  1. Er, 338fps with 0.25g would be 1.32J, technically a Section 5 firearm.
  2. Wait, a drum mag? I've got a couple of the extended mags which work well enough (and don't like to drop out like the stock metal mags, yet another issue), but I've never seen a drum.
  3. Yes, you need to get the drop on someone to make them work. In any contest of reactions, or popping in and out to shoot, you're at a big disadvantage to just about anything else out there.
  4. [Sorry, I managed to double-post there. I think I was hitting CTRL + enter, my head was in Facebook mode.]
  5. [OK, let's try this again] Just for giggles, I fitted a TDC to my AEP and it easily over-hops 0.43g. Then you can run up to your target and let them know that the BBs will be along in a minute or two. But yes, at 0.4J you'll be using 0.2g, or 0.25g at most, and if you get a hit at a real (rather than airsoft) 30m, go and buy a lottery ticket.
  6. Well, they do work, and I have got hits with one (and some people even called them!). But as @Fatboy40 said, the trigger response is slowwww, you can actually hear them winding up on semi. I did get significantly better response when I shoehorned in a 1200mAh 25/50C lipo, full size Deans, and fatter wiring from battery through to motor. No mosfet, but those just take the trigger contact resistance out of the equation. I say better, but it'll still be out-gun-slung by anything except the limpest of AEGs. It was a fun experiment, as was playing around with the spring as the gearboxes are a wonder to behold. But the tiny motor and cylinder always limit what you can achieve with them. But... they do work.
  7. Agreed. I've gone longer for a DMR, but that was mostly to fill out the barrel extension, not because I think it adds extra kills-per-second. Considering that I'm getting 1.05J out of an M100 and a 110mm x 6.01mm barrel, barrel length at sane energies is more about the PP than the BB.
  8. Usual answer, only get an AEP after you've tried one and liked it. They're heavy, bulky things with fat grips, the semi response isn't great even on a lipo, and sub 0.4J makes them suitable only for CQB or going into structures. I've sunk a fair bit of of time and money into my CM.123 (lipo, rewire, bearings, heavier spring, trying to sort the air seal) but never got above 0.5J, or a trigger response close to that of a GBB, and, crucially, there's none of the blowback fun factor. So now I just strap my Galaxy MP5K to a leg panel and have something that's light enough to forget about but shoots 1J+ and is just about usable as a woodland primary while having most of the advantages of a pistol, and it's also upgradeable with AEG parts. Sadly, stocking is patchy, and we can only buy what we can buy. But on that, I'd be surprised if you can find a mosfet CYMA for close to £50 and in stock. Any hints as to where?
  9. Do I detect a recent watching of Forgotten Weapons? I believe I commented "This is the most airsoft looking gun ever made which doesn't have an airsoft version."
  10. Interesting stuff. I'm actually a little surprised that they used blank firers, given how prevalent CGI is now. See: Thor Ragnarock. Obviously upgraded to Asgardian technology...
  11. Yes, wages aren't that high there. As above, I'd strongly recommending renting at least once to see if you enjoy the experience. The classifieds are full of "Just unboxed to try it out, never got around to playing airsoft" abandonware. If you get on with it, then you can either play at least two more times over at least 8 weeks to get a UKARA number / site membership or other way to get your hands on a scary looking assault toy, or buy a two tone right away and then what you do with it in the privacy of your own shed, garage or sex dungeon is up to you. The BB doesn't know or care what spat it out. But definitely play first, before sinking money into it.
  12. That awkward moment when an ex-workmate asks when I'm next playing, as he wants to get back into airsoft again.

Nice bloke, but very much Gen-Z / Facebook generation.  Thinks airsoft toys should just work, has never even split his M4, won't do his own research, is constantly asking what he needs to buy and from where and how long it will take to arrive...

This is why I far prefer going alone, it can be bad enough just sorting out your own kit issues of a morning without feeling responsible for the guy who'll rock up at 10-to-briefing-o'clock with his hop rubbers dried up, batteries flattened, and gas mags pissing propane.

I offer advice, but I don't parent them. I'll give friends my advice, but I won't coddle them and make sure they've taken care of everything (as you said, it's hard enough to remember all my kit, let alone someone else's. I always forget my hot sauce for my lunchtime burger!). Mistakes are a fantastic teacher.

If the past year and a half has taught me anything, it's to just say it like it is and save yourself the time. If he doesn't like it then I doubt he'll be bothering you anymore, or he'll 'get it' and stop doing the bits that irk you (perhaps needing a nudge from time to time as a reminder). Either way, problem solved.

I get it's very easy to say, and awkward social interactions can be pretty painful... but don't let crap like this hinder your enjoyment of anything, irrelevant of what it is.

      what should I get tho?

  13. Yup, that's what I'd expect it to cost. Anyone charging less is risking being out of pocket. Although there used to be a £100 limit listed on either the ParcelFarce or RoyalFail sites, but that seems to have gone now. Or at least I can't find it, which isn't necessarily the same thing. It might be quite the bun fight if they dug up and revealed a secret limit later, after taking your money for providing extra cover. [EDIT] Found it here: https://www.parcelforce.com/help-and-advice/sending/prohibitions-and-restrictions This the wording that contradicts other pages, as it says that they won't send any firearms, components, RIFs or any sort of toy gun, except for low powered air weapons. We've had a handbag fight over this before, but seems clear that the Post Office will accept honestly described RIFs, and if they take the money, they create a contract. Arms and Ammunition - low powered air weapons Low-powered air weapons (air rifles, air guns and air pistols), together with lead pellets and other airgun and airsoft projectiles, can be sent but are subject to the following conditions: These items must be sent on an express48 service only These items must be sent via the Post Office only, and presented at the counter Enhanced compensation cover is not available I reckon if you declare it honestly (and can prove that) and if they take the money for extra cover, you should be OK. Although there's some danger that they might say "Here's your £100 plus what you paid for extra cover, go whistle for the rest." about 6 months down the line.
  14. Monster Energy from the site shop, then malingering after lunch, and going home at 2pm with a thumping headache, is I believe SOP.
  15. Ahoy and welcome. I'm not sure you're being entirely sincere about "experts" and "intelligent athletes", but we can work with it. Fat Losers thread: You're not going to get lean and fit just from crawling through the wood every couple of Sundays (weather permitting), so I'd drop the carbs, get on your bike, and view leaping through the undergrowth as the destination, not the journey. On the airsofting, the first thing I'd do it is to rent at your local site. You'll get a basic electric carbine, hi-cap mag and a bottle of BBs, plus some ropey eye protection for maybe £20 extra (and the BBs will be worth half of that). If you have a bad day due to nobjockey players or marshals, don't despair, try another site. You don't need camo or anything tacticool, just boots with decent ankle support, and I really wouldn't skimp there as you don't want to have to be hauled out of the depths of Mirkwood with your feet pointing arsey-versey.
  16. I think the answer is a definite maybe. The feature list is great, but Specna have a history of inconsistent QC due to changing OEMs. All I can say is that I'm happy with the basic Edge that I bought recently and can't find anything wrong with it, internally or externally. However, the Orion gearbox is picking up quite the reputation for cracking, even though they're radiused at the factory, so it's somewhat of a gamble. But then what isn't in airsoft? (Answer: a CYMA AK).
  17. That should be more than sufficient. I used 6 [edit, dammit] 8 PLI 0.7mm 2.47mm hole, and couldn't get it to dent in the garage with point blank 1.1J / 0.25g. Although I never actually used it in game (as I managed to get polycarb working) and of course, test as hot and heavy as you can. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/153822205824 And I'd agree with using stainless, what I actually got was the black epoxy stuff (because tacticool stealth) but that's going to be prone to spalling.
  18. They're dead simple to do, just fill the barrel, spooge some silicone (sugru, plumbers, I used RTV) into the window, scrape off the excess, and done. However... I used a 6mm drill bit packed with PTFE tape to fill the barrel. Nope. The RTV protruded very slightly into it, but that was enough to make it sky 0.32g even with no hop - I mean, with the hop arm actually removed, and just the pressure from the flat-hopped bucking rubber on the patch. So if you're going to do it, I'd get the barrel packed as tightly as you can, and leave the silicone to cure for some time before removing the packing. In the end, I scraped it out and went back to a Maple Leaf macaron 60 degree, which does indeed work just fine. That said, I'm going to try again on my backup-backup-CYMA and see if I can get it working next time.
  19. Hmm, that is an interesting design. If you turn the adjustment wheel by small amounts, left and right, can you see the final gear moving immediately, and directly? What I've noticed (on a cheap stock CYMA unit) is that the turning it right, and then a fraction left, or vice versa, just initially takes up free space between the gears as they reverse, and that free space could be enough to let the hop arm move in use. The Modify may be well enough engineered (I use that word loosely in the context of airsoft) to not have that issue though. When adjusting a rotary, I got into the habit of ending the adjustment by adding hop, not taking it off: if I needed to reduce the hop, I took it back too far, then added more on, so that the gears were meshed and putting pressure on the hop arm, without any slack. Then I binned it off for a ZCI rotary, and never looked back.
  20. Handy, given that their prices appear to be about 10% above PatrolBase to begin with.
  21. It's a compelling argument, but unlike Disney+, thefappening.plus is free to access.
  22. Disney+ Premium. You need to pay a subscription to be able to pay extra. Narp, not even for Scarlett Johanson GHK G5s.
  23. I did come close to buying a CYMA M14 to DMR, but the fiddly nature of them put me off. I'll regret it when my Specna gearbox grenades, mind, and given that everything we do is damn silly, I probably should have followed my heart rather than my head on that one.
