The short answer is because airsoft manufacturers don't tend to (mass) produce replicas with optimisation in mind. Very much a case of 'which inner barrel fits in the outer barrel' rather than 'which inner barrel works the best with our cylinder size'. -
I guess the point I was trying to make and having read my post back managed to entirely miss, was my suspicion the root of the disappoint that I feel leads to a lot of these sorts of sales. Using a rif stock should act as your ‘control’ when playing around with putting aftermarket parts in something. Not having that benchmark to gauge the potential improvements from feels like a big miss, and a very easy way to wind up disappointed with your results. Apologies, I suspect I’ve caused this to deviate away from where the topic was.

For Sale - A mistake shaped like a TM NGRS Delta - £900 Feel like this should be in that airsoft fallacies thread, I beg one day that the general airsoft player base realises that ‘aftermarket’ ≠ ‘upgrade’. Granted that leads to a longer thought pattern of what ‘upgrade’ actually means. Many are seemingly happy in winning a gucci point pissing contest than they are having a nicely performing rif, and if that’s what you’re after then I guess it is upgraded for the intended purpose. The only ‘actual’ reasons I can think of for selling a rif before skirmishing it that doesn’t ultimately lead me to suspicions of it not performing very well are: 1) Unexpected financial difficulties. 2) Ergonomically uncomfortable for the user (be that too long, too heavy, too much like a P90). 3) Too loud for intended purpose.* *This is only here so I can use it as a justification if I sell my MWS. Gotta think ahead so I don’t look like a hypocrite later down the line ?. I’m all for putting fancy stuff in and on my rifs, but am very aware that much of it gives little to no improvement over what was already in/on there. Which is largely why installing aftermarket parts on brand new rifs makes my head spin, what is the improvement from the ‘upgrade’ being judged against?

Realistically I don’t think boots are too much of an issue, that photo probably makes things look more obvious than it felt while playing. Though I very much appreciate the feedback and suggestions. That’s probably the only time I was prone all day, I found it was much more effective to make a little hide in a bush and crouch. Means I’m concealed from most angles and have much better ability to manoeuvre without having to make large movements, especially with the SRS I found racking the bolt while prone to be a fairly exaggerated movement. The best crafted camo on the planet won’t keep you hidden if you’re flapping around all over the place! They’re certainly not cheap boots but I’m not against spraying them, but I am going to hold off until they’re a little more worn in. This was my first outing in them so they very much have that fresh boot look about them, a few more days out and I suspect nature will take care of much of it for me! Learning where you are and aren’t best concealed is definitely a ‘skill’ that I’ll need to work on, very much a new thing to me but it’s all part of the fun. Certainly not expecting to be mastering anything over night, but it’s added a whole new dimension to the game for me which has definitely brought a elevated level of enjoyment to the game for me.

Haha, much appreciated! I’m in a toss up at the moment of whether to bother with the leaf suit bottoms of not. I can see the merits in some situations, and negatives in others. Very much a case of figuring out how my play style is adapting as I fall deeper down the rabbit hole of ‘sniping’ and if I feel like my legs are consistently the thing giving my position away. Definitely feel like I need a few more games with things as they are before I can work that one out!

Had an amazing time at Dagger Woods on Saturday, one of my favourite days airsofting in a long ol’ time. Gave the ghillie bits their first proper run out, can definitely see it being more effective once I’m more familiar with the sites I use it at. Fortunately a chap grabbed a photo so I can see where needs some work, namely the boots... and the Mk23 will be making it’s way back onto the chest rig. (Would loved to have seen how it looked front on, but this photo is useful to see for improvements to make nevertheless) Had some lovely ambushes and some great long range shots. Everything performed up to or past expectations and the staff and players were fantastic. Such a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived at the site, as someone that suffers with a lot of social anxiety I can’t understate how much this set the day up to be a good one. Superb sportsmanship from start to finish, I don’t think I have anything negative to say at all. Just one of those days you have every now and then that reminds you exactly why it’s all so worth it.

No idea if it's of any use (depends what sling you're using and how you're attaching it I guess) but I've just purchase this lot because I needed some of the fittings etc. If that sling plate will be sufficient for your needs send me your address in a PM and I'll send it out to you once I receive it as it's surplus to my requirements.

Apologies for putting it here and not as a wanted in the classifieds, here just makes more sense to me! Don't suppose any of you fine folks have a stock trigger (part number MGG2-44) and/or trigger guard pin (part number MGG2-145) going spare that you'd consider selling? In the process of taking the GRY kit off mine and have found out the seller opted to not include a majority of the fittings or the stock trigger which was a LOVELY surprise. Not spotting the trigger wasn't there is admittedly my fault for missing something so obvious, and I'd foolishly assumed all the fittings were in the box of bits... silly me. PIcked up a few bits from the classifieds on here and was going to order these two parts from Eagle6 (both in stock this afternoon), only to find out the hammer unit is now out of stock. Another lovely surprise. On the verge of assuming this RIF is cursed and chucking it in the cupboard for the foreseeable future! I certainly got caught in the 'buying things to try and make me happy' throughout the early stages of the COVID situation. Fortunately that led me down a path which has made me fall in love with the game all over again, but it's also left me with a very expensive MWS build that I should absolutely sell on but am in denial about doing so. Selling a RIF before I've skirmished it atleast once is something I've never done, and never thought I would do... but after some frivolous spending to try and put a smile on my face I can absolutely see how it happens.

Eye pro redone, much happier with it this time. More comfortable and overall a better blend with everything else. Definitely feels like a lesson in less is more sometimes.
Hoping to get some quick field tests in at the weekend, and perhaps a maiden voyage for the finished suit and SRS as it is now on the 31st depending on how things are with various restrictions and how comfortable I feel with the whole situation.

Aye, fortunately the vast majority of my crafting is cable ties so super quick and easy to adjust as needed. Did a quick field test while out with the dog this morning, really happy with the colours just need to have a play around with the right side of the balaclava and the raffia to make sure it’s not hindering the use of my scope. I’ve intentionally done less crafting on the right side with that in mind as is, so hopefully not too much tweaking needed.

My Quietwear order appeared 2 weeks earlier than expected, excited to add the finishing touches to the rig, redo my eye pro and crack on with rifle/pistol wraps ?.
Also summoned up the motivation to get the backpack done last night.

Put in a bunch of work over the last few evenings to get the autumn suit and balaclava ready, decided to start again on the eye pro as I wasn’t happy with the blend with the balaclava. Greens will gradually be removed as we transition into winter and replaced with the cloth I dyed over the weekend. Will be paired with some Phantomleaf z2 KSK trousers.
(Blacked out the area my eye pro will be covering, partly to remove how distracting the skin tone is... partly because I had very derpy eyes. Waiting on the delivery of some Quietwear to cover the AAP grip, happy with the overall blend on the chest rig.)
(Backpack still needs crafting, wanted to finish the back of the suit first to set myself up for a decent blend.)

I’ve done a mixture of onsite crafting, and crafting at home using reference photos. I agree to a point, which is why there is plenty of space to add natural vegetation on the day of. But have found natural greens need supporting with artificial ones (be that haloscreen or artificial leaves, or a mix of the two which is the route I took), natural greens have a habit of not staying very green for long!
Thats a great thing as we move deeper into autumn and winter because it adds to your variety of brown tones, but it’s a pain when you wanted some vibrant greens!
As with anything to do with ghillie crafting it entirely depends on where you’re playing, I certainly wouldn’t expect this to perform well in a pine forest for instance.

Some more crafting prep work ahead of the change in season, waiting on some different dyes to arrive before finishing up but I’m satisfied with the initial results! It’s intentionally dyed poorly, the ‘patchy’ look is exactly what I was shooting for.

Ta for mentioning this, I’ll go ahead and add that to the ‘impulse purchase’ list. I suspect I’ll be parting with some existing pistols before long. Picked up some of the Viper VX bits a few weeks back and have been sticking various bits of foliage to it since(once I’ve had the time to do the backpack I’ll likely give the shiny green fake leaves a dusting of brown paint). Using the quad SMG insert for the Mk23 mags works a treat, I’ve got a pair of the holster inserts arriving tomorrow which should serve as decent SRS mag pouches (currently using the single mag sleeves, they’re a little too tight). And treated the SRS to a new scope.

Though I imagine the reason is that the seller isn't comfortable doing tech work (assembly or disassembly) sales like this always baffle me slightly. In my experience 9/10 times you'll get more selling each part as an individual part. There is already a list breaking down each part, so the bulk of the annoying work of breaking down a RIF to sell as parts is done. So, if you're reading this Mr 5777 maybe have a think about taking this route.

Phenomenal service from Jason at Longbow, wasn’t expecting this order till Monday/Tuesday next week. Went ahead and gspec’d my SRS, ohh boy does it feel a lot more nimble!

To add to what @alxndrhllsaid in case it wasn't clear: TM's VSR Gspec is a shortened version of their classic VSR and is pretty much the benchmark BASR.

Oh, right, neat. I do with I'd been able to get a shortie MB-02 rather than the longer MB-03. If I do get back into sniping (woodland is booked) I'll probably just throw in a shorter inner barrel and take a hacksaw to the outer. Can't be doing with lugging around weight that's not contributing to performance.

FWIW I believe 303mm barrels (prommy are ideal unless you're planning on going all in... like this idiot) reap the most reward when it comes to VSR cylinders, I won't even pretend to understand why I'll just throw the phrase 'volume matching' out there in an attempt to sound smarter than I am. I honestly can't remember where I read it, but it was definitely on here and from a source I deemed more reliable than the internet at large.
Edit: It was in this thread, I was quickly skimming to try and find it. Barrel talk starts toward the end of page 1 and follows onto page 2.

Treated myself to some new bits, including one of those fancy carbon fibre SRS suppressors and I literally can’t wrap my head around how something that size weighs 75g.

I'm not generally good at understanding the weight of things basd on the numerical values, I tend to gauge everything on comparisons. My regular DTSS suppressor feels pretty light to me and weighs 240g, trying to visualise something of comparable size yet a third of the weigh is absolutely making my head spin. Seems like fascinating stuff!

Much appreciated, for something that seems fairly popular there isn’t a huge amount of information about in terms of how ‘universal’ the pouches are. I’m probably just too precious about it but I’ve struggled to find universal things that give a level of retention I’m comfortable with when it comes to MK23 mags, but being able to ditch velcro and zips sounds like a winner. Sidenote, that UKARA Police patch is so obnoxious in the best way. -

I’ve been eyeing up one of ‘Utility Rigs’ for a while as a cheaper option to throw a bunch of fake leaves and other random assorted shite onto with Shoe Goo (loved the D3CRM and Flatpack combo, didn’t have the heart to deface it). Don’t suppose you know how well the SMG inserts would work for pistol mag retention? The only thing that’s been putting me off is how shallow the pistol mag inserts seem to be, it’s weird that they’ve stitched the bottom... though I guess picking that stitching is another option to have them sit a bit deeper. -
It’s been a pretty successful (I think) and productive 24 hours! Cobra hood is about half way there, and all the shiny bits for the SRS are installed and working.
(Not having the face pro done yet makes it harder to tell where needs work on the hood)

Just got the dispatch notification for my SRS parts, so bloody excited. It’s also the first time I’ve ever put aftermarket parts in a RIF before I’ve skirmished it stock. By far one of my most frivolous airsoft purchases to date...
