AK47frizzle
WD-40 An everyday household item maybe? I think so. Good to get rid of the squeaks out of a door hinge? Maybe it's only purpose. Maybe you can use it on your bike; clean those rusty axles you silly boy. Maybe you can use it on your firearms if you want some flammable petroleum on your gun which can be easily ignited. And what do those things have in common eh? Come on, it's not rocket science. They are not made of plastic or rubber. (unless you have a sh*tty plastic kiddies tricycle you salvaged from your sad and lonely childhood) So I had a conversation with my friend just the other day (don't ask which other day) on the amazing world of facebook. We talked about skirmishing sites and my sh*tty AK, then we talked about gun maintenance which was a bother. I said I use good silicon grease to clean my gun internals (gearbox etc.) and he said he used WD-40 to clean his hop up units. WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 WD-40 Then I thought in my head: "WHAT THE FUDGING HELL????!!! ARE YOU FOR ****ING REAL?" WD-40 IS NOT A ****ING LUBRICANT. WD-40 IS ONLY GOOD FOR DOOR HINGES AND NOTHING ELSE. (in my opinion) Then I replied to him, "God damn it man! It's not a ***ING LUBRICANT!" Then closely followed by, "WD-40 WILL ****ING DRY OUT OUT YOUR HOP UP AND CAUSE IT TO DEFECT, JUST BECAUSE IT MAY BE A LIQUID AT FIRST DOESN'T MEAN IT'S A LUBRICANT" I was pissed off just by that sentence he said and the monumentally amount of stupid people who think WD-40 is a lubricant. WD-40 is not a lubricant. WD-40 is a solvent. WD-40 is not as viscous as proper silicon grease. I've said this a BAJILLION times already to people who think WD-40 is a lubricant. IT IS NOT A LUBRICANT He used it on his SRC dragon m4 and TM glock 17. He even said he's been using WD-40 ever since he got the guns which were christmas presents.... from 2011 and the glock from further back. Fantastic bits of kit only to ruined by the oh so amazing WD-40. EVEN WIKIPEDIA CALLS IT A LUBRICANT (what dumb idiots of wiki) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WD-40 Some people I have met even define a liquid as a form of lubricant. I can tell you that a liquid =/= lubricant. And by that definition, molten lava can be used as a lubricant for when you and your wife have some fun. Yeah, have fun with that, it may provide the tiniest bit of help I don't think your man parts would last much longer. Yeah, i've gone in a rant long enough and you may not have found this amusing but it's just a reminder to newbies and other people that WD-40 IS NOT A ****ING LUBRICANT
Mike636
It's by definition a water displacer and its good for a billions things but your right defiantly not lube!
Tariq
But really you don't want grease or silicon on your hop rubber... You don't want it bone dry but you also don't want it to swell up and become "wet" with silicon.
Spawnah
I can see you're very passionate about this. I've always known not to use WD-40 as gun lube but never knew why, now I do. Cheers.
Stormhall
I read the wiki page and it contradicts itself as it says at the top that WD-40 is a lubricant yet it says further down that it's 51% stoddard solvent (and the other bits are petroleum and some other crap). Wow!

Supporters Ian_Gere Posted August 15, 2013 Supporters Share Posted August 15, 2013 My Girlfriend Disagrees. Well, volatile oils like those in petroleum readily cross through mucous membranes, and I can tell you from the learning curve inherent in discovering the knack of syphoning petrol that you do not have to swallow any to end up feeling pretty sick from it in your system. A vag is one big mucous membrane...

Zyras
My general rule of thumb : If it says flammable, dont use it on rubber or plastic.
Supporters Lozart Posted August 16, 2013 Supporters Share Posted August 16, 2013 WD-40 is primarily a water displacer but - and this is a big but - BUT (sorry - couldn't help myself) it IS also a lubricant. Just because it's not the right lubricant for airsoft guns does not make it any less so.

One day I'll think of a way to inflict my rage upon you in an effective, semi only Glock manner. Then one other day, I'll actually do it. And you'll rue the day you started all this "My Glock has auto, your's doesn't hurhurhur" bullshit. Mark my words.
AirsoftTed
Ed, become an airsoft gas Tycoon. Absorb all of the other companies, then raise the prices through the roof. He'll have no choice but to buy gas from you, and he'll pay through the teeth for it. Muahahahahahha.
Pinbacker
WD-40 is primarily a water displacer but - and this is a big but - BUT (sorry - couldn't help myself) it IS also a lubricant. Just because it's not the right lubricant for airsoft guns does not make it any less so. beat me to it it is a lubricant for certain things, but shouldnt be used for things that need sustained lubing because it eats away at pretty much everything eventually. There was an aircraft engineer who done a study on the over use of WD40 on planes, corroded parts galore.
