just a 'thing'. Knowing my luck.. it's not. Basically I went through maybe a hundred rounds of BBs in single shot with chrono attached. It seemed to be being 'respectable' in the velocity variance - a few outliers at 350 and 390 but mostly at 365-375. Too hot for skirmishing, but it's just testing. I thought I'd give a few bursts on full auto, to check the RoF. This is when things went South on me... the RoF seemed quite variable. Then it started firing in bursts. Then semi-auto started firing in full auto, and eventually it went full run-away firing at ever faster rates until it sounded like a very fast fart, and just kept going until I shut the valve. The gun still seems to function in that I can cock it and the trigger won't fire on safe, but does on single and full auto. But when I reattach the air and turn it, it goes run-away full auto again. The only thing I can see is the air pressure in the tank is quite low (less than 1k.... maybe 800psi?) but I think that's surely enough to make the gun function properly. And I can't imagine people wanting to use HPA if it does that just because it's low on air! So have I got a shagged gun? What's the fix? Edit: Oh thank Gaaawd. Yes, low pressure can cause "the fart of death" where the sear doesn't engage and it does the run away thing. Not very user-friendly but something I can watch out for!
  20. Tippmann's chug along rather being the high-RoF-overkill-machines some of the other HPAs are... I'm ok with that given the extra immersion of the recoil, but it's personal preference really.
  21. I bought a v2 recently. It's great fun to shoot, but not shooting as well as I'd like. So do test fire it before buying, and really you want to shoot it somewhere where you can ensure it's accurate at 40+ metres, not just at short range. This means the gun's power, innate accuracy (or lack) and the effectiveness of the hop can be gauged. Ideally take some heavier BBs with you for testing the hop. (If you can only test at short range, make sure it feeds properly in semi and full auto as the minimum. Try to take a chrono to test the velocity variance isn't too much) I started a Tippmann owner's thread, so feel free to bung specific questions in there. In terms of maintenance, the stuff I've meddled with so far has been quite 'mechanical' and simple - easier so far than fiddling with an AEG gearbox. But then again it's not working quite right yet... I'm a million miles from being the right person to ask
  22. I want you all to buy one. And then tell me whether they're any good. And then sell me one at an insanely knocked-down price. Ok?
  23. Well that's half the battle right there, isn't it I think the AM014 was the first of the 'new and improved' airsoft guns I'd seen, after my initial shopping for TM / Classic Army guns, and I was mightily impressed with the polymer body's build quality (compared to the somewhat flimsier feeling construction of the TM AK). It was a cool gun. Glad it's been reliable for you
  24. When I hear "honey Badger", I think of the original Ares with the top and bottom handstops. Is that the specific look you want? Given the low regard for Ares reliability, but if it's really just the long hand guard you're after, then I humbly suggest https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m904a-honey-badger-rifle-w-falcon-fire-control-system
  25. It's ironic how, given the Orion sales spiel, what an absolutely shite reputation it has for being poorly manufactured and prone to failure (This quote isn't directly from Specna, but no doubt gifted to a review site by their marketing team) "ORION gearbox is based on a reinforced frame and equipped with the function of the main spring release. The gearbox has arrays of high-grade parts right out of the box, which makes it characteristic for its reliability and preparedness for further tuning. ORION gearbox is ready for cooperation with M140 springs"
