  2. Ask her to give you exactly what you want, explicitly, without any euphemisms or cryptic hints. 30 years of experience here, you can thank me in... I'm guessing 25 years.
  3. I simply won't reply unless I know what rank of Nigerian nobility they are. Real talk, I do just block anyone who comes across as a Joey. Life's too short to not plonk.
  4. Was the battery also lying around for years unused? If so then sight unseen I'd guess it wasn't capable of pulling the spring past compression, the motor stalled and the fuse threw itself on its sword. Unless there's a particular reason you want to stick with nimh then I'd agree with going 7.4V lipo, and I'd also lube the gearbox. At a minimum, get some silicone oil in there via the nozzle and the cut out slot, then blow it out the nozzle before putting the hop/barrel back.
  5. That's a bit peculiar. Is the M105 the same diameter as the Specna springs? I'm wondering if it's either sticking to the spring guide, or has too much free play.
  6. It's like you've never even met a Scotchman.
  7. Umarex / VFC did the same with their MP7. It's like they want them to be wall hangers or target range queens rather than actually used out in the muck and rain. Hmm, I guess that would cut down on warranty claims...
  8. Well, I find it funny when folk swear that a TM putting under under 0.8J will outrange a CYMA producing over 1.1J. A lot of airsoft is subjective, and there's a real aesthetic pleasure from watching a perfectly hopped BB float out there in a straight line - "shoots like a laser" is a very common claim. And I accept that TMs come with decent parts and can be very consistent - and consistency is what matters for hitting your target, at ranges that the BB will reach. But ultimately, a BB only has linear and angular velocity, and one with more energy (and sufficient backspin) will go further than one with less energy (and sufficient backspin). It doesn't know what toy it came out of, how much it cost, or how far you feel it should go. TM versus CYMA, the meme. TM vs CYMA, what matters. To be clear, I'm not saying "Don't buy a TM recoil", you'll be very happy with it. I am noting that if you stand side-by-side with someone with (e.g.) a nicely set up CYMA AK then you may find that their mundane BBs go just a bit further than your magical ones.
  9. That's what I'm doing. I have the CM.123 1911 and have drilled out the plastic under the barrel so that I can slide in a 116x17x13mm Turnigy nano-tech 1200mAh 2S 25~50C Lipo, with a Deans connector. It does improve the response and ROF over the stock nimh or a tiny lipo, but from awful to just mediocre. Adding a stronger spring degrades it again. There are loads of things that you can try with AEPs, and it's been fun doing so, but there's only so much that you can achieve.
  10. You can assume it, but it won't be true. The tiny cylinder volume is the limiting factor. I've tried the "M90" spring from Eagle6, and even with the air seal as good as I can get it, I've never seen over 0.5J (~237fps on 0.2g). The trigger response will never be anything like a gas gun. I'm currently running a 7.4V 1200mAh 25/50C lipo capable of delivering up to 60A, and the fattest wires that I can stuff in there, and it's still lethargic. It doesn't help that the triggers are also mushy, with none of the crisp clean break of a mechanical trigger. You can sink loads of time and money into them, but it'll never be as performant or fun as a gas pistol or an AEG MP5K.

Just to be absolutely sure, if your gun connector looks like the one on the left here, that's Deans ("T" connector).
  12. We're already in the realms where 0.8 = 1.1, anything is possible.
  13. Hmm, I wonder where he's sourcing all these "brand new, unused" RIFs from. I'd have to suspect that they're going out someone's back door, or are boneyard buys that may or may not work. Either way, I'd approach with considerable caution.
  14. I'm curious as to why you're asking £64 more than it costs to have an actually new, unused one with a retail warranty delivered to someone's door? https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/lancer-tactical-m4-cqbr-mk18-aeg-in-black-lt-02b.html

Hmm, Airsoft World say mini-Tamiya, but then retailers say a lot of things. Deans would be better. Given the stocking issue at the moment, what are we recommending? Component Shop? https://www.componentshop.co.uk/batteries/batteries-airsoft/batteries-airsoft-li-po-packs/batteries-airsoft-li-po-packs-74v.html SkyRC S65 charger is the current recommendation, last I checked.
  16. Specna Arms aren't the ideal choice for this, as the Orion gearboxes have quite the reputation for cracking, even though they're well radiused. That said, I've just done exactly that to a short barrelled Edge SA-02, and my parts list from ak2m4.co.uk was: Product Name Model Quantity Price Total Sub-Total: £51.00 Royal Mail 1st Class: £1.50 Total: £52.50 Omega Nub Hard 85 (Gear Parts) GPOMEGABLACK 1 £2.00 £2.00 ZCI Cylinder Stainless Steel (Closed) M60 1 £8.00 £8.00 ZCI Hop-Up Bucking 70° Black M104A 1 £2.00 £2.00 Rocket Selector Plate (V2) SECP02 1 £3.50 £3.50 XT Outer Barrel Extension (7 Inches) XTOB7 1 £8.00 £8.00 AOLS AEG Inner Barrel (455mm) AOLS455MM 1 £20.50 £20.50 Gearparts AEG Spring M130 GPM130 1 £7.00 £7.00 The bucking was to flat-hop, and I then s-hopped it, but ended up binning all that off and going with a Maple Leaf macaron 60 and the stock Specna Arms nub which is a decent shape. The selector plate was so that I could keep the stock one untouched. To lock to semi, you just file out this area. I've stuck with the stock hop unit, piston, head and nozzle as they're decent enough, and I also bought an M140 spring elsewhere, I can't recall which one I ended up going with to get to 1.8J, you'll just have to suck-it-and-see (then cut-it-and-see) to get it dialled in for your site limits. Gears are standard, and I'm running a Big Dragon M160 motor from Ali Express. SHS High Torques are quite popular. I'm happy keeping it on 7.4V, it's not like milliseconds of response is vital at DMR ranges.
  17. Drat, erratic problems are the most annoying. Well, if it needs shaved, it needs shaved. I had similar when I put a Maple Leaf into an MP5K with a bit of a peculiar hop unit, I just nibbled a little bit off the bottom lip to sort it.
  18. Let me just stop you there. No, that's it, I just wanted to stop you. If only you'd stopped there too.
  19. Triggered! [UPDATE] I mean... ahoy and welcome!
  20. Thanks, that's very informative. And that's less so. Why do you think the Specna metal bodies are more robust than the G&G? Do you disagree with the above? Truth is, either one should be fine, as far as airsoft toys go. Just accept that they are very expensive toys, and not pieces of quality engineering. I'd agree that G&G have been more historically consistent, but Specnas offer more features and better value for money - if you get a good one, which you probably will now. It's always a bit of a gamble. I also agree that the plastic bodied G&G CM16s are pretty good for the price too, and it's a really nice, light but strong plastic that's likely to take a drop better than random pot metal bodies. But then they've still got dial hop units rather than rotaries and no QC spring, so again, Specna Cores (or the cheapest Edges) beat them on features. None of them are bad choices, just get whatever you fancy and enjoy it.
  21. I also need closure on this anecdote! Sounds like the obvious stuff had already been ruled out.
  22. That's what I've gone with now, the lighter and more breathable, the better. 1980s style sweatbands actually work very well to prevent this. Buy two or three, and wear one while you air one. We've all got our own rituals for fogging. I go with fan goggles (FMA or DIY), dual paned (DIY), and Revision anti-fog wipes. Dye i4/i5 masks with dual pane ("thermal") lenses get some love, or if nothing else works, you can try mesh, and the gold standard there is Heroshark: https://www.facebook.com/Heroshark (the chap who makes them was just posting in this thread).
  23. I agree that consistency is what gets you effective range. But a 0.28g 1.13J BB with sufficient backspin will go further than an 0.28g 0.8J BB with sufficient backspin, because sadly BBs lack the capacity to keep believing in TM magic once they've left the barrel. However, this is a hobby, and it's all about what makes you feel good. If you do go with the TM, just stay away from marked distance target ranges, and sweary chaps on YouTube.
