  1. Right then - leading on from my DD rail fitting thread debacle, I have two questions: Firstly - where do you measure the length of a floating rail? The one I have measures 7.5 inches along the top rail which makes sense as it was sold as a 7.5" DD style rail. Now the thing is - I know that if you have a standard M4 with original sight post and Delta Ring arrangement that a KAC style RIS handguard 7" long will fit. Which leads me on to the next question. Secondly - from exactly where to where on an M4 outer barrel is the length taken? Is it from the very end of the the prongs that go into the receiver to the tip of the 14mm thread or is it to the shoulder of the barrel (so excluding the threaded part). If I have a 7.5" floating RIS it makes sense to me that an outer barrel measuring 7.5" from base to shoulder should just have the threaded portion sticking out the front of the rail. With me so far? Good. I have seen a Madbull kit which purports to be a 4" rail that comes with a 9" barrel but the barrel only seems to stcik out by about an inch www.popularairsoft.com/news/daniel-defense-licensed-4-lite-rail-kit So does the picture in the article NOT show the barrel they say comes with the kit or am I measuring the whole thing wrong? The main reason I ask is that I want to get a new outer barrel to achieve the "Strike Back" look as below: and I don't want to end up buying yet another part that is slightly the wrong size. The barrel appears to have about 0.5" between the end of the rail and the back of the flash hider/suppressor in this pic. HAAAAAALLLPPPP!!!!
  2. Pair of knock of MBUS sights and a FDE knock off MOE grip.
  3. I need to take pics when I'm home tonight, but is anyone interested in a TM 1911 MEU with 3 mags (one TM + 2 unknown). Plus a Serpa if I can find it? Looking at around £120 for the lot.

Ad is up - take a look (guns for sale - gas). If you need any more pics, just ask.

  4. Considering going for the "Strike back" look - short barrel, lose the iron sights and fit a KAC QD suppressor up to the end of the rail. Any odea what length barrel I'd need to fit a standard flash hider and be able to get the KAC QD suppressor on? The choice seems to be Madbull Noveske in either 7.5" or 8.5", Dytac UXR 8" or Dytac SBR in 7.5". This is the kind of thing I mean:
  5. So after much faffing and grinding the barrel nut fits. YAY! But.... When I went to fit the front sight post back on, it won't go on far enough. Strange I thinks to myself. Out with the taper measure and yep, you guessed it - it's not a 7" rail. It's a 7.5" rail. Never buy stuff on ebay late at night. So - ditch the rail? Change the barrel? What say you all?
  6. Difficult to tell from an ebay listing and I'm not particularly clued up on APS as a brand but I would bet good money on it not matching up properly with your lower receiver.
  7. That's actually about right. Depends on who is delivering the brief and how many people think that they'd rather chat among themselves than just pay attention. As I've said before though (and will no doubt say again.....and again) The Mall briefing covers both site safety and basic game rules. The site does have some specific risks they have to cover (both for practical and insurance reasons) and it seems to attract a special breed of dickhead that means that rules have to be spelled out every single time. Believe me - the marshals get just as bored of having to spoon feed the fuckwits as you and I do of hearing it but there you have it. Yes they are very strict on things like BFG throwing but for good reason (I'm sure you've all seen the coma story by now). I'm sure that every site has nice short briefings until something happens that then has to be covered which makes it longer, it's just the way of the world. I'd love it if they could have some kind of "briefing waiver" for anyone that has played regularly for over 6 months or something but they don't. Such is life. They never have such small numbers of only regulars that they can ever really get away with saying "you all know what you're doing - don't be dicks" unless there's a private game of all site members. Equally while everyone likes to think that they've been playing airsoft or even specifically CQB long enough to know what not to do, if you haven't played at the Mall then you really should just pay attention. There is enormous capacity for that place to bite you in the arse if you're dick.
  8. Wonder how long it will be before Jay83 comes and complains about how long the one at the Malls is?
  9. All perfectly good engineering terms there I'll have you know.
  10. The thing to be aware of is that it's not just the receiver that needs to be compatible but all the ancillary parts as well. I bought a Dytac receiver to replace the plastic one on my TM M4A1. Firstly the TM charging handle extension (the bit that pulls back the bolt cover to allow access to the hop adjuster) doesn't fit the profile inside the Dytac receiver. Neither does the bolt cover plate. None of which comes with the Dytace receiver. The Dytac receiver doesn't have the little plastic guide rail inside that the cover plate runs in either. That can be donored from the TM but has to be cut off and then glued back in, in EXACTLY THE RIGHT PLACE. All the parts that come with the receiver should be used where possible. For example - the TM mag release worked and was better made than the Dytac one, but it was actually very slightly too long and didn't release reliably so had to be swapped out for the Dytac one. I had to buy a Dytac charging handle (from Hong Kong) to fit properly. Also thing like an Element delta ring won't fit, but a King Arms one will and so the list goes on. If you're going to change your receiver get one that comes with as many of the parts as you can unless you enjoy fettling little bits of cast monkey metal until they fit/break. I would suggest a Guarder kit but then you have to ask whether the rest of the gun is worth spending £150+ on just for having a floating rail.
  11. Had a 3x magnifier for my EOTech. It's in the bottom of my kit bag somewhere...
  12. See...I have two responses here. Firstly I don't buy cheap crap cutting discs off ebay, secondly twenty years of engineering has taught me to be more patient and less ham fisted. I got the toothy bit cut off last night only to discover that the original barrel nut from my Delta ring is in fact much deeper than the nut from the floating rail. So now I'll be cutting it down as well. Yay.
  13. Ah fuck it. TO THE DREMEL!!!! What's the worst that could happen, eh?
  14. So the Madbull die went over the threads but didn't really take much off. The barrel nut still refuses to go on. I'm assuming this is due to it being a cheap chinese knock off... Anyone got a Madbull DD barrel nut they want to part company with?
  15. I know this is potentially the wrong question to ask....but have you considered that it may be you? There's plenty of folk out there with guns that have been absolutely fine out of the box (myself included). Maybe you've just been spectacularly unlucky?
  16. Quiet in here today. I might have to do some work.

I know the feeling Lozart. Think everything dies around the xmas season. Gets in the way of my Airsofting too

  17. Quick pic of my condor belt with Safariland style drop leg fitted. I use a Viper duty belt in it (the only bit of Viper kit I still use in fact). Seriously considering getting a yoke and running a belt rig in the warmer months.
  18. Blimey, it's like the 90's all over again! Don't be intimidated by the prevalence of either metal or beardy weirdy folky types! You post whatever you like. I'm actually listening to Disney tunes and I don't care who knows it.
  19. The condor battle belt is a similar design to the hsgi one (cutouts for droplegs, use your own belt etc) but they're much cheaper. I have one and it's pretty well made.
  20. Good points all but if someone wants to spend £400, chances are a d-boys m4 isn't going to do it.
