I did not witness the hot gun incident, which is odd as I suspect that I was on the same team as the person who wrote the report; having seen players removed from the site for having hot guns, I would be surprised and very disappointed that this one was not, unless their hop was under set and setting it properly brought it under limits.

Very much a day of two half’s at Driver Wood yesterday. For me, the morning was a rather frustrating affair, and for the first time ever, I left a game slightly early to head for lunch as the enjoyment just wasn't there. The morning revolved around two games of circa 1 hour  - although with the larger numbers now experienced at Driver Wood since the demise of DogTag (I think there were 117 in attendance) the game time was eaten into rather a lot by dawdling players (despite pretty good efforts from the marshalling team to chivvy them along).  A slightly garbled brief from a relatively new head marshal (although by far not the worst I’ve experienced), which ended in the team count being messed up, with one team having 40 players more than the other. As people were already grabbing their arm bands when this was identified, it seemed to only be partially rectified. The two games that then unfolded were excruciatingly one sided, most notably the final game of the morning  - my entire team was pinned into a 40- 50m radius around our spawn in the corner of the site, barely able to  move out of it before getting shot. Tempers were flaring up as well, with  several shouted arguments between opposition players (not sure if it was just one 'bad apple' that was the root of it) - something that I haven’t really come across much before at the site. I also received a bit of verbal aggression myself when i attempted to re-spawn at our teams second spawn (Driver Wood have a 'hard spawn' and a roaming spawn marked by the teams flag) to find that the enemy had captured and surround it, despite our team flag still being there. I know the opposite team didn't have the best couple of games either, with some of them complaining that our team 'just weren’t moving about' (well - there was a reason for that!).

 

The afternoon was much much better - the numbers were lower with some leaving at lunch - and the teams were re-balanced (properly!). Some great game play, once again able to pull off some sneaky moves, and use the full expanse of the site.

 

Guns used - HPA L96 (not shooting as accurately as I would have liked), M16 A1 (with faux wood furniture), Mk 12 DMR, MP5. The Mk12 and MP5 were the stars of the show, particularly pleased with the Mk12 as I had built that from parts (supper accurate and long ranged), and the Cyma MP5 - with a simple upgrade to a MR hop rubber - was shooting beautifully (accurate and snappy).

So I have finally recovered from my Airsoft weekend! So I attended Frontline Events Seelow Heights WW2 Airsoft event. I have been doing there events for a long time now but I would thought I would share it with you guys. So Frontline Events focus on Historical Airsoft with a strong focused on WW2. They put on WW2 Airsoft Milsim over the weekend. Last weekend was Seelow Heights so the Soviets pushing the Germans back to Berlin this was a ferrous battle in real life and the Airsoft one was hard fought too.

 

So I arrived Saturday morning to the site I was lent kit for this event as I did not have any Soviet kit normally play German. Got all my kit sorted and got my trusty S&T Kar98k with ZF39 (this gun is upgraded heavily to be a sniper variant) so I was okay Soviet sniper on the Saturday and Soviet Scout on the Sunday roles very close but worked differently. So we went out strong the Soviets in true fashion walked and ran head on into contact! Took heavy losses we regrouped and attacked from another side, I was sent on a few solo missions to disrupt and distract the German forces I did this with grat success getting behind there lines multiple times. Best stand out moment was I climbed I tree took out seven German and they did not know I was there, once clocked me I slide down that tress like it was a fireman's pole!! Then on Sunday equipped with my GBB MP40 I was a soviet scout my role was to find routes or pockets behind the Germans lines to get out soviet troops through. We did this to great success getting behind there lines and capturing the German HQ. All in all another great event by frontline events!! If you ever want to do WW2 Airsoft or anything historical upto about the Falklands they are your guys to do it with!! Check them out.

That sounds rather cool!  I would be interested to see how their insurance covers tree climbing though.

Just got back from a day at sunny Worthing Airsoft, and yes it really was a lovely sunny day! I was a little bit sour because my Aliexpress order hadn't arrived yet (and you know it's arriving tomorrow!) so I couldn't run my planned civvie loadout or my new D3CRM copy, and with my OD trousers with a rather embarrassingly placed tear in them, I actually had to wear camo today. The ever reliable m81 trousers came out, but I made sure that was the only camo I was wearing; I love playing with no camo patterns because it really makes you have to think when it comes to remaining undetected and helps keep the skills sharp.

 

For guns, I decided to take my mk12 mod1 MWS, set up as a DMR, since I've only got 1 more bag of .48s, but loads of bags of .43s and it performed all day. I was tagging the 70m target with ease and even the 75m one with over half my shots, though I could definitely feel the difference in power from my usual 2.3J bolt actions to the 1.8J of DMR. I was watching my shots lose that power and consistency right at the edge of its effective range (which I class as 70m), where I know my bolt actions will keep that consistency for another 5 or so metres. However, the trade off is that I get much easier follow up shots. For sidearm I decided to use my hi-capa today, and that also didn't miss a beat.

 

Anyway, first game was a three base domination. Once they had split us into our two teams, I told my friend we were about to get stomped because a LOT of the regulars congregated around each other and got put on the same team, while me and my friend saw this and made sure to go on the other side. To nobody's surprise, we got stomped in the first game and I spent most of the time dissuading sneaky bushes from trying to flank behind us. Having so much experience as a sentient bush myself, and armed with a DMR today, I made a surprisingly good counter sniper.

 

Second game was the same three base domination, but with sides flipped and a few players moved across teams to help with the team balance. This one flowed much better and was a pretty great game. Me and my friend, both using MWS-based DMRs today, made a pretty decent pair and managed to cause some damage to the enemy team as they tried moving from one of the bases around the flank of another one.

 

Third game was a larger game that ran until lunch where basically there were a bunch of flip cans to control (yellow team wants the yellow side up, blue team wants the blue side up) as well as a LOT of collectibles. There was a... technical difficulty though, as the marshall who had us at our base got no radio communication that the game was started, so when he called game on for us, we made it about 20m out of our base before getting lit up as the enemy team had already been let out a minute or two earlier. The marshall did apologise and owned it, so props for that; basically the radios decided to have a moment and so he didn't receive any comms from the other marshalls for a countdown or the call for the game to start. What this meant is that me and my friend basically spent the entire game on base defence, as our base was situated close to one of the only areas where guns with an MED can perform well. I managed to crawl into some ferns (and some stinging nettles that were hiding there!) and had a great line of sight onto two trees and a barricade that the enemy team just loved to use, and I managed to get a lot of great shots onto them without being detected.

 

All in all, it was a really good morning, as I didn't play after lunch because my new purchase needed some range time (pre-ban Tanaka m24 😍). The weather was really good for airsoft today, hovering around 20 celcius and with a fairly low wind, relative to the very breezy game days we've been having. It was still somewhat windy, but it was nowhere near as bad. I know a lot of people complain when it's 20 celcius, but I used to live and play airsoft in Spain; we had to stop playing at around 2pm for siesta because it started to get close to 40 celcius, which was a bit too toasty... Furthermore, hit taking from the shots that I took seemed to be really solid. There was only one player who took a bit of persuasion, but the 2nd hit got him to put his hand up and walk back to respawn. That's the only instance of poor hit taking I saw, and it wasn't even that bad!

 

However, I will harp on like a broken record, because it really got put into perspective today with me playing elsewhere just last week for once... The site is too overgrown and really needs some attention; the entire bottom of the site is lost, the hill connecting the top and the bottom is lost, and the top of the site now is even starting to get really bad. Playing at Allsorts Airsoft last weekend really put it into perspective. At Allsorts I found myself naturally playing more actively, getting stuck into the games a bit more, whilst still being able to find spots where my 30m MED guns could actually do some work, without it feeling overpowered. At Worthing, there's just... too much foliage. Not just from a "it blocks my shots and makes a 30m MED incredibly challenging" perspective, but also from a playing aggressively and more actively perspective. At Allsorts, I didn't go in with the mindset of "I'm going to play active today", I just went in with my normal mindset and ended up naturally playing more actively. I went into today with the same mindset and... I don't like playing more actively at Worthing because there are too many bushes and it's incredibly easy to hide and ambush people; trust me, I've been doing it for years so I appreciate the hypocrisy in me moaning about it now. If you push up, you'll probably get shot by someone sitting in a bush elsewhere, and it leads to just... not as much enjoyment. It's far too easy to hide and far too hard to actually push, which can slow games down. Hell, I managed it today in my OD shirt and a scrim net that I sometimes draped over my cap and scope, with people looking right at me and having no idea I was there.

 

Next game day I'll have my full civvie setup, so flannel + jeans will be out in force. I will go into next game day with both in mind; I will see how much I can get away with when it comes to hiding, considering I'll be in black and white flannel, and some jeans, but I'll also try and spend some of the day playing more actively and see how it goes. Will be an effort, but science must be scienced!

Another great day at Invicta Woodlands on Sunday, hot and sticky but not a lot you can do about that on a warm day after a thunder storm. 

 

Being father's day it was fairly quiet with around 75-80 players, half the usual crowd.  No snipers, at least 3 mini guns and a lot of new players ment it was going to be a different kind of day. 

 

For kit I took my upgraded MP5K which I used for most of the first game until I got to hot and dumped it and its mags in the safe zone and went pistol only.  MP5 with a drum mag for the second game using it as a support weapon to help keep the other team pinned down.  For the last game I went with my new Sig 226 pistol only which made for a fun hour. 

 

First game was capture and hold the flag, two hour game which felt about right and due to the smaller than usual number of players the game flowed quite well, there weren't enough players to hold all of the flags so with a good push you could take a flag with 3/4 players.  This type of game can drag out with bigger teams as once a team are dug in you just can't move them.  Dumped the MP5K, mags, belt etc etc towards the end as I was just to hot, took the Sig 226 and a couple of 30 round mags out and just ran at the other team which worked well as everyone was flagging by that point, chalked up 3 back to back frags as I ran around the other teams flank. 

 

Second game was recover the boxes to base, first game we were trying to stop the other team.  Rules are you need two people to carry a box and you can't fire while carrying.  I used the MP5 with a drum mag (mostly) on full auto to help keep the other team from advancing. Really enjoy this type of game as they are very fluid with the action moving around the map with the teams and the boxes so its very fast and fluid, one quick advance or a well placed defender can change the game in a second. 

 

Third game was the reverse with our team moving the boxes, decided to leave the AEG(s) in the safe zone as it was scorching by this point, it was getting late in the day so I choose to play carry and run.  With just the Sig on my hip, a spare mag and one of the much younger rentals we grabbed a box and ran, and made it to the drop point before the other team got there to stop us.  Towards the end of the game when it got more intense I ended up with a riot shield in one hand and the Sig in the other heading to the drop off point, 4 rentals carrying boxes and a few team members providing cover fire, was one of the most intense fire fights I've been in and I will have bruises for a week. 

 

A plot twist was each team had 3x traitors who were wearing your colours but actually playing for the other team and you had to flush them out as you played. Got shot in the back while advancing a couple of times and called traitor on a team mate who was actually just a bad shot, LOL. 

 

Really great day out, similar games to usual but with much smaller teams the tactics and game play were different.  Liked the pistol, just need to learn to conserve the ammo and do some target practice.

I played up at Gunman Airsoft's Tuddenham site on Sunday. I booked in advance so signing on had no hassle and getting chrono tested was very straightforward. Primaries were tagged with one colour cable tie and bolt-action snipers, DMRs and LMGs were given a different colour to point out they were MED-restricted and thus not allowed to be used in the village section of the site - a sidearm had to be used in that case. 

 

The game rules were a bit challenging even for more experienced players but it added some variety even if the heat was on the forefront of a lot of our minds so I've probably recalled one or two things incorrectly.

 

In both games, we had a 3-hit rule before we had to return to respawn. The first 2 times we were hit, we had to go to a knee or sit and call for an unwounded player to patch us up in a 20-second count with both of their hands on our shoulder, taking them out of being able to shoot also. On your 3rd hit, you were KIA and had to return to respawn to start over. If after 2 minutes, you weren't rescued and patched up or you deemed it too risky to be helped, you could declare yourself KIA and return to respawn. You could crawl to a teammate but if you were hit again while crawling, you'd be KIA (regardless of it being your 2nd or 3rd hit) or if either you or your teammate had their hands on your shoulder to patch you up and either of you were hit you would both be KIA (regardless of it being your 2nd or 3rd hit or your teammate's 1st, 2nd or 3rd) and have to return to respawn. Due to the risk of grass and bush fires, pyro was limited to Mk 5s, EG Flashbangs and BFG/IGs and they could only be used inside buildings - anyone inside a given building number where pyro was thrown was KIA when it detonated

 

The morning game was a 3-way contest between two street gangs (red vs green teams) versus police (blue team - mostly marshals). The street gangs had to collect a narcotics package and return it to their respawn point but only "mules" (dedicated players with an orange armband) could pick up and return the packages so it was beneficial to set a strategy using players as cover for the mule when retrieving the package. The returned packages would be converted to product for the afternoon game for the street gangs' objectives. The blue team had to prevent "arrest" gang members on either side and collect their blue tag and if they collected half as many tags as there were street gang players, they would win. They also had to hinder the collection of the packages.

 

After the lunch break, we went back out and those running gas weapons were retested on the chrono. Anyone above the limit had to either power down their gun or wasn't allowed to field it. One bloke had to put aside his sidearm but he caused no fuss at all as he wasn't running a DMR or sniper rifle.

 

In the afternoon game, the street gangs retreieved packages were converted to product, which needed to be deposited in a safety deposit box on a given area at the site per gang. Each drop could only be completed with product, premium product and cash, the latter 2 of which could be retrieved from across the site only by the mules so again, the street gangs had to strategise to make their drops while the police had to thwart their efforts and continue collecting tags with their arrests with the aim of getting at least half of them. When you score a hit on an opposing gang member you could either claim their product if you saw them carrying it or you could ask if they were carrying if you couldn't see it and they were obliged to disclose and surrender it but only if you asked. Of course, you had to tread carefully to steal their product as you risked being hit by their teammates.

 

Despite the weather, gameplay was good with people calling hits, there were no arguments the marshals were aware of. There was some really good teamwork from all 3 sides to push forward, distract attention, offer cover for mules (gangs), provide supressive fire, etc. 

 

I was running a Double Eagle Noveske N4 MWS GBBR as my primary along with a WE Hi-Capa 4.3 as my sidearm.

Had a fun couple of hours on the range at Bespoke Airsoft in High Wycombe this week to try and improve my response time to target and accuracy with the MP5 and Sig 226.    
 

The lane had electronic targets linked to an iPad with a number of games, spent most of my time playing hit as many targets as you can in 30 seconds and shoot the hostage taker not the hostage.
 

Managed to get from 27 to 45 hits in 30 seconds with the MP5 and 14 to 30 with the Sig (with a mag change) big learning was ammo conservation, I will confess I am a bit of a spray and pray player but this taught me to make an accurate first shot count rather than sending 2 or 3 in case the first doesn’t hit. 
 

Two other lanes were occupied and we had a competition going between us for rescue the hostage, hostage target was green, hostage taker was red, hit as many reds as you can without hitting the green.  
 

Shop was well stocked (I only took 2000 BB’s so ran out) and reasonably priced. I Had a look at their walls of guns and they had some nice looking kit.  I wasn’t there to buy a gun so didn’t look too closely in case temptation took over.

Not so much about how my airsoft day went, but how preparing for Sunday went. I was picking out a rifle to use with my launcher for the 3D printed projectiles and thought 'hmm, it's been a while since i've used this, I should probably check and re-lube it if needed'. I took the gearbox out to find a few cracks around the piston head. The second I touched it, it came apart.

I had a spare G&G V2 gearbox shell but that doesn't fit in the Specna Arms receiver. RIP Specna Arms gearbox - 2 years in my hands and god knows how many in the last owners. ZCI replacement on the way from AK2M4.

The work/repair list now consists of:

  • Mk18 - new gearbox shell required
  • KWA KM4A1 - Got it from action hobbies but they failed to mention the gearbox shell was also shagged in this. Will probably use as a donor shell because of Colt trademarks.
  • Ares RDB - piston shredded or sector gear knackered I think
  • AR57 - requires Perun ETU installing after dud one bought from user on here
  • MP5SD6 - needs backdraft HPA unit fitting
  • HPA M4 - firing semi only despite having full auto functionality - was planning on using this tomorrow but now it's giving me issues :(
  • P90 long barrel - requires ETU installing
     

I've got a lot to be getting on with.

 

Update: As for the actual airsoft day - it went pretty well. I took the L85 to see if i'd solved the issue of the RNG accuracy and I hadn't so I brought out the sniper and that went very well. Using a new optic I can now see where the BBs are landing which made sniping way easier today - when I could see through the summer foliage that is. Armageddon is a very heavily vegetated site which hampers sniping a lot so you have to pick your position well. 

I got a fair few kills both attacking and defending and one i'm particuarly proud of was when attacking, I managed to shoot through a gap about 3" wide between some tyres to hit a guy hiding in a makeshift bunker. When defending myself and another sniper with a ghillie held down our complete right flank and some of the middle ground 'killing' 10-15 players between us.

I like sniping but I HATE the rubber(?) coating on the JG Bar-10 rifle stock. I've cleaned this thing several times and it always ends up sticky and bits start to come off. Will be looking for an aftermarket stock thats just as light or lighter. I like the look of the Maple Leaf MLC stocks, particuarly the S2 but no idea how they compare. Will have to have a look around.

Managed a half day at dirty dog in this ungodly bloody heat. Absolutely class time on the field as always and a happy first outing for my cyma aks74u which ran like an absolute dream even if all the zenitstyle furniture makes it weigh like a battle rifle. Might be time to pick up some classic wood grips.

 

Great sportsmanship from everyone with none of the all too common dramas that come from a day on the field. 

Only unpleasant part was learning even if it's hot to wear a mouth guard when a ricochet BB landed in my open mouth. I will admit I was relieved when I realised it wasn't a tooth. 

 

If anyone hasn't checked out dirty dog and it's somewhere reachable absolutely recommend it. Just maybe wait till it's not heat stroke weather 🥵

Played the full day today at Worthing (because while this weather is warm, it's not Spain levels of warm so I'm fine in this heat!), partially because I couldn't bring more stuff as we were down a car. The guy who usually drives our group had family stuff this weekend, so we got a lift up to the site with someone else but they didn't stick around as they had things to do. This meant I packed super light for today as I didn't want to leave any of my expensive and/or rare guns just sitting around the safe zone. Brought my full civvie kit to see what I could get away with (black and white flannel isn't exactly woodland camo...) and my aliexpress repro D3CRM, with my mk12 MWS as a DMR and my 1911 for a sidearm. Fortunately, the mk12 was shooting really, really well, as was the 1911 so no dramas there. Set the hop, set the power, went through chrono. The only thing I left in the safe zone was a mostly empty rifle bag, as everything else was in my 25L backpack that I carried with me all day.

 

It was... very muggy. It was overcast in the morning, but very warm and with how thick the foliage is it was like playing in a giant greenhouse, so it was a very sweaty day. I downed about 4L of water through the day and I still could've had more honestly.

 

First two games were very small scale. Had to control the saloon, with each team spawning pretty close. We swapped ends after the first, so both teams got to see what it was like. It was a good warm up game as if you got hit you were back in the action very quickly, and I had my first taste of "oh I'm going to get away with a lot today huh..." when I sat in a fairly thin bush in my flannel shirt and nobody saw me. My mk12 isn't exactly quiet either, being a GBBR, but I managed to go both games without getting shot while slotting in some nice shots through gaps in the foliage.

 

Second game was a big game that took us up to lunch. Each team had a bunch of bricks that we had to bring to one of the bases, but only one brick was released at a time, so we couldn't get our next brick until the current one was in place. Our team pushed up well and so I decided to take a rearguard position, as I knew with how the enemy team was spawning they'd be dipping to the bottom of the site to come up and shoot us in the side. And sure enough, not too much time passed before I caught a bush wookiee trying to sneak up that exact route. Spent most of this game relaying enemy movements to my team as they did objectives, with the occasional long shot or flank denial thrown in. Was a good game all in. I heard some players grumbling about hit taking, and someone did the angry "I'm going to full auto that guy in the back because he shot me and I'm butthurt over it" but that was dealt with very quickly by the marshalls. I also saw the marshalls actively enforcing hit taking as well; I had no issues myself too, so I think anyone with godmode was dealt with pretty fast too. Once the bricks were all in the base (which we got pretty quickly with our forward positions), we had to find gold bars and a 4 digit code. I have no idea how this went, because I think the gold bars were towards the bottom of the site which I'm not going to with my 30m MED because it's really thick down there.

 

After lunch the two games we played involved the bricks again, but this time there was a box in a really open position in the middle of a checkpoint along a long path. Only one brick at a time like the morning game and we had to put the bricks in that box. Neither team was allowed to push past the box, so it became a giant meat-grinder around the objective box. In the first ones there were some pretty good pushes on both sides, though I did have to highlight to the marshalls that there were a few players who were sprinting up and only calling their hits once they put the brick in the box, even though they were getting lit up on the way in. However, when we switched sides... it was a slaughter. My friend and I both set up with our DMRs on a tall barricade with a clear vision down the path and were dropping shots on them at 80m (confirmed with my rangefinder). They... couldn't get anywhere near that box with the two of us picking them off as soon as they tried and it was games like that that make running a DMR feel really cool.

 

After that we had timed attack and defend on one of the bases, where the game only ended when one of the attacking players gave the marshall in the upstairs of the base a fist bump. My friend and I set up on one flank, around that same path we just dominated but a bit further back and totally shut that area down. However, while we were there, two players got balanced onto the other team and made a mad dash into the base. I called it out as I saw them, but nobody listened and they then cleared out the entire base by themselves. Well played to them, honestly. Then it was our turn to attack and I managed to push up really far, getting into a spot that denied reinforcements one one flank in its entirety. Someone did get up close and saw where I was, but I managed to dissuade them with a few pistol shots (and the rest of my team pushing up on the other side adding pressure). As our team was playing far more aggressively, we ended up winning this one as well.

 

Final game was a simple 3 base domination. By this point there were only about 10 players on each side, but I set up on that path again to deny it as a route of ingress. I managed to get a bunch of people trying to go that way, with a few moody shoulder shrugs after I hit them at range, but then they pushed down the middle and cleared a lot of us out, my friend included (who called it there as he was out of ammo and it was the last game anyway). I managed to stay low and I took out the pair of players with my 1911 who pushed up aggressively, before turning my attention to the base itself as I had a line of sight into one of the entrances. I saw the blue armbands (I was on yellow) and posted a few shots through some twigs which was very satisfying. However, the most satisfying thing was that the marshall had no idea I was even there. In my black and white flannel shirt. Shooting a GBBR. And he only realised because I shot my friend in the back to get him to move out of the way (he was in my line of sight to the entrance!) and then was like "wait, who shot you in the back?" and then my friend said I was over there and then the marshall saw me. Who needs a ghillie anyway?

 

All in all it was a really great day, and I feel it went better than the last few. The games were really fun, with a good blend of silliness and seriousness for a skirmish day, and I had very few issues with hit taking all day. Everyone seemed pretty honest today, at least the people who entered my crosshair. No drama, just a good day of airsoft. Really needed that today and looking forward to next game day already. The maxx hop unit in the MWS is so good...

Today was an invitation only day at Airsoft Plantation, which was planned to run alongside a private event which was also running on the site.  The lad travelled down on Saturday, so we were a mini-team again.

Unfortunately, a number of players cancelled due to the intense heat, so a smaller than expected group of players were present, which made for a different and interesting day.

We started off with a simple game in the village; the attackers, with infinite regens on their starting point at the far end of the village, had to get a player onto the upper floor of the Cock Inn.  The defenders had two lives, one in the village and one in and around the structures on the high street.  I started off on our right, trying to prevent attackers pushing down that side.  The MPiKM scored many hits before a sneaky enemy potted me and I fell back to my second position, from where I continued to contribute to our defence until an enemy player managed to achieve the objective.

When the game was turned around, the lad and I, accompanied by our friend Tom, pushed through the brush on our right, slowly progressing against well positioned and determined defenders.  The highlight came towards the end, when the lad ran forward, crawled under one of the Land Rovers, and then stormed the Cock Inn; excellent play!

After a hydration break, we went out to the woods to play three "rescue the hostage" games.  The site owner was being held hostage in the kill house by two thirds of the players, who had one life in the woods and one around or inside the kill house.  Starting at the wobbly bridge, the remaining players, with infinite buddy regens, had to rescue him.  In the first iteration, our group of four players were in the defending group.  The lad and I took up positions covering the left and were soon engaged with some of the enemy, delaying their advance and forcing them to change direction.  However, I was eventually hit and fell back towards the kill house, where I was hit again in a confusing exchange of BBs with a group of our own players who had assumed that we were attackers.

The game was repeated twice so that everyone had a turn at attacking; our attack was not exactly great and we failed to rescue the hostage.

In the final iteration, the lad and I took up positions in the boundary ditch, planning to ambush any rescuers who came by; none did and, just as we decided to change position, the game ended.

After lunch, we moved to the mortar pits; the attackers had to get a sticker on each of the vehicles in that area except the bus, while we had to stop them.  The lad took up position on the top deck of the bus, calling out enemy movements and potting many of them with his Val.  This was a wild and challenging game, with small groups of players sneaking or charging around, engaging and then changing position.  When the game ended, the attackers had managed to sticker 10 vehicles.

When the game was turned around, we moved out of the hill fort, which was the starting point.  At this point, our team leader commented that "They don't seem to have moved up to the front"; he was then promptly shot by an enemy player who had done precisely that!  As before, it was a confusing and challenging game, with players popping up all over the place.  At the end, we had stickered eight vehicles.  The site owner commented on the quality of the lad's play and his tactics; clearly, taxpayers' money has been well spend on training him.

For the last game, the private hire group, who had not been involved in our earlier games, were invited to take apart in a game of Ambush with us as the ambushers.  As usual, this involved the potential ambushees walking along the high street, while we grinned at them from the buildings.  They could not shoot until we opened fire; once we had done so, they could move off the road and try to flank us.  Their aim was to get one player into the hut at the far end.  We were heavily outnumbered.  As usual, once the shooting started, this descended into mayhem as we were gradually overwhelmed.  I was eventually hit by a sneaky player just as one of their players made it into the target hut.

Despite the low numbers and the heat, it was a good day, played in a good spirit.  The hostage game was probably the weakest of the day as it was rather channeled, but it was still fun and the other games were excellent.  The private hire group seemed to really enjoy the final game although they were quite surprised by how much better our guns were than the rental ones; I suspect that a fair few of them will be back.  A few were asking about how to get a UKARA registration.

In between managing to drink three litres of water and sweating it back out immediately, I had a grand time. 

 

Had to take the rough terrain at a walking pace, which it turned out isn't that much of an impediment really. I even managed to stay ahead of the usual Treehuggers, who glue themselves to a piece of cover after getting shot at and don't move for five solid minutes

 

First time bringing out my VFC G3, which performed admirably, and my VFC AR, which uh, less so. The G3 was more than enough gun to carry the day and I got a couple of surprisingly distant hits with it. (The sheer joy of "suppressing" a guy hiding in foliage and seeing the hand go up. Very fun).

 

The site marshals had a split schedule planned. In the morning they ran a few skirmishy games to get people moving. Typical attack/defend with swapping over, and a domination game across three locations. The site is really fun with a lot of variation in cover, height, topography, so it's easy to keep it interesting.

 

The second half of the day was a crack at a longer, more narrative style game. This one had a couple of the issues these tend to have, a few too many rules not quite explained well enough for a wide variety of experience levels and playstyles. It was quite fun, but there's definite tweaks to be made to the rulesets. I trust them to run it well after some testing.

 

Overall the marshalling was very good, and play in general was very good. My team were competent, my opponents slightly moreso, and only one guy really stood out as being cheeky. (He was promptly sent home). Plenty of good banter, just a really great day.

Despite being very tired this morning after a few days away that involved a lot of walking in Dorset, I set off bright and early (well, at 07:00) for Airsoft Plantation.

After meeting up with the usual suspects, I took the LCT PP-19-01 out to test it properly with my new improved mags.  For those who do not know, the midcaps for this gun have huge feeding issues and, as everything that I had tried to improve them had failed, I was on the point of selling it when I decided to have one last try at sorting it out.  I ordered a couple of the Arcturus mags; unsurprisingly, they were completely the wrong shape for the LCT magwell.  However, after a bit of minor surgery to the internals and to a a couple of the LCT magazine shells, they fed perfectly.  Another seven were purchased and converted, all of which fed perfectly; success!.

The first game involved us, as the Red team, having to attack the village from the border and set off pyros in three named structures in sequence.  We had infinite regens on a marshal, while the defenders had two lives.  I started off on the left flank of our attack; the defenders put up a very strong resistance, which held us up for ages.  Having been hit, I moved over to our right flank, where we began to make progress as we wore the defenders down.  Pushing along the flank, we cleared the area around the Land Rovers and the fuel dump as our colleagues did the same down the other side and through the centre.  All three pyros were delivered to their targets, after which we went back to the safe zone to take on fluids and reload.

With everyone refreshed, the game was reversed.  I took up a position on our right, covering the routes that I had tried to use at the beginning of the previous game.  In a target rich environment, I got lots of kills; inevitably, I was eventually hit and fell back to the comms shack where a group of us put up a stiff fight until we were overrun.  The game ended with the Blue team achieving the objective four minutes more rapidly than we had managed.

After taking on more fluids, we set off for a slightly different game.  Eight of us were each given a very large bank note (about 30cm x 15cm); setting up in the mortar pits, where we had one life each, we had to prevent the attackers from obtaining the bank notes for as long as possible.  Once they had them all, they had to deliver them to the plane at the DEA base; the catch was that, in order to travel from the far end of the of the site to the mortar pits and then to travel from there to the DEA base, they had to take the double decker bus.  As many players as there were seats had to travel on it, singing "The wheels on the bus", while everyone who could not fit on walked behind it.  Nobody could fire and the walking attackers could not spread out until the bus had stopped.  We had one life at each of the mortar pits and the DEA base, while the attackers had infinite regens on the bus.  Crawling under the Bedford, I attempted to hide myself in the rather limited area between the bottom of the wooden deck and the cross members below it; if I had been somewhat smaller, this might have been more successful!  However, it worked reasonably well, as it took the attackers a while to find me and, when they did, I shot a fair few of them.  Having been well and truly peppered with BBs, I eventually managed to extricate myself from my hiding place and handed over my bank note.  Joining my colleagues and taking up a position in the bushes at the DEA base, we awaited the arrival of the big grey bus.  Once it stopped on the edge of the DEA base, it was greeted with a hail of fire, but the enemy who had followed the bus on foot engaged us and, eventually, they managed to get the money to the plane.

It was now lunch time and, as I was enjoying using the PP-19-01 so much with mags that actually fed, I decided to use it in the afternoon; therefore, I put the battery on charge.  AP has a few basic chargers for players to use.

As it was the second Sunday of the month, the regular raffle was drawn; the proceeds from this are used to pay the waste disposal costs for the site rather than putting the price up.  As usual, I did not win.

After lunch, we went back to the village; we were attacking from the fire break with infinite regens on our start point and our aim was to get as many players as possible into the town hall by the end of the game.  The defenders had two lives each.  As we could attack from anywhere along the firebreak, I joined a group who were pursuing my favourite approach of sweeping around the far end of the village and attacking it from the rear.  We got held up by a fierce resistance in the woods, but fought our way to the sniper tower and the blue barrels, where we were again pinned down.  Pushing out slightly, I moved into the suburbs, where I was promptly shot by my own side who assumed that I was a defender.  Some of our team were getting into the town hall and, just before the game ended, more of us made a run for it.  A few were hit along the way but the rest of us piled in, with me being the 31st and last.

When the game was reversed, I occupied the first floor of a structure on the main road across the front of the village, from where I could pick off attackers over a 90 degree arc and also call out enemy movements to my colleagues.  They pushed hard and we held them back, but it was apparent that the bulk of them were advancing through the suburbs, so some of our group moved to help resist them there; when the game ended they had managed to get 30 players in the town hall, so I am claiming that as a personal win :).

The plan for the final game was to reverse the bus one.  We set off from the far end of the site, with the players on the bus singing the annoying song; having sung it so many times to my boys when they were little, there was no way I was going to sing it again, so I walked behind the bus.  As soon as the bus halted, a cease fire was called as a pyro had caused a fire; this was put out and the game resumed, only to be halted again almost immediately as one of our team had managed to injure himself.

While he was attended to, the rest of us moved to the village for a game of capture the cow.  We started by the safari car, while the blue team started at the border; the cow was positioned by the well in the village.  When the game started, a group of us moved towards the direction the enemy were coming from in an attempt to prevent them getting into the village or at least delay them until our colleagues could grab the cow and get it back to the safari car.  This plan worked well apart from the bits about us stopping or delaying the enemy and our colleagues grabbing the cow.  After a good, hard fight, the enemy managed to grab Ermintrude and get her back to their start point.

As usual, it was an excellent, if very hot and sweaty, day of challenging airsoft played in a really good spirit, which seemed to be enjoyed by everyone, with the possible exception of the chap who injured himself at the end.  Hopefully, it isn't too bad and he will soon be back out on the field.

That was... really good today. Went to Worthing Airsoft as usual for an absolute scorcher with my MWS-based mk12, as it was shooting really well last game day and today was no different. I was using a much lighter kit today, as I removed the PRS stock from the MWS in favour of trying a CTR instead, and I did like it a lot. The real-steel Magpul CTR stocks clip really sturdily into place so there's basically no stock wobble with them. Sleeper-mega-upgraded Bell 1911 as my sidearm as well, as it feels just so nice to shoot, and this weather is perfect for it with its heavy metal slide.

 

First game was a big game that lasted all morning with loads of objectives. There were collectibles that we had to recover and bring back to our base, but these could be stolen out of each team's base, as well as blocks of "uranium" that were needed to make a bomb. There were 5 blue and 5 yellow blocks, with each team not being allowed to interfere with the other team's blocks, and once all 5 were collected we had to bring them to a scientist who was roaming the gameplay area and escort him to one of the bases. The scientist had to be controlled with a hand on his shoulder, or he could shoot, drop pyro and be a general nuisance and could only be subdued for 90 seconds with leg shots. I decided to set up near our base to dissuade any sneaky antics from the yellows. Managed to pick a lot of people off trying to pop out from a thick area of vegetation, but mostly spent the time relaying enemy movements to my team. I did hit a very sneaky yellow who went all the way around the site and was snooping around our base. However, my magnum opus came as the yellow team had the scientist and did a massive push to the base they needed. I hadn't been cleared and had a great line onto this base, so I played patient and waited for the yellow team to push with the scientist into a little killbox area before I went to town on them. This was a prime example of a DMR being far more useful than a bolt action as I was able to, over the course of about 5 minutes, clear out pretty much their entire team as they tried to medic each other, crawl out and generally try and survive the mean flannel with the GBBR DMR who was bullying them 🤣

 

I did get taken out eventually because my friend got the scientist and then led him right over to where I was, only for the scientist to get shot and take a knee in the open. We managed to recover, with me pointing my pistol at the scientist's legs to stop him from doing anything against us, however I spotted a lot of yellows trying to push out from where I could no longer cover because I had to keep the scientist under control. I told the 4 players near me that they were massing at this exact point, but... well, you know nobody listened and then all got taken out from that exact position. I managed to keep low enough to remain undetected, but then traded with a yellow player who pushed up to grab the scientist. After that I respawned in and spent the rest of the game trying to hold back what seemed like a yellow tide as we got pushed way back to our base. Once again, got a lot of kills with the MWS, and bounced a BB off a rental's mask that he just... ignored, though eventually it was lunch time and the game was over. Pretty sure we lost that one, but it was at least closer than it felt at the end.

 

After lunch I was a proper mercenary. Because the marshalls kept swapping me and my friend between teams as the ebb and flow changed and more and more players called it early because they were melting. First game we were still on blue and we had to defend the same base that we had in the morning, with yellows having to get into it to plant a bomb to blow it up. Got into my same position as the morning and continued to pick people off trying to be sneaky. Yellows got nowhere near the base.

 

Then the next game was a timed assault on the tower base. We were still on blue and we attacked first, with me and my friend deciding to go on a long flank to take up a position to pincer the yellows with the rest of our team. It went pretty well, with my friend pushing aggressively to clear some players off, then I tucked in and got into a position to cover both the entrance of the tower itself and also another popular spot that the defenders liked. Spent the whole game clearing people off those two spots and our team eventually got in. 12 mins isn't a bad time, but the defense would be tough...

 

...is what I would say, but me and my friend got balanced onto yellow team, so on the attack again we went. You bet we did the exact same thing, but blue team were wise to my shenanigans and were spraying the area I wanted to go intermittently. However, their focus on me and an unfortunate wind direction carrying the red smoke (red smokes are incendiary at Worthing) allowed my friend to push up super quickly and just... take them all out. By the time I got into my spot, we got into the base and completed the attack on the yellow side. 7 mins and change.

 

Then last game of the day was a three base domination in a very close area of the site, all around the tower area. And you know me and my friend got balanced back onto blue team after the numbers were called in. 6 blues vs 18 yellows wasn't exactly a fair fight, so they balanced the two of us, plus another experienced player so it was 9 blues vs 15 yellows instead, but with some experienced players on the 9. The game ended in a draw, but only because someone managed to throw a red smoke grenade right next to the tower which totally cleared it out. We were dominating for most of the game controlling all three bases for most of the game, but they managed to grab one back and then deny the third with a smoke at the end leading to a draw.

 

I love hot weather airsoft. This is my thing and I thrive in it. When winter rolls around I'll be moaning and groaning about the rain and the cold and the general horrible conditions, but for now... all those people who teased me for being a "fair weather airsofter" but can't handle a bit of heat... Oh, I'm loving watching these very same people now struggle. Fair weather airsofters, the lot of 'em! 😈

 

And the flannel is too OP. Started joking it was my flannel of invisibility with how much I was getting away with through the day. Going to pick up some Hawaiian shirts from Aliexpress when their sale goes live tonight, mostly because they'll be thinner than the flannel (the flannel is a bit heavy for this weather), but also because they're even more obvious than the black and white flannel I've been apparently invisible in.

Played Apocalypse Sunday Skirmish. Had a really good time. 

 

New site for me, free game courtesy of the Modern Warrior airsoft shop which they offer if you spend £150, nice. 

 

Site was very nice and well maintained, not overgrown like a lot of woodland sites, lots of structures/barricades to clear or hide out in.  Lots of open 'no mans land' spaces to negotiate in the mix. It was busy but its a big site so there was space to move without getting shot at and with the layout there were good opportunities to flank the enemy positions or try to come in from another direction.  

 

Only real challenge is the walk up the steep hill from the car park, had to do this twice to get all my kit on site.  I will pack better next time.

 

Was a misty cold start, then a bit of rain before it turned into a sweat box 2/3 seasons in one game day, double nice!!

 

Games were great fun, nice mix of attack and defend for all sides in every game compared to the usual playing each scenario twice. 

 

1st game was rescue the injured pilot, we attacked the other team to rescue the pilot then had to take him/her back to a location and defend until extraction.  Lots of different play going on with sniping/DMR keeping us in cover for a couple of players with pistols / AEG's to sneak or run at us.  We only just held out with the other team making a big push in the last 5 minutes. 

 

2nd game was pure domination, 3 locations, hold 2 out of 3 at the end to win. We held 1 until the last 2/3 mins when a group of about 10 of us at respawn decided to have a suicidal rush at one of the locations. We took it right before the end of the game and were lucky the game ended when it did as the reds were using the same tactic in the last few seconds to take it back. 

 

3rd game was capture the flag. We were split into 3 teams and had to capture the flag and return it to our base while the other 2 teams tried to do the same.  Was a great game and not one I've played before.  We had a fast paced teenager who ran in, grabbed the flag and took it back to our base very quickly while the rest of us provided covering fire. It was then a game of keeping the flag for 45 mins, as expected very intense towards the end.  I ran out of BB's and the battery was running low in the MP5 so had to drop to my trusty Sig in the last couple of minutes, should use semi more, it's not a LMG!!

 

Gun choice was the Cyma Platinum MP5 and WE Sig 226, great combo and they shot really well.  Also took my newly acquired (used) TM AK47 EBB for bad guy duties, it chrono'd well but died after a couple of mags, just stopped working and doesn't make the Gate boot up noise so suspect something electronic, maybe a fuse if it has one, has fried and needs investigation. 

 

Players were 99% friendly, a couple of lads got a bit salty with the Marshalls at one point.  Hit taking was very good and incoming fire stopped as soon as you put your hand up which is a nice surprise from the last couple of sites I've played where overkill is the name of the game. 

 

On site shop was good, well stocked and very busy.  Didn't have anything from the burger van but given most of the players did I can only consider it as good. 

 

Will be going again!!
