  2. Played the opening day at UCAP Vanquish, located at the Citadel in Dover. Like a lot (most?) of the other UCAP sites except GreenOps, it's in a disused prison. I believe this was also used for an AI event, but today's was 120 or so players rather than jamming everyone in the world in. Quality over quantity (or something). Rolled up to a busy carpark at 08:30. I would have thought some people were camping for a week given the number of rolling trunks, bags and cases, but apparently it was just for the day. There's an on-site cafe that does breakfast if you've missed yours and from what I saw it looked pretty good. Was also open for lunch (more on that later). Across the bridge and a relatively brief queue to get checked in, albeit in a cutting cold wind, before getting into the safe zone. Tables everywhere to put your kit on, more upstairs, a tea urn, proper toilets with actual working hand dryers. May have reached peak safe zone tbh. Caught up with some familiar faces, which was good, before heading out for the usual Chronoing and safety brief. Standard stuff really, and everyone there seemed to be experienced, so no issues. Rules for the day were , no 2 tones, semi auto only, no DMRs, bolt guns are allowed (outdoors only) but I wouldn't recommend it. There are no open windows, so it's not like Longmoor/Catterick/Sennybridge where you can snipe out of buildings. Additionally you can't shoot into/out of windows because mostly they all still have glass in and all that'll happen is it ends up getting damaged. Attackers could lob pyro in to buildings, but defenders couldn't lob it out. Nobody used smokes. I think they would have been useless outdoors and obviously a no-go indoors. All these worked pretty well and were well observed. Where there was occasional confusion (can you shoot whilst going up the stairs, can you shoot through mesh/cracks, etc), it got resolved amicably. There then followed a number of attack/defend games, starting with a warm up block war assault, which involved both teams being split in half and half of their team defending their block, while the other half attacked the enemy block. The opposing team were doing the same, but the attacking teams couldn't engage each other, just assault onto the buildings. There was also a british bulldog element where when a defender got hit, they'd go and join their team on the attack. Leading to basically a few people defending as the entire enemy team assaulted. A good warm up game where nobody was sitting around for long. Next up, I think various rolling defence games attacking buildings in sequence. One life and fall back to the next for defenders, unlimited for attackers. It was identified that there were some choke points on the stairs, which the marshals let run for 5 or 10 mins and then moved the defenders back. Part of the day was identifying things like this that you can't really tell just by walking through it, and all the players seemed to be on board with that approach. The marshals were open to suggestions throughout, and I think there are some easy fixes without having to radically alter anything. At some point there was lunch. Meal deal for me, but there were plenty of people having things from the cafe's excellent selection (sandwiches, burgers, full English, hot drinks, cans, cake, biscuits...). The only issue was the wait time, with 120 airsofters suddenly deciding they wanted cheesy chips, etc. It was possible to preorder for lunch in the morning and I suspect going forward this will be a necessity. Again, it was day one. After lunch, some reversals of the previous games. It was our turn to camp at the top of the murder stairs and it became apparent what a turkey shoot it was from that perspective. Fair play to the marshals, they said we could have 5 mins of that and then they'd move us back, just like the morning. This duly happened, and the attacking team then pushed forward to be met with, frankly, ALL the pyro. The bombs just kept coming and those at the top of the stairs were falling about giggling at the disbelief from the bottom as to much was being lobbed down. Eventually the place was full of smoke and none of our ears worked any more. 11/10, would recommend. The initial games were very much focussed on fighting through each building to see how they played, but the final game of the day gave us free reign of the site with 3 bomb objectives. Quite fancy LED bombs in pelican cases that you had to hold down the button to change to your team colour. A lot of back and forth in that one as people flanked round, made use of newly discovered routes through buildings and so on. I have no idea what the scores were, but it doesn't really matter. Didn't feel like one side or the other dominated. In conclusion, a solid day out. I had a good time, despite CQB not being my usual play style. The NGRS MP5 did the business as ever, although I am now considering tracer options. And possibly some earpro. Well run day, good hit taking and good attitude from all involved. Recommended.       He seemed nice enough chap, just inexperienced. My worry was more hearing that statement at a site that is mostly Rhododendron CQB with limited sightlines for sniping, so the possibility for below MED engagements seemed high.

      He was happy enough to listen to words of advice like "If you're not sure, don't shoot", so... benefit of the doubt. 🙂

  5. I've got one of the Safarilands for this particular light (which doesn't hold the gun well without it) so now thinking about buying one of these just so I can use the holster. Even though I have perfectly fine other holsters and lights and don't in any way need it...
  6. Same as every other bolt gun tbh. The only issue with the SRS is how much more exposed the bolt is to crap and how rapidly it therefore generates crunchy grit paste. At least it's easy to take out and clean.
  7. Yes (source, was the first gun I bought, 23 years ago). There's a couple of ways of doing it, and there used to be a good guide here but it seems to be down at the moment. I have saved some pictures though. Or you can do it the lazy way below
  8. From memory, they can be a bit loose, but it doesn't really matter, as long as they're engaging properly. It's just a question of striking the balance between trigger responsiveness and accidental actuation. I have found the easiest way to adjust it is to build the gearbox in gun, etc and then take the rear lower stock pin out. This usually allows you to pivot the pistol grip/trigger mech from the front pin and adjust until you're happy with it, by bending arm/moving the trigger grubscrew in and out. The advantage to doing it this way is that you can hear/feel the microswitch actuating (make sure the battery is out before you start all this!) if you've done it too tight. I also find it worth backing off just a little anyway, because there can be a bit of flex in the fittings and if you've got it adjusted too finely you can end up firing when you lift the gun using just the pistol grip, because the weight pushes the pistol grip/trigger assembly up into the main body just a hair.
  9. Probably just a case of backing off the grub screw on the trigger a bit, or cutting down/bending the microswitch arm, if you haven't already done that (because the unadjusted ones seem to inevitably get sucked into the gears at some point and make it into a runaway gun).
  10. Have a look at the pic here. May be helpful. Edited - Actually, probably not helpful if you're talking about wiring to the microswitch, because I don't have a picture of that. I think from memory that's just the bottom two contacts to wire to, but may vary depending on your switch. Fairly easy to test...

Okay, but *apart* from the recoil shocks, magnetic fire control in the MP5, MWS system, gas AK's, gas semi auto saiga, new pistols, electric shotguns, recoil MK46, sanitation, medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us? Yes, this isn't a new gun. It's a refresh. Plenty of other threads people say "JG/CYMA have mosfets and Marui don't". Marui refresh to bring them in and then "They're not innovating"? Combined with "I'll wait for the clone to come out" seems hard for them to win.

  15. Did not play as I had non-airsoft plans (surely not!) and was mildly annoyed that the first sunny day is the one that I'm not free. Then remembered that my leg is buggered anyway so it would have made no difference. The Ghillie discussion is probably one for another topic, since there's bound to be quite a lot of opinion on it. I have to say I'd be in favour of fewer of them and this comes purely from personal gameplay observations. 1 - Many ghillies with HPA M4's where you can no longer see or hear your opponent can lead to an awful lot of stalemates where nobody can advance (depending on the site layout/games). Like many things, it's hilarious when *you're* lying invisibly in a bush silently murdering everyone, but gets a lot less entertaining when everyone's doing it. 2 - Hit taking. Normally when having issues with hit taking the standard process is "This player, wearing this camo, with this rig and this type of helmet, using this gun - I believe was not taking his hits". This now becomes "Someone in a ghillie", which makes it a lot harder to resolve issues when there's 10 of them. But, we'll see how it plays out. Probably still plenty of sites there that don't mind you doing it whilst you wear your armbands on your feet, etc. if that's your thing.
  16. Same with the bipod. Most of the time they're just dead weight and you're better off bracing against an arm/leg/tree, etc. Particularly with VSR, adding a bipod is probably going to near double the weight anyway (okay, a slight exaggeration, but then again I've got this Parker-Hale bipod that probably makes that an accurate statement) Usually bipods end up just being used to stand the gun in the safe zone on rather than shoot from, unless you're talking something particularly heavy (support weapon, EBR-14, etc). However, if you're determined to have one, I'd suggest something like a Harris - I'm sure there are plenty of clones but I've not used them. They're lightweight and quick to deploy with spring loaded legs and usually the ability to cant to one side or other to keep the rifle level.
  17. You've also got UCAP GreenOps within an hour of you that is pretty easy to get to and well run.
  18. I've got HSGI tacos in both pistol and extended pistol and both work, although the extended give you more coverage unsurprisingly. A lot of it can come down to play style and what other guns and rigs you run. You haven't mentioned if this is for belt or chest/plate carrier or both. For example, HSGI do a taco that's rifle+pistol, so if you often run an M4 but also have occasional MP5 you can use it for either. Alternatively if it's a more dedicated mp5 plate carrying rig, you might want all 4 to be quick draw across the chest (although I find this awkward with long mags and prefer a belt draw). You generally don't *need* more than one or two of the tacos in my view. I have a couple on the belt since I tend to quick reload from those and then top them up from additional closed pouches on a chest rig in a lull.
  19. My Worthing review is probably going to be *fractionally* shorter than @Impulse's. Got to Worthing, car park vaguely swamp like, but passable. Some hilarious sliding on mud/parking attempts observed. Chronoed and tested weapons. Glock 17 Gen 5 is a beast and hitting 50m on the range without issues. Had done some tweaking, building and improvement to P* engine'd M4 so needless to say that decided it wasn't going to work and I ran the NGRS MP5 instead. Considering throwing all HPA kit in the sea at this point (where ironically it would probably be more useful). Glorious sunshine for pretty much the whole day, without being too hot. Perfect airsoft weather really. First game much as described earlier. Standing waiting for rentals to accomplish something before charging off to do... something. There were 2 objective props somewhere out in the game field and they had instructions on what to do with them on them. I say this, because I heard it, but I never saw any sign of them or knew what the brief was. Through I don't mind the clock concept because it can allow for waves of attackers/reinforcements, I think it would be better with some whiteboards with the objectives written on them once known. Yes, you can potentially wander off and try and find a marshall (who will probably be standing in the middle of a firefight) to find out what's going on, but large objective games lead to all the players being scattered without any cohesion. I got into some good shootouts and snuck around a bit, but I didn't really know where I was going other than all the usual spots that people fight over. This game lasted basically the whole morning. The other suggestion around clocks is to have multiple spawn locations, because it makes it more of a 360 battle when you know you could have someone spawning in behind you in 10 mins, as well as give you the opportunity to respawn somewhere else if things are not working where you are. Can work, might be situational though. After lunch, a couple of matches of capture and hold base, fighting over 3 different locations. I was pleased to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat with 8 seconds to go at the end of one of them by charging into the position. Reran it with different spawns and we lost that one 2 -1, so overall 1 match each. Plenty of movement and shooting, and clear objectives so it flowed ok. To finish the day off, it was attack/defend the tower with 1 life only for defenders, semi only for all. I opted to go up into the tower and shoot from there and am pleased to report there was some serious murder going on. Red dot sight paired with the accuracy of the MP5 mean there was a lot of rapid semi only kills on the first shot. There was also a Marshal up top, so they got to witness it all. I think we held out for 11-13 mins. Then the reversal and we somehow smashed in a new course record of under 2:30mins I believe. Then home for tea and medals. MP5 ran well all day. The low caps are consistently reliable feeders and .28's seem to work well in it. I did used to get feeding problems with the high caps, but the lows are good. Glock had its first outing and its first kills. Nice piece of kit. I am already suffering from everything hurting, but overall a good day out.
  20. Hard to say for sure, but it doesn't look like an allen key bolt, more like a roller pin. Probably needs a punch (or screwdriver) and a hammer to tap it out. For future reference, you might be better putting this in Technical Advice > Electric Guns.
  21. What's the deal with the sights? Do they require different slide, or are they a drop in fit on the stock gun? Link?

  23. Having had a quick shoot with this back to back against the Gen 4, everything just feels a little tighter on the 5th Gen. How much of that is down to it being brand new is a fair question, but the 4th Gen has only been gamed about 5 or 6 times. Trigger feels better, racking is more positive. Blowback feels different but it's hard to put my finger on exactly how. It feels slightly stronger but like the slide doesn't travel as far (which clearly can't be the case, but...). The grey slight two tone effect looks good as does the curvature of the front end. The mags also have a baseplate that is more rounded and have returned to having the gas nozzle covered by the baseplate rather than exposed. The inside of the front outer barrel has more visible rifling too. My Surefire x300 is a lot tighter fit so perhaps very slight dimensional changes, but it all still fits in the holster fine. Looking forward to an improvement in the weather and a chance to use it in game.

  25. I tend to just pick up a bottle of propane (400g) for about £15 from screwfix as it's just down the road. If I forget/run out it tends to be more expensive for less on site. Marginally less faff though. You pays your money...
