Which retailers in the UK accept Just-Cos Cosplayer Insurance?
Galvatron replied to superwok's topic in General Discussion
Bingo! A lot of people today seem to be divorced from a self-preservation instinct or reality. Even when I was a teenager playing airsoft, I understood the sheer stupidity of open carry of realistic looking weapons because of how quickly and tragically it can escalate. Just to think the OP struggled to understand why so many in this thread voiced strong opinions about Just-Cos' legitimacy. That some cosplayers lack self-awareness of their own and the public's safety with open carry vindicates those opinions. -

I wonder if he was the same smooth brain I saw at Birmingham ComicCon, also in riot gear and open carrying an MP7 in clear view of the public. 🙄 -
Thanks, Dan. I'm planning another visit soon as I went to the new premises for a collection before they did the soft opening. I understand they'll be doing a cerakote service in the customisations they offer.

Welcome back! Is there a maximum time between your first and third games when applying for UKARA? Genuine query, I'm not wording a statement of fact as a question.

It is an offence provided that you don't have a defence to do so, which is explicitly attested to on that same link. -

How to attract new players to Airsoft?
Galvatron replied to GenuineGerman's topic in General Discussion
I don't think the player base needs to expand but rather attitudes toward it be more open-minded and accepting that it's just another hobby/pastime/recreation that its players are very passionate and enthusiastic about and one that helps their wellbeing in keeping them active. Going to the gym is good for people's wellbeing also but when you hear about steroid and other PED use or the steroid user (plus gym "influencers") behaving in disagreeable way, exercising at the gym isn't villified and denounced because of one or a few bad apples the way airsoft in the UK would be, nor would exercising at the gym fall under the same scrutiny. I couldn't agree more about the concern that becoming too big will attract mouth breathers. Look at F1. A few years back, it was popular but in only so many people's conversations. Thanks to Drive to Survive and F1's commercial rights holders pushing it to be more mainstream, it's much bigger with a new breed of fans who have taken the lustre off the sport because of their tribal behaviour bringing the handbags out at dawn. I'd rather not have a celebrity or "influencer" push airsoft because it would be another flavour of the month with new players dicking about, harming the reputation of regulars who take safe, honest and responsible play seriously. I rest my case. I don't consider Bieber as much of a prick now but he's not exactly a shining endorsement for airsoft. Beckham is an entitled self-loving brat who got salty about being ineligible for a knighthood because of his tax dodging then he made me even less inclined to consider visiting Qatar when he promoted it for the last World Cup. -

How do you qualify the expense being absurd? The sites aren't charities. Their overheads of BBs, maintenance for the rental guns, their eventual replenishment and the labour costs of inspecting and stocktaking have to be taken into consideration along with a profit margin. It's really easy to belittle operating costs when you deviate from "try(ing) to remain neutral" and show an agenda against the current system. Let's not push a false narrative that 2 months of having a UKARA defence is waiting to be approved is the norm. I had a provisional UKARA number the day I became a member of the site I played at to apply for becoming registered with UKARA BUT my defence didn't become active until a couple of days after I was signed off after playing my third game in just over 2 months and the site, after which the owner sent off an email to UKARA confirming I had satisfied the requirements. That defence was active for 12 months from the day I received by email from UKARA, not from when I played my first game. The only expense I have to incur to renew my UKARA registration is to continue my membership at the site for another year - that is much less expensive than monthly gym memberships, a few packs of cigarettes or a week's worth of overpriced custom Starbucks coffees. Imparting misinformation as fact is less than conducive to discourse in good faith, especially when you "try to remain neutral". -
If I could offer a suggestion, you may be better off breaking this down to get the most out of it. The WE M4 Katana shouldn't be hard to shift and you may get the most value out of it, especially if you bundle it with a battery, another mag and a bottle of BBs. The ICS M4s should sell but being effectively two-tone, they won't hold as high a resale % as the WE M4. The Evolution M4 is also going to fetch less being two-tone though if the white marks are only cosmetic, you should still be able to move it on. The project gun ought to be sold as boneyard as by your honest admission, it needs work to get to working order. The rest of the parts could be bundled together though some could be bundled with the guns as a sweetener such as the mags and the sling. As a whole bundle, I won't be surprised if people lowball with their offers, especially as postage will be expensive for the whole lot.

A BIT optimistic? Two-tone for most of it says all you need.

SA B02 Specna Arms Direct Import

I'm not a lawyer but surely as a stockist, open or closed, you are required to downgrade any hot airsoft guns prior to resale? Swapping out the current spring (easy enough being quick-change) for an M90 or M95 should put this comfortably within the 1.13J site-permissible limit, not to mention actually make it legal for sale in the UK. You could land yourself and a buyer in serious trouble selling it as is. -
My theory is the current weather conditions. I've heard a few people with Vorsk 1911 and Hi-Capas over the past few months say their performance in the cold is shockingly bad even with red gas.

£90 even split for each of the for slightly scuffed pistols when you can get them at retail from £105-£130 unscuffed with some peace of mind. Optimistic.

CYMA blue edition MP5 fully upgraded + case + glock + Accs
Galvatron commented on Modalorian's advert in Electric Rifles
As a 14 hour newb looking for £700+, you could do a bit more to ease any suspicions people may have about whether this is legitimate or not. A sheet of paper with your username and the current date would be the first step. More photos wouldn't hurt either, especially as the a large part of the image is out of focus where you really don't want it to be. Is the "WE Glock" a 17, 18 or another variant? -
Is he paying VAT on that? "There's a WE Glock in the sale but I couldn't be arsed to point out which model but Glocks are all the same right? They still sling plastic balls."
-
Unless you're willing to sit on this whole bundle for months if not years for a sale, you're definitely dreaming if you think someone newly UKARA-registered will want to drop £3,500 on everything in this listing. What are the chances that anyone would want even 80% of everything listed without wanting to resell the remainder? Surely breaking this listing down into smaller gun + case/bag + mag pouch + battery, eye/facepro, tactical, grenade and accessory bundles will see it sell more quickly? I get the seller has sunk a massive cost into something he hasn't got much time on the field for but bloody hell, I don't think dropping the inflexible atttiude and the expectation of timewasters would hurt.
-
After the OP first downgrades the spring then does a chrono re-test to confirm the gun is shooting within site limits.
-
Two-tone being sold at more than 80% of retail. Is this so highly sought after, even in two-tone, that its resale value percentage is above that of your typical RIF?

Welcome onboard!

I'd honestly say a bloody nose from the ridicule and strong responses is a small price to pay compared to setting up a business without a scooby of running one or of airsoft and running it into the ground with you eating extra value baked beans for the next 6 years. You really should heed the advice to learn to walk before you can run. Getting airsoft guns isn't that difficult so when you're setting up a business using them, they should be much lower on your list of worries. Without checking your particulars are in order first as Dan R said, it's utterly pointless in thinking of what guns to buy to rent out for a business. As others have said, you really should get out there and find if airsoft is for you or not. You've asked for experienced players' advice and you've been given it. Safety risks aside of playing in your house or garden, that isn't going to prepare you for playing at a site any more than Doom, GoldenEye 007 or Half Life prepared me for when I first played airsoft many years ago. Like EDcase pointed out, this hobby has a lot of naysayers and opponents. The UKARA defence to buy RIFs is a compromise the government made to allow realistic play in the hobby since it is good exercise and dare I say it, a good boost to a lot of people's wellbeing. The harshness of many of the responses you've received is out of them caring more for protecting the hobby than protecting your feelings. Hell, a new site I played had some objections from local residents complaining about potential noise from the site with imitation firearms playing, showing their complete ignorance that it's most unlikely that they'd hear much from 5 miles away. Someone with little appreciation for safety and possibly legal implications of playing with airsoft guns in their house or garden doesn't sound like someone fit to operate a site safely. I don't think Rogerborg could have put it better. Getting out on and gaining practical experience with airsoft is invaluable but setting up your own business is something you should put on the back burner for years until you can sort things out operationally first.
-
Yikes. I would usually say it's sad to hear of a site closing down but when you charge an uncompetitive rate for just an hour's play and you exclude your biggest airsoft player base i.e. those with their own kit, you're lining yourself up for failure. If (non-volunteers) people charged with looking after the players' safety and upholding the reputation of airsoft aren't being paid their due, you don't deserve to be in the business.
-
What you paid has limited bearing on what it's worth now. The typical resell value for a RIF is up to 70% of current retail value. Two-tone lowers that percentage further because demand for two-tone is lower than realistic colours. https://bbguns4less.co.uk/products/cyma-cm515-m4-keymod-handguard-in-black.html As one can buy the Cyma CM.515 for under a ton brand new, you may need to reset your expectations accordingly as offers will likely come in well below £90.
