  1. Exactly. I'm looking forward to building my monster m21 and having no MED because there's way too much foliage to do any long distance shooting outside of a handful of spots around the site, though when winter comes around I may bring out the VSR again; the site changes a shocking amount from season to season. Even I saw more action than usual, because you guys kept trying to sneak through paradise and I think I was the only blue in the area. Also, I often play a reconnaissance element for the team, but most of my mates didn't bring their radios and my headset broke, leaving me with my crappy backup one that barely works so I had to make myself useful somehow ?
  2. Looking for opinions from you lot... What sidearm should I run with my m21 once it's HPA? My mk23 or my p226? NBB or GBB? Both fire all year round pretty reliably (even in winter) and both shoot about as far as each other as I've done exactly the same build in each for hop and barrel setup.

The main differences come in the silence of the mk23 compared to the fun-factor and easier, faster, snappier shooting with the p226. Silence is important, because I tend to dress up like a bush and play super sneaky, but with the m21 being super silent and at 1.1J (and therefore no MED), will I need the silence or the rapid shooting in a sidearm?

Decisions decisions... Might require a bit of field testing

I agree. Take both and see which suits you best. I try to balance my loudouts, if primary isn't silent then go silent scondary and vice versa. Something silent for the take down kills and something to go loud with and intimidate/alert your team there is someone nearby.

Ultimately only you can decide on this as asking “what am bestest gun ?” On an airsoft forum is a distinctly futile action as everyone will have a different reason for their opinion on the subject .

      Skara

I say mk23, no need to go loud when you have a stealthy primary (that can quick fire as well and has no MED).

Unless of course you want to.

  3. My martial arts centre re-opened this week, so I'm back to my main form of exercise. Hoping the weight is going to start flying off now, since the only exercise I really do outside of it is airsoft and cycling when I need to go somewhere. Airsoft is every 2 weeks and cycling to go somewhere is like... maybe once a week? But now it'll be at least twice a week with two martial arts sessions and then airsoft every two weeks. Time to get rid of the rest of this weight!
  4. Had a fantastic day today, even if the games were suuuuuper imbalanced. One team had a dominant position which made it super easy to hold the objectives (which they did), and they had the stronger players so it was a massive stompfest (I was not on this team... ?) Still it was great fun, since I decided to stop trying to attack their bases when it was clear our team was woefully outmatched and instead took the Viet Cong approach of hiding in the bushes and just making life difficult for the other team. I got so many people with my silent HPA VSR and mk23 combo and so many bewildered players looking around confused trying to see where they got hit from, even though I was just wearing a short sleeve t-shirt and a leafy hood thing I bought from Russia for £25. However, it really highlighted how 1J builds are better at my local site during the summer. It's thick woodland, so the sight lines are generally pretty crap at this time of the year and a lot of shots I took were either with the mk23 within my MED, or they were at a range I could hit with a 1J gun (like 60m or less)
  5. With AI500 in a few months and my local site doing a weekender at the end of August, I said "f**k it" and bought the items for the m21 project. So looking forward to building this monster!

Build is (all going into a TM m14):

    Wolverine Hydra Gen2

Maple Leaf Macaron 60 degree + Omega nub

    Prometheus 6.03mm stainless steel barrel

Will run it with a 10ci tank in a stock pouch, with my CO2 adapter as a backup in case my tank runs empty.

  6. These stock shortages are great, honestly. It means I can easier resist the temptation to buy stuff before I've responsibly paid off debts from a rough part of my 20s, because lord knows there's stuff I want to buy... *gazes wistfully at google doc list of things I want to get*
  7. I'm at my wits' end with my 1911. Solved the issue with it cycling, but now it only fires maybe 5 shots before running totally out of gas on a full fill. I know the mags are small, but they're not THAT small!

could try changing the valves, may be sticking open a touch too long?

had a similar poroblem with my m92, could barely get half a mag out off a full fill. changed out the valves and it was ok

    3. Impulse

      Impulse

Thing is, before the cycling issue it was firing at least a full mag on a fill of gas. Half a mag in the winter, because it's such a small mag. I removed everything from when I had the cycling issue and even tried shoving in all the stock parts and it still had the same issue.

I've worked on a lot of pistols, because I tend to tweak mine to perfection since I use them so much more than most because boltie and MED, but this one has me at a loss for words. It has exactly the same build now as my p226 that works so flawlessly :(

I had a WE 1911 many years ago that had an issue like this. It seemed to cycle fine most of the time, but efficiency was piss poor & recoil was very inconsistent. I tried a bunch of things to make it work before eventually realising that the trigger disconnector was digging into the slide (and the harder the trigger was held the harder it was pressed against the slide, to the point that you could stop it cycling by holding the trigger hard enough)... in that case the fix was to simply add a shallow groove for it into the blowback housing so the slide wouldn't try to push it down more than was necessary.

  8. My game yesterday was amazing. Very warm and very sweaty, but we played in an area of the site we never play in, allowing me to use a pathway that only a tiny handful of players (mostly marshalls) know about to plink away at the enemy team with my silent HPA VSR setup and have them scratching their heads wondering where the hell they got shot from / how the hell did someone get behind them in a chokepoint-y game. Arms and legs are covered in scratches bcause I had to fight through thorns to use it as it's super overgrown, but worth it. Also, I ditched the ghillie a few months ago due to temperatures / humidity / general sweat and eye-pro fogging, but I went one further and only wore a short sleeved OD t-shirt and BDU trousers while sniping and I still had people almost trip over me and be super surprised after I shoot them. Superior fieldcraft trumps a ghillie suit every day of the week and it's good to get the practice without it. Plus it feels even better when you go unnoticed while knowing you're not wearing the best camo. Maybe I'll try it next in a loud hawaiian shirt... I also ache all over today, which means it was a good day!
  9. I learned that a lot of "foam filled" suppressors will only have foam near the start and the end. Fortunately I've got some pipe insulation to shove into them, but 2 of my supposedly "foam filled" suppressors only have a baffle at the start and one at the end.
  10. Ouch. Not -too- pricey, I hope. I wear my cheapo smartwatch, but it's always under my glove; fortunately my fingerless cover it nicely.
  11. Parcel arrived from HK today, so I now have stubby mp5 mags! I way prefer them to full size, especially since I use the mp5k as a secondary.

I love my short mags. I use them in my mk23 carbine, my new PP-91 Kedr lookalike Mosquito, and as a triple set to make mags 8-10 for Sims.

Hmm, 65 is a lot more viable, I might look into that for CQB.  Woodland, I use my MP5K as much as the sniper/DMR, because I'm That Guy who actually sticks to MEDs. (/rant)

    4. Lozart

      Lozart

@Rogerborg if you're not averse to a bit of battle rattle I have some stubby Hi-Caps that need a new home (suitably cheap of course).

  12. Oh, no, 2200 is my BMR, so that's how much I'd burn if I lay in bed and slept all day. I aim for 2000 as a large deficit, but I should be having around 3000 normally. Higher with exercise. I meant 2200 is high for the average person, not a 6'5" dude with a sturdy Dutch build
  13. Yeah, I don't find it hard to go keto since I don't have a sweet tooth, so cutting out sugar is easy as I don't really eat sugar anyway. Part of my issue is that I am big and tall, so even my low calorie intake is pretty high. Generally can't get it from veggies unless I eat buckets of the stuff
  14. Yeah, this is where everyone's different. My BMR is about 2200 calories and I'm currently on a calorie restricting diet of around 2000 calories a day. I think on an active day of airsoft I burn way more than 3000, probably more than 3500 but not quite 4000 I will probably hit the keto diet again once I've paid off debts, but it's far more expensive than my simple calorie restrictive diet; did it for 9 months last year and it was good. I might not need it though, since at some point I'll have to return to the office, meaning cycling three times a week to and from there, plus once I can get back into martial arts (as my school is still shut; thanks covid) that plus the cycle to and from there. Calorie restricting is still working well enough and the only exercise I'm doing is airsoft every two weeks, so once I add in all the cycling and the martial arts, the remaining weight should fly off. Then I can joke about having lost an average person's body weight as the total weight loss would be 70kg from start to finish.
  15. I took up martial arts to go alongside my stealthy sneaky airsoft because I want to be Big Boss. In all seriousness, I saw airsoft as an active hobby that gets me out of the house and running around nature. I always wanted to do martial arts too, but I just never got around to it, so in 2018 I just decided to jump in and thoroughly enjoyed it. Over the course of a year I got back into airsoft and started doing martial arts twice a week. I've always hated exercise for the sake of exercise, so going to the gym or jogging or anything like that was always a massive mental hurdle, but airsoft is just a fun game that I enjoy playing, and martial arts is learning a skill that hopefully won't be needed, but is good to know just in case. And now I want to be as good at my hobbies as I can be, and to be as good at martial arts and airsoft as I can be, physical fitness is a good way to do it and get a leg up on the stereotypical... mature and "well rounded" airsofter. I'm really feeling the fruits of my labours now, having dropped 50kg so far and being able to move a lot quicker, for a lot longer and handle firefights a lot nimbler is incredibly refreshing and invigorating. Still got 20kg or so to go, so I look forward to seeing how good I can be once I've shifted all this extra weight.
  16. Had a great day today, running a very light VSR loadout and no ghillie. Had some issues with the HPA system leaking, but the tank lasted until just before lunch where I took it apart and fixed the issue, then switched to co2 for the afternoon. The line came loose where it screws into the bolt, so I just had to tighten that up. Got so many people with the VSR just holding areas and when I started playing aggressively with the mk23 I got loads of people with that by flanking as there were less numbers due to people wimping out due to rain (which all cleared up before the games started anyway). Also had a lot of success from a stealth perspective, even without the ghillie. Just observing the seven S's of concealment saw a lot of success, as I had people look directly at me multiple times and not know where I was. Scrim net over the head and shoulders, rifle wrapped and staying nice and still made me basically invisible. Paired with both the VSR and mk23 being stupidly silent and I went undetected for most of the day, just posting up and covering a location, then moving if things got too dicey.
  17. So, the Nineball DYNA piston head sucks. It's too tight in the nozzle, meaning it doesn't return because the return spring isn't nearly strong enough to combat the friction caused by the o-ring being tight against the nozzle, even when coated in lubricant, leading to it not building enough momentum to load the next BB and gets stuck. I've since removed it and replaced it with the stock piston head in both my p226 and 1911 and they now cycle flawlessly again.

Been a while since I've been able to use them, so might use one instead of the mk23 this weekend as a sidearm.

  18. I'm going to agree here. If someone isn't making it obvious they're hit, I'll just put one into the plate carrier to be sure. Some players will casually walk down a path, hands still down on their gun, in the hopes that everyone will think they're dead and not shoot, then shoot everyone in the back when they get past, and one shot to the chest really isn't a big deal, especially since most people wear a chest rig or plate carrier that absorbs most of the hit. I've never had anyone moan about it to me, and I'm usually slinging .48s at 2.3J. I think a single shot is different to lighting someone up because you think they might be playing dead. However, if they still have their gun shouldered in the game area then they are in no position to moan. To me I'd see them as still in the game until the hand goes up and they call out "hit"
  19. That's some pretty serious teflon player action. I've yet to see someone take two shots to the face from my VSR and not call it, but they're .48s at 2.3J. I've definitely seen people shrug off multiple body shots though, even at that weight and power. And you just need a smaller 2nd gun. I bought a Cyma mp5k and it's not too difficult carrying both it and the VSR, though I'll agree it gets difficult with a larger secondary rifle. I did it with my 416 and it worked, but it was much harder and I'm 6'5 and heavily built, so two guns isn't as big on me.
  20. Was doing some general maintenance to my pistols and came to realise I have more pistols than long guns... And I want more! I still need a handful of parts to upgrade the STTI mk23 (bottom left) and the Bell 1911 (2nd from right) which I'll get first, but there's at least a TM HK45 Tactical, Bell m9 and Bell MEU on the list of pistols I want to add to the collection.
  21. As someone who uses a boltie, the number of times I hear this... It always amazes me when people are shocked that their stock AEG can't reach the same ranges as my painstakingly tuned boltie
  22. My mp5k or spring shotty always comes with me as a backup gun, regardless of what else I'm bringing. Always a good idea to have a backup! And you're totally right. Outside of gearbox related shenanigans, airsoft guns are really easy to work on. And even then, V2 gearboxes aren't that complicated once you open them up and have a look. I'll give someone a pass though if they don't want to crack open their V7 gearbox, as I've endured that pain myself and wouldn't wish it on anyone (unless it's a tech I'm paying to open it up for me, then I do wish it on them because that's what I'm paying them to do!)
  23. Yep. I'll always advocate for doing basic maintenance, tune-ups and simple upgrades yourself. It allows you to notice when something is wrong with your gun and immediately have ideas on what's wrong and how to fix it.
  24. I think I'll also echo this, but also as a recent HPA convert. I stopped playing about 6 - 7 years ago after I left university, but got back into the hobby 2 years ago. HPA wasn't really a thing back in the early 2010s, but now it's everywhere. However, I have also learned to love it myself. I converted my VSR to HPA and never looked back. The effortless bolt pull, the silence of having no moving parts in the firing mechanism and the silly levels of consistency are all priceless and I just don't find myself using my spring VSR ever. I don't think I'll ever fit the bill of a stereotypical HPA full auto idiot (they exist in the AEG variety too!) though, since it's hard to get silly ROF out of a boltie I'll also add another thing I learned recently: I don't like milsim. Gave it a shot two weeks ago and had fun, but I don't think I'd repeat the experience. It's total pay-to-win at night time, because the guy who spends thousands of £s on NVGs will just win against the guy who can't afford to do the same. Yes, people will say "but you can see the illuminator" and that's how I did hit someone while being otherwise blind, or "pop smoke to screw with it", but seeing a red dot in the darkness is very different to seeing everything plainly and smoke doesn't solve the issue as then nobody can see anyone and firing blindly can be dangerous. Also, I don't really like the whole idea of being told exactly what to do. I'd much rather be given an objective of "we need intel on X, and if you see Y they are a target of opportunity" then be left to my own devices on how to accomplish it, rather than being given strict orders on "we need you to go and do A". Also, I didn't really get an opportunity to use my boltie at all (which made me sad ), as most squad-based tasks were ill-suited to it, so I basically played the whole event with my secondary (stock cyma mp5k) and sidearm (upgraded TM mk23). And the most recent thing: I've learned that carrying a small, lightweight AEG at the same time as the VSR is a game changer. I may go back to just the VSR and mk23 for some games, as I just like pistols and like excuses to use mine, but carrying a small mp5k alongside the VSR has been super easy and super useful; having full auto for tight situations and allowing me to push aggressively when my team is inevitably all hiding behind a barricade, shooting at enemies far out of their range as airsofters are wont to do has been really nice. The mp5k + spare mags are really lightweight and I just unclip it from the sling and put it to one side when I get into a position where I'm lying prone with the VSR. You learn something new every day
  25. Why are Cyma stubby mp5 mags sold out literally everywhere in the UK? I need to resist the temptation to spend £140+ to get some (as well as other assorted goodies that I don't really need) from Taiwangun.

Well, I've placed an order for 3 short mags from them. Figured it was as good a product as any to do my trial run of them as it didn't cost much.

Fingers crossed for you, we're all having to make that sort of decision at the moment.  I'm still holding out for short M4 mags in the UK, given the problems we've seen.  I reckon I've got an AliExpress M4 solid stock that's been stolen by Border Force without notice.

On the MP5K, I just slap in a 500+ round double-stack mag as I leave the safe zone, then that's me done.  But of course those seem to be out of stock in the UK as well.

@RogerborgI've had that temptation, but the battle rattle is unacceptable for me. I've tailored everything in my loadout to be as quiet as possible (apart from the actual firing of the mp5k), so that'd be counter productive to the rest of the loadout. I might pick one up at some point and try it out at some point, but not yet.
