  1. My typical test is to chrono the gun and pray the factory that produced it stuck to some sort of standards and it meets the rating I've been spoiled by working on a lot of ACM so I've become cynical with airsoft-I always expect something to be out of spec and have shit tolerances. I'm still new to the AEG tech scene- VSRs are my main specialty.
  2. Oh no,I don't rely on that for information. I was just putting it out that some people can estimate spring ratings. It's kind of a mish mash really, measuring might not work sometimessince most springs that come with chinese guns are very, very short but very stiff, about an m130 rating but no where near the length of an aftermarket m130. There's just so much shit to tell apart spring strengths is just best to estimate by chrono'ing the gun.
  3. It's mainly by people who are used to the feel and look of various spring strengths. It's still all estimation work. I can only think of a few internet famous people who might be able to do it semi accurately. Like I said, all estimation so just see how fast the gun shoots.
  4. It really depends. Some retailers & wholesalers, even manufacturers swap out springs to be legal or more site friendly in various countries. It's best to use google for a general idea but It's not knowing if the spring was changed for export markets. To find out-Chronograph the velocity of the gun in m/s. Most springs are rated by how much velocity in m/s should be put out assuming good air seal. so 120 m/s (400FPS) give or take should mean an m120 spring. Allow a decent power tolerance since some guns may come with poor air seal but most higher end guns come with good O rings and air seal parts. Some people have the skill to distinguish spring strengths by looking at the coils and from the general feel. It's all from experience with gun tech and has no real method, just a person's wits. It's all estimation though and not very scientific and accurate. A better method i think is just seeing how fast the gun shoots.
  5. Action Army VSR 10 bearing spring guide - Got it off a guy I know who plays at the local. Agreed on 12 euro which is half the price he paid for it shipped from ehobby. Also yesterday at school I threw my cylinder head on a lathe and made a taper for better air flow. Also removed the air brake on the piston to firther improve air flow quality sacrificing some quietness but it's hardly noticeable with the big chunker of a sorbo pad on the cylinder head. Regreased the cylinder internals, polished the exterior of the cylinder. All of this, along with the new spring guide gives me a very nice 315 FPS +/- 3 . .30s hitting at 1.13J on average, but I'm, not certain as I don't really trust the chrono. The gun can be operated with just my ring finger. Some very light plastic on metal grinding can be heard from the cylinder guide rings but cannot be 'felt' probably just from wear. Will try get a hold of some delrin pipe and make some new ones at school.
  6. The bolt is made out of Zinc. This was a decision made to have greater recoil than durability instead of going for a lightweight aluminium bolt. FFS marui. Hopefully it's made well and does not shatter in a million pieces under green gas use. The aftermarket will hopefully take care of that(Laylax) Also, here's a translation of the Hyperdouraku article by reddit user Kuroageha. http://imgur.com/a/IKmij
  7. TM M4 uses a new gas system-why would they bother adapting the system to use another manufacturer's magazines? Makes no sense. And crying proprietary is stupid because it's a new gas system. Not a lot of companies make aftermarket mags for TM GBBs since the TM ones are often pretty good so I would not expect too many, maybe prowin or some company like that churn out some. Spare parts on the other hand will hopefully be plentiful.TM GBB internals are generally pretty decent (Aside from parts like the nozzle cup and nozzles themselves) so I'm hoping the GBB m4 is not a pile of pot metal internal crap like some WE models and too many WA type guns.
  8. http://ameyokoten.first-jp.com/e548027.html http://www.hyperdouraku.com/event/hobbyshow1405/index.html Aluminium(or Zamak) machined body it seems. Uses a new gas system. Comes with a Cerokete coating. Looks like TM is going all out on this one.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olCr4zjAm6k&feature=youtu.be&t=1m47s Release date & price-TBA Also some new things- HK417 in the works! http://img01.militaryblog.jp/usr/f/i/r/firstameyoko/IMG_8292.jpg M860 breacher http://www.hyperdouraku.com/event/hobbyshow1405/images/05.jpg Two tone AEP line http://img01.militaryblog.jp/usr/f/i/r/firstameyoko/IMG_5059.jpg Hicapa AEP! http://img01.militaryblog.jp/usr/f/i/r/firstameyoko/IMG_5059.jpg (top right corner) Shell holder http://www.hyperdouraku.com/event/hobbyshow1405/images/21.jpg Pretty good improvement from last year's shizouka announcements. GBB M4- hoping the new system is good and not a pile of pot metal crap. TM are pretty good when it comes to GBB system design so I have high hopes for this. Expect a high price from all the fancy stuff like CNC work and cerokete coating(And of course the TM brand name) M870 breacher,as expected. hopefully the new cylindrical gas tank will require less long term upkeep that the current one. A hicapa AEP is a nice addition, adds some variety since AEPs are slowly gaining popularity it seems. 417 recoil shock- Can we expect a new gearbox design? The larger buffer tube might allow a beefier recoil mech too. Might not be popular as a DMR platform since TM recoils are over engineered in some ways so modding is hard- but the battle rifle style would be very cool.
  9. Don't span the sig with gifs plox. Makes the eyes hurt and is murder on some mobile devices like the Nokia N900 i'm using nough. Spend the money on a rifle first. You will rarely use a pistol unless you have a weapon like a sniper rifle or you are in CQB. That extra 100 can get some very nice guns. Most pistols what you want is reliability and gas efficiency. Most GBBs don't shoot over 300FPS mark unless they are NBB or Co2,hell,a lot of co2 KJW I've seen only fire around 320 too. Marui GBBs,some KWA models and KJW co2 GBBs are nice but don't waste money on a pistol before you get the rifle. See how much you use the rifle and in game and then think where a pistol would work for you.
  10. Some folk metal to liven up the mainstream sh*t in here (Joking of course,I hardly give a toss about music tastes) Eluveitie:Inis Mona Eluveitie:Brictom And some J-Rock if you will, you know, keep up the weaboo spirit The pillows: little busters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsnGFCR8TRs
  11. Levelcap sort of bother me since his lack of knowledge on gun tech is just regurgitating all the crap that was dying down on to the younger player generation, like longer barrel=Longer range and accuracy but saying nothing about cylinder volume to barrel length and all that stuff which is very important in a gun. I can accept Just not knowing how airsoft tech works and 'just playing' but spreading lies & false facts about airsoft tech and with that especially of a large audience just rubs me the wrong way. That, and levelcap has no real concept of value for the stuff he's given(Then again I do hold a lot of higher end guns to a very low value due to manufacturing standards not exisintg and some stuff being overpriced, but that's another story. I know polarstar Fusion engines are common in the USA but treating it like it's 'um pretty cool' or nothing really unique I don't also like. If I want informative airsoft videos I search for a producer who knows their stuff- If I want gameplay videos and just general voiceover then I'll look at things like levelcap. I do notice airsoft is blowing up,especially about younger guys, around 12-13. The town I live in is where a fairly popular retailer is located so you can expect the airsoft playing minority to be a bit larger. I do hear lots of cringey tidbits of airsoft discussion, lots of stuff about popular youtubers and vidya gaems, on the bus to school from time to time but I generally keep my mouth shut and leave all my silly babble to vent on game days. It's good that people are getting in and expanding the community but in my area it's all divided to a site catering to U18s and a more 'core' site so the overall playerbase feels small even though it is not.
  12. I worked on one quite recently actually. Lots of techno-babble ahead so I will try keep it simple. The Stock is atrocious quality. The plastic used feels very brittle and weak, like the shitty acrylic we use at school. It does not feels very secure, the latch mechanism was made out of pot metal & plastic so it may be fragile. It did have a concerning amount of wobble. Otherwise I did not detect any other major external issues aside from the stock,it felt rather solid, however the upper receiver is made out of a nasty feeling pot metal that's fairly heavy. Internals wise- Barrel and hop up unit are fails. Stock, the hop up unit was cast improperly so the gun had piss poor performance. Hop up units are fairly cheap and can be replaced. Wiring quality on the gearbox was poor as well. Gear set is a standard set of ACM full sintered gears, they are strong enough to last long on an m120 or m130 spring, but not amazing quality gears. Fairly noisy. The bushings were complete fails that grenaded themselves after minor usage. Piston was okay, not amazing but usable. Air seal parts are poor quality but usable with some new O rings. The one saving grace was the motor, the gun came with a Chaoli 22TPA torque monster motor which worked beautifully with the SHS high speed gear set i installed. The gun overall has some potential to be upgraded and work well but overall poor quality leaves a lot to be desired. It seems nobody can crack out a decent cheap SCAR. I'd go for an ICS sportline gun. Much better internally. G&G Combat machines are fairly good too.
  13. If a gun was truly high end it would come with heavy gauge wiring,Deans & some sort of basic mosfet to allow you to use non shit discharge lipos. Gearbox wise as long as AOE is corrected than that's even better. Lonex already do AOE correction OOTB and G&P come with deans. Higher tier lonex also comes with solver plated ultra low resistance wiring throughout and some JGs I;ve seen recently came with very thick wiring. So manufacturers are getting close to becoming proper high end but It's just not really there. It;s funny how often lower end guns tend to come with things that higher end guns don;t have. We often pay more for the brand name and good externals. Sadly airsoft manufacturing does not have any set standard, hell, most companies have trouble keeping tolerances proper between batches so that shows the sad little state our industry is in. Hence, lots of DIY stuff about to get the gun coming with stuff it should have in the first place.
  14. The G&G mosfets really do not like high discharge lipos as well. Keep it at 20c 25,absolute max. At a recent game one guy's top tech mosfets burned out from use on a 35c 9.9v Life. Should give an idea of the quality we are dealing with here. I'd never use an 11.1v lipo without some internal tuning TBH. With the exception of Lonex, most guns do not come with the angle of piston engagement corrected. With the high rof gained from an 11.1,the piston will not last a very long time. Bear in mind these are also V2 gearboxes which just love to crack from High stress,so sorbothane padding is also necessary. A good mosfet is crucial for a good build too, unfortunately G&Gs pre-installed mosfets seem to suck balls, aside from preserving contacts long term if you sue low discharge batteries. The whole point of a mosfet is to allow you to use high power batteries reliably for a long time and to increase the efficiancy of the guns electrical system.
  15. I wouldn't give up on it so soon. Check out some yank forums where a lot of Polarstar techies hide. Some guys like 'SilentObvervant' from reddit are really knowledgeable,as is Bingo from Bingo airsoft works. AirsoftMechanics is also a great place to discuss those kinds of issues. There could be a myriad of issues and might be easy to fix. Could be nozzle alignment issues or it could be that the Fusion engine itself is not releasing the same amount of air all the time due to an issue with the poppet valve or something.
  16. Nice work-But the bright green sort of looks ugly in comaparison to the rest of the thing. Maybe some Krylon OD to darken it? Otherwise looks really cool and well made.
  17. They are both the same ones. Force Core = S&T. AY is S&T's OEM. All the 'ACM' VSS and VALs are made by S&T/AY.
  18. Your link just goes to the assault rifle Category. It only shows the LCT AS VAL,which isn't exactly cheap. LCT AS VAL,although new has been praised for it's build quality, durabilty and materials. Full steel construction. CNC Receiver, stamped steel everything and the welding work is fantastic. LCT are very good at making body kits with good durability and materials. LCT used to be the OEM for Inokatsu. The AS VAL according to some people is probably the best thing they have released for some time. I'd say that's true, barring that full steel m60 they make The Gearbox is LCT's new 'pre upgraded' shite. The Piston is no longer the craptastic clear one and now a decent Glass fiber nylon one. It has a steel rack which is good for high speed builds, however it can chew up the gears if something goes wrong, unless LCT made the steel on the piston rack weaker than the steel on the gears.. Unfortunately they chose to go with 9mm bearings. The trouble with 9mms is that the bearing size is larger but the balls inside are not so you get no performance or durability increase over 8mms. 9mm bearings are more prone to failure than 8mm ones too. Gears are standard fare, partly machined it seems. LCT gears are generally pretty durable. Metal piston head with bearings is unnecessary IMO but It's in a V3 gearbox so no durability issues. Air seal parts are often good quality. The Gearbox shell is very, very well cast. Google 'LCT V3 gearbox' and look how pretty it is. It looks better than a lot of aftermarket stuff. Hop up and barrel are 'meh' from my experiences with LCT stuff. Barrel is 6.02 and brass IIRC. External wise it's a clone of the Russian made NPO VAL so it shares the same issues-top cover is too large and the ejection cover/bolt is too small, stock is also smaller than the RS but again, inherited from the NPO. Otherwise it's one of the better proportioned ones out there. Other manufacturers really messed up the handguard on their VSS/VAL models but LCT got it right. If you are talking about the Force/Core one they have it's a rebrand of the S&T/AY VAL. It's malformed very badly and proportions are very bad. gearbox is nothing amazing compared to other ACM but can be good with some tuning. Most of it's made out of zamak and some steel parts. It works well however. It does not have some issues with hop like KA and does not have some odd design choices like G&G.
  19. I think wombat machines are over rated. Decent for the price but Internals have seriously underwhelmed me,then again I have been spoiled by ICS and some Top quality ACM recently. G&G do make some very good hop up units however ICS sportlines have some of the best internals I've seen in a cheap gun. Steel bushings, strong gears which appear to be partly machined instead of fully sintered*,strong piston, very good air seal parts and hop up,although not as good as G&G is perfectly usable. Motor isn't amazing but neither is G&Gs. It's all the same internals as the proline except the motor so it;s good quality stuff. I'd only replace the motor if I was upgrading. And maybe modify it to take a Marui hop up if I'm that hungry for performance. *Newer ICS guns are set to come out with new gearboxes including Metal injection molded gears which are far stronger than traditional powered metallurgy ones so it may carry over to sportlines in the future
  20. Heard some reports from a few friends of mine who run top tech gen 3s,and from some other players who've used them.Apparently G&G MOSFETs should not be used with any lipo over 25c of discharge, they'll blow otherwise. Really does not like 11.1vs as well. Now,20-25c isn't that much. That's only half the discharge rate needed to spin your motor up to full speed instantly. Isn't the whole point of the mosfet to allow you to use higher discharge batteries? Call me skeptical, but I think these mosfets just MIGHT be complete shit
  21. That's frickin boss man. I don;' like the look of M4s but the SR25 & other 7.62 versions just look 'right' for me. The L129A1 especially looks great, and that 7.62 Pmag.. Feels good man. You rarely see polarstars or HPA guns in the UK, or Europe for that matter. That Instant trigger response Should feel very nice. How are you finding carrying a HPA bottle? I'ill be very interested in some skirmish gameplay in the near future I hope. There's no beating HPA really in consistency . I heard you can fill the HPA air tank with a PCP air pump with an adapter of some sort, should save some money on going to the scuba/paintball shop for a fill.
  22. Range Revisited really gives us a good view of how our vision fucks with us and makes thing seem close when they are far away. Great video Ed,gives a nice insight into the distances we shoot at and how those kill that felt 'close' were actually far away. Really enjoyable too. Need to actually subscribe with that google account I never use!
  23. Xfire - First off, their English is god awful. It's painful to read but understandable, thankfully. Their ordering system is a bit odd and confusing at first but It's idiot proof. Website design is straight from the 90s so It's a bit annoying to use,but I've gotten used to it now. I've ordered from them several times and gotten a quick response and no issues came about. They ship their orders via EMS which is very quick and pretty reasonable price wise. Prices are the best for PDi stuff. Good service overall and very good pricing. AirsoftEire - It's my Local so I might be a bit biased. However I,along with countless other guys I've met have yet to have a bad experience from them. Excellent tech service, very good selection of guns too. In particular They stock most of their TM pistols and guns direct from Japan so they have the lowest price in Ireland from what I've seen and the best selection. Customer service is excellent, shipping is cheap in the Republic with some new DPD service they have. The downside I can only find is some guns are a bit overpriced, however you find that a lot across Ireland due to high VAT and strict customs. Have not ordered from any dodgy places so no bad ones for me.
