Right, so where do I start?

Hey all! I'm sorta new to the whole airsoft scene, I started off with an R700 fully loaded it was legit however... I lived at home then and my mother took it to the police station! It was two tonned so they just laughed at her 😂 anyways, I've got my own place and can have my own things ( Big boy I know ) lol, I'm not currently UKARA registered so yes I have to have that lovely bright colour making me stick out like a dick! I'm just curious will I get ripped to bits for having a two tone? Also I'm a socially switched on guy but my mates don't want to go with me as its apparently not their scene... will I be accepted for just rocking up on my own?

Thanks for your help!

Hi and welcome. Nobody will say anything if you turn up with a 2 tone gun. If they do they're bell-ends. There will usually be a couple of people with 2 tones at most games. It will make you stand out a bit more but you can buy camo tape to help hide the bright bits.

I play on my own and just turn up and do my thing. I usually do and up chatting to strangers once there at some point so don't worry about not having friends to go with. Just rock up with your stuff and have a good time.

Welcome :)

No, you will not be a pariah for having a two-tone gun, although some sites or events do not permit them for reasons of realism.

Like any sport you will get a mix of people playing it. I think we tend to be approachable and friendly. Many of us start out solo and you just need to choose a site, book it if necessary, and turn up. The sooner you start the better. You find that you will get chatting to other players on your team or the people next to you in the safe zone between games. We all like to show our guns to other people, exchange views on what kit we have, and talk about how the skirmish is going, etc. It does seem daunting at first but do not be put of by the kit people wear, just because they look elite does not make them an operator, conversely just because someone has a particular load out does not make them a tosser either. Let them know that you are new, decent players will help you out and make you feel welcome. Not having an expensive gun should not cause others to laugh at you, to be honest I cannot tell what make of gun other players are using, so it is more about how they play the game. Just take your hits, even if not sure if you were hit, you will find the often repeated walk back to respawn lets you think about the game and learn the layout of the site.

Have a read through the forum for past threads, there are some useful bits of information and advice, as well as totally off topic randomness (but that is the fun of the forum). Just please use the search function.

Welcome dude (or lady-dude).

Nobody will ridicule you for having a two-tone gun, or they won't do it seriously anyway... you might get a few tongue in cheek comments but it'll just be a bit of banter :)

One thing that I don't think has been pointed out to you yet though, is that first of all: Owning a non-two tone Airsoft gun without UKARA is not illegal. UKARA (or any valid defense) is only required for purchase... Now I'm not suggesting anything here but on a COMPLETELY UNRELATED TOPIC: spray paint is pretty cheap.... ;)

Another thing worth considering is that most sites offer rental packages - might be worth trying them out, as they aren't usually a lower quality than an AEG that a beginner would use anyway, and you know that the FPS (that's the feet-per-second velocity of the BB leaving the rifle) of a rental will be compliant with the site's rules.

Above anything else, bollocks to any negative stuff people have to say to you, or about you - just enjoy it mate!

I actually prefer going on my own. If you feel the need to chat there is always plenty of people willing to socialise. But if on the other hand you just want to get on with your own day then you can, best of both worlds.

Nobody should have any issues with you being new and having a two tone but if you are unfortunate to come across one of the rare sniggering idiots remember its their problem not yours. Most airsofters are generally pretty friendly and decent.

I don't mind travelling ( obviously within reason haha )

You will be fine mate as everyone has said just turn up and play and take your hits in no time you will be chatting to people and making new friends. I started up again after years away from airsoft and now have a large group of friends and am now in a team.

This person speaks sense!

I went to a night game as my first airsoft outing and I didn't know anyone. Now, I am mates with loads of people at my local site purely from chatting in the safe zone. I often just turn up on my own too.

And like they say above, if anyone rips you are a two tone gun then shame on them, as there is nothing wrong with it at all.

Jut get stuck in and talk to people in the safe zone and enjoy :)

Welcome to the group and the sport.

You'll be made more than welcome if you rock up to a site on your own. Just play fair and have fun.

I wouldn't spray it until you had your UKARA or another defence. It could be a criminal offence.

Section 36 makes it an offence to manufacture, import or sell realistic imitation firearms. It also makes it an offence to modify an imitation firearm to make it realistic.

I'm no lawyer but that could cover spraying it.

At my site loads of people use two tones so don't worry. No matter what people with expensive guns say, they don't make you a better player ;-)

Yeah, hey, welcome to this place.

I turn up with my brother, so I essentially turn up on my own haha. It's fine, you'll meet knew people and talk etc. people are quite open at airsoft games I found

Yes, I did speak to said brother, but you do find some cool people to talk to. For example, I was walking through some woodland shrubs, and stood on a ghillie suited person. There, someone to talk with aha.

Agreed- but if he's going to a skirmish, in the eyes of the law, he actually has a valid defense - regardless of UKARA. If he wanted to really cover his own arse he could get them to write him a receipt for the game day.

First off anyone who jokes about you having a two-tone gun is either engaging in a bit of friendly teasing or is a dick. Either way don't worry about it, you won't be the only one there using one.

Secondly, come and give us a go at out Eversley site, we run an open weekend every month and the player community is awesome :)

Thirdly, as long as you are using it at an organised Airsoft game with the correct public liability insurance in place (hopefully any site which charges for entry) then you're covered by the section 37 defence if you decide to spray your gun a more realistic colour.

You don't say how old you are (or I missed it), if you are under 18 you will have to get someone else to buy the spray paint lol
