Too late for me, I ordered one already!

Asomodai's old AUG HC definitely has me covered for shortness. And hawtness It will be interesting to see how things develop in a brand new site where the internal layout will probably start off being "just plain wrong", a preponderance of cqb-inexperienced players and marshals... should make for some fun'n'games in the early days. (You know I've always liked that word... 'preponderance', so rarely have an opportunity to use it in a sentence) I get the need for a helmet and full face mask. But in my bid to be cheap-skate early doors, I'll stick to my lower face / ears mask and a stout baseball cap.

Thanks Lozart. The idea of bb's rolling around on a concrete floor gives me the absolute fear, I've got chocolate ankles as it is, so retaining some support is a must. However, I've been thinking I'd like some lighter weight boots for summer, as the para boots must weigh a kilo or so each... this is a good excuse! "You WILL experience worse hit taking, shorter tempers and overkilling. But you might also have the best day of airsoft ever. CQB has always been very hit or miss for me, the good days are epic, the bad ones are horrible." Yeah, all those bad points are why I'm not going to over-invest early... I might hate it. We'll see. A couple more mags for the AUG carbine and a pair of lighter boots are definitely on the cards though

If there's any sort of ambient noise I have to ask people to stand on my right if they don't want to repeat everything twice. It does suck Still, my self-inflicted damage from a number of years of accidental abuse I can sort-of live with. Poor old Andy Partridge of XTC got all his shit in one go: "What is your greatest regret? Being in the studio on the afternoon I got tinnitus. This complete fucking dolt of an engineer pressed the wrong button while I was checking a supposedly silent loop with the desk at full volume, and generated a click track that went off like gunshots in my head. It left me with extreme tinnitus that I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy. I contemplated suicide, just to stop it. This was ten years ago now."

If I enjoy CQB then I'll definitely look at the good headsets. Actually the idea of a headset that ups the volume on all the stuff I want to hear, while suppressing the loud / bad stuff, sounds like a good thing for a partially deaf bloke! Taking my own thread rather off-topic, what else do I need to consider when going from woodland to indoor CQB? Obviously I could ditch all my camo gear, but should I do things like swap my para boots for trainers? Do I choose the shortest gun in my collection? Do I go for a lightweight loadout, or am I actually likely to run less and it doesn't matter? Do I need as many mags? Honestly it's appears to be so different in game style I'm not sure where to begin! (I know some of this will be dependent on just how big the play area is, how long sight-lines are in my site, and whether its full auto or not... etc etc etc, but some general hints would be welcome)

Surprisingly easy to blow a big chunk of cash on airsoft... GLBS DAS GDR416 £1,950 (not including iron sights!) Vortex Spitfire HD Gen II 5x Prism Scope £440 Titan 11.1v £45 Throw in a bunch of good mags, a decent plate carrier / harness, some Crye camo gear, and I reckon you'll top £3K quite easily with a very nice 'sensible' kit. Or there's this Neither seem to have mounting points for a stripper pole though. I fail on being 'creative'

Hey, I'll let you all know how those £12.50 ear plugs work out for me, might save you all a few quid 🤪
-
Ah yes of course it's possible the screw had worked loose and actually the seal was fine... I'll remember just to give the screw a tweak regularly... I've just checked the other mag was ok too.
-
I just took it apart, covered the main seal with a good smear of my cheapo Silverhook silicone grease, and it's back to holding gas The seal looked fine, was still 'elastic', which goes to show that it's a fine line between success and failure in this airsofting lark, isn't it?

Cheers guys, much appreciated

I've already got ear protection from my lower face mask (OneTigris), but I might actually want to transition to a full-face mask for added protection, if I enjoy my first CQB experiences... I hadn't thought of all that when I asked my question. Not sure that the Peltors (which I've heard of but will need to research) will be compatible? So I'll go look for SureFire plugs first.. if they're cheap(ish) then they'll do a job until I know whether CQB is for me Cheers chaps! Edit: I've found that Surefire EP4s are available at Amazon for £18, and maybe in different sizes? Or on eBay as British Army surplus for only £12.50 (mediums I think) https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/384709062285?chn=ps&mkevt=1&mkcid=28 Sod it, ordered the ebay ones, they're so cheap.

It's a Philips screw on these TM mags... thanks

I've had a gassed-up mag in my TM 5.1 lying around for yonks (i.e. since my last skirmish many weeks ago) I happened to dry-fire it until it was empty a few days back, and remembered today to re-gas it to ensure the seals didn't dry out. Well dang it, it seems they have already, because as I inject the gas it just comes straight back out around the base of the mag. I've tried a couple of different cans of gas, both with same result (and they work on my other mag) So what's the procedure in fixing it?

As I've mentioned in a couple of other threads, Spec Ops is opening a CQB site shortly and it'll be the first time I've played airsoft indoors. I'm an old man in his 50's with bad hearing, especially in my left ear, caused by excessively loud music (falling drunkenly asleep with my head on a speaker cab at a Throbbing Gristle gig probably doing a lot of damage on its own), and a lot of small-bore and full-bore shooting when I was younger. I always wore ear pro when actually shooting, but for a long time I'd be standing just behind the firing line without it - just like everyone else - but so stupid in hindsight! I'm also afflicted with moderate tinnitus which I don't want to make any worse. So what's good for ear protection in a CQB environment? I don't know if flash-bangs will be allowed (I hope not, but let's assume the worst), but even a Firehawk in a confined space will not be good. I want a sensible balance of ear pro vs tactical awareness, because if I spend my entire time getting shot, well, I'll probably not be back I'm a complete noob when it comes to current tech and trends... are pairs of ear plugs with the metal valves inside "still a thing" these days? Or do I get some moulded foam ones? I probably want to avoid the full headset / earcup deal, unless there's a good reason... Any thoughts much appreciated

Cool so you have already enjoyed Carlos's hospitality. Yup looking forward to the cqb to at least try, I'm not sure it's really my thing. I think short guns will have an advantage just for being easier to manouvre around corners and point more quickly. Luckily my Double Eagle m906c is already quite compact and I've got the TM AUG HC which is even smaller. Plus a pistol too. Should be fine! Obligatory recommendation for Double Eagle M9nn guns as excellent value and decent quality

I don't know about Sabotage, I'll go for a search later. There's Sentinel down near Dunstable which I've not tried yet, and I think there's a site near Towcester as well. A little further afield Finmere looks like an excellent site but events are quite infrequent there I think
-
Spec Ops down at Olney, just outside MK is worth a visit... Its small, friendly and well run, but the woodland site is currently shut due to the council blocking its use at the moment. However a new indoor CQB site will be open shortly. I'll let you know when there's more info

Airsoft map designer needed for hire
RostokMcSpoons replied to VoskePsihopata's topic in General Discussion
Interesting! I don't know if there are 'map designers for hire', but I'm pretty sure you could get a decent crowd-opinion from the residents of this forum... My contribution: a slightly bigger picture of the same area... and some questions The tunnel - is it lit inside? how wide is it? Where's the exit? It actually looks like quite a big playing area, but with not much cover across the top of the tunnel? That'd be the area I'd expect you need to concentrate use of pallets, tyres etc. It'd be good to see some close-up shots from ground level to judge changes in elevation, vegetation etc -
Mr @Rogerborg I do believe you have too much time on your hands 😆
-
Nope, 904g all polymer, other 904s are (I believe) polymer receiver + metal handguard, 906/7/8 are all metal. 916 is all polymer at patrol base, but Taiwangun have a specific metal handguard version too. They also have a 909 series which is all metal 916? IIRC / to the best of my understanding ☺️ Edit: looking at a few of the 904's on TWG, it seems most of the 904's are all polymer with just one or two with metal hand guards. Choice is much more limited on the UK retailers though

Macks airsoft dreamers of the week thread
RostokMcSpoons replied to Mack's topic in General Discussion
Maybe he's giving up airsoft cos he can't work out why he's so unpopular at every site... -
Considering HPA, Noob in need of help!!!
RostokMcSpoons replied to Wraithspider's topic in High Pressure Air
(When I said Tippmann's chug along, I just checked on my chrono and it's currently at 16.5rps. Much the same as my DE M906 on 11.1v, and perfectly acceptable IMHO) -
M4 mags, why don't they all just get along???
RostokMcSpoons replied to RostokMcSpoons's topic in Guns, Gear & Loadouts
Bah humbug. I've had more chances to try the lonex mags in my guns now, and although they will all feed ok they tend to unwind as soon as I insert them in the Tippmann and F2000. I can obviously wind them up quite quickly again in situ, but that is not tactical in any way, shape or form. So is there a fix? Do I need to shave off plastic from the top of the mag so it sits deeper, or do I actually need to shim more in there? Edit: Resurrecting this dead post because I just came across it, and the solution was simple: Don't test hi-cap mags in guns when there are only 20-30 BBs inside, it doesn't generate the correct tension and they unwind when inserted. Full mags don't do it. So I was basically dissing the Lonex mags for no good reason! -
Just put some lube through the system and swapped the O-ring on the bolt over. Also filed down a little plastic inside the nozzle from the where the dwell mod screw goes in. Just fired a few dozen 0.20g BBs through it to see how consistent the fps is now, and it's still inconsistent. But not unusably so? It's varying from 390-420 but the majority are at 405. It's set pretty much at max power I think with no hop applied, so I think there must be something still wrong as it surely ought to be capable of quite a bit more. But it's getting better. I'll try a different barrel.

Beginner to HPA, filling tank up at home.
RostokMcSpoons replied to maxey's topic in High Pressure Air
Thank you so much, that did the trick, and so of course the line came straight off the small tank without any effort!
