  1. ... not for long!
  2. I'm guessing they're less "offensive to the eye" when spotted lying around. Also perhaps they're less likely to be eaten by wildlife. These are things that have already occurred to me because I'm not impressing t'wife with the scattering of bright white BBs across the end of the garden (that show zero deterioration, in spite of being 'bio'). So I've already though about getting some black BBs for garden plinking.
  3. Yes, the instructions made it clear there'd a hole needing to be cut into the gearbox to ensure the circuit board would lie flat (due to a bluetooth sensor sticking out on the reverse side), to allow the gearbox shell to close - something Luke pointed out a couple of times wasn't happening before he sorted it. So yeah definitely not a 'drop-in' job and the "not recommended" conclusion seems justified.
  4. Luke's last video is of him installing an Eshooter Kestrel electronic trigger unit. It didn't go smoothly. Normally I'd take that as a sensible warning to stick with the Peruns if I ever feel so bold, and leave it at that. But... another video popped up on my feed, from someone who was doing a sponsored review (so can be taken with several shovels of salt). However this chap pointed out a bunch of things in the instructions, followed them, avoided the pitfalls Luke had fallen into, and came out with a working gun at the other end of it. Of course any 'dramas' would have gone missing in the edit, I'm sure, but still the fact Luke's more gung-ho "I know this stuff, I'll chuck it in" approach might have meant he'd had more problems than he needed to. (I'd still stick with a Perun over the Kestrel, naturally) As for working on fixing one of my many broken / partly malfunctioning guns - I suspect I wouldn't actually use him as (1) he has a famously long waiting list to get stuff done (2) he'd absolutely rip the piss out of me on camera for my attempted fixes etc and I couldn't cope with the embarrassment I'd entirely trust him to keep working on a gun until it operates properly though.
  5. I just bought a cheapo sniper rifle too, just to dip a toe in the water... I bought some Geoff's .40s and the gun shoots quite nicely. But it's inconsistent. I'll get 3 shots looking bang-on, but then I'll get one or two off to the right - either going straight right or curving off a bit. At 15m I think might be missing by 4 or 5 inches - I'll stick a paper target up and measure it properly. The barrel looks clean all the way through. I'm guessing that sort of behaviour warrants a new hop rubber and nub as a starting point... but I'm also aware it might be the start of a long and expensive journey, so I've resolved to leave it alone until I can test it at greater range and put a decent number of shots through it. Edit: a very quick string of 6 shots.. 1 flier, low-left, the rest in a 1.75" group - which goes to show that shots may look worse through the scope than they actually are...! I did dial in some more hop after a few warm-up shots away from the target, so perhaps my previous shots weren't back-spinning enough to stabilise them properly?
  6. I'd like to see one up close. I hanker after a deactivated No4 with a working bolt that can cycle deactivated rounds, this might scratch the itch for a bit less cash. And let me do some plinking with it too. Edit: Not much less cash... de-activated no4's are available with cycling bolt / dry fire / removable mag for £850. I suspect the breech will be welded up so won't take dummy rounds, but it's the bolt-action itself that I have some weird case of "whatever-the-physical-version-of-ASMR-is"
  7. That's a slightly trickier proposition than the usual scope tube, but I'd give Red Dot Engineering on eBay a shout, as they've made some very good sight protectors for a range of hardware. The lenses are polycarbonate so they're not "sacrificial" they're properly BB resistant. And they 3D print the lens holder - typically it's slightly elastic material which looks decent and won't fall off. And they're not expensive. Example protector for 'Amazon special' red dot... £10
  8. I did a thread on this a few months back. I ended up buying a cheap poncho from Go Outdoors in case it really tipped down, but I've just been rained on a couple of times since then, and my Brit Army surplus stuff and decent para boots kept me sort-of dry and warm enough to get through it. This is outdoor woodland when there wasn't much leaf cover. Very much enjoyed the change of undershirt and gloves at lunchtime, and dry clothes at the end. ESS goggles + mesh lower face mask worked ok actually. The poncho remains unused. I've probably got wetter through sweating too much tbh, so take from all that what you will
  9. I've really enjoyed watching him, and have learnt a bit (not quite enough to be able to replicate his work!) The only slightly worrying thing is he used to make a video, and then a couple of videos down the line he'd make a comment along the lines of "I snuck that in to fool you, bet you never noticed", so perhaps some of it is designed to hoodwink the techies who are stealing his ideas or business, and consequently you can't 100% trust every word!
  10. The typical "4 BB fall-out" pisses me off! I do most of my test firing in the lounge out to the garden, and inevitably manage to drop a couple of BBs on to the hardwood floor, then spend time chasing them around under the furniture etc. If Maxx hop units stop that, I'd be inclined to buy 'em - please tell me more! To be fair, much (almost all?) of that noise that I've heard/seen is from Luke at Neg Airsoft loudly dissing them and bigging up the ZCI hops. That usually carries some weight...?
  11. Inability to spot the catastrophic use of "your" instead of "you're". The joke sir, is you on YOU sir! I must admit I'm surprised @Fatboy40 you're having a problem with the DE. I simply swapped out the stock rubber and nub for the usual 50 degree Macaron + Omega nub combo... I didn't see any obvious improvement in accuracy when I did my target testing at ~15M, but I was very happy with the distances I was getting out on the field. I've used both 0.28 and 0.30 BBs. Good luck with the Maxx hop. It wouldn't have been my choice given the usual noise around their "value proposition" but whatever works is good - let's hope it works for you!
  12. In case any of you want some more video ... and can speak Japanese ... It does look very, very nice. I am envious. I would want to go "full SLR" with it though - is that likely to be do-able in the future? Would VFC themselves produce an SLR variant?
  13. Yeah, to be clear, my opinion is if Kicking Mustang is doing any of the stuff he's being accused of, he's a complete c*nt and needs to be banned everywhere. We're supposed to do this stuff to have fun, not to get hurt by some twat who think he's above the rules.
  14. ? I would whole-heartedly defend the wearing of lower face masks tbh. One sniper shot to a tooth or the gum tells you it's eminently sensible. (I was lucky, I didn't lose the tooth)
  15. Appreciate you're stepping away from the thread but just to cherry pick this suggestion: I hear what you suggesting but... 1) I don't think the player-base, nor the availability of site (and game days) is big enough to support fracturing it to that extent... 2) Where all the guns are obeying UK site limits the number of actual injuries seem to be pretty low. In my (limited) experience I've seen a couple of drops of blood from shots hitting bony bits of the face, and of course hits in the mouth... but otherwise I wouldn't see any need to make a 'I can take the pain' game, because about the only thing that could involve is removing the MED rules (and snipers are supposed to be all about the 80m+ kills, aren't they? They shouldn't be worried unduly by minimum 30m rule - it's a good excuse to buy an MP5k or a P90 ;)) Even the little kids running around with their parents at my site seem ok with yelling "ow" when they get hit, but they get on with it. So as long as the gun isn't *illegally* powerful, it should be fine.
  16. Ah, sorry yes that's possible with the PB gun, I've not seen one of those in the flesh. "Metal handguard" had me expecting it to be metal receiver too. The 906C... Ok, so it might be BBGuns4Less, but they're not always wrong It's the one I own, it's definitely all metal. With current stock levels, beggars can't always be choosers. A slightly pricier version, if you absolutely have to avoid BBGuns, is here https://www.defconairsoft.co.uk/product/double-eagle-m907-m4-with-falcon-fire-control-system-black-m907e/ (All metal, and in stock)
  17. Both the ones I linked to are in stock, and are full metal (EDCase is probably thinking of the 904 range, which are predominantly polymer) I have the M906C, it's my best gun.
  18. I only posted it because there's sod-all else out there (that I've seen). When there's plenty of interest in a new product "Something" is usually better than "nothing"...
  19. Redwolf video!
  20. https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/double-eagle-m916a-utr556-metal-handguard-version?pv=18896 Or for the standard M4 look https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/double-eagle-m906c-ar15-rifle-with-falcon-system-in-black.html Both great value
  21. This stuff is much better, you never, ever get shot whilst wearing it
  22. Was the site down for everyone yesterday?  Judging by the lack of new posts for a good chunk of the time, I'm guessing it was.
