That M16 is a dream, I have to build one 😱 Do you happen to have a parts list floating about? Excellent job

Thanks! The essentials for the M16 are:

G&P 20" steel WA system outer barrel, with unknown brand WA-MWS adapter

G&P front end furniture (M203 heatshield, M5 RAS, I have a standard A2 handguard too but not sure who that's from)

I believe this is a DNA barrel nut, it's definitely not the normal TM one. The person I bought the nut from among other things mentioned that the 203 won't work with the standard barrel nut, it seems like that screw gets in the way

MWC Stock kit. These are built to MWS spec and have large spacers inside, so you can use a carbine buffer inside rather than having to switch out to a rifle length buffer. No weight difference, just saves a bit of faff when finding parts

The 203 is believed to be a king arms, I have a G&P as well and consider the king arms superior because the tube rails have a detent at the end of travel so it holds open as long as you want it

The ACOG is holy warrior, I'm not sold on it currently compared to the G&P repro I used to have but I also don't have enough time with it to say for certain.

I don't believe the UID is correct for an A4 of this era, but this receiver gets passed around a lot of builds and it links to a google doc with info such as current chrono/npas setting, what the hop is set for, whether it's had any recent issues to keep an eye out for etc

I try to avoid Angry Gun parts like the plague as I have heard there are... issues :D. I did an m16a4 build with G&P AEG parts, but recently swapped out for MK12 Mod 1 parts (posted it a bit further up) and it has firmly cemented its spot as my go-to non-bolt action rifle. I absolutely love the aesthetic of it!

I'm a fan of the MK12 but I have a VFC M110 for my quad rail DMR fix, I still want a mod 0 though at some point XD

Angry gun are not that bad but you really have to temper your expectations, if it's something with threads or any precise machining like a bolt then you have to understand they don't have a great sucess rate. Stick to simple things like buffers though and they're fine, and I've seen angry gun bolts that lasted almost a whole day before as well. It was broken by lunchtime but the fact it actually fit in the gun, didn't break itself apart when testing at home, got through chrono and then played a couple hours of games is quite impressive for angry gun.

Fwiw I've heard that their receiver/front end kits can be workable too if you're alright with a dremel, but I wouldn't personally chance it

    Open dust covers 🤢

Seriously though, love them. Especially the longboi! Not enough people run long MWS builds

Thanks! They used to be unicorns but there was actually a point a year or two ago that it was possible to build one, I'm very lucky to be benefitting from that :)

(Edit: unless you use angry gun, but everyone should know how that will go :P )

I'm thinking of doing a C7 or MK12 Mod 0 build at some point in future but it'll be a while before parts availability and budget lines up

  3. aliexpress can be a great resource and it can often be worth taking a chance on these things, but if there are no decent reviews with text and pictures then be prepared to be surprised at how badly something can be made. You'll see missing screws, miscast screws (allen heads with the heads filled in can be pretty common), parts not lining up and dodgy anodizing. This is especially common with any kind of mounts in particular because they'll try to do an rmr footprint without having an rmr or a picatinny attachment without testing on a rail.

It can be a good experience, just bear in mind that it's a bit of a gamble :)

  4. That's an unusual issue, and tricky because anything with enough protection will build heat, and then you have sweat issues which may also cause aggravation.

Usually I'd recommend delta mike, but for extra cheek and nose protection I would instead recommend this:

    https://www.patrolbase.co.uk/nuprol-mask-6-tactical-half-face-mask

By default it will come with foam in the cheek lining, but you can make a slit in the bottom and pull these inserts out as they will not contribute much other than heat

This will also cover your nose, and the material in contact with your face is normal fabric rather than the metal mesh, which should stand away from your face a little

For the forehead I would think about hats or helmet, there are enough options there that will work, it's just a case of keeping the heat down

  5. Calling your opponents' hits. I play in woodland where hiding behind a bush can be very effective cover, but the loudest mouths are always powered by the smallest brains and there's always some numbskull that wants to cry cheater at the top of his lungs because he's seeing his bb's bounce off the leaves in front of me and thinks he's chris kyle. I'm sitting there behind my bush wearing nothing but trousers and a t shirt, how would I survive not calling it if I was getting hit?

  6. Cheers for the clarification, when you said clone I assumed you meant made in a different factory as a 'clone' of the original rather than a qc drop.

I've just read up on the sig warranty and it's better than I was expected, will have to consider them in future

Today I learned the retailers don’t seem to be particularly bothered about UKARA, seemed to be that just showing that I’ve been/booked to go Airsofting is fine for them.

Caught me a bit off-guard as I hadn’t planned to buy anything so was only going for a look as I had a spare 20 mins. Did have a good chat with the guy running the place though and now have more of an idea regarding what to buy when I’m getting my first rifle.

I've had the same, when talking face to face they were happy to sell without ukara as long as they were satisfied that I was actually using it for airsoft
