  1. I watched a video of a chap who has two of these (one full size assault rifle with a C-mag), and to my surprise he's had no trouble with the EBB breaking over a couple of years of ownership. So that's actually quite a bonus! If I go ahead with this, I'll be sure to try to peel off the Specna trades as they don't look great to my eyes (and I'm quite happy to paint the gun if that doesn't go so well!)
  2. I should have mentioned - I already bought an M4 adapter off the classifieds here... I've got too many STANAG mags of various types to want to go for yet another set, so will that likely fit anything I buy or are they manufacturer-specific? (It's not an expensive mistake if I've got the wrong one) There's a Specna at Patrolbase. It has EBB which I presume will break pretty quickly, but it does have the advantage of an ETU (so presumably I can (ab)use it with an 11.1v lipo) and a quick change spring, which are both very useful, I think. And it's a sensible £150 too.
  3. It's been a while since I bought a new gnu, and with Special Ops opening it's doors again next month, I think I might spend a few quid on scratching my G36 itch. (Maybe some ointment would be cheaper than buying a gun, but let's not go there...) I thought a G36 would still be quite cheap, given the review videos I've watched have talked about "£85" and "100 Euros". Well I guess everything in the world going to shit, plus Brexit means those days are gone. So given the lack of stock I'm down to perusing bone yard sales, pre-used, and a very few sites who have anything available. I seem to always miss out on the boneyard and used guns (or they're two-tone), and I would like a bit of buyer-protection, so 'new' will be the way to go My preferred choice was the JG, and my local seller Action Hobbies does indeed have stock - but it's a rather eye-watering £180 for the normal one, or £190 for the Franken-M4 version. Buying there does avoid the possibility of a big parcel turning up when t'wife is home, and having to explain why I need yet another gun, as I can just go pick it up directly. Meanwhile Patrolbase do have the Cyma version in for £120, which is much more palatable... but I've rather got the impression the Cyma was the less favoured choice. However, £60 does cover a multitude of potential sins! To throw a fun curveball into the mix though, there's the Cyma High Speed variant at £160. 25rps is too much, but then again 12rps feels a bit too little, so it's a candidate. Is it any good, or will the internal bits spin off into oblivion? Any thoughts (or gifts of unwanted G36's) gratefully received
  4. Luke from Neg Airsoft was really really really unimpressed with this gun. Caveat emptor.
  5. Yup, my DE M906 with the Falcon ECU managed to kill a Titan Li-Ion battery when I left it in the gun for a couple of days, in spite of the fact the Titan was supposed to be immune to being run down to an un-recoverable empty state AND the Falcon unit was supposed to protect against clearing out the battery. The small trickle of voltage required to do the monitoring must have been enough to knacker it.
  6. Have I been sucked off in the back of a Games Workshop?
  7. That's literally what he's done isn't it?
  8. You can't go wrong with a TM hi capa to be honest. They're upgradeable to the extreme (will no doubt empty your wallet if you choose to go there) I run a TM D.O.R hi capa, not because of the red dot sight mount which it has, but because of the larger size blowback unit... Very useful in low temperatures - mine ran like a champ even during the winter, where my other gas pistol failed miserably Not that you _really_ need a pistol, unless you make a point of using it during games (which I do, they're great fun!)
  9. Good news from Special Ops, they're reopening on the 12th Feb! It may settle back into the normal pattern of "every other week and alternating between Saturday and Sunday" after that.
  10. I voted AEG as that's what I've predominantly (99.8%) used in the past, but I have a Tippman HPA that I think may become my primary once I get the range and accuracy dialled-in. It's just so fun to shoot. Just as my TM Hi Capa is. Consequently my next purchase might be a gas rifle (but then again it might be an electric MP5 or G36 if a bargain turns up)
  11. I will probably have a friend, maybe even two, coming along with me. The first will probably become a regular too if this gets off the ground, he's from Northampton
  12. True, but it's easy to get excited about the pews There are other threads recommending those items so just have a search for 'em. (For 'em... in a forum, if you'll pardon the pun ... I'm here all week) I found a Cyma M14 mount here ... https://www.moaitoys.com/shop/index.php/cyma-c40-scope-mount-base-for-m14-series-aeg-black.html It's $11 and $13 for shipping. Not a bad total price, though of course no idea how long delivery will actually take. Rather than buying a new threading bit and maybe ending up with an askew Laylax-style mount, I'll get me one of those "definitely the right one for the job" pieces instead. Unfortunately Paypal doesn't seem to want to play ball when trying to checkout, I may need to try a different browser etc.
  13. Re CM16. My local site had a lot of them. I used them on a few occasions, very good solid guns. Too expensive now. They've now started using Double Eagle M904's which are probably the same price, but as Rogerborg says they have more features. I run an M906C and love it (just budget a tenner and five minutes of your time to replace the weak-sauce spring with a better one) Re the M14 scope mount... it's out of stock at Patrolbase... and it's out of stock everywhere else I looked too - so I bought one from AliExpress (you can get loads of cheap - but occasionally crap - airsoft stuff from there, if you're willing to wait) The problem is the mounting bolts are the wrong size for the Cyma's existing holes. So I bought a set of threading bits (I forget the proper name, but I'm sure you know what I mean). Damn it. Still not the right size! My set was integer sizes, the AliExpress mount seems to be a half size (M6.5) So I've not got around to fitting mine yet. Might be worth waiting for a UK supply.
  14. I'm also using Nuprol 1.0 and Abbey Ultra, in my TM 5.1 DOR. (It's one of the TM's with a larger gas unit, so may be more forgiving with its gas) The Abbey stuff has worked great outdoors in cold weather, giving me ~250fps iirc. Plenty enough power for close quarters engagements. And for the sake of longevity for my gun when it's warm from being indoors, I use the Nuprol for my garden plinking. Also plenty powerful enough for that. It's not so much 'wear' as the fear that the slide slamming back and forth too hard might cause a fracture and then break in the slide, isn't it? So using the appropriate gas for the ambient temp seems sensible if you're risk-averse (i.e. don't want to be bothered sourcing a new slide)
  15. I post that partly as a joke (I'll get my coat*), and partly cos that's what I've used in the past to transport my "way too much stuff" from car to safe zone. I've now managed to upgrade to a hard case that came with my most expensive gun, and 3 soft cases all sourced from Action Hobbies. They have a boneyard section that often includes soft cases at bargain prices (£10-15). https://www.actionhobbies.co.uk/product-category/bone-yard-second-hand/ (No bags currently, but does have some DPM kit in there) The last one I got is a standard padded bag good for a pair of AKs or M4s, but also has a sniper/long rifle zip out extension that won't protect the barrel so much... but does at least cover it up well so the neighbours don't SWAT me Edit: It's a Guarder M2000 Pro gun bag... https://www.fire-support.co.uk/product/guarder-m2000-pro-gun-bag-87x28x5cm I wouldn't pay £60 for it, but as I got it for £20 or less... a good buy! * I won't get my coat. You're all stuck with me for a while yet
  16. @Colin Allen thanks for that... Yeah I guess we'll need to wait for a few reviews and user reports to come through to make sure the implementation is good.
  17. Well, this looks like a step towards high-end guns from Double Eagle... The M920A is an all-metal M4 with a modern look to it... Link to Taiwan Gun product page (The product page includes a video of the Kestrel set up procedure and features) Link to a short news article The extra-interesting part is the Bluetooth enabled control unit... which includes pre-cocking, active braking, and also auto-stop on 30 rounds fired. Priced at 1653,84zł which converts to £313, which is a big step up in their price point (excepting the sniper rifle) I'll be interested to see the reviews!
  18. As a regular for Special Ops at Milton Keynes / Olney, which is currently closed, and has been since May... I'm well up for this We've had a few people ask for sites in this area, and being near the M1 means the catchment area is quite extensive - so I reckon you'll get some regulars once people get to hear about it
  19. 55 years old, just finished a session of Call of Duty, playing into the night because my bad knee will probably stop me sleeping well tonight. Regularly fondles my growing collection of toy gnus. Occasionally goes to skirmishes when the local council allows (b'stards). Yeah, age and even infirmity no barrier to entry here
  20. @rocketdogbert you got some very nice clean edges on those shapes, how did you get them so nice? I used frog tape when painting my F2000 but it didn't always leave tidy corners
  21. Not sure if these would be suiitable? I ran a thread a while ago asking for pouches that would be easy to use and would cope with M14, AUG and M4 mags with a minimum of adjustment They were pretty reasonably priced, and because they're hard-shell they're relatively easy to insert the mags back in again. I can dig out the details if you need Inevitably the rattle cans came out, for cheapo DIY multi-cam... Oh yeah, in the absence of Special Ops, are you going somewhere else for your pew-pewing? I've been spectacularly lazy about finding an alternative site, but I need to justify some of this kit I've bought in the last few months ;D
  22. Do you have any headache pills, my head hurts after reading all that shouting
  23. Cool start... Milanote looks useful for this sort of thing 9 RPS sounds rather low, I suggest a little visit to @AK2M4 to source a better motor..? Even if you were going for a semi-auto build that would suggest it'd be a bit sluggish to cycle. But a re-shim, different battery etc might bring that up to the 15+ that you should be looking for (as a minimum). (20 is, of course, plenty)
  24. I suspect the "unloaded shotgun" exemption is to allow the Landed Gentry's gamekeeper to stroll to the pub with his shotgun slung over his shoulder, so he can enjoy a pint and a pie, without having to divert on his way to store the pew-pew. It's one law for them and another for the rest of us, I tell you!
  25. A cheapo G36 of some description is on my wish-list so thanks for starting this thread, I'll follow with interest as it may prove useful, whatever model I end up with!
