It came with a wee ir spotlight but its not working, either the electrics are gone or the bulb needs changed. Is there anything you'd reccommend if i cant fix it? I've heard a lot of "ir" torches put out a red glow which sounds like it might attract bb's....

The surefire vampire series of IR torches are very good weapon lights they pop up on real steel facebook groups every now and then. The head rotates between a white LED and an IR LED so it is basically 2 in 1 the IR signature to the naked eye is very low from those lights aswell. if you want some vids i can get some tonight for you?

Thanks man, i'll have a look.

Pulled the original illuminator apart but it seems its something electronic has gone on it, nothing i can visually see.

I have plenty of normal weapon lights so i'm not too fussed about it being switchable, but it sounds cool.

  2. Welp, seems like pew pewing on sunday isnt going to be happening, goddamnit!

  3. It takes experience, start with working on your own stuff and build from there. Most jobs arent too bad, the basic principles of the guns are the same and fundamental skills like soldering, drilling and tapping properly, the basic principles of fault finding etc are mostly universal. To quote my grandfather you need to know 2 things to fix something- what it's meant to do and how its meant to do it. I generally do all my own tech work, the only time i go to the shop is when its something that might need their resources, for example when sorting the ascu2 cutoff lever we literally ended up fishing through a box of assorted cutoff levers to find the 1 lever that had the correct throw for the switch. Fortunately our relationship is pretty decent insofar as they'll let me just tear away. Youtube videos can be great for sanity checking, for example if somethings a bit stiff and youre not sure if you should just force it or if there's some sneaky hidden pin/screw that you dont know is there. The other thing that helps is getting the proper tools for the job, for example you can use a screwdriver as a ghetto punch but in the long term the proper tool will make the job easier and less damaging, or you can use a standard alan key set with ball ends but proper hex drivers are an absolute dream by comparison and are less likely to round, same applies to keeping stock of spare screws that you can dig through and find a proper replacement. Also remember if you're resorting to ptfe tape on a component that didnt originally come with it on you've already lost (this has nothing to do with the amount of unnessecary ptfe tape i pulled out of a mates gun when i was working on it, nothing at all ) The only other thing is an attitude of doing things right, as a friend of mine says "you say you dont have time to do it right but you have time to do it twice", sure it might mean your pew is out of action while waiting for a part but that just means you dont have enough backups....

I heard the man knocking and had to lie there helpless as he either left it outside or took it back to the depot.

Ahh well, i suppose its no worse than being at work and missing a parcel.

  5. Urgh, straight from a cold into horrific back pain, this week is not being nice to me. I better damn well recover before sunday....

  6. urgh, ak stripping, sucks

  7. converter arrived for the mg42, working perfectly. now i just need to get the rest of it fixed and i'll be back to generating hatred at 1200rpm :P

  8. at moment in metro when you go for a sweet ass throwing knife kill, and you had a grenade equipped.....

  9. urgh, much tired. m4's back on form though, stuck it in 3rnd burst and hope it lasts longer.

Dunno how you cope running around in this heat? Dreadding next weekend if it's still hitting the high 20's!

That will be the majority of my evenings this week methinks.

  10. well, that's the m4 and the ak fixed.

now just to get a new barrel for the sig....

  11. well, that's parts on order for the ak/m4, the sig still needs a new outer barrel but i've given it a bit of a cleanup, also fixed the hop on the makarov so now it should be able to hop which should turn it into a little demon of a pocket gun

They recently renamed the Makarov in DayZ, I was devastated!

Indeed, its a very under appreciated gun imo, sure the real one is underpowered but it's a masterclass in engineering simplicity.

The we version is a cracking wee gun, great gas effeciency, kicks like a mule and apart from the lack of nub its got to be the best hop unit design i've seen in a pistol.

Now i just need to get it a holster and some spare mags....

  12. I kind of disagree that theyre useless, as a basic red dot whilst not parallax free (not that as you say it matters much for airsoft) still has the advantage of no eye relief and therefore excellent field of view for the majority of shooting. I dont think you even need any magnification to make hits, however what it can come in handy for is target identification and hit confirmation, the former you can do with the magnifier still flipped to the side then switch back to the red dot to do the actual firing. The latter is a bit trickier, as obviously a dedicated scope will have much greater clarity, its still useful to be able to sanity check your own shooting especially if you're pretty confident your on the mark but want to be sure before calling someone out. Thing is, with the fts setup you get both the flexibility of a no eye relief red dot for the majority of engagements, which is especially handy up close (ie almost all airsoft) with the ability to quickly identify targets or to sanity check against cheaters. Admittedly i agree that if your doing a dmr/sniper role where it is appropriate for permanent optics then an air rifle scope is definately a good option, but for assault style setups that only occasionally get pushed to long range precision then the fts is a valid option. Of course whatever you choose, with magnified optics theres no point doing it half way, do it properly with proper mounts and glass or dont bother.
  13. anyone know where one could find some nice wooden grips for a we makarov?

    1. Sniper780

      Sniper780

I am afraid to say that there no mainstream airsoft manufacturers who currently make wood grips for the WE Makarov the close you could get is the brown Fakelite  these ones here   https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WE-Brown-Grip-For-WE-Makarov-GBB-Series-WE0557-/281684074973

You could try to find surplus wood grips for the Makarov but I do not think there were many (if at all) that actually, real steel pistols manufactured that would have had the wood grips.

The American gun/surplus stores might have some but most properly will not ship to the UK.

hmm, food for thought. i have some contacts who might be able to source real steel ones which will possibly need modded to fit.

will have to see. kick off it's lovely though

  15. urgh, dreading sunday, it's last chance saloon for this site and i'm expecting the perfect storm of cheaters, speedsofters and inneffective marshals.

sadly it's the only decent outdoor site left that doesnt require a 6am start to get to.

escarmouche, tis in ni, i'll maybe write a review depending on how it goes. it's a shame because it's got so much potential if they put a bit of effort into properly marshalling the place, they've got a good thing going but the last 4 sessions it's been the same story of people not taking hits descending into anarchy, and a session shouldn't be something to dread.

still, hope springs eternal, i'm not the only one who feels this way and we're going to let them know it's one last chance to see some pro-active game control.

Seems the same as X-site, same old same old. Unfortunate. Hope all goes well

yeah, i mean the guy that runs it is nice enough, and he's putting the effort into tweaking the game design and trying out new things, as well as physically improving the site.

but sadly that doesn't mean much if it's infested with cheaters and they aren't doing anything about it.

  16. cheap fts magnifiers aren't worth it. the offset is due to needing to "zero" the magnifier itself to your red dot (it's not proper zeroing, just moving the red dot image into the centre of the image), the actual zeroing is done by the red dot, and should be done to as far as you are planning to shoot at. the main problem you'll find with the cheaper mounts is if you flip it over and back it'll not stay centered and there's no way around this than to put down the moolah for a decent mount. personally i use a UTG mount which is nice and solid, but you'll need a magnifier with the ability to adjust internally (my nuprol one does)
  17. just ghillied up the frontend of the m4, although i'm worried it might have angered the gods of reliable gearboxes....

  18. and now the only non working gun is the mg42, this feels good!

  19. today went well, turns out m4 had just dropped a motor connection rather than a dead etu, and i've made a beast out of that aksu merely by fitting a delayer chip and removing the recoil

  20. so, now i have an aksu, high speed build anyone?

Well this is going to be more my "so you wont take your hits eh?" Gun for when the m4, f2000, m203 and mg42 have failed to provide sufficient persuasion.

Also because its tiny and light.

Tis a jg recoil one, but the recoil will be the first thing coming out of it, needs a delayer chip but otherwise it's already a decent wee hose.

Although considering the potential to half stroke it and trade a little accuracy for a swarm of angry bees

    3. M_P

      M_P

Didn't even know JG did recoil stuff, is it a TM clone or something?

    4. Adolf Hamster

      Adolf Hamster

dunno, it's a different system to the pneumatic ones g&g use, regardless it's getting removed for the sake of reliability.

  21. urgh, so it looks like the p90 tappet plate is about 2.5mm too long overall for the f2000, as the nozzle when fully back is sitting too far forward.

might actually have to cut the nozzle which i'd kind of hoped i'd be able to avoid.....

  22. well, the f2000's semi auto problem is the cutoff lever is worn, although no idea about the feeding as it looks like the tappet plate is pulling the nozzle back as far as it'll go

  23. well, the ascu is now working great, but the bolt catch button isn't working so i can't program it to ignore the bolt catch. it's a catch 22.....

  24. face of the nozzle, like the one in your second pic, except drilled all the way through. plugged them with glue and it now works perfectly, or at least until the glue gets blown out. now to get the f2000 working.......
  25. the pair on the outside of the nozzle to help remove it, they go all the way through
