I'm much the same, I've been through the 'trying to replicate actual military personel' thing carrying a whole heap of extra weight and had a great time while doing so... but as I've got older the less I'm carrying on me the better. Going back to basics, so to speak, while having enough playing experience to know what I do and don't want to be lugging around all day has definitely made me enjoy the game more. Not to say there is a right way to do it, but that's the right way for me.

I think it's a problem born by folks feeling they can't turn up looking like they're new to the hobby (there is certainly a weird stigma around rentals), and feel it's much better to show up 'all gear, no idea'. The cost can ramp up so quickly, especially if you start to go outside of the things you actually need. I think we're all aware that the return on our investments won't tend to be great, two tone only exaggerates that further. It's an easy to hobby to get carried away with and end up some real financial problems from if you're not careful, listings like that one are a pretty painful reminder.

If Mr Horus happens to read this, I suspect you'd be lucky to get half of what you paid for everything back... but your best bet of being able to clear the lot would be individual listings. At the very least separating out the RIF and the gear.

Because in the real world a longer barrel means more velocity, more range and more accuracy.

Airsoft sniper rifles try to mimic the exterior look of said real rifles, but we have completely different mechanical principles to work with.

Range and consistency are given by a good hop up and a clean, straight barrel, along with the least amount of leaks in the whole system.

Depends entirely what you’re attaching it to, but there are a few different adapters you can pick up that just screw onto the back. Molle, belt clip & paddle.

It’s just ‘manually’ performing the first action of the double action trigger. Quiets the first click of the trigger, but I believe it tends to lower the FPS of the shot a bit (no idea why, it’s anecdotal evidence). Outside of that it doesn’t have any negative impact, I know a fair few that do the same when close to the person they’re shooting at just to make it as quiet as they can.

Assuming you’re doing the ‘usual’ upgrades internally the body they’re going on is largely person preference, I don’t know exactly which brand is which but some of the ‘budget’ ones feel like they’re made out of the same plastic as the trays in an advent calendar. But they offer a really good cost effective platform, so that just boils down to your own budget/personal preferences on external quality.

I'll go ahead and assume it was the DTD holster, they're great when running a decent length suppressor so you can actually draw the damned thing. However, I (alongside others) found it was impairing my mobility at times, specifically when taking a knee with the suppressor attached.

I tend to keep mine in a generic universal holster that I've cable tied to my chest rig, and run it with one of these to amend the issue with drawing it/the suppressor getting in the way.

I've modded the trigger on one of mine to make it a bit less clunky, it's just generally a very awkward trigger to consistently fire off quick shots with... moreso when compared to how snappy so many other (GBB) pistols are. But yeah, the trigger is preeeeeeeetty nasty. Just the nature of the beast with how the system works.

Learn your rifle of choice inside and outside, and take note of what it is and isn't capable of. Over expectations lead to frustration, frustration lead to not enjoying it. As a sidenote, don't force yourself to play that way if you're not enjoying it on the day, there is no 'shame' in swapping over to an AEG/GBB/HPA RIF if you're not feeling it.

Best advice I can give when it comes to load bearing is work out how you find yourself playing. I use a chest rig because I don't spend much time prone, if you're prone a lot a chest rig can get uncomfortable... in which case a 'battle belt'/yoke or smersh setup is likely a much better fit. Just use whatever works for carrying what you want to carry and is comfortable, there is no 'right' answer.

Ghillie/leaf suits are great fun if you want to put the time into them, but they can be a real leech on your time and very much an optional extra. If you want a bit more concealment it's worth taking a look at your surroundings when you're playing, and then using that information to look at camo patterns. There are a lot of fancy ones out there these days, but flecktarn and DPM are great choices in most UK woodland (they shouldn't break the bank either). As another optional, I'd struggle to cope without some form of kneepads.

Make sure you have a good, reliable sidearm. When you're dealing with MED (minimum engagement distances) due to the extra power you're kicking out of your rifle you'll need to make sure you've got something to cover the space when folks are too close.

Lastly, but most importantly, make sure you're having fun.

I can't for the life of me remember the brand because this was between 10 and 15 years ago, but on an impulse I picked up a (what was then) fancy springer Dragunov from the old ASCUK forums (is that a swear word in these parts?). Looked lovely but felt ropey and performed awfully, capped off by the hop rubber tearing halfway through my first game using it. Promptly replaced the hop rubber and sold it on.

Had an amazing time at Dagger Woods on Saturday, one of my favourite days airsofting in a long ol’ time.

Gave the ghillie bits their first proper run out, can definitely see it being more effective once I’m more familiar with the sites I use it at. Fortunately a chap grabbed a photo so I can see where needs some work, namely the boots... and the Mk23 will be making it’s way back onto the chest rig.

(Would loved to have seen how it looked front on, but this photo is useful to see for improvements to make nevertheless)

Had some lovely ambushes and some great long range shots. Everything performed up to or past expectations and the staff and players were fantastic. Such a welcoming atmosphere from the moment I arrived at the site, as someone that suffers with a lot of social anxiety I can’t understate how much this set the day up to be a good one. Superb sportsmanship from start to finish, I don’t think I have anything negative to say at all.

I guess the point I was trying to make and having read my post back managed to entirely miss, was my suspicion the root of the disappoint that I feel leads to a lot of these sorts of sales.

Using a rif stock should act as your ‘control’ when playing around with putting aftermarket parts in something. Not having that benchmark to gauge the potential improvements from feels like a big miss, and a very easy way to wind up disappointed with your results.

Apologies, I suspect I’ve caused this to deviate away from where the topic was.

For Sale - A mistake shaped like a TM NGRS Delta - £900

Feel like this should be in that airsoft fallacies thread, I beg one day that the general airsoft player base realises that ‘aftermarket’ ≠ ‘upgrade’.

Granted that leads to a longer thought pattern of what ‘upgrade’ actually means. Many are seemingly happy in winning a gucci point pissing contest than they are having a nicely performing rif, and if that’s what you’re after then I guess it is upgraded for the intended purpose.

The only ‘actual’ reasons I can think of for selling a rif before skirmishing it that doesn’t ultimately lead me to suspicions of it not performing very well are:

    1) Unexpected financial difficulties.
    2) Ergonomically uncomfortable for the user (be that too long, too heavy, too much like a P90).
    3) Too loud for intended purpose.*

*This is only here so I can use it as a justification if I sell my MWS. Gotta think ahead so I don’t look like a hypocrite later down the line 🧐.

I’m all for putting fancy stuff in and on my rifs, but am very aware that much of it gives little to no improvement over what was already in/on there. Which is largely why installing aftermarket parts on brand new rifs makes my head spin, what is the improvement from the ‘upgrade’ being judged against?

Realistically I don’t think boots are too much of an issue, that photo probably makes things look more obvious than it felt while playing. Though I very much appreciate the feedback and suggestions. That’s probably the only time I was prone all day, I found it was much more effective to make a little hide in a bush and crouch. Means I’m concealed from most angles and have much better ability to manoeuvre without having to make large movements, especially with the SRS I found racking the bolt while prone to be a fairly exaggerated movement. The best crafted camo on the planet won’t keep you hidden if you’re flapping around all over the place!

They’re certainly not cheap boots but I’m not against spraying them, but I am going to hold off until they’re a little more worn in. This was my first outing in them so they very much have that fresh boot look about them, a few more days out and I suspect nature will take care of much of it for me!

Learning where you are and aren’t best concealed is definitely a ‘skill’ that I’ll need to work on, very much a new thing to me but it’s all part of the fun. Certainly not expecting to be mastering anything over night, but it’s added a whole new dimension to the game for me which has definitely brought a elevated level of enjoyment to the game for me.

I certainly got caught in the 'buying things to try and make me happy' throughout the early stages of the COVID situation. Fortunately that led me down a path which has made me fall in love with the game all over again, but it's also left me with a very expensive MWS build that I should absolutely sell on but am in denial about doing so. Selling a RIF before I've skirmished it atleast once is something I've never done, and never thought I would do... but after some frivolous spending to try and put a smile on my face I can absolutely see how it happens.

I wouldn't entirely disagree with you. My upper body is OK but my lower back has started to play-up in recent years - probably because I work in an office and spend way to much time sitting down. Need to do more walking/cycling after work.
