Hello all,

Hopefully you guys will be kind enough to help me out.

I'm looking at buying my first RIF and need some help with battery options. I'm probably going to purchase a G&G CM16 Raider-L, my budget isn't huge and I don't want to go OTT on my first RIF.

In an attempt to keep the cost down I am going to try and source batteries and a charger from other sites, (looking at zeroone for the RIF at £124 http://www.zerooneairsoft.com/product_info.php?products_id=5774 ). On the zeroone page it suggest that I might also like a " Zero One 8.4v 2200mAh NiMH High Performance Battery for Crane Stocks". Would this be what people suggest for this RIF? What is the difference between that and this http://www.componentshop.co.uk/8-4v-2200mah-4-5sc-nimh-cranestock-battery.html ? If any?

Additionally, would this charger be ok? http://www.componentshop.co.uk/600ma-smart-charger-for-7-2-8-4-9-6v-battery-packs.html

Open to all suggestions, tips and input. I'm fairly sold on the RIF and the Nimhs, purely for budgeting reasons. But would like to know the right/best battery I can use on this RIF as stock?

Thanks in advance,

LAFTA

Not sure on the charger but both battery packs are more or less the same.

8.4v however can give a sluggish fire rate, well for me. If you want to spew bbs out a little faster then get a 9.6v.

9.6v nimah or 9.9v LiFe are around the max I would go to before needing a mosfet

the zero one battery is a 3 stick crane - the middle stick can be a little fiddly to get in there

but does go in, you need to probably have the stock back a click or two to fit it in there

charger is ok - it is a smart charger meaning it won't keep charging or over charge the battery

it stops charging once it is done - old types you have to calculate the charge time and keep checking it ain't too hot

still need to keep an eye on ANY battery charging - never charge on bed/carpet but on a worktop

normal common sense stuff

if you are going to a full day skirmish you might get by with a 2200mah battery but depends on your gun & trigger happy etc....

many get two and change over at half time to save running out of juice halfway through afternoon

newer option is lipo but all batteries will need owner to check dimensions thoroughly before ordering

(lipo/life have different chargers to nimah's or you can get the more expensive "charge anything" mofo chargers)

I have a G&G Raider-L and have used 9.6v 1600ah nimh double crane stock batteries for the last two years with no problem. Butt stock is a SOPMOD model.

Definitely makes the rate of fire quicker :)

Folks ordering VHS tapes along with these NiMh batteries?

Get on here http://www.componentshop.co.uk/

Get 7.4v LiPo or 9.9 LiFe (similar results generally), better in every way. Do not waste your money on heavy, bulky, over-priced obsolete batteries, totally pointless.

loads of cheap chargers for lipo's

but most go for the B6 type with faster charge options

Usually lipo chargers will require a 12 to 18v seperate psu to operate the charging unit

with an amperage of 1a to 5a output

at a push you can scrape by with very cheap lipo chargers and longer recharge times

I have 2 smart (might have a 3rd somewhere) & 3 cheap - bloody cheap like under £7:50 chargers for lipo's

and just leave them trickling away, some say very low recharge might not good for lipo's but so far all still ok

you can pay £30+ for a top of range lipo charger

or £3 from hongkong pile of crap trickle 750mah lipo charger

Some are 240v like B3 AC but watch out for clones - got one of those B3's and was buzzing like f*ck

yeah right chucked that in the bin

like cheap iphone chargers you gotta be very careful on cheapo nasty fake $hit that might pose a risk of fire

that is charger not the lipo itself, coz lipo's are so dangerous that IS terrorists have started to use them

(no I am being silly as per usual - not had a lipo explode on me - yet)

just saying there are cheap & very cheap stuff out there but you need to be careful if buying on the cheap

or buy from a good UK retailer to be sure of getting a safe charger that conforms to our safety standards

It's budgetary reasons that I am opting for the NiMH.

Or is there a cheap yet reliable charger for LiPos?

Follow through the link I posted, they do a good LiPo charger with appropriate mains adapter that I've been using for years and charges batteries quickly for about £13.

If budget is a concern, NiMh is an even worse option. Airsoft stores charge f*****g stupid money for obsolete batteries, whereas you can pick up a 7.4v LiPo that'll easily last a day if you're not a hi-cap spammer for £6-8.

Spend a little extra and go for a 7.4 lipo from component shop.

Spend a touch more and buy 2.

If your going to skirmish the RIF you will want the extra battery too. Nothing worse than a battery failing or running out of juice on a game day if you only have the one and no back up weapon

I know your budget driven, we have all been there. But sometimes you just have to stump up the cash for this game!!.

Raider ordered.

Just to sort these batteries out now. I seem to have a shortlist of two cranestock LiPos.

http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-1300mah-25c-continuous-discharge-cranestock-lipo-battery.html

Or

http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-1450mah-20c-continuous-discharge-cranestock-lipo-battery.html

I assume they will fit into the stock? What do the different outputs mean? Burst and continous, I'd guess higher is better? Lol

Additionally, I'm assuming again that they are Tamiya connectors in the Raider, or mini Tamiya?

Help?

What sort of amps would be best for a 7.4v LiPo for a raider?

The amp number is just a measure of capacity, more = more shots. The numbers that matter are your voltage and C (discharge) rating. Basically stick to 7.4 for most guns, you can't go wrong. A C rating around 20 is fine for pretty much everything, but small changes in the discharge rate don't make any big difference really. Long as you don't go too high, you'll be alright.

Help?

Get this charger:

http://www.componentshop.co.uk/quickshop/index/view/path/800ma-charger-for-2s-or-3s-7-4-11-1v-battery-packs-complete-with-mains-power-supply.html

And a couple of these:

http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-800mah-20c-continuous-discharge-airsoft-lipo-battery.html

The batteries will fit in the buffer (stock) tube. That's the other good thing about LiPos, you don't need the extra storage space of a crane stock if you want to use a thinner stock.

Going by the recommended battrey for the RIF on the zero-scum page it's a mini tamiya connector in the rifle, which would make sense as most AEGs use that connector. I don't recommend shopping there in future though, there's much better stores out there run by higher quality people who don't sell knock-off shit as the real deal/provide some of the worst customer service in the industry. They don't deserve your money.

Sorry, more questions.

Safety issues regarding charging LiPos. The previous charger I was looking at with the NiMh batteries was "smart". So it would cut off when the battery reached capacity. How does the above charger work exactly? Having a quick read it seems that if you want to charge LiPos safely you need a high end charger?

Help! Again!

Edit: And those batteries you linked are only 800mAh. I was concerned a 2000+ wouldn't last me a day which is why I wanted two smaller ones. But these are less than half the capacity so they aren't going to last either?

2nd Edit: Leaning towards these? http://www.componentshop.co.uk/7-4v-1300mah-25c-continuous-discharge-cranestock-lipo-battery.html

And the battery you suggested http://www.componentshop.co.uk/quickshop/index/view/path/800ma-charger-for-2s-or-3s-7-4-11-1v-battery-packs-complete-with-mains-power-supply.html has aboslutely no spec or anything on the site, in fact it says ??????????? in that spot.

Why do you suggest that one rather than the previously mentioned one? http://www.componentshop.co.uk/700ma-charger-for-1s-to-3s-3-7-7-4-11-1v-li-po-and-life-battery-packs.html for the same price?

Again, thanks for all the advice. Sorry for all the questions, just want to try and get it right first time :)

The charger I linked is 'smart' I can assure you. It cuts out once the pack is fully charged. Been using it fine for at least 3-4 years, absolute piece of cake.

An 800mah LiPo lasts way longer than a NiMh of the same amount would. A couple of small LiPos will do you just fine if you swap at lunch. Buy 3 if you're really not sure and plan on going through 2-3k BBs per day, personally I only shoot about 1000 tops in a day, sometimes half that, so often a single 800mah get's me through no worries.

Ok so it's the one you are actively using it. Can't beat that sort of recommendation I guess!

Went with your charger and two 1300mAh cranestock LiPos, similar price to picking up three 800s so why not. Fingers crossed it all works out!

Thanks again, I'll report back once everything shows up.

I picked up a smart lipo charger and a crane stock battery for my raider L, loads of room in that stock. It only really worked out about £5 more than the nickel barreries and with experience of using battery power tools on sites for years the benefits of lithium is massive, the main one being that cold weather wont discharge them quicker.

You wont regret buying 2.... always need a spare, if one dies or theres a problem, at least you can carry on!!

I'd always recommend switching batteries at lunch if you have two. Nothing catastrophic will happen you will keep the cells happy though and ensure they hold their charge.

Personally I like having 3 as it means one to switch after half a day and a spare in case one starts to act up. Possibly overkill but i'd rather pay another ~£15 once than risk missing some games due to battery issues.
